1. PROP LIST
Costumes – Within the scenes of the music video my group and I would like our cast
members to be dressed in popular high street clothing. Through the use of clothing
we will be able to represent our target audience as it will enforce that they are normal
girls. However for scenes like the party we will ask our cast to wear appropriate
clothing to represent the atmosphere we aim to create through song/story line. This
will include dresses and skirts for the girls and tee’s/jumpers for the boys.
Locations – Within our music video we will be choosing a range of locations to
emphasise the montage aspect of the story line. The different locations will add to
the idea that the protagonists are carefree and having fun in their youth. The use of
different scenes will keep the audience interested as they will wonder what’s coming
next. Also through location we will represent the cultural background of London by
using popular locations such as Hyde Park and Piccadilly Circus. Using the results of
the questionnaire from our target audience we will be able to use locations that will
be enjoyable to them.
UV light - The UV light will be used as a prop in the party and lip syncing scenes. The
use of the light will emphasise the neon lips and the lyrics they will be singing within
a fun atmosphere. This idea was inspired by Icona Pop’s ‘Manners’ music video but
we hope to adapt it to suit our ideas.
Neon Face Paint – Neon face paint was a popular idea within the questionnaire my
group and I surveyed to our target audience. With this in mind we will definitely be
using this prop in the music video. The use of bright colours will effectively represent
the pop genre while also making the music video entertaining and unique.
Barclay’s / Borris Bikes – We also asked our target audience about including the
Barclay bikes as a prop in our music video and it received a good reception.
Within the lyrics Icona pop sing ‘I crashed my car into the bridge’, as we cannot drive
we thought this would be a younger take on the lyrics. The use of this is also
representing Andrew Goodwins theory of lyrics to visuals.
Dance machine – The use of the dance machine will be our own twist on the convention
of dancing within the pop genre. The machine is popular amongst young people
which will make it relatable to our target audience while also reinforcing the dance
pop genre of the song.
Food and Drink – The prop of food and drinks will give a realistic effect to the music
video. It also encourages the idea the protagonists has a sense of normality which
will be relatable for the audience.
iPhone 5 – The use of the text message will clearly convey the storyline within the
music video; She is broken up with via text, this leads on to her forgetting about him
and having fun. Furthermore the use of the text message will represent teen culture
and the youth of the characters as modern day teenagers communicate by texting.
2. Pedalo – The Lake in Hyde Park gives the opportunity of pedalo rides. The use of the
prop will give an exciting aspect within the video while also conveying different
location for our montage edit.
Taxi – The black taxi will effectively represent iconic London culture. Also the use of the
taxi will portray that the protagonists are going on adventures and have the power to
‘move on’ and forget about the male. The original icona pop ‘I love it’ video uses a
taxi; this will be a way to incorporate them in our own video.
Samsung Galaxy S3 – The phone will be shown within mirrors of the music video, this
will depict that it is in fact filmed using hand held shots. The use of the shots will
make the music video more personal to the protagonists as if it wasn’t the scenes
would look staged. Also by using hand held shots it allows the audience to ‘come
along on our journey’. Some of the shots may be shaky but we think it will give the
impression of a home movie.
Mirrors – Mirrors will be incorporated in the music video to depict the three protagonists
as the shots will be hand held it will be hard to have all characters in the shot. Using
phones and mirrors to take the videos will effectively portray teen culture as they are
often seen taking ‘selfies’. This will add to the normality and relatable factor of the
music video while also being diverse.
Umbrella – We plan to use an umbrella in the first shot of the video to convey the dark
rainy weather. The use of pathetic fallacy will depict the feelings of the protagonist
while she is being dumped.
