English for
Archaeologists course!
In this PowerPoint the structure of the
course will be explained.

The course consists of 8 different topics, you are expected to
complete 1 topic every week.

3. Structure
Every topic is divided into 4 parts
Vocabulary
Presentation of the topic’s
vocabulary and exercises
Listening
Audio track related to the
topic and exercises
Reading
Text related to the topic and
exercises
Speaking or Writing
Speaking or a Writing task
you need to do, including the
given vocabulary

4. Vocabulary
The specific vocabulary for the topic is presented in a
PowerPoint. Afterwards you have to do several multiple
choice and gap filling exercises. At the end of each topic a
Glossary with Spanish translations is available.

5. Reading
A small text covering the topic and part of the
vocabulary is given. Afterwards you need to
answer several multiple choice questions.

6. Listening
You will listen to an audio track of a
presentation about a related topic, including
part of the specific vocabulary. Afterwards
several multiple choice and gap filling exercises
have to be answered.

7. Speaking
Every other week you need to do a Speaking
exercise. This is a small presentation of 1,5 – 2
minutes about something related to the topic. The
presentation has to be sent to me and afterwards I
will give you feedback
The first week this exercise is explained more
specifically through an instructional video.

8. Writing
Every other week there is a Writing exercise instead of a Speaking exercise.
The Writing is different every time and the specific requirements are
explained in a PDF document with examples.
The different formats that will be discussed are:
- Report
- Formal letter
- Article
- Field Diary
Again, you will need to send me your writings and I will give you feedback.

9. Final Test
At the end of the course there is a Final Test
including 5 parts to assess your progress. If you
pass you will receive a certificate declaring the
successful completion of this English for
Archaeologists course by CIEMAD.
