Media Evaluation question 7
1. Evaluation Question 7 Looking back at your
preliminary task what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to your final
production?
2. At the start of this task I had little to no knowledge about Photoshop or
InDesign. I basically had to learn these skills as I went on through the tasks
and this may have been why I would fall behind in some tasks. I have
improved over the tasks, this is shown by the difference between my prelim
and my final piece will seems to be laid out much more professionally and the
colours go together well unlike in the prelim.

3. MISE-EN-SCENE
At the begging of the prelim task, I didn’t know what mise-en-scene was or
how it can impact my work, since then I have realised how every detail is
important and helps recreate its very own personality. The prelim product
of the school magazine, mainly included pictures of classrooms and
equipment in those classrooms. Whilst on final production, I wanted to
increase the quality of the mise-en-scene instead of just adding more props
and costumes to the set as I thought this could have created confusion to the
reader, which would then would have led the audience to go and read the
rest of the magazine.
4. Analysis of cinematography
Before taking any of the pictures, I did some research of the types of shots that
other magazines use, and some other shots to see if I would think of using them
in my final product. For the prelim I took a picture of their face from a medium
close up, but I didn’t really know what the shot was at the time I used it as the
detail was quite clear and detailed in itself. In the final product I used a
medium shot to show some of the outfit the model was wearing, this would
attract a wider male audience as they would be sexually attracted to the
opposite sex. This then rises the question of how I would manage to attract
males who may be homosexuals, this could be done by adding parts that detail
clothing worn by the model as this is how they are stereotypically shown in the
media.
5. What I’ve gained from this
The main things that I have learned from this is on how to use Photoshop, at the
start of the prelim I had no experience with Photoshop before, this was shown by
the basic design in my college magazine, I had no idea on how edit or how to
even put together the layers. By the end of the prelim I had learned a few things
about Photoshop and had managed to get through Photoshop without much
trouble. At the end of my final piece, I knew most of the things in Photoshop and
could do things with a lot more efficiency and not have to spend a lot of time
thinking or searching for the answers. I also learned how to use InDesign during
production of my double page spread, I learned that whenever you want to do
something new you just have to add a new layer, and I could’ve made some
pretty good products in there if I were to have some more knowledge in the
software or some more time to play around in it.
