2. WHAT ARE WE SHOOTING/EDITING/WORKING ON TODAY
• We shot the gym scene today which will be edited into a montage using Final Cut
Pro. We used the gym in Sunmarke School as its free access and was during the
time we wanted to film quiet. It was beneficial to us because it was easy to
communicate the idea to the actors and organise the space to match what we had
planned for the scene.
• Extras were needed in the scene as they added a more realistic look. The extras
where in the background using the gym equipment and non of them had lines so
they were quiet.
• We focused more on Kapkan and Soap in this scene. This was to show the
competitive side of each character however Kapkan is introduced as a much more
stronger character which then allows the audience to emphasis for Soap. We have
shots of both characters partaking in the same physical activity, the use of different
camera angles (medium, close-ups and pans) were used for the audience to
acknowledge the way the two characters act and react to each other.
4. HOW DID IT GO
• Filming went well and smooth, the production crew and cast knew exactly
what to do and they were fully prepared. The actors were responding well
to what they had been told and the crew were very organised.
• We had a storyboard created so we followed the shots that were planned
however we did add some new shots that we thought looked better e.g
lateral tracking shot.
• We used a limited filming equipment when filming the gym scene mainly
because it was going to be a montage which meant no sound need to be
reordered as we will be using background music which will be added when
editing. We did use a DSLR camera and we did have lighting equipment on
set however we never used it because we used the natural high key lighting
from outside which reflected into the gym.
5. WHAT WENT WELL TECHNICALLY AND
AESTHETICALLY
• We created meaning through the use of mies-en-scene, which
means everything the audience can see in the scene has a
meaning and purpose. We took that into consideration whilst filming
and considered what the actors were wearing, what they were
doing and how the physical setting looked.
6. WHAT PROBLEM DID WE ENCOUNTER
• We faced two major problems whilst filming, the lighting and two birds that had
flown into the room.
• The lighting was an issue because we were using the natural light that
reflected into the room and we had limited amount of time to use the gym. It
made it difficult to shoot certain shots from a particular angle and some gym
equipment were placed in an area that didn't have any lighting which made it
difficult to shoot. We did come up with a solution to move equipment that we
could into an area which had light.
• Whilst filming the windows of the gym were open and somehow to birdseed
flown in. This was problem because it meant we had to stop filming as we
needed the birds out of the room. We wasted time trying to get the birds out
and eventually we called the gates keeper to remove them from the room. It
took about 20min to do this as well as tidy up the mess they had made.
7. WHAT WE PLAN TO DO NEXT
• We plan to shoot Chiefs office scene next and we have to organise
a date and time to do so. We also plan on doing the meeting scene
which we need to organise extras for that. The will needed to be
contacted as soon as possible and we need to find a time and day
they are all free. The extras play an important part as they make
the scene look more realistic.
• We also need to work on the Postcard and the Website. We have
scheduled a photoshoot from the Postcard, we need Mike and
Mustafa for that.
