1. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY

2. WHAT IS IT?
 The preliminary task is used to test our filming and
editing skill before filming the product, it involves a
action match an editing of a conversation scene.
This task is used to demonstrate the use of action
match, shot/reverse shot and the use of 180-degree
rule.
 The preliminary scene will be featured in the later
part of the film where both of the character is
waiting for the main character of the film and it is
most likely to be appeared towards the end of the
film.

3. WHAT TECHNICAL CONVENTIONS DID WE USE
IN OUR PRELIMINARY TASK?
 180 degree rule was followed in the whole
production od the preliminary task
 Use of two shots and reverse shot, two shots and
over the shoulder shots are being used in the
conversation along with the eye line view medium
close up shots, we are able to show the audience
what the characters' facial expression is, then it is
edited to a reverse shot where the conversation is
being showed, this also helps us to establish the
continuity of the scene
 Action match was used in the beginning, to show
the action od the character which also connotes
that the character is in a hurry.

4. THE USE OF MISE-EN-SCENE
 Our preliminary task was filmed in the common
rooming of girl’s boarding, this show the audience
where does the characters usually chill in, where
there are sofas in for them to relax, it is also choose
because it will fulfil the stereotype of the upper
middle class of boarding students
 A smart phone was used as a prop of one of the
character, it is used to promote the stereotypical
teenagers, where they are obsessed on mobile
phones

5. SIMILAR AREAS FROM PRELIMINARY AND MAIN
PRODUCT
 180 degree rule was being followed in both production
 Reverse shot was used in a conversation (conversation
in room) in the room scene of Eighteen, the shot/reverse
shot used in here was too long which has made this
scene very flat after the chasing scene
 Action match was used( preliminary: character opens
and enter the door, main product: Ali trips and fall, Ali
opening the closet)
 They are both filmed in the girls boarding
 Smart phone was used as a prop in both production.
 Continuity editing was also used in both production

6. HOW SHOULD WE IMPROVE IT?
 Location choice, instead of the girl’s boarding common room,
it can be filmed in the out doors where the benches are
located, to get a larger filming space.
 The Editing should be done with quicker cuttings, where there
are less breaks and pauses in between the shots, lowering
the speed of the footages can also help to create a slower
pace
 The dialogue should be recorded with a H4N in stead of
straightly from a camera.
 Settings like windows should be aware, in order to prevent
filming the cameramen in to the shot.
 Cast chosen should be British in order to meet the targeted
audience and to be conventional.
 Costumes, instead of having both characters wearing their
uniform, we should have our characters in casual wear where
it will be seen as a more relax scene and less formal.
