My music magazine is going to have a pop sub-genre which is targeted towards white
females between the ages of 15 and 20.
Pop music magazines such as ‘We Love Pop’ and ‘Top of the Pops’ also have a target
audience of white females but they normally target there magazines towards younger girls
between the ages of 11 and 15. There content is usually created for pre-teen and this is
shown through the colours, images and text they use. For example a lot of the time they use
very bright colours like pink, yellow and bright blue that clash and therefore stand out. They
also use big text and have ‘silly’ quotes that would humour a younger audience. As these
magazines are for a more of a younger audience I wouldn’t base a lot of my magazine on
them. However, I would look into what artist they have used to get an idea of who I should
put in my magazine and see how they are styled and have their make-up so I can then make
my magazine look like it is a pop magazine.
Here are examples of the magazines. The artists featured on the magazine, are also popular
with my age group that are targeted to in my magazine. When I create my magazine I will
base it around these types of artists. My artist style will also be influence by how artists are
presented in these magazines.
Another magazine that will be similar to mine is Billboard. Even though Billboard isn’t a pop
music magazine it is targeted to an older target audience but still features pop artists that
are doing well at time. I will base a lot of the layout of my magazine on Billboard and take
ideas from it and add them to my magazine. I feel by doing this my magazine will been seen
as a magazine that is targeted towards an older female audience unlike other pop
magazines. There is currently a gap in the market for a pop magazine that is targeted
towards white females who are between the ages of 15-20 so that’s why I have to take
inspiration from different magazines in order to create this new type of magazine.
