LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PLEMINARY
TASK , WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE
LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT
TO THE FULL PRODUCT ?
WHY WAS THE MAIN TASK BRIEF MORE
DIFFICULT THAN THE PRELINMARY TASK ?
The main task was more difficult compared to the preliminary task due to things such as the length of
the footage. The preliminary task was only around 2 minutes max depending on which scene you
where given and we where given The Godfather which was only around the 2 minute mark and
didnt really require much editing whereas the main media task was over 2 minutes long and
unlike the preliminary task required lots of editing such as editing out background noise which
was picked up by the camera from its surroundings as we filmed on busy roads compared to the
preliminary task which was in a room and because we used action figures and a hand made set it
meant we didnt need to edit out things like this due to us being able to control the surroundings
around us. The quality of the preliminary task wasn't very good and had bad editing errors such
as the jump cuts between different points in the video also the quality didnt really matter when
doing the preliminary task as we just had to remake the chosen scene however compare this to
main task where one of the objectives was to make sure that the video was up to good quality
and didnt have similar errors as the preliminary task. Another thing which made the main task
much more difficult then the preliminary task was that we had to include a range of different
shots which was not one of the aims the of the preliminary task as we where given specific shots
and how the scene should be filmed and all we had to do is mirror that whereas in the main task
we had too think of shots which will help to add the effect of a action movie and would be
relevant. When creating the preliminary task there where very few creative decisions which had
to be made except for the set design which was creating a little black box as we couldnt find a
dark room and this way it meant we could manipulate and experiment with lighting whereas
with the main task most of the task required alot of creative thinking as we didnt have a structure
or a scene to watch and follow and had to create something unique but at the same time had that
element of familiarity which made the task very difficult.
HOW DID YOU RESEARCH YOUR
PRELIMINARY BRIEF? WHY WAS YOUR
MAIN TASK RESEARCH BETTER?
The research for the main task better then that of the preliminary task as we went into
depth. Ways in which we did this and not in the preliminary task was by researching
different concepts and we had to try to find concepts similar to our film genre and
then by using our research we had to create a whole new concept which had elements
of our research but still had a U.S.P. Unlike the preliminary task where we had to find
the soundtrack and that was it in the main tasks we also had to try to find the right
balance between familiarity and originality. This meant finding movie's and concept's
similar to ours and then trying to create something new.
HOW DID YOU PLAN YOUR PRELIMINARY
BRIEF ? WHY WAS YOUR MAIN TASK
PLANNING BETTER?
When doing the preliminary task all we had to do is draw out a storyboard which was
very easy as we had the video in front of us and just had to copy out what we saw
whereas with the main task we had to create every bit of planning such as
storyboard, shot list, blocked plan,Tolorovs structure. This means that as directors we
have more control over the media product and get to manipulate it in anyway of our
choice which we couldnt do during the preliminary task .
