Evaluation question 3 ppt
1. What have you learned
from your Audience
feedback?
Audience Feedback for Tabula
2. The Questions we asked
• What were your first impressions of our
production?
• Were you impressed by some of the horror
conventions within the film
• Was there anything we could improve on?
• What was your favourite part?
3. Proven knowledge of you engaged
with your Target Audience
• We engaged our Target Audience by asking our
peers from college to view our short film
• We then filmed them straight after they viewed
Tabula and we asked them the questions that
were shown on the previous slide.
• Below this slide I’ll embed a YouTube video clip
which combines all of our audiences answers.
4. The strengths of our
audience testing
• Due to them viewing the film for the first time on the spot, we
could gain their truthful and honest opinions on the film as it
was fresh in their minds
• The questions we used were quite open questions, our
audience members weren’t forced into answering in a certain
way
• This enabled us to receive fair and honest reviews which we
were happy about and made our audience feedback a lot
easier
5. Weaknesses of our audience
testing
• The only main weakness I can evaluate from our audience
testing was maybe our audience members were put on the
spot a little
• This means they could have been put under pressure and not
given us their 100% calm and collected view
• We filmed via an iPhone 6S, so some of the audio quality may
not be as good as expected.
6. Statistics from our audience
feedback
• Some of the main statistics we collected at the end of our audience
feedback really highlighted what the majority of members enjoyed about our
film
• The big statistic that stands out compared to the rest is that, all of our
audience test members, all 100% of them said they loved the ending of
Tabula, due to it being the scariest part and “jumping” all of them
• A surprising statistic also came out as every 1 in 2 people we audience
reviewed, said that they wanted the acting to be improved a little and that
was the only fault we encountered
7. How did the feedback
change our project?
• When we first uploaded our draft/teaser product, we received a lot of
mixed views but took on board some valuable points
• The feedback from our audience changed our film due to many
recommendations to shorten and improve the character’s acting
• After the final product was released through YouTube, we gained a lot
of positive comments and feedback within the comments section of the
video
8. The main limitations of our
methods
• We could only gather audience feedback when our peers at college were free, therefore
it made it very restricted
• We didn’t have access to a great recording room and we only used iPhone’s to record
the views of our audience, even though the quality was ok, we couldn’t set up DSLR
cameras and tripods.
• That’s definitely one way we would improve our filming of the audience feedback, as it
would make it more professional, also add a microphone as well to capture great audio
• Another improvement is to change the setting of some of our audience feedback
interviews, it was quite open and so the noise wasn’t really concentrated in one place
• A small private room would of fitted better which would of been suitable for all of the
audience members
9. Why it’s important to hear
feedback as a Film-maker
• Feedback is extremely crucial for a Film-Maker due to how important the audience’s preferences
are, but also the modern day conventions for certain genres need to be shown in the films
• Mid-production, it’s a great way to see how the film is turning out but also to see how the audience
first thinks about it, this way, any edits can be made halfway through the film
• This can save the production team a lot of pain by releasing a film which hasn’t been audience
tested and gets a tonne of bad reviews
• The film-maker can also pick up on obvious mistakes that the audience has seen that maybe
he/she hasn’t - This can erase many mistakes but the film-maker can also carry on with other
conventions/aspects of the film if he’s received great feedback
• The film maker can elaborate on the narrative more, or the special effects if the test audience has
really enjoyed it
• Audience feedback is key to the quality of the finished product, it can be the difference between a
socially hated film, or a great
