1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
FROM PROGRESSING FROM
YOU PRELIMINARY TASK TO
YOUR FINAL PRODUCTION?
2. CAMERA
Now, it is quite clear to see; the use of focus in our preliminary task is nothing
compared to that of our main. Our first task had some shots out of focus and there is a
lot of unintentional shaky-cam… However that was all changed around in our main
task as we researched the cameras an lens at our disposal so we could chose the most
suitable ones for our opening. With this new knowledge of cameras, and a trusty
tripod to cancel out the shaky-cam, we improved greatly on our preliminary task
3. EDITING
Our preliminary task was edited very quickly as we didn’t realise all the intricate
parts within the editing process, so it ended up with errors all over the place, like
hearing the director in the background, for example.
The main task had a much more thorough editing process; colour matching, rewinds,
effects and any more editing techniques which we have picked up throughout the
whole process. Also constant re-watching and refining contributed massively to our
outcome as it was the best way to work out any kinks in our production.
4. LIGHTING
In are preliminary task, lighting wasn’t even considered in detail. This left us with
naturalistic lighting. Even though naturalistic lighting would have been preferred for
the preliminary task, it wasn’t manipulated in any way which would have given us a
better look and feel on each shot.
At a complete contrast, light was probably the most important part of our main task. A
large amount of time was spent setting up and altering the lighting to achieve the best
effect we can.
5. SOUND
The preliminary task didn’t include any non-diegetic sound, which was a big mistake
as the viewer could clearly hear background noise and the director speaking which
drastically takes away any effect the piece had in the first place. There is also a big
contrast in the volume of sound; from the dialogue, to the chair moving.
We tried hard to fix any problems made in the first task. We silenced all diegetic
sound, except that which added to the tension of the piece. We spent a long time
choosing music for our production which would add to the effect on the power play, as
well as the tension growing between the two protagonists and also adding sound
effects to enhance this further.
