The document discusses how the author addressed their audience in their magazine design. They used a bright masthead with the word "Encore" to signal it was a music magazine. Current pop artists were featured on the cover to attract fans of those artists. Images and a focus on the top music hits were included on the contents page. A large intriguing quote was used on the double page spread to encourage reading the article. Consistent use of an attractive female model throughout appealed to the mostly female audience while not excluding males.
2. Front Cover
The masthead will
attract my audience, as
not only is it bright and
bold, but it uses field
specific lexis in the way
that the term ‘Encore’
relates specifically to
music, which the
audience should
understand and
therefore recognise that
this is a music magazine.
3. Front Cover
I also made sure to
include the names of
current, largely
successful pop artists on
my front cover to entice
the audience further.
People who like pop
music will most likely
have heard of at least
one of the artists that
are named on my cover,
and therefore this may
encourage them to buy
it so that they can read
about their favourite
music artists.
4. Contents Page
I included multiple images
on my Contents page that
will help to attract an
audience, as they help to
break up the text on the
page. I used two images of
models and one image of a
setting related to the
competitions page so that I
could show variety in the
content. I placed the
photograph of the model
from the front cover
separately to draw more
attention to her and to
make it more clear that she
is still the main focus of this
issue. If the reader saw her
on the cover and opened
the magazine then it
suggests that they are
interested in reading about
her.
5. Contents Page
The ‘Top Ten Hits of the
Week’ should attract my
audience because in order
to have picked
up/purchased the magazine
they must have some
interest in music and pop
music is very current and
new, which is why they will
most likely be interested in
reading about what the
latest hits are.
6. Contents Page
The general layout of my
Contents page should not
only attract my target
audience, but make it
easier for them to
navigate between pages
and categories of the
magazine. Categories are
used frequently in existing
magazines to help the
reader find specific
articles.
7. Double Page
The large quote/title
should attract my
audience, as I chose a
quote that sounds quite
intriguing and could be
interpreted in different
ways. For example, this
quote could be
interpreted as slightly
arrogant or simply
motivated and
determined. This would
possibly encourage my
audience to read the
article to find out the
context of the quote.
8. Double Page
The actual font of the
quote/title should also
attract my audience, as
it is bright and bold in a
similar way to the
masthead on my front
cover , which
represents the fun
genre of pop music.
The pink colour will
stereotypically appeal
specifically to girls,
however, I did include
a pop of blue on this
spread and tried to
keep the colour scheme
somewhat balanced in
order to avoid any
specific determination
of gender.
9. Double Page
The main image used
on this page should also
attract and address my
audience, as once again
it uses eye contact to
develop an instant
connection with the
reader, and the fact
that the model is
smiling makes it seem
friendly and welcoming.
10. Double Page
I used the same female model for the majority of my photos for this magazine, which will appeal to
my mostly female audience. However, this does not mean that it will not also attract the attention
of males. The model is young, feminine and attractive, which fits the stereotypical criteria of a
female pop singer, thus making it more likely for my audience to recognise her as a music artist, and
for them to want to buy the magazine and read about her story.
