Eval task 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
What makesmyproduct a recognizable openingsequence?
One way thatour openingsequenceisrecognizable is usingidents.Veryoftenwe seethe companydistributionand
productionIdentappearbefore the film starts,a commontheme forIdentsistoshow 2-4 before the filmstartsandthis
isevidentinouropeningsequence aswe use 2 Idents(Image 1 & 2). It’salsoimportantthat
Identsaren'ttoo long,a goodrule of thumbisnot to go over
10 –15 seconds. OurownIdents(Image 1) is 9 secondslong
thisincludesthe time ittakestofade to black, our other
identisonly5 secondslong(Image 2) thisis a rather
commondurationforidentstobe show for.An example I
foundof thisbeingusedinotherfilmsis harrypotterusing
warnerbros identthatisunder15 seconds. This filmshowshow identshave acommon
durationthattheyare playedfloorwe canexpectthistobe typical inthe filmindustry
especiallythey are shortif the identislesscomplex inits
presentation anduniversal picturesisunder5secondslong.
Anotherexampleof whyourintroductionisrecognizable isbyusingcreditstoshowto
the audience thatit’san openingsequence.Thisisverycommonacrosslotsandlotsof
differenttypesof filmsand isveryoften done atthe start of the film, for example
Dexter’siconiccreditssequence.Forourcredits,we useda white texttohelpcontrast

We alsocut to a lot of differentshotsthisisgenerallythe editingstyle of openingsequencesasitgivesyoua lotof
informationaboutthe differentcharactersina short amountof time.
In our film, we chose goodlocationstosetthe genre of the filmforinstance we have a shotof a dark allay inwhichLucy

our characters are introducedespeciallythe stalkersas we

and reinforceshe genre. Inthisshotwe alsousedpost

associatedwithevil orhorror, because of thisIfeel asif we
introducedourstalkersina greatway combiningmanyareas
of mediatocreate an effectiveintroductiontoour
characters whichthenemphasizesthe genre of the film.
I alsobelievethatthe narrative issetup quite well inthis
shotas we are introducedtonewcharacters that are

I thinkisimportantbecause itmeansthe audience ismore likelyto
