Question 6
1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM
THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
2. Through making all three pages of the
tasked magazine, I have learnt to use
a range of new skills that I did not
previously have experience of. These
include the use of Adobe Photoshop,
Adobe InDesign, Blogger and also
how to take better photos by using a
camera more efficiently.
3. Using Adobe Photoshop
Before I started my coursework, I had no previous experience with using
Photoshop, so it took me a while to get used to how it worked. Whilst
using the program, there were a number of tools that I used to edit my
photos, including:
The clone stamp tool: This tool allowed for me to clone one part of a photo and
place it over another; I used this a lot when editing my photos as it allowed for me
to rectify any unwanted blemishes or shadows that appeared in my photos,
creating a more professional and near perfect style of photo.
The magic wand tool: This tool allowed for me to select a large area of the same
colour in a photo. With this, I was able to delete large unwanted areas of the
background in my photos, which create a plain background behind the models;
common of photos in magazines.
The eraser tool: This tool allowed for me to erase unwanted areas of a photo. I
used this extensively to erase areas of the background, including shadow. This was
used similarly to the magic wand tool.
4. Using Adobe InDesign
As with Photoshop, when I started my coursework I
had not previously used InDesign. As the year
progressed, I learnt how to use this program and found
it reasonably easy to use. It was in InDesign that I
produced and constructed all of my final products.
5. Using Blogger
Prior to the start of my coursework, I have never had any
experience with writing a blog or indeed using a blogging
website. Using Blogger was an entirely new experience for
me and at the start I found it rather complicated. I had no idea
how to write a new post or how to set the design for my blog.
After familiarising myself with it and gaining help from my
peers however, I managed to work out how to use Blogger
successfully. I was able to set the design of my blog which
included changing the colours, fonts and inserting a banner
with my name I had previously designed. I also was able to
label all of my blog posts so that it is easier to navigate
around my blog by clicking the labels in the top right corner to
find what you are looking for.
6. Using a camera
When taking my photos for my coursework,
I used a SLR camera. This was the first time that I had
used a camera of this style and there were many things to
take into consideration when using it, not only with the
camera itself but also with what you are taking a
photograph of. We were taught how to use this camera
with a white screen and lighting and I tried to use this
knowledge when taking my photos. I feel that I could have
been better when it came to taking my photos and
adjusting the lighting as many of my photos had unwanted
shadows. I realise that this camera was a good camera to
use as the quality of the photos are much better than
those of an average digital camera.
