The president  looked  weary. Jamal  is  an honest man. Subject + Verb (transitive) + Direct Object John  sings  ballads. The player  kicks  the ball. I  need  some money. Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object  My uncle  sent  me  a present .  The Governor  gave  the schools  additional money .  Dennis  bought  Ann  some fancy flowers. Subject + Verb + Direct Object + Object complement  The supervisor  found  the program  faulty . The company  elected him  the  president .
Basic Sentence Patterns There + be + subject. There are some students in the classroom. There were some food left in the fridge.  Passive voice patterns. (Verb to be + V.3)  The report  is divided  into three main sections. This English class  is taught   by  two instructors. Joe  has been hired   by  his advisor.
