2. Since I will be doing a music video, I have decided to
choose Adele’s ‘Hello’ soundtrack to create my
music video to coincide with this. I will keep the title
the same, but replace the artists name with my own
‘Cara’ since it will be myself starring as the artist.
I decided to use this song as it has been recently
released and would appeal to the younger audience
for being newly released and will assist when
making ancillary texts for being modern.
3. After doing research into music video channels, I think my
music video will be most successful on chart music channels
which tend to be popular artists like Adele, which tend to be
Heart TV, Smashhits, and MTV Music. These channels tend to
focus on a younger viewing audience which is the audience I
also want to target. These are a mixture of free channels and
subscription channels so both type of households can still watch
my music video.
Another platform I will show my music video on would be
YouTube as it is the most popular music video viewing website
and app for the younger audience. This also enhances viral
success since the videos from YouTube can be shared on social
media, gaining a wider audience.
4. My target audience age would be ages 18-24 years as this age gap has the highest
interest in music and more likely to watch music videos especially if they appeal to them.
I will try and focus my music video to both males and females but I have no specific
preference on who to target. Due to the artist Adele appealing more to females with
researching with YouGov Profiler Lite, I will aim to make the music video from mainly
the females side of the break up so they can relate more to the situation.
I have no specific class that I want to target however after researching fans of Music and
Adele, I learnt that those into music are in a lower social class than those that are fans of
Adele. I will portray a middleclass female in my music video, to situate for both classes.
The genres used in the original ‘Hello’ music video are performance based and narrative
based. No abstract was included as the song itself only has a basic plot. I decided to also
use narrative and performance as abstract tends to only work efficiently for ‘dreampop’,
‘techno’ and ‘Indie pop’. Since Adele’s song ‘Hello’ is more soul/funk, I will be using the
selected genres.
5. The gender most likely to view my music video
would be female. This is because Adele appeals
more to a female audience judging by research. Also,
as my main artist in the music video is female, other
females can relate to the artist due to the
relationship scenario. With reference to the
narrative, the relationship break up with relate
more to females rather than males as females tend
to enjoy romance more.
6. Many camera angles will be used. Long shots will focus on the
actors involved to represent the distance between the couple. This
will also brand the artist as the audience will be able to see what
type of style of clothing she wears. Also, close up’s will be used to
capture emotion, in which audiences can recognise and empathise
with the actors. Many scenic shots will also be used as a form of
pathetic fallacy such as rain and clouds to show sadness and sun to
show happiness.
In terms of filter usage, the original music video is in sepia. I
decided to adopt this feature so my audiences can recognise this is
the certain artist. Also, by adding a certain filter to my production
and ancillary texts, synergy will be easier to create and makes my
artist more successful with branding and sales.
7. I would like to include transitions between shots to create a more
professional and stylistic element to my production. I would like to include
a cross fade to show the memories of the couple merging with the
depression the relationship has brought and how this is affecting the
artists emotions. As the song is quite slow yet dramatic near the end, slow
transitions will be used from clip to clip as this will pace the song. When
the song reaches the dramatic ending, the clips will be edited to a fast pace
to immerse the audience into the music video and build tension.
Another element I want to include would be slow motion and fast motion.
The slow motion will be used when the artist looks into the camera to
make the artists face look more dramatic and fierce, making the artist
appear she is looking through the lens, to the audience. Time lapses will be
used with the clock and clouds. This is to show how time has past like a
blur to the couple when they are not together.
