2. PLANNING
In our Preliminary task our planning of the task was poor, we had
no shooting schedule and a minimal Risk Assessment, this meant the
whole shoot was fairly chaotic with people not knowing what they
were doing. With our final task we had a well structured shooting
schedule and story boards so it was far more organized and everyone
knew what they were supposed to be doing.
3. CAMERA SKILLS
In our preliminary task our camera skills were poor, a majority of our shots
were long shots showing the whole body of the characters and there was a
considerable amount of camera wobble, as well as this our choice of shots was
poor with lighting and background noise being an issue. In our final task we
amended these mistakes by using the tripod for more shots, to reduce camera
wobble, to have an idea of the shot we wanted so we could create the setting
for that shot and to take more than one shot at one angle of what we wanted
to capture so as to make editing easier and our final piece more appealing.
4. EDITING
In our Preliminary task our editing had been fairly average, with basic
transitions between scenes and basic use of credits this left it looking
rushed and unentertaining. In our main task we upgraded our editing
system to Final Cut Pro X meaning we had a more sophisticated editing
system. As well as this we also took more time with the shots we had
going into great detail to make sure everything worked and that the piece
looked good. By improving our editing skill we were able to make our film
look more realistic and create more of a spooky atmosphere.
5. SOUND
One of the most crucial differences between our two pieces was the use of sound. In
the Preliminary task we used one short rift from a song to play in the task and then it was
just diegetic sound for the entirety of the piece, as well as this we had problems with
background noise from cars and other people which contributed to the lack of quality in
that task. In our final task we created our own eerie soundtrack to accompany the whole
of the piece, which helped to create a spooky atmosphere and sound more professional.
As well as this improvement we were also able to eliminate all background noise that may
have been picked up during shooting meaning the only things audible during the piece
were things we wanted audible further contributing to the piece sounding more
professional.
