1. Filming Performance: Setup
• This was a full day of filming we had planned for some time, it took place in my partners
home as this was easily accessible to all of the ‘band’ members that were present during the
shoot. He was also in the video at this point and I took the role as director and cameraman.
• The day stated with the setup this involved getting leads and amps for our video. We also had
to get the drums into the room and set them up in a position where they would be able to be
filmed.
• We had to set the amps up so that they worked and played the song we were recording as
well as produced the sound of the bass and guitars that we were using, this was so
everything was in time and so that we could link the sound with the footage for the best end
product.
• I got some initial photos and some initial footage to work with and see the best possible
angles for the camera and after I had done that and everything was in order we were ready
to start filming.
• Tuning the instruments was also important so that they all sounded correct, even though we
were dubbing the sound over it had to sound right live as well for it to be as realistic as
possible.

2. Filming Performance
• Filming the performance was a long process, we spent quite a bit of time filming and went
through the sound around about 6-7 times to get different angles for the shots.
• I filmed from various amounts of angles to try and get the best shots that we could edit onto
our music video and this did mean that I was standing on the back rests of chairs to get the
aerial advantage however the end effect was worth it.
• We had some times where we filmed more than once to have a choice from a couple of takes
as this is the professional thing to do when filming to get the best out of what you are trying
to film.

3. Filming: link between performance
and story
• The link that I had in mind was for the band (including my partner) and the protagonist (me)
to be in the same world and for the band to be aware of the protagonist presence. This
would link the whole music video together really well and so on the same day we filmed
these parts and did them in a way so that I could film half of it (the part I wasn’t in) and my
partner could film the part that I was in to level out the amount of filming we did that day.
• The first part I filmed and directed was for two of the band members to notice someone
walking outside the window looking upset. I directed this by telling the two members to look
out the window as if they had seen someone looking really upset and I also told them the
premise for the whole video which allowed them to get into character a little easier, this
short shot took three takes to get right because it couldn’t be poor, it had to be just right for
the mood of the video we wanted to create.
• The next step was to get another shot of them looking out the window (getting a closer look)
this shot was intended for the whole band but it proved too difficult to get everyone in shot
and have the shot look good enough for what we wanted so we settled with two band
members as opposed to 4.
• After this we filmed my part outside and my partner filmed me walking down the street in 3
different angles so that we could edit it all together later on during the editing process.
