1. Evaluation
In this assignment we had to get into a group and make a short film. We had to choose what
job role we wanted to have either the Director, Camera person, Sound recording or the Production
runner and then understand the role and responsibilities of our job we had chosen. Each of us were
good at the roles we had chosen. We all wrote a proposal and then a script, then we sat round a
desk and read each other’s scripts to choose which one we liked the most and wanted to make into
our short film. As a group we then choose a part of the script to make story boards on then scanned
these to put on our blog, we also used these when we went out to film to make sure we got all the
shots in order and we didn’t miss any scenes out. We went out and found a suitable location to
shoot our film, we made sure the location suited the short film.
We booked out a camera and tripod for a week and made sure the weather was alright so it
didn’t interrupt our shooting schedule and made it harder for us to go out and film. Some days when
we had planned to film it rained so we had to cancel filming which ruined our filming schedule, also
the next day the location we were filming in had gotten muddy from the rain so this stopped us
filming as well. I took pictures of the group filming and acting as evidence to put on our blogs. I kept
a production log to show what I had done and when I had done them.
Once we had all the footage I made a project on Adobe Premiere to edit the clips together to
make a rough edit of our short film. It took me a while to edit the footage because I kept changing
how I wanted to edit each clip. Once I finished my first edit I uploaded it to my blog then I re-
watched it and wrote down what I wanted to change and improve. I then improved my final edit and
once I was happy with it I then added the music. Once I had put the music on my short film I then
started making the opening and ending credits on Adobe After Effects, once I finished these I put
them in my film and exported the film out.
I don’t think I used as many editing techniques as I could. I did simple editing cuts
throughout the film, this is so the audience concentrates more on the content rather than the
editing. I chose soundtracks I thought would go with this short film, then I cut them down and
placed them where I thought they would fit in well with the scenes.
If I were to make this film again I would defiantly change a few things. I would add dialog
instead of just having music so it would explain the film better. I think the short film is confusing
because there is no dialog to explain what’s happening throughout the short film. I would also shoot
the shots differently sticking more to the script. Also I would film footage so you could see the
monster so it’s clear as to what is chasing the character. The only thing I would keep the same in the
short film would be the music as I think it fits in with the film and also builds suspense.
