Question 2
1. How does your media
product represent paricular
social groups?
QUESTION 2
2. Audience
My primary audience is both genders aged 16-25. The reason it’s a much wider
audience is because it will attract to more people. I would consider the audience
over 25 would be my secondary audience. Due to the artists their music can be
quiet explicit but not too explicit as there is still young adults as their target
audience. My audience is a much more mature age group and can handle the
artists choice of lyrics.
3. Price
I decided on the price of £3.99. The reason for this is because I think it is a
reasonable price for the younger adults and adults as 16 is the age people start
getting jobs and it Is not too cheap for my magazine to make money. Another
thing is it is a monthly issue and it would work out cheaper buying one great
quality magazine that 3-4 low quality magazines. My magazine offers a lot more
information so I think it is well worth the price. Also I include give always which
impacts on the price also.
4. Dominant image
I think my dominant image is appealing to my target audience. The
clothing and fashion is suitable as its not to exposed or revealing and tops
like that are in the fashion to my target audience. Her facial expression is
bland but is looking away which gives my audience the impression that
she is ’too cool’ and relates well with my genre. I chose Billboard as my
inspiration. I thought it would be a good idea using low key lighting on
my model, however, I didn’t like the though of my model making eye
contact as the pose I asked her to do wouldn't fit well with making eye
contact. I also liked the head and shoulders shot as it fills the magazine as
I don’t need to include much writing on mine. I think having a arm and
hand in shot was a good alternate as it doesn’t make the image too
boring.
5. Ethnicity
R&B, Rap and Hip-Hop and stereotypically been associated with African
Americans, however, over the years it has turned quiet mainstream such as Drake
and Rihanna as she appear in the charts regularly. I think my magazine appeals to
the stereotypical ethnicity as well as any other culture.
