6. What have you learntabouttechnologiesfromthe processof constructingthe product?
Throughoutmakingmymagazine,Iuseda wide range of new technologies.ImainlyusedInDesign
whencreatingmyfinal magazine product,howeverIalsousedPhotoshopforeditingof myimages.I
had neverusedInDesignbefore,nordidIhave any priorexperienceof Photoshop.Bothof these
software’s atfirstlookedcomplexandconfusing,howeverIwasable towatch tutorialstomaster
whatI neededtodo.
I useda programme calledNexusfonttoallow me todownloadawide range of fontsto be used
throughoutmymagazine.
Whenfirstcreatinga draft of my magazine,IusedInDesigntomapout where Iwouldplace the
imagesandwhere the textwouldbe going.Ididthisby usingthe placeholdertool,andusingfiller
textto geta realisticlookastowhat my magazine wouldlooklike once all the articleswere inside
the textboxestoo.
I editedmyimagesusingPowerPointandPhotoshop.Formyfrontcoverimage Iusedeyebrow
brushestofine tune theireyebrows,Ialsochangedmymale modelseyestogreenusingthe colour
blendellipse tool. Withmyfeature article spreadonIngrid,Iaddedcool tonesintothe photo. I also
duplicated the bubblesusingthe clone stamptool.Thisallowedmyimage tolookmore vibrantand
fitbetterwiththe purple colourscheme throughoutthe article.
I alsousedPowerPointforsome elementsof image editing,forexampleinmycontentspage,all my
imagesare croppedintoa shape where the edgesare rounded.Ididthisby usingthe crop to shape
tool on powerpoint.Itmade myimageslookmore edgyandalternative.
Whentakingthe imagesformy magazine,Iusedprofessional lightingtogive the imagesabright
clearlook.I choose to use a greybackground,as I thoughtgreywas mostsuitedtothe genre of
musicI was choosingto represent.
Once I had editedmyimages,Iplacedthemintomymagazine usingInDesignsplace tool.Here Iwas
able to zoomintothe imagesto getrid of the dominatinggreybackground.
For my 2nd
page feature article onElusive Dreams,Ialsouseda scannerto be able to place the image
of the artistsfact files.IthenusedPowerPointtoeditthe image tomake it easiertoview,usingthe
“photocopy”effect.Thismade myimage lookmuchclearer.
The access to all these technologiesmeantIwasable to create a realisticprofessional looking
magazine.
