City Of God
It's a reason why City of God was such a critical acclaimed movie. It's a stunning story and editing
was amazing. Set in a small town in Brazil where drugs and killing were pretty much allowed the
main Character was a young man who loved to take photographs for a living. Even though the city
where the young man who name is Rocket lived at was gritty and rough the Beach scene in the
movie is what caught my eye. To me the beach scene was the best part of the movie. Just seeing the
water was a beautiful and showing when the girl kisses Rocket on the cheek was probably one of the
best shot the DP could get. Once you get into the actual city in the movie you saw a rough looking
town where people live. It kind of reminds me of the houses in the inner city of Chicago, which is
also gritty and rough. Another reason why the city in City of God reminds me of Chicago is because
of the how rough it is in the inner city but just like Brazil Chicago has a beach too. What I find is
interesting is that most people who visit Chicago only go to the beach and the downtown area just
like if we would go to brazil. I think the goal the director was trying to capture in the beach scene is
the beauty of Brazil. To also show that even though this movie ... Show more content on

I think in that type of environment the editor did a real good job because that's a scary place to live
in. Now in the pacing of the scene, they first showed the beach in a flashback. Rocket and his
friends got back home from school and decided to go to the beach. On the beach you see Rocket
looking at the girl of his dreams. I think the pacing was real good because you get a small break
from the killing and grittiness. It also sets up a potential love life for Rocket even though it fell
through later on in the movie. After the beginning you didn't really see much more of the beach,
which I think, is a good move from the director who probably wanted to keep the focus on the

Baseball Narrative
Mid Afternoon, Saturday I was in the field with Grampa collecting eggs to take over to Mr. Wilsons.
All of a sudden we heard a gunshot. We weren't surprised we knew it was Keet playing with his .22
rifle again. Then, we heard another shot. Grampa told me to take the eggs, me! I did not want to go
over to Mr. Wilson's at all. When I arrived at Mr. Wilson's he was yelling at Keet and he took his
rifle because his shots broke a window. Keet was crying like a baby. I left the eggs on the floor and
ran, Lucky and Rufus the dogs chasing after me. Seconds later Keet burst out furious. I dove into the
bushes to hide. Rufus sniffed out my hiding spot luckily Keet didn't see me. I went back home and

Then I heard it too, it was like thunder in the distance. Then a plane flew over us from out of
nowhere. It was flying way too low and the sound was ear–shattering. We started running like
scattered ants. We climbed a tree to get a better view. We could see seawater being protruded into
the air from explosions. We then realized that the smoke was real and that we were in danger. I tried
to get the attention of the pilot in the dark plane, he was wearing a white cap. I dawned on me. Dark

Dust Buddies Dusting Under The Couch Will Never Be The...
Beware of the Dust Buddies: Dusting Under the Couch Will Never be the Same Again Dust Buddies
is a short film about a terrified, dust bunny who must rescue his ill–fated friends from a vacuum
cleaner bag. The opening of the animated feature leads us to a trail of crumbs. First, we want to
vacuum. Second, we believe the food trail leads us to something hideous and nasty, but it's not.
They're tiny, cute, and hungry dust bunnies. What's remarkable, is that one dust bunny, the runt, is
reluctant to leave his shelter, under a table. It's genius, the vacuum can only go so far, so he gets
food by using an open paperclip tool to stab crackers, dropped just outside his safe haven. As the
bigger bunnies go out and get plenty of food, before the maid arrives, we know what going to
happen. We humans, feel the natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maid looks at the plug with suspicious eyes and wonders how in the world did the vacuum
unplug itself. A group bunnies are safe, gathered, under the table and just as the last two bunnies hop
inside the escape tunnel, WHOOSH! The vacuum is roaring and pulling. The runt and his buddy
barely escape death, then seek revenge to battle the maid, who was just doing her job. Poor thing.
Created by Beth Tomashek and Sam Wade, Dust Buddies, will suck you in to the danger and
intrigue of a tiny dust ball gathering his courage to save his friends. The animation has superb detail,
down to the editing. The intercuts were perfection, strengthening the level of intrigue and threat. The
colors are a bright and brilliant. The French accordion, gave the film a feeling of blissful relaxation
and the symphony took us on a roller coaster of danger and suspense. Well done. I'm convinced of a
dust bunny's life and how it really looks on the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag. Check out Dust

Charlotte's Web Coming Of Age Quotes
Like Annemarie and Kirsti Johansen, Fern Arable in Charlotte's Web also grows and changes, fitting
her into the "coming of age" theme. Throughout the novel, Fern goes from a small eight–year–old
girl to a "tween." At the beginning of the novel, Fern wrestles an ax out of her father's hands to save
Wilbur, the runt pig and the main character in the novel. After pleading her case about why they
should let her keep the pig, she gets her way. Fern then devotes all of her time to taking care of
Wilbur. She begins to fill the mother role in Wilbur's life. She bottle feeds him, tucks him in and
takes him everywhere, even to school. Wilbur is the main focus of her attention. At this point, she
"love[s] Wilbur more than anything" (White, 8). At this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arable, about all the interesting conversations the barn animals have when she goes and visits
Wilbur at her Uncle Homer's. Fern believes that Wilbur and the rest of the animals can talk. Her
mother then becomes worried for Fern's "lively imagination" but Fern's father reassures her that
Fern is just a kid and maybe Fern is right about animals talking (White, 47). At this point, we see a
change in her parents. They go from worrying about Fern to being more understanding of her
imagination and childlike ways. But this does not matter because sooner or later, things start to
change. After Fern takes Wilbur to her Uncle Homer's farm, she begins to shy away from Wilbur
and her childlike imagination. She starts to focus on other things. Wilbur is there to fill the void of
wanting a relationship in her life, but throughout the novel, Fern stops playing pretend and starts
growing up. She ditches her relationship with animals for real–life relationships with people,
especially boys. At the fair near the end of the novel, Fern "puts on her prettiest dress because she
knows she will see boys at the fair" (White, 101). Over the novel, her focus goes from taking care of
Wilbur's every need to one of the boys in her class, Henry

Round And Dynamic Character Of Fern The Pig
After reading through the novel I would identify Fern as being a round and dynamic character.
Throughout the course of the novel we learn many details about Fern's personality and we also get
to see how her character develops as the stories plot progresses. One of Fern's most defining
character traits is developed at the very start of the novel when she saves Wilbur from being killed.
When she realizes that her father is about to kill Wilbur due to the fact that he was born a runt she
rushes after her father and convinces him that it would be unfair to kill Wilbur because of something
he can't control "But it's unfair", cried Fern The pig couldn't help being born small, could it, If I had

Charlotte Vs Wilbur Essay
Children books have changed some over the course of years, but many still have the same effect as
they did back in the day. One of my favorite novels is Charlottes Webb by E. B. White. The story
was about a little pig name Wilbur who was born a runt. To be born a runt most simply means to be
born the smallest out of the litter. But most of his siblings though that he would be weak due to his
size compared to theirs. As the books goes on a man by the name of Mr. Arable wants to kill Wilbur
and eat him for dinner because he is the perfect size for a dinner table. Wilbur was saved, due to a
little girl named Fern who begs her father to let Wilbur live. If my memory remembers right Wilbur
was about five months old at the time when Fern wanted to kill and cook him. Due to fern

Wilbur was a very friendly pig and mingled with all of the other farm animals. Wilbur has built a
friendship with Charlotte, a very wise spider who was grey is color. So Wilbur overhear Fern's uncle
saying his was to be there main course for Christmas dinner and immediately tells Charlotte about it.
Charlotte and Wilbur come up with a plan so that Wilbur won't be killed for Christmas dinner. The
plan consisted of Charlotte being Wilbur's watch out while Wilbur hides from Fern's uncle who us
try to kill him since he has matured with age. But Wilbur and Charlotte ended up at the State Fair
where they enjoyed, seeing the smiles on everyone faces. Ultimately, Charlotte dies after hatching a
lot of eggs. Wilbur becomes sadden and promised Charlotte that he would see after her children.
Although, the children can never fill Charlotte's spot, but they will always be a reminder of her.

Charlotte's Web Charlotte's Web is a moving story about farm animals. Many writers use abstract
and abstruse diction to interpret a particular idea but E. B. White is different. The language used, the
style, and the plots in this book are very humorous that I find it so impressive. The author, E. B.
White, excels in creating animal characters that can talk and feel normally like humans as a simple
farm was depicted as a lively family.
Wilbur, the protagonist, is a runt among a litter of pigs. He would be slaughtered if Fern, the
farmer's daughter, didn't stop his father from killing the pig. Persuaded ... Show more content on

Another word 'HUMBLE' is woven by her, which keeps on attracting people at the fair. At last,
Wilbur wins the special prize for 'the most terrific, radiant and humble pig that has fascinated many
visitors to the great County Fair'. This is the greatest moment in both the lives of Wilbur and
Charlotte. From then on, Wilbur is cleared of being killed, and instead, he receives a most
comfortable life.
However, good times don't last long for Charlotte, as she becomes feebler and feebler and she dies
soon after Wilbur's triumph, leaving an egg sac which carries all her eggs. Eventually, Wilbur, being
the best friend of her, brings the egg sac home for Charlotte's sake and he is glad to see her next
generation later in spring.
You may find it ridiculous to come across such unusual friendship – friendship between a spider and
a pig. They belong to two animal species which are worlds apart. Spiders are cold–blooded and
always occupy dark corners, capturing insects; while pigs are mammals that are used to living under
warm sunlight and hoping to be fed. See the difference? However, this story conveys to us a
message that a sincere friendship will not be wavered by external factors such as nationalities,
religions and family backgrounds. Charlotte and Wilbur are good examples. Charlotte, although
feeling weary and is about to lay eggs, comes with Wilbur

Are People Inherently Good Essay
The Good Within Us: An Argumentative Essay If you just stand still, are you being good or evil?
The definition of good is to be desired or approved of ("Dictionary" 1). Most humans aim to be the
best version of themselves that they can be. This is a form of showing attempt to be desired or
approved of. This is why humans are good. Human beings are inherently good, and this is shown by
history and literature. To begin, humans are inherently good and this is illustrated by Martin Luther
King Jr., and Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist who made a large
contribution to the civil rights movement ("Martin Luther King Jr." 1). History.com states, "He was
the driving force behind Watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott..." ("Martin Luther
King Jr." 1). This evidence proves that humans are good because he stood up for the rights of others
to let all people live the lives they deserve. Mahatma Gandhi also fought for human rights in a
peaceful way ("Mahatma Gandhi" 1). History.com also states, "Martin Luther King Jr. was highly
influenced by Mahatma Gandhi..." (Martin Luther King Jr." 1). This statement shows that humans
are more greatly impacted by good people rather than evil. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Charlotte's Web is a story about a girl named Fern who stops her dad from killing a pig runt and
helps bring it to health. This book shows that humans are naturally good because at first the dad was
going to kill the pig because he did not want it to suffer, but then Fern saves it and brings it back to
health. These are two acts of lovingness, and kindness. The book states, "Underneath her rather bold
and cruel exterior she had a kind heart, and she was to prove loyal and true to the very end" (White
41). This quote is symbolic of human nature, because if a human does something bad it does not
mean that they are evil, they could be kind hearted but have just made a bad

Misconceptions About Evolution
Throughout history we have slowly gained more and more information about genetics, our
environment, and how they interact with each other. Neither of those things could determine a
human's (or any other animal's) independently, but when you put them together you learn why
humans are the way they are. Genetic diversity, natural selection, and evolution are just a few of the
incredible things that makes humans, as well as all living things, truly beautiful. The first question I
would like to answer is, "How does genetic diversity provide the material for 'natural selection'?" It
all comes down to who and what can survive and reproduce. Without genetic diversity, it would be
more difficult for natural selection to eliminate those who cannot provide good and strong genes for
generations to come. For example, the runt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A shark cannot look into the future and decide that in order to be prepared, it will mate with another
species of shark and thus produce a new species that can withstand rising temperatures. Living
beings change and adapt as the environment changes. Humans can be put into a stressful workplace
and instead of quitting, we have the ability to adapt to our surrounds by finding ways to cope or
lessen the stress. We make changes as needed, much like evolution. There are three misconceptions
about evolution. One of these is that an animal or being can make changes in preparation for the
future even though those changes will have no use in the current conditions. Another one of these
misconceptions is that each being has a specific path and time frame they're supposed to take to
reach certain levels of evolution but there is no definite schedule. The last one of these
misconceptions is that natural selection can be deemed right in the human sense of right or wrong.
However, all things that are natural are not necessarily good, and this is referred to as the naturalistic

Charlotte's Web Theme
Charlotte's Web is a great story about friendship and staying together when times are tough. It is a
great story but also a great story to analyze. The story Charlotte's Web has many themes also. These
themes include Friendship and love, Coming of age and Admiration. These themes are very
important to the story and make up the plot. They also add lessons to the story itself.
The first theme of Charlotte's Web is Friendship and Love. Charlotte and Wilbur are really good
friends. That means making sacrifices and being loyal to one another. However even good friends
can have their arguments. Both of them have flaws so this can cause quarrels. Sometimes Charlotte
can be impatient and Wilbur can get self–involved when he needs to focus on other ... Show more

In the story there are two types of people that grow up. Humans and animals. For Wilbur he's
gaining new friends and standing on his own feet. For the girl Fern she needs to branch out and
spend more time with friends. It's a very tough time with her being antisocial and spending all of her
time with Wilbur. They both have up's and have down's. It reminds us that everybody grows up
whether they want to or not.
Another theme in Charlotte's Web is Admiration. Almost everybody enjoys being in the limelight.
For Wilbur it means extra mud, more food, a warm bed and many admirers. However, admiration is
not always fun and games. It also means survival. If Wilbur gets positive attention from other
people, then his owners will want him to live and be on the farm. If not, then he's going straight to
the butcher. This is a challenge for Wilbur but he we be able to get through it with hard work and he
will also have help from his friends.
The last theme is perseverance. In Charlotte's Web there are a lot of characters who work really hard
when times are tough. Wilbur and his friends work especially really hard when times are tough. It
really pays off too. Charlotte works really hard on her web to save Wilbur. Perseverance is very
positive but it also has people wondering. Is there a down side to working so hard? Or they may

made a disgusting smell in the barn. This saved Charlotte from Avery.
Charlotte wrote SOME PIG in her web. Everybody was surprised and happy with Charlotte's
message. They thought it was a miracle! Charlotte has a meeting of all the animals in the barn. She
asks Templeton if he can get a magazine clipping. Charlotte wrote a new word in her web. It
was...TERRIFIC!
Mrs. Arable is worried about Fern and has a discussion with Dr. Dorian. He says maybe the animals
really do talk and kids pay better attention than adults. It's late summer and Wilbur will be going to
the County Fair. Charlotte is not sure she can go because it is egg–laying time.
Everyone was dreaming about and getting ready for the Fair. Wilbur fainted when he heard Mr.
Arable talking about ham and bacon. There's a pig named Uncle at the Fair and he's bigger than
Wilbur. Wilbur is worried about his "competition" and Charlotte.

Charlotte's Web Essay
Most children are reading fantasy books to entertain them and inspire their creative minds. From
history up to today books are more appealing to children due to the entertainment aspect and
pictures to draw children in the book. Today teaching a child or entertaining a child with the content
in the book is separated most children's books. Although this concept of teaching and entertaining
can overlap when the author puts both together in a book even without seeming so. An author such
as White using fantasy in the book Charlotte's Web allows him to teach a coming of age story for a

The readers of the book will draw in by not only the fantasy and pictures of the book, but also the
storyline White has given in this book. Most children of this age are early in school learning to be
away from family and having to make friends on their own. White makes the connection in reader's
age to the book by that topic of growing and making friends in a new environment. White only
makes the lesson easier to come about with the fantasy added into the book. The underlying lesson
in Charlotte's Web of coming of age is shown in two types of characters: animals and kids. These
two characters struggle with growing up and having to make new friends when they are in a new
environment than before. White has Fern and Wilbur growing up throughout the book, but does not
mention to the reader how to overcome that difficulty; White just has the plot similar to what a child
can face in their life. At the beginning of the book Fern is in love with Wilbur and feels inseparable
with him. "She loved to stroke him, to feed him, to put him to bed." (White 8) Fern saves Wilbur
from her father killing him since he was the runt of the litter; Fern then is responsible for taking care
of him. Once

City Of God : Movie Review : The City Of God
The movie, The City of God, is based on a true story that took place during the early 1960s in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil. The movie tells a story from the point of view of a boy named Rocket. He was
born and raised in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Throughout the film, he struggles with the fear of
being dragged into crime, violence, and drugs. His goal is to one day break free from the slums in
which he is currently trapped. The surrounding environment and society during this time was highly
influenced by what everyone else was doing.
The main characters were saboteurs and always causing corruption around town. Some notable
characters would be Shaggy, Goose, and Clipper who together comprised a group called the "Tender

It allows the audience to connect with each individual character and to understand the characters'
feelings. One scene in this film that had a big impact on me related to a "runt" named, Steak. Steak
classified himself as a man because he said he kills, snorts, and smokes. The word "runt" in this film
is another name for a young kid. He was only about 8 years old. The scene depicts Steak bragging to
superior people in order to fit in. He felt peer pressured to say he did all these horrible acts, which
was extremely saddening because, in reality, a kid his age should never be exposed to crime, murder,
or drugs.
During this time Brazil is a dictatorship but the film does not emphasize it enough to make it a
central theme of the movie. It is a shame that kids who grow up in these certain situations don't
know any other way of life than the type of culture they are surrounded by. The idea of little kids
killing people just perpetuates the trend of senseless killing that seems to be prominent in these
communities. Life does not seem to retain much value to them. It becomes their nature to kill and do
drugs, starting at such a young age. In a very similar way, kids in more developed communities, like
America, do not fully understand communities where every day is a fight for life. Whether it was
decades ago or today, it is crazy to think that horrific situations like these occur at all. Killings,
armed robberies, drugs, and crime, defines life in the slums.

Animal Farm Heroism Essay
Heroism on the Farm– Who Has It? What would you sacrifice in order to save the runt of a litter of
pigs? Would you sacrifice anything at all? How far would you go in order to save this pig? These
questions are answered in E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, in which an eight–year–old named Fern
saves the runt of the pig's litter. The story follows the journey of this girl, her pig Wilbur, and the
spider, Charlotte, who also decides to help save Wilbur's life, after finding out he will be slaughtered

This quote, is one of the final scenes of the story, describes Wilbur, in a desperate attempt to take
Charlotte's egg sac back to the farm with him, as he tells Templeton he will get to eat first from his
trough for the rest of his life. E.B. White builds Templeton as this character through word choice and
diction when referring to him. On page 46, the rat is described as having "no morals, no conscience,
no scruples, no consideration, no decency, no milk of rodent kindness, no compunctions, no higher
feeling, no friendliness, no anything." The rat is greedy and self–centered, and is not considered a

Masculinity In City Of God
City of God is a movie that takes place in Rio De Janerio beginning in the 1960s. It is a story of a
young Brazilian boy named Rocket who observes and experiences the shift in power and how that
power is gained and maintained in the world of drugs. It can be said that unsavory choices are made
in order for L'il Ze to get to the top, however it could be argued that he is just playing by the rules of
the street. This is how macro–subcultural theories apply to the movie City of God, leaders take and
maintain power through force as they have been taught and continue to teach others to do.
Elijah Anderson's code of the street is remarkably applicable to the actions of the boys in this story.
In his theory Anderson states that violence and other behavior is a learned response to threats to
masculinity and reputation. There is a large focus around the protection of masculinity by the boys
in this film. L'il Ze is one of the main culprits of asserting their masculinity. L'il Ze is a hoodlum
who came to power in the "City of God" by killing other drug dealers to control the market. In the
beginning of the movie, he protested he was a man and deserved a gun more than Goose and that he
should go into the brothel for the stick up. The need to prove his masculinity continued far beyond
his childhood and in much more aggressive ways. He constantly tried emasculating others by doing
things like calling them "fags", this insult was meant to calls one's competence to be a man into
question.

Summary: The Soldiers In The Rape Of Nanking
Whilst it may be shown that the self is a vessel of terror, it is not difficult to factor out some of the
reasons that allow for the self to be terrorized or be susceptible to the element of terror. The self is
influenced by a number of factors, and these factors determine how they react to fear within
themselves, and whatever it is they are in fear of. These factors include the relationships they keep
(Conrad and his Mother/Father in Ordinary People), their mental condition (Nina in Black Swan), as
well as the environment and groups that they are a part of (The Soldiers in the Rape of Nanking).
While these factors all have different impacts on the individual, they may all have similar outcomes
if not catered to adequately. Due to a desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most especially in developing countries, we see the military personnel being bound by only
obedience to the central authority. This, in turn, causes them to take matters and lives into their own
hands, killing and eradicating anyone they feel may constitute a threat to their governance. The story
of Nanking is a perfect example of how military groups operate in terror. In most developing
countries, the military ruler is different from the civilian leader, which often creates room for coup
d'etats. In the absence of a military leader, the officer in charge of the armed forces assumes full
responsibility for all affairs associated with the military, in order to allow the military operate
separately from the civilian arm. This, in turn, causes the military group to operate independent of
instructions from the President, and solely based on instructions from officials who are either a)
trying to dethrone the government in power, or b) have personal agendas against particular tribes or
groups. This tends to lead to a self–sabotaging government and gives room for an easier execution
of a coup d'etat. Even in the absence of malice and political ambitions, these military groups exist as
a form of terror, as they usually do not feel bound by the constraints of the law. This explains the
senseless killings in Nanking, and why it took so long before it was finally halted. This also sheds
more light on Hotel Rwanda, and the reason for a very high military involvement in what may be
considered a disastrous and inhumane series of events. Whilst the Hotel Rwanda plot may focus
more on the tension between the tribes, it is not difficult to point out what effect the separation of
groups played in the reaction of the government officials towards the situation at

Analysis Of Hana's Suitcase And Charlotte's Web
Hana's Suitcase and Charlotte's Web are two very different styles of books. Hana's Suitcase is a real–
life story about a girl who suffered a terrible injustice at the hands of social world beliefs. During the
time Hana Brady lived in the 1930s and where she lived in a town called Nove Mesto na Morave in
the Province of Moravia in Czechoslovakia she herself, her family and many other Jewish people
suffered tremendously and so many people were murdered. On the other hand, Charlotte's Web is a
story about a pig named Wilbur who was born the runt of the litter and was going to be killed
because of his size in comparison to his siblings. Although they are very different types of books

She would do almost anything to avoid wearing the yellow badge in public. She hated the star. It
was so humiliating. It was so embarrassing. Wasn't it enough, the children wondered, that they'd lost

character versus social world conflicts. Wilbur faced it when he was born Mr. Arable wanting to kill
him because he was the runt of the litter he was the smallest on the group of pigs that were born.
Fern spoke up and saved Wilbur that day she started caring for him and feeding him so that he
would grow to be full sized pig. Hana faced many issues just because she was Jewish and born into
a Jewish family. She originally was growing up as a normal child, until the social world conflicts
started wreaking havoc on the life of her and her family. I started out as trivial things here and there
but over time it was complete segregation. She was not allowed to play with her friends, go to the
park, the movies, even the time she could leave her home and be home by were ordered. She was
sent with her brother to a concentration camp where many people were killed just for being Jewish.
This was done under the leadership on Hitler and the Nazi's. Both Wilbur and Hana faced

Theme Of City Of God
Released in 2002, the movie "City of God" presents a number of key urban planning issues that a
developing country might experience. The film seeks to illuminate several ideas related to the
development of slums and the type of life associated with such areas, as well as urban crime and
gangs. This film clearly illuminates the issues associated with government or public housing and the
social networks that come up when people do not have a private space. The effects of limited living
space are increased crime and the development of local governments that run parallel to the legal
units set up in the country. A discussion of the urban planning issues arising from this film will
follow, in light of the issues raised by Suketu Mehta in the article ... Show more content on

Violence is one of the core themes associated with this film. In the City of God, many youths join
gangs from a very tender age. In fact, it is easy to identify which gang one is supposed to join,
depending on the side of the slum that one lives in. Further, this film shows that in the slums, armed
violence is extremely common. It is easy to acquire guns and other sophisticated weapons in this
city and almost everyone is armed; even children are armed. This has led to the increase in the
number of crimes in slum dwellings. As depicted in the film, boys chase after a chicken with guns,
which is a normal occurrence in the area. Mehta broaches this subject in her article when she
explicates a robbery scene, "I thought he was a beggar asking for money. Then I saw the gun, going
from my head to the cell phone" ( Mehta 2013). Gangs are also commonplace as illustrated in the
film through The Runts, one led by Li'l Ze, and another led by Carrot. These gangs operate freely in
the slum and are actually supported by the community. In fact, these gangs have taken over many
parts of Rio de Janeiro and the government has started pacification programs to get rid of them
(Mehta 2013). These efforts have been successful to some extent, but there still are many gang–led
slums in the

Analysis Of Lewis Nordan's Wolf Whistle
In his novel, Wolf Whistle, Lewis Nordan depicts a racist society. The society and the citizens within
it are not only mean and nasty, but also self–absorbed. However, between narrating a loose account
of a 14 year old black boy's murder and telling the stories of the citizens of Arrow Catcher,
Mississippi, Nordan gives a sort of ray of hope for the future. Since the actual murder is somewhat a
minor aspect of the novel, and the book lacks any real major black characters, readers may get the
impression that this is a negative aspect of this book. In fact, that was the feeling that I got; it was as
if the lack of concern for this murder implied how the whites actually viewed blacks, as not as
important. Yet, maybe because of Bobo's murder, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and drinking. No matter how much he missed his wife, Fortunata, or realized that drinking was
slowly killing him, he did not bother to do anything about these things. He even admitted that he
"doubted" that she would even come back, because he had not changed (page 88). He obviously
thought only of himself and not of what was good for him and his family (including his wife).
Likewise, Roy Dale was miserable without his mother. He was bitter, and he only did what he
wanted to do which was mostly practice for the arrow–catching team. Yet, after the murder and all
the events surrounding it took place, one sees these two characters began to change. For instance,
Runt began to think of what he could do to make his wife happy such as to stop drinking and to give
his parrot away. But, one sees Runt begin his transformation when he chooses to change his name.
He believes that he wants to change his name because of the fact that "a body was found" which the
reader eventually finds out is Bobo (page 196). Moreover, within the novel, there were those few
characters that offered to the other characters this little chance for change. Namely, these characters
are Alice and Smoky Viner. First of all, because Alice was able to have the chance to live away from
Arrow Catcher, she has the advantage of having a different perspective on life

Summary Of City Of God
Movie Review
City of God is about two young men choose different paths. Rocket is a budding photographer who
documents the increasing drug–related violence of his neighborhood. José "Zé" Pequeno is an
ambitious drug dealer who uses Rocket and his photos as a way to increase his fame as a turf war
erupts with his rival.
In the 1960s, the favela is a newly built housing project far from the centre of Rio de Janeiro, with
little access to electricity and water. Three impoverished, amateur thieves known as the "Tender
Trio" Shaggy, Clipper, and Goose rob and loot business owners. Several younger boys idolize the
trio.
In the 1970s, the favela has transformed into an urban jungle. Rocket has joined a group of young
hippies and enjoys photography. Li'l Zé along with Benny he has established a drug empire by
eliminating all of the competition. A relative peace has come over the City of God under the reign of
Li'l Zé, who avoids police attention.
In the early 1980s, both sides enlist more "soldiers". Zé provides weapons for the Runts, and
eventually the reason for the war is forgotten. One day, Zé has Rocket take photos of him and his
gang. After Rocket leaves his film with a friend who works at a newspaper office downtown, a
female reporter publishes one of the prints, a major scoop since nobody can get into the City of God
anymore. Rocket believes his life is endangered, as he thinks Ze will kill him if he returns to the
favela. Rocket agrees to continue taking photographs, not

Disco Pig Romanticism
The Tragic Irish Romance: A Film Review of Disco Pigs (2001)
The film, Disco Pigs (2001), by director Kirsten Sheridan presents the tragic romance of two
teenagers living in Cork, Ireland. The plot of the film revolves around the friendship of Darren
(Cillian Murphy) aka. "Pig" and Sinéad (Elaine Cassidy) aka. "Runt" as they grow up together in a
small town. The friendship, however, begins to take on a more romantic "twist" when Pig becomes
jealous of Runt's burgeoning relationship with Marky (Darren Healy) in their teenage years. More
so, Runt wants the relationship with Pig to remain platonic, but he adamantly refuses. After being
separated by family by having Runt sent to a boarding school, Pig continues to pursue her. More so,

). In this film, IRA member, Fergus (Stephen Rea), inadvertently falls in love with Dil (Jaye
Davidson). In an unusual romantic twist, Dil turns out to be transgender, which challenges Fergus'
heterosexual identity. Ironically, Fergus eventually falls in love with Dil, which is not unlike the
transformation of Pig's platonic relationships into a romantic interest in Runt. Although The Crying
Game deals primarily with transgender relationships, it is apparent tht both films define romantic
love within the context of Irish culture. These films present the calamitous nature of tragic love,
which defines the death of Pig and the imprisonment of Fergus for taking the blame for a murder
committed by Dil. Disco Pigs (2001) deals with the grave circumstances of romantic love, which
typically deal with the undercurrent of violence tht stems from conflicts within Irish culture, such as
The Troubles. However, the overarching theme of Disco Pigs (2001) and The Crying Game (1992)
represents an Irish perspective on tragic romantic love that can only consummated through death
and dysfunctional relationships. Disco Pigs (2001) is exceptional film that defines the evolution of
platonic love into the tragic downfall of Pig and Runt in the romantic calamity of teenage

Where The Red Fern Grows Characters
Have you ever seen two humans and noticed that they are very different from each other? All
humans have different appearances no matter how small, just like all dogs. In addition, every human
and dog faces conflicts in different ways. These differences make everyone unique. Old Dan and
Little Ann are two redbone coonhound characters in the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by
Wilson Rawls, that have different appearances and methods of dealing with conflict. However, they
both have similar personalities. First of all, Dan and Ann have very different methods of handling
conflict. Old Dan does not think much before he goes into action. Billy announces, "It was the voice
of Old Dan ... In some way he had gotten into that old muskrat den" (107). He was on the tail of a
coon when he got stuck in the den. Dan did not think about it before he tried to find the coon. This
demonstrates that he is impulsive. There is also another time that Dan ... Show more content on

Billy reports, "Old Dan, seeing the fate of his little friend (Little Ann), had quit the chase and come
back to help her" (115). Dan quit chasing the coon and went over to assist Little Ann when she was
in trouble. This shows that Old Dan is loyal to Little Ann. Also, Old Dan only hunts with one
specific hound. Billy announces, "[Old Dan] would not hunt with another hound, other than Little
Ann ... he would not hunt, even with me, unless Little Ann was with him" (102). Old Dan again
shows that he is loyal because he does not hunt by himself with Billy or with other hounds.
Similarly, Little Ann left to help Old Dan. The author composes, "There, scratched deep in the soft
leaves were two little beds. One was smaller than the other" (93). Ann left the doghouse and went to
aid Dan's effort in keeping the coon in the big tree. They slept together in beds they made all night to
make sure it did not leave. This reveals that Little Ann is loyal to Old Dan. Both characters are very

the story takes place is not specified but the settings would include an unnamed and vast forest and

Analysis Of The Hood Film: City Of God
The film City of God portrays the life of the youth living in one Brazil's most dangerous favela's
Cidade de Deus or City of God. Through a sequential storytelling style, the film is broken in to mini
stories that document the rise and fall of the main characters who live in City of God. Although
there are central characters with which the narrative follows. the objective of the film is an attempt

the film and its social commentary about life in a favela it should be dissected and compared

Yes Spalpeen, that's what he is doing.(161–162)
This fascinated Brian very much.
Unquestionably, everything that is born and lives, must eventually die. Death is an unavoidable fact
of life, and cannot be escaped. The deaths in the novel start out from not very significant, to the very
shocking ones. Brian was becoming aware of death but was not influenced very much from such
deaths like the gopher, the rabbits and Mr. and Mrs. Wong. After his dog Jappy's death,
Brian realizes how fragile life is. It was a complete shock to him when his dad suddenly died. Brian
did not know what to feel. It was as if Brian's life was over, and he felt lost and lonely without his

"People were forever born, people forever died, and never were again. Fathers died, and sons

Thus, Brian begins to realize that the world is full of strange and unexplained things. Brian does not

Analysis Of The Film ' City Of God '
The film, "City of God" portrays numerous of brutal acts of violence and crime. This film depicts
the deviant acts of a sociopathic gang leader, Li'l Ze and his fellow members. He recruits numerous
of young kids and teaches them how to become a hood. He kills those who try to stop him from
getting what he wants, which is being the one and only drug dealer. He leaves the town of Rio in

characters, Rocket, beats the odds and decides to not be lured into the deviance. Although not all
children are delinquents or have criminal tendencies, those who are learn from the intimate groups
they associate with. These deviant acts are depicted in several sociological theories such as: Agnew's
General Strain Theory, Learning Theory, Merton's Strain Theory, Reckless Containment Theory, and
Labeling Theory. All individuals have the ability to conform to the rules and norms of society.
Merton's Strain Theory suggests people feel strain when they are unable to attain society's goals

society says to, some will do so by committing criminal behaviors. This theory also explains, in

Inequality In Wilbur's Life
The other female in Wilbur's life, Charlotte, is introduced into the novel as Wilbur's friend, to
extinguish the feelings of loneliness and heartache that he experiences when Fern is no longer a
constant fixture in his life. During this time, Wilbur goes into a state of depression, exclaiming, "I'm
less than two months old, and I'm tired of living" (White 16). Charlotte sees Wilbur's desperation,
and calls out to him, saying "Do you want a friend, Wilbur?... I'll be a friend to you. I've watched
you all day and I like you" (White 31). From this exchange, one would expect that Charlotte and
Wilbur's "friendship" involved both of them contributing equally and caring for each other.
However, this turns out not to be the case, as Charlotte quickly ... Show more content on

At the end of the novel, Charlotte even says to Wilbur, "Your success in the ring this morning was,
to a small degree, my success" (White 163). The way that Charlotte views Wilbur's successes as her
own, mirroring the way that mothers often view their children as extensions of themselves, displays
how the two characters have become deeply unified. This type of empathy and sacrificial love once
again signifies the way that Charlotte serves as both martyr and savior–wanting no credit of her
own, but only the good of the person she is sacrificing herself for, because saving him is the
equivalent of saving herself. In classic martyr fashion, the story of Charlotte ends when, as the result
of her work and efforts, she dies. Of her death, White writes, The Fair Grounds were soon deserted.
The sheds and buildings were empty and forlorn. The infield was littered with bottles and trash.
Nobody, of the hundreds of people that had visited the Fair, knew that a grey spider had played the
most important part of all. No one was with her when she died. (White

about the people that care about him, and he saved Ponyboy. Johnny and his gang are greasers but
that does not stop them from stepping out and helping people in their gang. The first reason why he
fought the socs bob was because bob was drowning ponyboy and Johnny had to stop Bob before
Pony died. The reason why pony was evan outside when then happens is because he was running

Johnny killed Bob,so Pony and Johnny ran away. Dally gave Pony and Johnny a knife and some
money and told them where to go to hideout until the whole scene was over with. ... Show more

Ponyboy jumped out of Dally's car and ran inside to save the kids. When they were inside Johnny

City Of God

  • 1. City Of God It's a reason why City of God was such a critical acclaimed movie. It's a stunning story and editing was amazing. Set in a small town in Brazil where drugs and killing were pretty much allowed the main Character was a young man who loved to take photographs for a living. Even though the city where the young man who name is Rocket lived at was gritty and rough the Beach scene in the movie is what caught my eye. To me the beach scene was the best part of the movie. Just seeing the water was a beautiful and showing when the girl kisses Rocket on the cheek was probably one of the best shot the DP could get. Once you get into the actual city in the movie you saw a rough looking town where people live. It kind of reminds me of the houses in the inner city of Chicago, which is also gritty and rough. Another reason why the city in City of God reminds me of Chicago is because of the how rough it is in the inner city but just like Brazil Chicago has a beach too. What I find is interesting is that most people who visit Chicago only go to the beach and the downtown area just like if we would go to brazil. I think the goal the director was trying to capture in the beach scene is the beauty of Brazil. To also show that even though this movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think in that type of environment the editor did a real good job because that's a scary place to live in. Now in the pacing of the scene, they first showed the beach in a flashback. Rocket and his friends got back home from school and decided to go to the beach. On the beach you see Rocket looking at the girl of his dreams. I think the pacing was real good because you get a small break from the killing and grittiness. It also sets up a potential love life for Rocket even though it fell through later on in the movie. After the beginning you didn't really see much more of the beach, which I think, is a good move from the director who probably wanted to keep the focus on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Azuki Bean, the runt of the litter is her favorite pup. The next day I went to play some baseball. While we were playing Billy suddenly fell silent listening to the sounds in the distance. Then I heard it too, it was like thunder in the distance. Then a plane flew over us from out of nowhere. It was flying way too low and the sound was ear–shattering. We started running like scattered ants. We climbed a tree to get a better view. We could see seawater being protruded into the air from explosions. We then realized that the smoke was real and that we were in danger. I tried to get the attention of the pilot in the dark plane, he was wearing a white cap. I dawned on me. Beware of the Dust Buddies: Dusting Under the Couch Will Never be the Same Again Dust Buddies is a short film about a terrified, dust bunny who must rescue his ill–fated friends from a vacuum cleaner bag. The opening of the animated feature leads us to a trail of crumbs. First, we want to vacuum. Second, we believe the food trail leads us to something hideous and nasty, but it's not. They're tiny, cute, and hungry dust bunnies. What's remarkable, is that one dust bunny, the runt, is reluctant to leave his shelter, under a table. It's genius, the vacuum can only go so far, so he gets food by using an open paperclip tool to stab crackers, dropped just outside his safe haven. As the bigger bunnies go out and get plenty of food, before the maid arrives, we know what going to happen. We humans, feel the natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maid looks at the plug with suspicious eyes and wonders how in the world did the vacuum unplug itself. A group bunnies are safe, gathered, under the table and just as the last two bunnies hop inside the escape tunnel, WHOOSH! The vacuum is roaring and pulling. The runt and his buddy barely escape death, then seek revenge to battle the maid, who was just doing her job. Poor thing. Created by Beth Tomashek and Sam Wade, Dust Buddies, will suck you in to the danger and intrigue of a tiny dust ball gathering his courage to save his friends. The animation has superb detail, down to the editing. The intercuts were perfection, strengthening the level of intrigue and threat. The colors are a bright and brilliant. The French accordion, gave the film a feeling of blissful relaxation and the symphony took us on a roller coaster of danger and suspense. Well done. I'm convinced of a dust bunny's life and how it really looks on the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag. Check out Dust Buddies, run time, 4:05 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ6eeAjgSZI. Eleanor ... • 7. Charlotte's Web Coming Of Age Quotes Like Annemarie and Kirsti Johansen, Fern Arable in Charlotte's Web also grows and changes, fitting her into the "coming of age" theme. Throughout the novel, Fern goes from a small eight–year–old girl to a "tween." At the beginning of the novel, Fern wrestles an ax out of her father's hands to save Wilbur, the runt pig and the main character in the novel. After pleading her case about why they should let her keep the pig, she gets her way. Fern then devotes all of her time to taking care of Wilbur. She begins to fill the mother role in Wilbur's life. She bottle feeds him, tucks him in and takes him everywhere, even to school. Wilbur is the main focus of her attention. At this point, she "love[s] Wilbur more than anything" (White, 8). At this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arable, about all the interesting conversations the barn animals have when she goes and visits Wilbur at her Uncle Homer's. Fern believes that Wilbur and the rest of the animals can talk. Her mother then becomes worried for Fern's "lively imagination" but Fern's father reassures her that Fern is just a kid and maybe Fern is right about animals talking (White, 47). At this point, we see a change in her parents. They go from worrying about Fern to being more understanding of her imagination and childlike ways. But this does not matter because sooner or later, things start to change. After Fern takes Wilbur to her Uncle Homer's farm, she begins to shy away from Wilbur and her childlike imagination. She starts to focus on other things. Wilbur is there to fill the void of wanting a relationship in her life, but throughout the novel, Fern stops playing pretend and starts growing up. She ditches her relationship with animals for real–life relationships with people, especially boys. At the fair near the end of the novel, Fern "puts on her prettiest dress because she knows she will see boys at the fair" (White, 101). • 9. Round And Dynamic Character Of Fern The Pig After reading through the novel I would identify Fern as being a round and dynamic character. Throughout the course of the novel we learn many details about Fern's personality and we also get to see how her character develops as the stories plot progresses. One of Fern's most defining character traits is developed at the very start of the novel when she saves Wilbur from being killed. When she realizes that her father is about to kill Wilbur due to the fact that he was born a runt she rushes after her father and convinces him that it would be unfair to kill Wilbur because of something he can't control "But it's unfair", cried Fern The pig couldn't help being born small, could it, If I had been small at birth, would you have killed me" ... One of my favorite novels is Charlottes Webb by E. B. White. The story was about a little pig name Wilbur who was born a runt. To be born a runt most simply means to be born the smallest out of the litter. But most of his siblings though that he would be weak due to his size compared to theirs. • 13. Charlotte's Web Essay examples Charlotte's Web Charlotte's Web is a moving story about farm animals. Many writers use abstract and abstruse diction to interpret a particular idea but E. B. White is different. The language used, the style, and the plots in this book are very humorous that I find it so impressive. The author, E. B. White, excels in creating animal characters that can talk and feel normally like humans as a simple farm was depicted as a lively family. Wilbur, the protagonist, is a runt among a litter of pigs. Another word 'HUMBLE' is woven by her, which keeps on attracting people at the fair. At last, Wilbur wins the special prize for 'the most terrific, radiant and humble pig that has fascinated many visitors to the great County Fair'. This is the greatest moment in both the lives of Wilbur and Charlotte. From then on, Wilbur is cleared of being killed, and instead, he receives a most comfortable life. However, good times don't last long for Charlotte, as she becomes feebler and feebler and she dies soon after Wilbur's triumph, leaving an egg sac which carries all her eggs. Eventually, Wilbur, being the best friend of her, brings the egg sac home for Charlotte's sake and he is glad to see her next generation later in spring. You may find it ridiculous to come across such unusual friendship – friendship between a spider and a pig. They belong to two animal species which are worlds apart. Spiders are cold–blooded and always occupy dark corners, capturing insects; while pigs are mammals that are used to living under warm sunlight and hoping to be fed. See the difference? However, this story conveys to us a message that a sincere friendship will not be wavered by external factors such as nationalities, religions and family backgrounds. Charlotte and Wilbur are good examples. Charlotte, although feeling weary and is about to lay eggs, comes with Wilbur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Are People Inherently Good Essay The Good Within Us: An Argumentative Essay If you just stand still, are you being good or evil? The definition of good is to be desired or approved of ("Dictionary" 1). Most humans aim to be the best version of themselves that they can be. This is a form of showing attempt to be desired or approved of. This is why humans are good. Human beings are inherently good, and this is shown by history and literature. To begin, humans are inherently good and this is illustrated by Martin Luther King Jr., and Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist who made a large contribution to the civil rights movement ("Martin Luther King Jr." 1). History.com states, "He was the driving force behind Watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott..." ("Martin Luther King Jr." 1). This evidence proves that humans are good because he stood up for the rights of others to let all people live the lives they deserve. Mahatma Gandhi also fought for human rights in a peaceful way ("Mahatma Gandhi" 1). History.com also states, "Martin Luther King Jr. was highly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi..." (Martin Luther King Jr." 1). This statement shows that humans are more greatly impacted by good people rather than evil. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are two acts of lovingness, and kindness. The book states, "Underneath her rather bold and cruel exterior she had a kind heart, and she was to prove loyal and true to the very end" (White 41). • 17. Misconceptions About Evolution Throughout history we have slowly gained more and more information about genetics, our environment, and how they interact with each other. Neither of those things could determine a human's (or any other animal's) independently, but when you put them together you learn why humans are the way they are. Genetic diversity, natural selection, and evolution are just a few of the incredible things that makes humans, as well as all living things, truly beautiful. The first question I would like to answer is, "How does genetic diversity provide the material for 'natural selection'?" It all comes down to who and what can survive and reproduce. Without genetic diversity, it would be more difficult for natural selection to eliminate those who cannot provide good and strong genes for generations to come. For example, the runt ... Humans can be put into a stressful workplace and instead of quitting, we have the ability to adapt to our surrounds by finding ways to cope or lessen the stress. We make changes as needed, much like evolution. There are three misconceptions about evolution. One of these is that an animal or being can make changes in preparation for the future even though those changes will have no use in the current conditions. Another one of these misconceptions is that each being has a specific path and time frame they're supposed to take to reach certain levels of evolution but there is no definite schedule. The last one of these misconceptions is that natural selection can be deemed right in the human sense of right or wrong. From history up to today books are more appealing to children due to the entertainment aspect and pictures to draw children in the book. White only makes the lesson easier to come about with the fantasy added into the book. The underlying lesson in Charlotte's Web of coming of age is shown in two types of characters: animals and kids. Steak classified himself as a man because he said he kills, snorts, and smokes. The word "runt" in this film is another name for a young kid. He was only about 8 years old. The scene depicts Steak bragging to superior people in order to fit in. He felt peer pressured to say he did all these horrible acts, which was extremely saddening because, in reality, a kid his age should never be exposed to crime, murder, or drugs. During this time Brazil is a dictatorship but the film does not emphasize it enough to make it a central theme of the movie. It is a shame that kids who grow up in these certain situations don't know any other way of life than the type of culture they are surrounded by. The idea of little kids killing people just perpetuates the trend of senseless killing that seems to be prominent in these communities. Life does not seem to retain much value to them. It becomes their nature to kill and do drugs, starting at such a young age. In a very similar way, kids in more developed communities, like America, do not fully understand communities where every day is a fight for life. Whether it was decades ago or today, it is crazy to think that horrific situations like these occur at all. Killings, armed robberies, drugs, and crime, defines life in the slums. ... • 34. Masculinity In City Of God City of God is a movie that takes place in Rio De Janerio beginning in the 1960s. It is a story of a young Brazilian boy named Rocket who observes and experiences the shift in power and how that power is gained and maintained in the world of drugs. It can be said that unsavory choices are made in order for L'il Ze to get to the top, however it could be argued that he is just playing by the rules of the street. This is how macro–subcultural theories apply to the movie City of God, leaders take and maintain power through force as they have been taught and continue to teach others to do. Elijah Anderson's code of the street is remarkably applicable to the actions of the boys in this story. In his theory Anderson states that violence and other behavior is a learned response to threats to masculinity and reputation. There is a large focus around the protection of masculinity by the boys in this film. L'il Ze is one of the main culprits of asserting their masculinity. L'il Ze is a hoodlum who came to power in the "City of God" by killing other drug dealers to control the market. In the beginning of the movie, he protested he was a man and deserved a gun more than Goose and that he should go into the brothel for the stick up. The need to prove his masculinity continued far beyond his childhood and in much more aggressive ways. He constantly tried emasculating others by doing things like calling them "fags", this insult was meant to calls one's competence to be a man into question. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary: The Soldiers In The Rape Of Nanking Whilst it may be shown that the self is a vessel of terror, it is not difficult to factor out some of the reasons that allow for the self to be terrorized or be susceptible to the element of terror. The self is influenced by a number of factors, and these factors determine how they react to fear within themselves, and whatever it is they are in fear of. These factors include the relationships they keep (Conrad and his Mother/Father in Ordinary People), their mental condition (Nina in Black Swan), as well as the environment and groups that they are a part of (The Soldiers in the Rape of Nanking). Most especially in developing countries, we see the military personnel being bound by only obedience to the central authority. This, in turn, causes them to take matters and lives into their own hands, killing and eradicating anyone they feel may constitute a threat to their governance. The story of Nanking is a perfect example of how military groups operate in terror. In most developing countries, the military ruler is different from the civilian leader, which often creates room for coup d'etats. In the absence of a military leader, the officer in charge of the armed forces assumes full responsibility for all affairs associated with the military, in order to allow the military operate separately from the civilian arm. This, in turn, causes the military group to operate independent of instructions from the President, and solely based on instructions from officials who are either a) trying to dethrone the government in power, or b) have personal agendas against particular tribes or groups. This tends to lead to a self–sabotaging government and gives room for an easier execution of a coup d'etat. Even in the absence of malice and political ambitions, these military groups exist as a form of terror, as they usually do not feel bound by the constraints of the law. This explains the senseless killings in Nanking, and why it took so long before it was finally halted. This also sheds more light on Hotel Rwanda, and the reason for a very high military involvement in what may be considered a disastrous and inhumane series of events. Whilst the Hotel Rwanda plot may focus more on the tension between the tribes, it is not difficult to point out what effect the separation of groups played in the reaction of the government officials towards the situation at ... This film clearly illuminates the issues associated with government or public housing and the social networks that come up when people do not have a private space. Violence is one of the core themes associated with this film. In the City of God, many youths join gangs from a very tender age. In fact, it is easy to identify which gang one is supposed to join, depending on the side of the slum that one lives in. Further, this film shows that in the slums, armed violence is extremely common. It is easy to acquire guns and other sophisticated weapons in this city and almost everyone is armed; even children are armed. This has led to the increase in the number of crimes in slum dwellings. As depicted in the film, boys chase after a chicken with guns, which is a normal occurrence in the area. Mehta broaches this subject in her article when she explicates a robbery scene, "I thought he was a beggar asking for money. Then I saw the gun, going from my head to the cell phone" ( Mehta 2013). Gangs are also commonplace as illustrated in the film through The Runts, one led by Li'l Ze, and another led by Carrot. These gangs operate freely in the slum and are actually supported by the community. The society and the citizens within it are not only mean and nasty, but also self–absorbed. However, between narrating a loose account of a 14 year old black boy's murder and telling the stories of the citizens of Arrow Catcher, Mississippi, Nordan gives a sort of ray of hope for the future. Since the actual murder is somewhat a minor aspect of the novel, and the book lacks any real major black characters, readers may get the impression that this is a negative aspect of this book. He obviously thought only of himself and not of what was good for him and his family (including his wife). Likewise, Roy Dale was miserable without his mother. He believes that he wants to change his name because of the fact that "a body was found" which the reader eventually finds out is Bobo (page 196). He appears to be a good father and takes care of his children. He also tries to calm Mrs. Arable's fears about her daughter's notions that animals can talk. Disco Pig Romanticism The Tragic Irish Romance: A Film Review of Disco Pigs (2001) The film, Disco Pigs (2001), by director Kirsten Sheridan presents the tragic romance of two teenagers living in Cork, Ireland. The plot of the film revolves around the friendship of Darren (Cillian Murphy) aka. "Pig" and Sinéad (Elaine Cassidy) aka. "Runt" as they grow up together in a small town. The friendship, however, begins to take on a more romantic "twist" when Pig becomes jealous of Runt's burgeoning relationship with Marky (Darren Healy) in their teenage years. More so, Runt wants the relationship with Pig to remain platonic, but he adamantly refuses. After being separated by family by having Runt sent to a boarding school, Pig continues to pursue her. In an unusual romantic twist, Dil turns out to be transgender, which challenges Fergus' heterosexual identity. Ironically, Fergus eventually falls in love with Dil, which is not unlike the transformation of Pig's platonic relationships into a romantic interest in Runt. Although The Crying Game deals primarily with transgender relationships, it is apparent tht both films define romantic love within the context of Irish culture. These films present the calamitous nature of tragic love, which defines the death of Pig and the imprisonment of Fergus for taking the blame for a murder committed by Dil. Disco Pigs (2001) deals with the grave circumstances of romantic love, which typically deal with the undercurrent of violence tht stems from conflicts within Irish culture, such as The Troubles. However, the overarching theme of Disco Pigs (2001) and The Crying Game (1992) represents an Irish perspective on tragic romantic love that can only consummated through death and dysfunctional relationships. Disco Pigs (2001) is exceptional film that defines the evolution of platonic love into the tragic downfall of Pig and Runt in the romantic calamity of teenage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All humans have different appearances no matter how small, just like all dogs. In addition, every human and dog faces conflicts in different ways. These differences make everyone unique. Old Dan and Little Ann are two redbone coonhound characters in the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, that have different appearances and methods of dealing with conflict. However, they both have similar personalities. First of all, Dan and Ann have very different methods of handling conflict. Old Dan does not think much before he goes into action. Billy announces, "It was the voice of Old Dan ... In some way he had gotten into that old muskrat den" (107). He was on the tail of a coon when he got stuck in the den. Billy announces, "[Old Dan] would not hunt with another hound, other than Little Ann ... he would not hunt, even with me, unless Little Ann was with him" (102). Old Dan again shows that he is loyal because he does not hunt by himself with Billy or with other hounds. Similarly, Little Ann left to help Old Dan. The author composes, "There, scratched deep in the soft leaves were two little beds. One was smaller than the other" (93). Ann left the doghouse and went to aid Dan's effort in keeping the coon in the big tree. They slept together in beds they made all night to make sure it did not leave.
