2. The day of the shoot
• When I arrived on the day of the
shoot I had all the props that I
needed, so felt prepared. Before we
started to shoot lights had to be set
up for the DJ set. This involved
technicians, which we could not help
with but we did chose the light show
that was played throughout the
video and the light before and after
the DJ entered/exited the stage. This
was a big decision because it tied the
beginning and end of our music
video together.
• I think that we managed to create
the right atmosphere for the concept
of our music video in the studio.
3. My Role
• My role on the shoot day was playback in the
studio, so I controlled when the music played
for the DJ.
• On locations I mainly organized the props and
what characters should be wearing/using
what props. I also took photos and videos of
the filming process and us using the cameras
and equipment.
4. Problems on the shoot day
• We did have some problems on the shoot day. We
did spend a lot of time in the studio with the DJ
set, which meant that we did have to rush some of
the location shots. There was also the problem of
light because after 4pm it started to get dark and we
were worried about the continuity between scenes
and the amount of light in each scene. The weather
on the shoot day was also very cloudy, which can
either add effect and atmosphere to the video or it
can ruin your shot. Overall I think that we coped with
it well and it did not cause us many problems.
5. Which part of the shoot was most
successful?
• I think that the DJ set in the
studio went well because we
got all the shots we had
planned within the
storyboard. However we did
have to spend more time on
this, so we didn’t have as
much time to shoot the rest
of the scenes. The stage and
set up was exactly what we
wanted and so was the
lighting, creating the ideal
atmosphere.
6. What could have gone better?
• We could have done some of the location
shots earlier in the day because it started to
get dark quickly, which means that the lighting
may not be constant throughout the video.
• We could have been more organized when
choosing where to shoot some of our location
shots. We had not thought in advance where
we wanted some of the shots, which meant
finding somewhere to shoot on the day.
7. Cast
• We did not have many cast members so it was
easy to manage their time and keep everyone
focused.
• Our cast worked well together and meant that
some of our more difficult shots (like the fighting
scenes) worked well.
8. What I enjoyed the most
• I think that the studio scene was the most fun
to shoot. The stage was exactly what we
wanted and was the scene that kept to our
original plans, so it did not involve any last
minute changes.
9. Evaluation
• I think that our production group worked well
as a team, so that we managed to get
everything done in time by the end of the day.
• Lessons that I learnt were to plan the
locations even further in advance, so that we
would be more prepared in the day and not
just film in random locations. To make sure to
order the props further in advance, so there is
not a last minute panic the night before.
