CASE 8.1
LIVENT, INC.
Synopsis
Similar to most financial frauds, the Livent, Inc. fraud was masterminded by a few individuals, primarily Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb.
However, numerous individuals were eventually drawn into Livent's fraudulent schemes by its principal architects, including Maria Messina, the
company's chief financial officer (CFO). Messina, a former partner with Deloitte & Touche's Canadian affiliate, had previously served as Livent'saudit
engagement partner. The fraud unraveled following Livent's takeover by an investment group led by Hollywood mogul Michael Ovitz. The new
management team installed by Ovitz soon found that "massive, systematic irregularities" permeated the company's accounting ... Show more content on

10.The "accounting manipulations" used by Livent officials included simply erasing expenses and liabilities from the company's accounting records,
improper deferrals of major production costs, and capitalizing common operating expenses.
11.In August 1998, Messina and four of her subordinates revealed the fraud to a Livent executive who had been appointed by Michael Ovitz.
12.In June 2001, a U.S. federal judge ruled that a class–action lawsuit filed against Deloitte for its failure to uncover the Livent fraud could proceed
since there was a reasonable likelihood the audit firm had been reckless in auditing the company. Instructional Objectives
1.To emphasize the need for auditors to identify the key inherent risk factors posed by an audit client.
2.To illustrate the lengths to which client management will sometimes go to misrepresent its company's operating results and financial position.
3.To examine the issues raised when independent auditors accept key accounting positions with former clients.
4.To illustrate the difficulty of uncovering sophisticated financial frauds masterminded by top client executives.
5.To emphasize the need for auditors to thoroughly investigate suspicious circumstances and transactions discovered during an audit engagement.

The Facts and Traits of a CFO
How CFO's came to be
For some reason, business in the early 1900's didn't seem to care about their finances and record keeping nearly as much as we do today. People didn't
start realizing this until around the 1960's. Before the Chief Financial Officer was even thought about, most companies had a "Financial Manager".
They kept track of the financial records and handled the taxes but that was about it.
In the 1970's, the SEC and the FASB were considering making accounting and financing regulations more important in the business

Corporate Controllers Are Responsible For The Accounting
According to AccountingTools (n.d.), corporate controllers are responsible "for the accounting operations of the company," including: the development
of recurring financial reports, "maintenance of ... accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk,
enhance the accuracy of ... reported financial results, and ensure that reports results comply with ... financial reporting standards" (para. 2). In other
words, controllers are the chief accountants in their organizations. Besides their basic daily accounting functions and managing the accounting staff,
controllers must maintain internal controls and assume expanding responsibilities in their firms to reflect the changing roles in the controllership
position.
In a typical midsize or large business, the accounting department will usually have accounting clerks, payroll clerks, staff accountants, senior
accountants, an accounting manager, and other accounting positions (e.g., accounts payable clerks, accounts receivable manager, etc.). However, most
accounting departments of midsize or large corporations will be led by a controller or someone with similar responsibilities (e.g., finance director, etc.).
Controllers are essential to a company's back office operations. For instance, they are responsible for the timely completion of payroll, manage the daily
functions of accounts payable and other cash disbursements, comply with government reporting and tax requirements, and ensure the

Roles Within The Organization 's Governance Model
Introduction The Hospital Sisters Health Systems consist of four different divisions within two states and have a total of 13 hospitals, along with a
large physician group. The organization was originally run by a group of nuns. However, the nuns have formed a board to oversee the governance of
HSHS to ensure they continue to meet the high expectations and mission originally designed by the founding convent in 1875. As the hospital system
has grown the governance board has also grown and now has several key members listed on its organizational chart. Each of the roles is essential in
creating uniformed quality facilities throughout not only the divisions but the entire HSHS system. The governance board assists in many areas,
including HIT decisions and upgrades. This paper will discuss the governance of HSHS, various roles within the organization's governance model, the
HIT decision making process, and an example of HIT implementation within the HSHS–EWD. Hospital Governance Sister Bernadine Gutowski is one

As the responsibilities and influence of the CFO change, it is also important that the CFO effectively communicates on financial matters, and has

Yggdrasil Gaming growth continues with arrival of new CFO
It can be argued that no other online casino software developer in the world had a better 2015 than Yggdrasil Gaming. Shaking loose the up–start tag,
what the company was able to do is hit several key milestones. With 2015 now in the rear view mirror, it seems that Yggdrasil Gaming is carrying
through the momentum. Not only has the brand signed major agreements with the likes of Monte Carlo Casino, Expekt, and BetClic in 2016, but they
have now also announced a major corporate move. In a fresh change, Frida Gustafsson has been appointed as the new Yggdrasil Gaming Chief
Financial Officer (CFO).
What is making the appointment so noteworthy is the sheer amount of experience that Gustafsson brings to the table. During the past six years he has
been a key figure at NetEnt, serving as an auditor. Yggdrasil Gaming has been rising rapidly as of late, which has meant the need to call on more
experience to handle the brand's emerging corporate structure. In the eyes of analysts Gustafsson is joining the company at just the right time, as
Yggdrasil Gamimg looks to be on the very on an expansion spree.
Speaking on his acceptance of the new role, Frida Gustafsson said, "Everyone in our industry knows about Yggdrasil, and from what I've seen
already there is an opportunity for massive growth over the coming years. I look forward to being a part of the company's on–going success story".

A Research On Meadow Hills Hospital
Meadow Hills Hospital is a two hundred bed hospital with a large Medical Staff that serves a population of three hundred thousand. It is one of four
similar hospitals in the region. They do not currently have an EHR, but they're financial systems are well developed. They have a good amount of
money in reserve to spend on any solution they feel is needed. Historically, their IT function has reported up through the Chief Financial Officer. This
has led to their financial systems being well developed. But, their Clinical systems are significantly less developed. Clinicians have been ok with this
arrangement. Not having more advanced clinical systems has allowed them to develop and maintain processes that they are comfortable with. This is
a comfort for the clinicians, but is likely costing the organization money as records are paper based, not electronic. Also, as they have no CPOE
installed, they are not performing the safety checks, such as drug interaction that can come with those systems. This is placing an unnecessary risk on
patients. Developing an IT Strategy for Meadow Hills Hospital would likely revolve around bolstering the clinical side of IT. An IT Strategy would
assist the organization in knowing how and where to invest the money stored in their reserves. This can also ensure that their IT goals are in line with
their overall organization goals. As they are currently organized, IT reports up to the CFO. This is a formula to ensure that IT goals

Role Of The Financial Manager On Today 's Business World...
The role of the financial Manager in today's business world has been rapidly changing. The change is fuelled by technology innovation in particularly,
digital technology and increasing information processing power. Since the financial crisis in 2008, firms have been working to restructure their
operations as a means of survival. This has led to the modification of many management roles, more so the role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
As a means for survival, firms started by cutting on costs, becoming more lean and efficient. However, today there is no more room for cutting on costs
and firms have been looking to growth as a way to increase profitability. Growth comes with new uncertainties and challenges which financial managers
have to consider when making their financial decisions. These new macroeconomic challenges facing the finance function include: Regulation,
Globalization, Technology, Risk, Transformation, Stakeholder management, strategy, reporting, and Talent and capability. This paper will provide an
analysis and evaluation of the challenges facing finance managers in a changing macroeconomic environment, the changes firms are making to the
Chief Finance Officer's role, the impact these changes are making to the firms' performance and how these changes impact the role of financial
managers and the consequences of the changes CFOs make to curb these new challenges.

Why Is A Financial System Important?
Why is a financial system important to an HCO; does a budget really make a difference? The HCO is undergoing many exciting changes that affect
how the HCO operates. There are technological Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) upgrades, payment, and
system billing changes and practices, and quality improvement measures. The swift changes in healthcare include costs that require a financing system.
Kenneth White and Allen Griffith inform "The financial plan is a reality check for the HCO organization" (433). Afinance system records and reports
HCO transactions. The recorded transactions are useful to set and achieve performance improvement measures. As performance improvement goals are
reached, new financial opportunities are analyzed to help the governance board make financial arrangements. Additionally, a finance system provides
an arc of safety "to protect assets and resources from theft, waste, loss and distortion" (White and Griffith 415). With this knowledge, it is important
for each department to account for their expenses to keep the HCO in the positive financially. This takes time and effort to research, analyze, and
forecast where funds should be allocated in the present and future. All stakeholders, including clinical professions, Chief Executive Officers (CEO),

purchase of Great Scoops and DaDeli. Due to this extreme growth, and the need for centralized decision making, most of GC3 staff will reside at the
company's headquarters, aside from store managers and administrative staff.
With the continued growth, it is important to develop a corporate structure. The three forerunners of GC3 are Tony, Bruce and Bonnie. Tony has
taken the role of Chief Financial Officer. To be successful, Tony will need to build a team to meet the demands of the entire organization. Since Tony
works at headquarters, a proposed IT and Accounting group will report to him. These added responsibilities will create a need for Tony to have one
main direct report, a Finance Manager. The Finance Manager will directly manage the newly added IT department and Accounting department. Since
headquarters will be responsible for all accounting functions throughout the organization, an AP/AR clerk will directly report to the Accounting and
Payroll Specialist. With the many new proposed software additions, an IT person will be needed. IT will reside at headquarters and have the
capabilities to remotely access all PC's at any given time to monitor and troubleshoot technology issues.

In today's society, white collar crime is now becoming more widely known because of the advancement of technological devices and brilliant minds.
In fact, over 730,000 counts of suspected financial wrongoing were recorded in America last year, according to recent data from the Treasury
Department 's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (The Economist, 2009). White Collar Crime is a term reportedly coined in 1939–is now
synonymous with the full range of frauds committed by business and government professionals including one of the many called "Check Kiting"
(FBI, 2010). White collar crime is described by the federal bureau investigation (FBI) in three words: Lying, cheating, and stealing which is exactly
the kind of people that Scott in this case analysis has to deal with. In this case, the Operations Manager, Scott at a small bank has the duties of
overseeing transactions and defining clients who use bad checks. While going through the daily routine, he finds that his wife's friend, who is the chief
financial officer of the bank, appears to be involved in check kiting. According to the business dictionary, check Kiting is a form of checkfraud, in
which checks are issued against funds that a bank has credited into an account for deposited, uncleared checks. With careful timing of deposits and
withdrawals, this scam can be turned into a large sum. Furthermore, In addition to knowing the suspect, Scott also is aware the CFO is also involved in

Diamond Foods Accounting Scandal
Diamond Foods Accounting Scandal
BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1912 as a walnut grower cooperative, Diamond Food's primary business involved buying walnuts from local California growers,
processing the product, and reselling it. The San Francisco–based company converted from a cooperative to a public corporation in July of 2005,
issuing its initial shares for $17. By 2010, Diamond Foods (DMND) had expanded and acquired a number of snack food companies including Kettle
BrandВ® Chips and Pop SecretВ® popcorn and was negotiating the acquisition of the Pringles brand from the Procter & Gamble Company
(Diamond Foods, 2014). The addition of the Pringles brand would make Diamond the second–largest global snack foods company behind PepsiCo, Inc.,

The details of how these costs were pulled apart and separated will be further explained in the following section.
From the beginning Diamond had put a focus on the commodity walnut market. The company had forged strong relationships with the growers of the
nuts and held pride in continuing the positive relationship throughout the future of the company. So as the growers began to hand down larger costs,
Diamond needed to find a way to ensure that the growers got the full amount they were seeking in order to keep ties strong and avoid the growers
leaving Diamond for one of its competitors, while also continue to meet the earnings per share (EPS) expectations. According to the case filed by the
SEC in 2014, "In February 2010, Diamond CFO Neil instructed members of the Finance Team to adjust the walnut costs to hit an EPS target for the
second quarter. "Members of the Finance Team provided Neil with a walnut cost estimate that would result in reported EPS that would be higher than
the consensus analyst of estimated $0.47 per share for the quarter" (SEC, 2014). However, the growers were not satisfied with this method of
determining prices and threatened to leave Diamond if full costs were not received. Neil determined a way to close the gap through "continuity" or
"momentum" payments. This technique allowed Diamond to pay the full amount that the growers were giving, but separated the costs out. Diamond

Chapter 2 : Literature Review
Chapter 2: Literature Review
2.1 Earnings management
Earnings management has attracted increasingly more attention in recent years, especially since it became calculable through the Jones model (1991).
Earning, as one of the most significant indicators of the firm's financial performance, conveys huge amount of information to the creditors,
shareholders, suppliers as well as the customers, and thus exerts a great influence on their further decisions. As a consequence, managers have different
incentives to manage earnings information, such as to convey more inside information about the firm to the public, meet analysts' expectations, seek
for the managers' own profit, and avoid the debt covenant.
Earnings management can be interpreted as the misrepresentation or the massaging of earnings, and specifically it occurs when the managers adjust
earnings through changing the financial reporting process and makings real transaction decisions within the constraint of Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP) (Healy and Wahlen, 1999). Although it is different from fraud which means manipulating earnings outside the GAAP,
they both have the same objectives, and probably result in reduction in the earnings quality and reliability of the financial report.
Accrual–based earnings management and real earnings management are the two main ways to manage earnings. Real earnings management is
concerned with manipulation decisions regarding sales, production, and discretionary expenses

Chief Executive Officer Compensation in the Financial...
The issue of chief executive officer compensation is the subject of dilemma in the United States. This dilemma often triggers questions as to who
decides what compensation is rewarded, as well as how compensation is rewarded. The government strongly resents the current pay–ration between
CEOs and the average salary of American citizens. Since the financial crisis, people have shown their displeasure with the hefty compensation chief
executive officers receives. But when stunning management failures and unprecedented destruction of shareholder value are brought into the light, it
becomes increasingly difficult to defend current executive remuneration policies with these economic underpinnings. For example, the "Occupy Wall
Street" movement began in 2011 in protest of the increasing disparity of wealth among other reasons lying within corporate America. The peak of CEO
compensation came in 2001, and it is still difficult to argue whether the financial crisis of 2008 or the change in compensation strategy has slightly
stagnated the exponential growth the started in the mid 1970's. The sentiment around the problem is whether the large banks' CEO compensation are
fair to their employees, shareholders, and the community as a whole. There is a plethora of steps to comprehend in developing how the CEO
compensation debate came about. The reasons for this growth rely on bank deregulation. During difficult financial times after the mortgage crisis,
arguments both for and against

Kantian Ethics: The Wounded Warrior Project
So many people put their lives on the line for the sake of this country. It would be nice if, after all the damages they suffered, there was organization
that could help them recover that bit of life they lost in war; that would not mislead them with false promises, or squander their money. The Wounded
Warrior Project (WWP) has been one of the best–known organizations providing assistance to Iraq– and Afghanistan– war veterans for the last several
years. But as time has gone one the organization has broken down, and is lately the focus of negative media attention after it CEO, Steven Nardizzi
and COO, Al Girodano, who were accused of lavishly spending over $800 million in donations to the WWP. The following paper therefore analyzes
the background... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the chief financial officers, as part of that organization, also had a duty to uphold the prerogatives of the organization. –––––––––––––– From the
vantage of the organization, its lack of financial controls and oversight posed a major risk, not only to veterans that it served but to the organization as
a whole. And, in fact, the lack of any such controls in place ultimately undermined the good–and the successes–of the organization, over time.
–––––––––––––– While it is still unclear whether WWP management ever discussed putting such controls in place, and while it is also unclear whether
the conspicuous absense of these controls from the organization was, in fact, intentional–this oversight, intentional or not, implied a gross neglect of
the WWP's duty to the receivers as well as providers of its service. The reason for this is clear: if a non–profit organization promises to take money
from donors for the sole purpose of funding rehabilitation programs for veterans of war, then proper safeguards should be in place to ensure, in fact,
the money is going where it was promised to go. Or likewise, there should proper safeguards in place to ensure no member of non–profit organization,
itself, could then take those donations made in good conscience and then spend them as they will.

years. Due to the large investments made, it brought on the temptation of "cooking" the books to move money around to places it should not be.
Management then began to put a plan together, to move small amounts at a time, so as not to be detected. "It was reported that HealthSouth was
overstated investments by almost 5 billion, which made the average journal entry around $2,500." (HealthSouth: A Case Study in Corporate Fraud –

Ficer Of The Corporate World
In the corporate world, there is often room for error. There are procedures, policies, and regulations to follow in every department. and there must
be someone to oversee these policies. This person is known as the Chief Compliance Officer. Brad is the Chief Compliance Officer, or CCO, of
Investors Group. As he says, he's the police officer of the corporate world. By law, a firm like Investors Group, an investment fund manager and
portfolio advisor must have a CCO. The main duty of the CCO is ensuring that the firm is following all regulations as an investor or as an advisor.
He also makes certain that all employees are following all internal policies and procedures. Brad didn't have a typical reason for pursuing
accounting when he went to school. When he was applying to the University of Manitoba, he happened to watch the movie Wall Street. He was
not sure what faculty he wanted to go into, but watching this interesting movie cemented his decision. Brad says he never really aimed to have his
career move towards becoming CCO, but more that is was a gradual transition. He began as an auditor and eventually moved to working in
investment compliance. From there, he made a lateral transfer to his current job. However, Brad says he's becoming someone who doesn't follow a

Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay
Corporate Governance
The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate disclosure and force changes in the auditing of publicly
traded companies. The first thing that SOX has an improvement is on the responsibility of company's financial reports and disclosure which is
connected with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial statement personally. If the chief executive CEO,
chief financial officer CFO or other top manager knowing or willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison. Also,
if the company had the accounting restatement due to the manager's misconduct, he still has to give up the bonuses or profits made from selling the
company's stock.
Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee's independence form the company and its responsibility
regarding the company's auditors. The audit committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company's chief executive CEO, chief
financial officer CFO or other top managers' accounting decision. Also, the audit committee member must be independent from the top management
and have the responsibility like approving many audit and non–audit services.
What's more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to perform the extensive internal control tests. Which
include an internal control report of annual audits.

1). Clearly, we have a broad mission with ever growing capacity to provide healthcare to our patients. A key insight about the financial health of UHS
is that we are performing extremely well. According to our latest financial statement, we are ever improving our numbers. Our net revenues continually
increased from $4,900,147 in 2010, to $8,065,326 in 2014. Furthermore, our total assets grew during this same timeframe from $7,527,936 to
$8,974,443, resulting in an impressive reduction of our percentage of total debt to total capitalization from 66% to 51% (UHS Annual Report, 2014, p.
41). Given our investment in several new facilities in 2014, we continue to see this sustained growth in light of those investments as impressive and an
indicator of a truly a healthy organization.
Reaction to Financial Statements
I speculate that our employees, investors, and shareholders will be very pleased with our financial health as reflected in the latest financial statement
discussed above, and react in positive ways. The employees benefit by the increase in revenue in the form of bonus and raises, of course based on
their performance. The investors will react equally positively since we have expanded our investment portfolio by acquiring and opening new

  • 1. Audit Knapp Answer CASE 8.1 LIVENT, INC. Synopsis Similar to most financial frauds, the Livent, Inc. fraud was masterminded by a few individuals, primarily Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb. However, numerous individuals were eventually drawn into Livent's fraudulent schemes by its principal architects, including Maria Messina, the company's chief financial officer (CFO). Messina, a former partner with Deloitte & Touche's Canadian affiliate, had previously served as Livent'saudit engagement partner. The fraud unraveled following Livent's takeover by an investment group led by Hollywood mogul Michael Ovitz. It is one of four similar hospitals in the region. They do not currently have an EHR, but they're financial systems are well developed. They have a good amount of money in reserve to spend on any solution they feel is needed. Historically, their IT function has reported up through the Chief Financial Officer. This has led to their financial systems being well developed. But, their Clinical systems are significantly less developed. Clinicians have been ok with this arrangement. Not having more advanced clinical systems has allowed them to develop and maintain processes that they are comfortable with. This is a comfort for the clinicians, but is likely costing the organization money as records are paper based, not electronic. Also, as they have no CPOE installed, they are not performing the safety checks, such as drug interaction that can come with those systems. This is placing an unnecessary risk on patients. Developing an IT Strategy for Meadow Hills Hospital would likely revolve around bolstering the clinical side of IT. An IT Strategy would assist the organization in knowing how and where to invest the money stored in their reserves. This can also ensure that their IT goals are in line with their overall organization goals. As they are currently organized, IT reports up to the CFO. This is a formula to ensure that IT goals ... The company had forged strong relationships with the growers of the nuts and held pride in continuing the positive relationship throughout the future of the company. So as the growers began to hand down larger costs, Diamond needed to find a way to ensure that the growers got the full amount they were seeking in order to keep ties strong and avoid the growers leaving Diamond for one of its competitors, while also continue to meet the earnings per share (EPS) expectations. According to the case filed by the SEC in 2014, "In February 2010, Diamond CFO Neil instructed members of the Finance Team to adjust the walnut costs to hit an EPS target for the second quarter. "Members of the Finance Team provided Neil with a walnut cost estimate that would result in reported EPS that would be higher than the consensus analyst of estimated $0.47 per share for the quarter" (SEC, 2014). However, the growers were not satisfied with this method of determining prices and threatened to leave Diamond if full costs were not received. • 30. Chapter 2 : Literature Review Chapter 2: Literature Review 2.1 Earnings management Earnings management has attracted increasingly more attention in recent years, especially since it became calculable through the Jones model (1991). Earning, as one of the most significant indicators of the firm's financial performance, conveys huge amount of information to the creditors, shareholders, suppliers as well as the customers, and thus exerts a great influence on their further decisions. As a consequence, managers have different incentives to manage earnings information, such as to convey more inside information about the firm to the public, meet analysts' expectations, seek for the managers' own profit, and avoid the debt covenant. Earnings management can be interpreted as the misrepresentation or the massaging of earnings, and specifically it occurs when the managers adjust earnings through changing the financial reporting process and makings real transaction decisions within the constraint of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) (Healy and Wahlen, 1999). Although it is different from fraud which means manipulating earnings outside the GAAP, they both have the same objectives, and probably result in reduction in the earnings quality and reliability of the financial report. Accrual–based earnings management and real earnings management are the two main ways to manage earnings. Real earnings management is concerned with manipulation decisions regarding sales, production, and discretionary expenses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This dilemma often triggers questions as to who decides what compensation is rewarded, as well as how compensation is rewarded. The government strongly resents the current pay–ration between CEOs and the average salary of American citizens. Since the financial crisis, people have shown their displeasure with the hefty compensation chief executive officers receives. But when stunning management failures and unprecedented destruction of shareholder value are brought into the light, it becomes increasingly difficult to defend current executive remuneration policies with these economic underpinnings. For example, the "Occupy Wall Street" movement began in 2011 in protest of the increasing disparity of wealth among other reasons lying within corporate America. The peak of CEO compensation came in 2001, and it is still difficult to argue whether the financial crisis of 2008 or the change in compensation strategy has slightly stagnated the exponential growth the started in the mid 1970's. The sentiment around the problem is whether the large banks' CEO compensation are fair to their employees, shareholders, and the community as a whole. There is a plethora of steps to comprehend in developing how the CEO compensation debate came about. The reasons for this growth rely on bank deregulation. The reason for this is clear: if a non–profit organization promises to take money from donors for the sole purpose of funding rehabilitation programs for veterans of war, then proper safeguards should be in place to ensure, in fact, the money is going where it was promised to go. • 38. Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay Corporate Governance The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate disclosure and force changes in the auditing of publicly traded companies. The first thing that SOX has an improvement is on the responsibility of company's financial reports and disclosure which is connected with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial statement personally. If the chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top manager knowing or willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison. Also, if the company had the accounting restatement due to the manager's misconduct, he still has to give up the bonuses or profits made from selling the company's stock. Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee's independence form the company and its responsibility regarding the company's auditors. The audit committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company's chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top managers' accounting decision. Also, the audit committee member must be independent from the top management and have the responsibility like approving many audit and non–audit services. What's more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to perform the extensive internal control tests. Which include an internal control report of annual audits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Clearly, we have a broad mission with ever growing capacity to provide healthcare to our patients. A key insight about the financial health of UHS is that we are performing extremely well. According to our latest financial statement, we are ever improving our numbers. Our net revenues continually increased from $4,900,147 in 2010, to $8,065,326 in 2014. Furthermore, our total assets grew during this same timeframe from $7,527,936 to $8,974,443, resulting in an impressive reduction of our percentage of total debt to total capitalization from 66% to 51% (UHS Annual Report, 2014, p. 41). Given our investment in several new facilities in 2014, we continue to see this sustained growth in light of those investments as impressive and an indicator of a truly a healthy organization. Reaction to Financial Statements I speculate that our employees, investors, and shareholders will be very pleased with our financial health as reflected in the latest financial statement discussed above, and react in positive ways. The employees benefit by the increase in revenue in the form of bonus and raises, of course based on their performance. The investors will react equally positively since we have expanded our investment portfolio by acquiring and opening new hospitals. Similarly, our shareholders will see the return on ...
