Sociological Analysis Of Hip Hop And Rap Music
1.) In this class we have examined the sociological forces that created the social conditions from
which Hip–Hop emerged in the Bronx. Drawing upon Chang, as well as videos (Bronx is Burning,
Flying Cut Sleeves etc.), discuss the sociological roots of rap. Specifically, what social forces (for
example: state policies, global economic trends, technological advancements, community
characteristics as well as race, class, gender politics) were present and facilitated the development of
Hip–Hop? Hip–Hop is an extensive and a broad conglomerate of various artistic forms that
ultimately originated in the South Bronx and then quickly spread throughout the rest of New York
City among African–Americans and other African–American youth mainly from the Caribbean and
from Jamaica during the 1970's. Over the course of decades and recent years, controversy
surrounding Hip–Hop and rap music has been the vanguard of the media. From the over hype of the
East and West Coast rivalry to the deaths of Tupac, Biggie, and even Michael Brown and Trayvon
Martin, it seems that political and broadcasting groups have been injudicious to place essentially the
blame on rap and Hip–Hop music for a superficial trend in youth violence. Even though critics are
very quick to point out the vehement and intense lyrics of some Hip–Hop artists, they are ultimately
missing the point of their message. Similar to other different forms of music, Hip–Hop and rap
cannot be understood unless it is studied and analyzed

The Role Of Women And Their Participation During The Civil...
Women's role has evolved through time and it is clear that women did history, but they are not
always portrayed in the history books. That is why it is important to analyze the roles of women and
their participation during the Civil War. This was an important event that marked a change the role
of women in society. There are narratives and records of how women experienced, and contributed
during the Civil War. The women from the North, South, elite and poorer social status, they all had
different perspectives, rights, and roles. These women were involved in many aspects of the
economy, policy, and social services. There is one in particular, Clara Barton, who did an amazing
work during the war and then she was inspired to found the American Red Cross. During the Civil
War, women did not wait around for their loves ones to come back from the battlefield. Instead they
played many roles that made them important part of the war effort. Many women secretly enlisted in
the army – there are records of women cross–dressing in order to be accepted and treated as one of
the male soldiers –, some served as spies, smugglers, abolitionists, civil rights advocates, promoter
of women's suffrage, and participated in war relief efforts for both the North and the South, while
others became nurses and aides. There were four categories for soldering women: Daughters (or
Mothers) of the Regiment, Vivandiere or cantiniere, Battlefield nurse ("soldier nurse"), and Field
hospital nurse. In paper

Essay On BreakinFrom 1984
The film Breakin' from 1984, is a very popular film centered around the dancing culture of hip–hop
cinema. It was released as an "Indie Film" in the beginning of the rise of hip–hop. The main
character is Kelly, who has a desire to expand her jazz dance career to greater heights. She meets
two street dancer, Ozone and Turbo and Kelly developed a passion for dancing along side them. An
odd pairing, but one that would drastically advance Kelly's dance skills and ability, and she knew it
would be beneficial to her career. Kelly even assists them in dance battles against their rival street
dancing group. Kelly becomes the talk of the street dancing world, as she is a new talented addition
to Ozone and Turbo's team. Watkins describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also shows more crime that is going on during the time, and it allowed the general audience to
relate to hip–hop. While Breakin' is centered around breakdancing, Krush Groove exemplifies the
nitty gritty part of hip hop. This is centered around crime, and the determination to be successful in
the world of music. Russell Walker, started a music label that primarily focused on rap called Krush
Groove. Walker had difficulty keeping the label afloat, even though they often attracted very
popular artists. Krush Groove is based on the development of Def Jam Records which is still alive
and producing music today. Watkins points out the use of ghettocentric imagination and how the
lives of black youth are shown unfairly and unrealistically in this film. Watkins claimed "One of the
most persistent themes that gives shape to the ghettocentric imagination is the representation of the
urban ghetto as a site of represion and entrapment" (212 Watkins). Through the media, films and
music the black community was shown as a negative place full of violence and immoralities. Krush
Groove is proof of ghettocentric imagination as Russell failing and struggling with defeat. They
show him this way due to where he came from and the fact he invested in hip–hop. Donalson did
not look at the films in as negative of a light. He looked more at the meaning of the film rather than
the representation of black youth. Donalson said " By the late

Rap Music And The World

Older rock music was FULL of lyrics about living a life of drugs and sex and violence, where
women were nothing but groupies and sex objects to write songs about (Rhino, claim that rap isn 't

include the music industry. The government decided that the music coming from the ghettos
depicting a life from which the style of music was born from, was too graphic. So they targeted
artists making them high priority of law enforcement starting with intervening and shutting down
rap shows, and arresting artists for expressing themselves through their music. Rappers found
themselves going toe to toe with law enforcement in many parts of the country. These tactics only
enhanced the struggle making the realty of not being accepted by cooperate America more personal.
However, the government never calculated that the very music that they were trying to stop would

O Shea Jackson's Ice Cube: Gangsta Rap
This is the story of Ice Cube, Songwriter, rapper, composer, director, producer, actor, screenwriter,
and industry mogul. Ice Cube was born O'Shea Jackson on June 15, 1969. He was raised in South
Central Los Angeles by his mother Doris and his father Hosea, who, fearing the effects bad
influences would have on their son, had O'Shea bussed to Taft High School in the suburbs of San
Fernando Valley where he graduated in 1987.
Living in a neighborhood rampant with gangs and drug use, he used the violence and adversity he
witnessed in his community as inspiration for countless hardcore rap hits. Jackson changed his
named to Ice Cube, started rapping at the age of 14 and eventually became what some people
consider the founding father of "Gangsta rap". He achieved industry recognition through
nominations and awards including the VH1 and BET Hip Hop Honors. In the beginning of his
career, Ice Cube was a member of N.W.A., a notorious rap group that quickly rose to fame during
the birth of Gangsta rap and hip hop. The group had a falling out over money, however, and ended
up in an infamous battle of the rap stars which prompted Cube to take his music career solo. ...

Soviet Forces During The Soviet War
In February 1986, Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev announced that Soviet Forces would conduct a
phased withdrawal from Afghanistan. The fallout of this order would precipitate down to lower
echelons of Soviet armed forces in the form of Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) forces
taking the leading in combat operations against the Mujahideen (Grau p.110, 1998). With this in
mind, the Soviets pushed the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan Command to relieve the siege of
Khost by again attacking the Mujahideen strong point at Zhawar (Jalali & Grau p.97, 2000). The
Soviet approved plan called for 5 under–strength DRA maneuver brigades and one DRA artillery

The 38th Commando group had little experience in air assault missions, no collective combat
experience prior to this operation, and had not conducted an air assault to date (Grau p.87, 2011).
Additionally, the first lift of the 38th was scheduled to go in before sunrise on the 2nd of April. Of
all the concerns listed, the latter would turn out to be the greatest risk to the operation. Around
midnight on the 2nd of April, the DRA began artillery and aviation bombardment of the target area.
This was followed by the initial commando group's insertion. The commandos landed without
opposition, however they missed their landing zone by 15 kilometers and ended up in Pakistan
rather than on top of Dawri Gar. The missed insertion led to the ground assault force meeting heavy
resistance from Mujahideen defending Dawri Gar Mountain. As a result, the ground advance was
fixed in place. Had LTG Azimi followed the SOF Truth of "Quality is Better than Quantity" and
utilized a more experienced force, rather than a force comprised months before this operation, they
may have 2 successfully landed on Dawri Gar. However, the 38th Commando Group lacked all
necessary experience to conduct a night air assault successfully, but they were still tasked as the
main effort in an operation the Mujahideen were all too familiar with (Jalali & Grau p. 100, 2000).

The Difference Between Rap And Hip-Hop Music And Rap Music
Rap music is defined as popular music advanced by disc jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s.
This kind of music consists of a repeated beat pattern that provides the background for rapid, urban
language, accompanied by a vocalist. Hip–Hop music is a genre that originated in the United States
by inner–city African Americans in the 1970s, which consists of a stylized rhythmic music that
commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. The Difference
between rap and hip–hop music defined by EBONY is that hip–hop is a culture while rapping is one
of four elements contained therein–the others being breakdancing, DJing and graffiti. The
perception of rap music/hip–hop music by academic scholars is often accurate, in the portrayal that
types of rap/hip–hop musicians often exhibit violent, misogynistic, antisocial, and materialistic
content and behavior. Writer's Johnnetta B. Cole, Tia Tyree, Michelle Jones, Matthew Oware, Terri
Adams, and Douglas Fuller have all discussed the topic of rap music, and the ways in which it
exhibits violent, misogynistic, antisocial, and materialistic content and behavior.

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Blacker The Berry ' And '...
To many Kendrick Lamar is just another west coast rapper; and to a diehard group of fans he is the
king of west coast rap. But on the night of the 2016 Grammy awards, as he limped on stage, chained
to his backup dancers, Kendrick suddenly became more than just a rapper. His six minute
performance of "The Blacker the Berry" and "Alright" from his hit album To Pimp a Butterfly was
captivating, electrifying and so powerful it had him trending on Twitter for days to follow. This
reaction was the result of shock and praise as mainstream America was introduced to the
unapologetic blackness of Kendrick's art. Broadcasted on a network television station, the awards
show presented the perfect platform and opportunity for Kendrick to reach out to beyond his usual
fan–base. As all great artists do, Kendrick realized the rarity of the chance he was given and how he
could use the moment to do more than just display his talents as a rapper. His performance gloried
in its afrocentrism, with its medley of hip–hop, jazz, traditional African costumes and dance. But the
message in the lyrics Kendrick rapped, spoke of a uniquely American issue: the high rates of police
brutality against black men in the United States. One thing that is true is that rap music has a
negative reputation among the mainstream audience because of its heavy references to gang
violence, drugs, money, misogyny, sex, etc. Another truth is that rap music has been historically
considered a large part of black culture.

Gangster Rappers : Gangster Rap
Gangster rappers always encourage sex or demeaning women, where some songs are merely
produced with the purpose of disgracing women. Subject matters in a majority of gangster rap lyrics
usually deal with curious situations, as in the portrayal of women as dirty sex toys with no value
other than pleasure through looks and intercourse and even inventing words, such as "bennett,"
"poontang," and "thots." Furthermore, drugs are another topic widely spoken by gangster rappers,
where the songs contents even deeply influences people to try drugs, due to the perception that their
favorite performer thinks it's cool. For example, Eminem 's hit song "My Fault" made mushrooms
more popular than they had ever been with the public, due to the adulation of how drugs are fun;
furthermore, it also engendered new words like "coco" and "purp" into mainstream language use.
The last and the most common element of gangster rap is crime. Nearly every gangster rap song
mentions a robbery or illegitimate act of vandalism, to which these songs give other people,
especially younger adults negative ideas, putting the thoughts of committing any particular in the
minds of any gullible person. Gangster rap, furthermore, in of itself, is a similar form of poetry but
is in a musical form to entertain others in the forms of a "diss," which ultimately is intended to
disgrace an opponent if need be through a "beef" or otherwise known as a hateful argument.

Censorship of Music
In today's society, all types of music artists are expressing their views, opinions and feelings in their
songs about what they see and what they know. This is on of the great things about this country, the
freedom to express yourself. It is not fair, nor is it constitutional that music should be censored in
anyway. It is not only rap music trying to be censored it is in all types of music. They are taking
away their rights and it isn't fair. As reported in the New York Times. "Wall–Mart CD standards are

"We've got to speak their language" if the message of the record is "Don't call me a bitch" we have
got to allow the artist to get the message across. And sometimes it is necessary for the artists to use
language that grabs peoples attention. Inner City Broadcasting one of the largest black owned
broadcasting firms in the country, announced that its stations will not play music that is profane or
advocates violence, particularly against women or homosexuals. They announced they would not air
songs with the word's "bitch" and "ho" to refer to women. What we are doing, as responsible
broadcasters who are licensed to serve our listeners, is simply exercising our best judgment, said
Pierre Sutton, Chairmen of Inner City. (Viles 90)What bothers me is that they censor the music
because they are saying these words are portraying bad ideas, but they are just singing about what is
all around us and what we see. It is not like saying theses lyrics are anything new. A person or a
child is going to hear them regardless of any song with so called profanity in them. The people
singing are just telling the truth. I think a child has a better chance of hearing profanity in there own
home or school then by hearing it in a song. The recent Gangsta rap hearings on Capitol Hill bore all
the elements of 1985's dramatic Parents Music Resource Center debate–heated testimony talk of
labeling explicit lyrics and plenty of music biz attention. Led by Illinois Sen.

Hip–hop as a Cultural Movement What first comes to mind nowadays when you hear the word 'hip–
hop'? Most people think of a gangster embellished in large diamonds, sporting baggy clothes, huge
cars, all with a general disregard for the welfare of humanity. It wasn't always like this: hip–hop was
originally born as a recreational activity, used as an outlet to cope with poverty. The notion of hip–
hop has clearly changed in a big way since the advent of hip–hop culture back in the 1970s.
Contrary to popular belief, hip–hop is truly a deep–rooted culture that has used rap music as its
medium to appeal to its audiences. But time and time again, people have generally disregarded ...

Perkins explains how rap's focal point is self–expression through vocal means, through the poetic
style that was used by famous rap artists such as Run DMC (10). Little did the hip–hop community
know, this emphasis on self–expression would lead to a full–blown controversy. While hip–hop
embodies self–expression as a whole, rap took the ideal and took it to a whole new level: a new
form of rap music, 'gangsta rap', emerged as a byproduct of the individuality that hip–hop followers
pride themselves on. Author Tricia Rose sums up this controversy by saying "a key aspect of much
of the criticism that has been leveled at hip–hop is the claim that it glorifies, encourages, and causes
violence" (34). Riddled with misogyny and violence, rap has come under fire from numerous critics
saying that the music itself is socially inappropriate. Author Rachel Sullivan explains how these
opinions and attitudes towards rap music created a public view of hip–hoppers as African American
low–lifes, and how rap was blamed for supposedly generating a violent fan base (607). It doesn't
help the situation when rappers tend to revel in their 'gangsta' lifestyles. As a response to general
criticism, rap artists have used a term called 'keeping it real' to defend their music, saying that rap
music refers to the hardships of street life in the Bronx community (Rose 134). But while the battle
continued to rage on within the rap scene, others were forming their own opinions as

Inspired by other world leaders and empires such as Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar,
Napoleon in many ways stood on the shoulders of giants. He saw the possibilities and prospects

a force to be reckoned with. In the beginning of his career, he was very successful in terms of
military tactics and taking control of different countries. Take, for example, the First Italian
Campaign of 1796, where Napoleon's troops were outnumbered by about 25,000 soldiers. By
observing the troop's movements and tactics, he discovered their strategies and using reasoning, he
scattered the opposing forces and took each portion on separately. His strategy is described best in
the following: "When faced with superior numbers, he would divide the enemy army and defeat
each section individually by skillfully deploying his reserves at the right time and place. When faced
with inferior numbers, he would smash into an opponent's flank, distracting them and damaging
morale." (St. Rosemary) It is said that "Bonaparte had accomplished virtual miracles, [...] defeating
three different Austrian commanders, despite his inferior troop numbers and artillery and
nonexistent logistical support." (Schom, pg. 58) It was a close battle, and the French army may have
nearly lost, but Napoleon did manage to keep his troops stable enough to succeed against the odds.

Rap Music Censorship
In the article, the author mainly illustrated the relationship of the rapid growth of rap music and the
development of censorship frame from the 1990s. Rap music, especially gangsta rap, usually
connected with deviance such as crime and misogyny. The rap music received public negative
perceptions and media discourse. With the rise of the rap music, the content within rap music is a
concern in the music industry. The author also discussed the problem which perceptions and
opinions of society to rap music are shaped by the mass media reports and claim–makers such as
Parents Music Resource Centre (PMRC). Rap music has been demonization as a deviant or informal
form of music which gives the audience feeling of disgust and fear. The aim of the article is to give
public a better understanding of rap music and its role plays in the music industry. Rap music
sometimes represents subculture and political thoughts of the performer so it is important to
understand the rap music culture by a neutral sense. The mass media ignores the positive message
and meaning in the rap songs and focuses a lot on the deviant as a censorship frame and social
control.
The shared culture and the censorship frame have shaped rap music unfavorable to public and
received public criticism. Rap music was a civil way to discuss or rap about the social events and
political commentary. At that time, these content was excluded from the mainstream music and was

African Influence On Hip Hop

Music of Africa
African Influence in Hip Hop In the 1970s the shockwave that would be known as hip hop rose
from the economic situation of New York City, especially the black and Latino neighborhoods.
However, while hip hop music was born in the Bronx, it both is part of and speaks to a long line of
black American and African cultural traditions. Many observers also make a connection between rap
and West African griot tradition, the art of wandering storytellers known for their knowledge of
local settings and superior vocal skills. Additionally, rhymed verses are an important part of African
American culture in both the public and private realms. A great influence of rap and hip hop which

This African term is defined as rapping or fast pace speaking. This can involve rhyming patterns or
jokingly clowning or making fun of one another. This is where America gets the term "Roasting"
from and many know it as verbal battle between individuals mostly for entertainment and fun. For
its musical grooves, early hip hop incorporated elements of the party–based sound–system
subculture popular at the time in Jamaica. DJ Kool Herc also brought a form of the verbal art of
"toasting" to his parties. Jamaican DJs excited crowds by making up short raps to the beat of music,
adding "vibes" to the party. The toasts often referred to people in the crowd or to events at the party
itself. Dodd took rapping to Jamaica and Herc brought toasting back to the United States, where it
quickly became known as rap, the verbal side of hip hop music.
Afrika "Bam" Bambaataa fused the R&B music of James Brown, the funk of George Clinton, and
even the sometimes synthetic and cold European electronic music of groups like Kraftwerk to create

Whatever style suits you is the style that you should stick with.. I personally recommend using more
of slower style because when you are speaking slower it gives you more time to think of what to say
next.
Pre Write – A lot of people think that when you freestyle rap everything that you rap must be
completely off the top of the head when indeed that is not true. Very few freestyle rappers go 100%
of the top of the head. Think back to Eminem's hit movie "8 Mile". If you recall Em's character
worked on his freestyles a lot and used them to steal the show at the end.
A great freestyle rappers is able to mix creative pre written raps with witty off the top of the head
flows. Once you master this you are

Why Does Hamilton Choose Hip-Hop?
Anyone who watches Lin Manuel Miranda's hit Broadway show, Hamilton, can clearly see that he
chose hip–hop as the genre throughout the play. But by doing so, it made people question why and
what affect it has on the audience. Some people believe that Miranda chose hip–hop because that
was simply what came to mind when he examined Hamilton's characteristics. Rebecca Mead shares
this belief by stating, "Miranda saw Hamilton's relentlessness, brilliance, linguistic dexterity, and
self–destructive stubbornness through his own idiosyncratic lens. It was, he thought, a hip–hop
story, an immigrant's story" (Mead). Her response is a simple answer for a simple question. (I Say)
But, I think that the question is not that simple and believe that Miranda ... Show more content on

This allows the audience to feel more connected to characters who lived long ago. Hannah Wise
explains that this musical is original within its genre, hip–hop, when she states, "The music of
Hamilton is unequivocally hip–hop. It even features two cabinet meetings in the form of street–style
rap battles. And while there have been other musicals that make full use of a variety of musical
styles, hip hop is still a novelty" (Wise). Wise explains how the play Hamilton uses modern rap in
the rap battles. I believe this to be true and another reason why Miranda chose hip–hop is because it
is unlike the music of other Broadway shows. Hamilton's hip–hop genre helps it to be a true stand
out. Michael Paulson explains that the hip–hop genre of Hamilton separates this Broadway show
from the rest as he says, "By extensively featuring hip–hop music, the production looks to cross
some invisible boundary that often separates Broadway from the broader culture" (Paulson). In
today's day and age, there are several generations that have listened to rap and hip–hop for quite
awhile. However, this music is lacking in other plays. Hamilton has gained much popularity and has
much hype, which is due to its music. If it weren't for the hip–hop music, then a play about
historical figures would not be nearly as entertaining to today's audience. Miranda is brilliant to

B–Rabbit versus Papa Doc The pivotal scene that will be thoroughly represented and analyzed is
from the movie 8 Mile, directed by Curtis Hanson, and released in 2002. 8 Mile is a
semiautobiographical film based on the life story of the iconic rapper Marshal Mathers, or better
known by his stage name Eminem, and how he began his journey into the hip–hop industry. In this
film, Eminem plays himself, as the main character named Jimmy Smith Jr.; however, throughout the
course of the movie, he is referred to as Rabbit more than anything else. Rabbit lives in a very rough
part of Detroit known as 8 Mile, in a mobile home with his single alcoholic of a mother. Their
financial situation is dire and Rabbit decides he needs to find a different occupation. Rabbit works at
a factory to barely make ends meet; however, the amount he makes is abysmal compared to what he
needs. Rabbit has a passion for music, specifically rap. However, this is a challenge because at the
time the rap genre was predominantly occupied by African–Americans. Despite this, Rabbit
continues on in his pursuit of making a name for himself in the rap industry. He enters rap battle
competitions in hopes of getting noticed. He runs into a group of local amateur rappers known as
"Leadaz of tha Free World". The leader of this group is named Papa Doc and he is portrayed to be
Rabbits greatest adversary. Rabbit and Papa Doc both make it to the final round of the rap battle
competition and that's when the pivotal scene

Rap Music Influence
In experiments on over 500 college students, who often work cheaper than guinea pigs and have less
complicated musical tastes, subjects were found to experience a increase in aggressive thoughts
after listening to songs with violent lyrics, (Morrison, 1). Based on this information people can
conclude that since rap lyrics are violent often, it is the main cause for aggressive thoughts caused
from hip hop. Rap music causes lots of violence every year and it is only used for entertainment
purposes. Rap has no value for learning anything; it is just a hostile form of music most times. Rap
music can influence teens because it can encourage violent behavior, and it can make kids start
using drugs, also it can influence illegal activities. Hip hop and rap lyrics have no educational
worth, (McWhorter, 1). Rap is going downhill and albums are starting to sell less. This is because of
new rappers and people seeing the truth about rap. As the new music groups and better music start
coming in, it just kicks rap out of the picture. Hip hop will soon become nothing unless it can be
more passive and non–aggressive in its lyrics. When people start ... Show more content on

Hip Hop And Its Effect On Society
Many people believe that Hip Hop is detrimental to society. I do believe that a lot of hip–hop culture
revolves around negative things, whether it be objectification of women, violence, drugs, pimping,
the care free lifestyle, now worrying about anyone but yourself, and being materialistic. All of that
does not lead society in a good direction. And if you as a black person consider that to be you
culture, that hip–hop is your culture, and the hip–hop you listen too predominantly promotes things
such as violence rioting, and stealing, then to say that that culture is partially responsible for what is
happening is correct. Before around the time my dad was growing up hip–hop was positive, then
what starting happening is NWA (Niggas With Attitude) came out, and all these other groups that
were just trying to "tell it how it is" or "tell it how it was" in their hood, constantly pushing violence,
violence, and violence. This became much more acceptable. Anything that permeates the culture the
way hip–hop has or the way movies have, they have an effect. Young people have taken on gangster
mentalities like, do whatever you have to do to get by, if you have to sell drugs and murder then do
what you have to do, and if someone disrespects then fight for respect. And all of this that you hear
in music affects not only the black culture but also society as a whole, and if you do not believe that
then I believe are delusional. No one person, no one group of music, no culture is

How War Has Changed Society
War has been around for as long as mankind has existed. War has been around since the beginning
for two reasons; because people either wanted to have a better life or to protect their way of life.
People go to war to gain land, economic gain, government affiliations, and religion. Over the time
that mankind has been around, warfare has changed significantly.
There is not much known about prehistoric and warfare. What is known is that war did not happen
very often. Small hunting and gathering groups that weathered the last ice age had cause on
occasion to attack each other. Such attacks were probably for control of food sources, important raw
materials water, trade routes, or perhaps locations of presumed religious significance. Prehistoric
hunters equipped themselves with weapons to make their living. It was an easy step to turn those
weapons on neighbors. The earliest known burial site that was related to warfare was along the Nile
in Nubia. The skeletons have wounds on their bones that are consistent with warding off blows.
There were also pieces of what is thought to be small flakes of arrowheads buried along with the
bodies. This is significant because war is not a modern thing, it has been around since the beginning
of our species.
There is a little bit more known about neolithic warfare. During this time there was increased
economic incentives for war. Competition and incentive for armed conflict between groups grew
once the agricultural revolution began. The food

Key For Key, Pound For Pound, I 'm The Biggest Dope Dealer
"Key for key, pound for pound, I'm the biggest dope dealer, I serve all over town." Imagine being on
a jury of a drug related case and hearing these rap lyrics played as evidence. Would you immediately
charge the defendant of drug distribution or would you consider his lyrics as a form of artistic
expression? In the court system the disclosure of rap lyrics written by a defendant as evidence is an
ongoing controversy that is becoming increasingly popular and accepted. Jurors face a difficult
decision on the credibility of the lyrics and how to properly interpret them when used as criminal
evidence. Is this really a confession from the defendant? Do the lyrics describe the defendant's
motivations, intentions, or conduct? The debate continues to distinguish the defendant's words as
artistic context or criminal intentions. There are many rap artists who create and use their true life
experiences into lyrical form. There are also rap artists who express what they experience through
the eyes of real criminals, but have never actually lived the life. When the court allows the
admission of rap lyrics as evidence, this allows the prosecutor to use them in two ways. One way is
as substantial evidence where they treat it as an admission of guilt or a confession. This will show
the defendant's knowledge of or intention to commit the crime. Another way is by the prosecutor
wanting to portray an image of the defendant and connect them to the existing evidence based

The Music Of Hip Hop Essay
Since the birth of Hip Hop in the 70s, controversial topics have always been one the forefront of
discussion. Media sources, like The Source, founded in 1988, have been a platform to broadcast the
triumphs and disasters that face the hip hop community has faced. In addition to displaying media,
they have made a platform where they also broadcast some of the letters that their audience wrote
back about their content in a section titled "Letters." With each decade since having its own set of
issues, the 90s was a time where the aftermath of black power movement, crack era, and other major
movements in the black community took place, fostering a variety of hip hop styles that resonated
with many walks of life. Throughout this decade, especially in 1995, there are prominent examples
in The Source of commercialization, regional feuds, controversy, consciousness, and how women
were viewed and valued at this time as well. Hip Hop was introduced to commercialization when
The Sugarhill Gang released Rapper's Delight in 1979. Since then, rap has taken off and been
commercialized for its sound, people, style, and message. "Shortly after its release, the song sold
fifty thousands copies a day, eventually going double platinum, reaching number four on Billboard's
pop singles chart and number forty–six on R&B chart" (Reeves,2008). Their success was

The Foreign Policy Strengths For The Privatized Combat Role

Strengths
The foreign policy strengths for the privatized combat role includes policy flexibility, force agility,
and reduced political barriers. Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the
scope in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and
compared to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of
the policy options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non–combat to
combat. Force agility is defined as an armed force's scalability, physical mobility, and adaptability.

Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their
utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example,
should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private
policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market
economy would force competition between security companies which would encourage the most
efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved
with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces
can be transported and equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract
logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the
Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The
ability to scale up and demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was
demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up
forces more quickly than a military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for
surges before hand. Military companies, assuming they are not at maximum manpower already, can

Rap Music And Its Effects On Society
Who some call the call the godfather of rap, Eazy E, once said, "Who gave it that title, gangsta rap?
It 's reality rap. It 's about what 's really going on." There has been a great injustice done to the form
of expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of
society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be
ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in
today has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to,
but the reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into
society. Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much
criticism about the way they portray their "hoodlum" lifestyle or the way they "encourage" violence
through their music, when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has
forced them into. Listening to rap music and it's positive vibes is in fact beneficial based on
evidence which shows that consumption of rap music not only assists the listener in several ways,
but also aids the rapper. The form of music that we know as rap is heavily influenced by earlier

Military Service At The Civilian Job Market Essay
Over 300,000 depart military service each year and enter the civilian job market (Faurer, Rogers–
Brodersen, & Bailie, 2014). Though the number of departing service members may seem sizeable,
for perspective, the percentage of the United States population currently serving in the military is a
mere 0.4%, or 1.3 million people (Defense Manpower Data Center, 2016). According to Faurer,
Rogers–Brodersen, and Bailie (2014), the downsizing of military operations in both Afghanistan and
Iraq hit the military services hard when congressional lawmakers swiftly started cutting budgets. As
a result, and what Neuberg (2003) described as the fundamentally deterministic nature of cause and
effect, the number of veterans entering the civilian job market increased.
Over the past 70 years, the United States averaged around $500 billion per year in defense spending
as measured in constant Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 dollars, and historically, 20% of that number goes
towards military personnel, while another 10–15% goes towards the associated training costs of
those personnel. Additionally, defense and military build–ups for the Department of Defense (DoD)

The Degradation of Hiphop Essay
When did music stop being an art and become a business? Hiphop used to be about keeping kids off
the streets, used to channel their energy into positive pastimes to keep them from becoming
involved with gangs. It promoted positive and peaceful messages through intelligently written
rhymes. It used to be cool to use a dictionary to write rhymes and rap about science and political
issues. But now that gangster rap has become mainstream, kids don't want to hear anything that
doesn't mention pimpin', hoein', drinkin' forties, or smokin' blunts. The media has fused Hiphop and
gangster rap, but what many people are unaware of is that there is another side to Hiphop – typically
called underground Hiphop. The underground is where Hiphop ... Show more content on

People would get together – typically at block parties or park jams – and show their skills as a
positive pastime. Hiphop was created to stop gang violence, not to promote it like the typical
gangster rapper does today. This is one of the many things that people are unaware of when they are
solely exposed to mainstream commercialized gangster rap. "Hiphop music isn't experimental
anymore," Says Shortkut of The Invisibl Skratch Piklz, "It's violent and materialistic. All the so–
called rap videos on MTV are about holding cash in your hand, wearing Versace, and looking like a
so–called playa. I never knew that as Hiphop. To me, Hiphop was partying and showing your skills,
not calling somebody out and shooting them" ("Evolution"). The founder of Hiphop, Afrika
Bambaataa, was himself a Black Spade Gangster, but he sparked the Hiphop revolution for the good
of the community. When there were Hiphop park jams, there were thugs and gangsters present, but
it was all about having fun and being positive.
So why does the gangster version of Hiphop sell? Because America is in love with sex, drugs, and
violence. Instead of creating a positive message that talks about doing something productive, the
media sells a fantasy. Too often, intelligent rappers are labeled "soft," and anything that is not
gangster is labeled as being "not real." But the gangster image is the fantasy! In an interview with

Sociological Analysis Of Hip Hop And Rap Music

  • 1. Sociological Analysis Of Hip Hop And Rap Music 1.) In this class we have examined the sociological forces that created the social conditions from which Hip–Hop emerged in the Bronx. Drawing upon Chang, as well as videos (Bronx is Burning, Flying Cut Sleeves etc.), discuss the sociological roots of rap. Specifically, what social forces (for example: state policies, global economic trends, technological advancements, community characteristics as well as race, class, gender politics) were present and facilitated the development of Hip–Hop? Hip–Hop is an extensive and a broad conglomerate of various artistic forms that ultimately originated in the South Bronx and then quickly spread throughout the rest of New York City among African–Americans and other African–American youth mainly from the Caribbean and from Jamaica during the 1970's. Over the course of decades and recent years, controversy surrounding Hip–Hop and rap music has been the vanguard of the media. From the over hype of the East and West Coast rivalry to the deaths of Tupac, Biggie, and even Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, it seems that political and broadcasting groups have been injudicious to place essentially the blame on rap and Hip–Hop music for a superficial trend in youth violence. Even though critics are very quick to point out the vehement and intense lyrics of some Hip–Hop artists, they are ultimately missing the point of their message. Similar to other different forms of music, Hip–Hop and rap cannot be understood unless it is studied and analyzed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Role Of Women And Their Participation During The Civil... Women's role has evolved through time and it is clear that women did history, but they are not always portrayed in the history books. That is why it is important to analyze the roles of women and their participation during the Civil War. This was an important event that marked a change the role of women in society. There are narratives and records of how women experienced, and contributed during the Civil War. The women from the North, South, elite and poorer social status, they all had different perspectives, rights, and roles. These women were involved in many aspects of the economy, policy, and social services. There is one in particular, Clara Barton, who did an amazing work during the war and then she was inspired to found the American Red Cross. During the Civil War, women did not wait around for their loves ones to come back from the battlefield. Instead they played many roles that made them important part of the war effort. Many women secretly enlisted in the army – there are records of women cross–dressing in order to be accepted and treated as one of the male soldiers –, some served as spies, smugglers, abolitionists, civil rights advocates, promoter of women's suffrage, and participated in war relief efforts for both the North and the South, while others became nurses and aides. There were four categories for soldering women: Daughters (or Mothers) of the Regiment, Vivandiere or cantiniere, Battlefield nurse ("soldier nurse"), and Field hospital nurse. In paper ... • 3. Essay On BreakinFrom 1984 The film Breakin' from 1984, is a very popular film centered around the dancing culture of hip–hop cinema. It was released as an "Indie Film" in the beginning of the rise of hip–hop. The main character is Kelly, who has a desire to expand her jazz dance career to greater heights. She meets two street dancer, Ozone and Turbo and Kelly developed a passion for dancing along side them. An odd pairing, but one that would drastically advance Kelly's dance skills and ability, and she knew it would be beneficial to her career. Kelly even assists them in dance battles against their rival street dancing group. Kelly becomes the talk of the street dancing world, as she is a new talented addition to Ozone and Turbo's team. Watkins describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also shows more crime that is going on during the time, and it allowed the general audience to relate to hip–hop. While Breakin' is centered around breakdancing, Krush Groove exemplifies the nitty gritty part of hip hop. This is centered around crime, and the determination to be successful in the world of music. Russell Walker, started a music label that primarily focused on rap called Krush Groove. Walker had difficulty keeping the label afloat, even though they often attracted very popular artists. Krush Groove is based on the development of Def Jam Records which is still alive and producing music today. Watkins points out the use of ghettocentric imagination and how the lives of black youth are shown unfairly and unrealistically in this film. Watkins claimed "One of the most persistent themes that gives shape to the ghettocentric imagination is the representation of the urban ghetto as a site of represion and entrapment" (212 Watkins). Through the media, films and music the black community was shown as a negative place full of violence and immoralities. Krush Groove is proof of ghettocentric imagination as Russell failing and struggling with defeat. They show him this way due to where he came from and the fact he invested in hip–hop. Donalson did not look at the films in as negative of a light. He looked more at the meaning of the film rather than the representation of black youth. Donalson said " By the late ... Rap music can be heard playing from car's passing in the streets and the hottest night club scene all across the globe. There is no doubt that Rap music has made a name for itself. With hard baselines and incredible word play put together in what is considered a standard sixteen bar versus has brought fame to artists of all styles. A virtual cash cow in the industry from music sells "it now generates over $10 billion per year and has moved beyond its musical roots, transforming into a dominant and increasingly lucrative lifestyle (Watson, Rapper 's Delight: A Billion–Dollar Industry)." Older rock music was FULL of lyrics about living a life of drugs and sex and violence, where women were nothing but groupies and sex objects to write songs about (Rhino, claim that rap isn 't music)." The fight to recognize the true artistry was the center of many battles that didn't just include the music industry. The government decided that the music coming from the ghettos depicting a life from which the style of music was born from, was too graphic. So they targeted artists making them high priority of law enforcement starting with intervening and shutting down rap shows, and arresting artists for expressing themselves through their music. Rappers found themselves going toe to toe with law enforcement in many parts of the country. These tactics only enhanced the struggle making the realty of not being accepted by cooperate America more personal. However, the government never calculated that the very music that they were trying to stop would be used against them. The fallout of this order would precipitate down to lower echelons of Soviet armed forces in the form of Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) forces taking the leading in combat operations against the Mujahideen (Grau p.110, 1998). With this in mind, the Soviets pushed the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan Command to relieve the siege of Khost by again attacking the Mujahideen strong point at Zhawar (Jalali & Grau p.97, 2000). Around midnight on the 2nd of April, the DRA began artillery and aviation bombardment of the target area. This was followed by the initial commando group's insertion. The commandos landed without opposition, however they missed their landing zone by 15 kilometers and ended up in Pakistan rather than on top of Dawri Gar. The missed insertion led to the ground assault force meeting heavy resistance from Mujahideen defending Dawri Gar Mountain. As a result, the ground advance was fixed in place. • 8. The Difference Between Rap And Hip-Hop Music And Rap Music Rap music is defined as popular music advanced by disc jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s. This kind of music consists of a repeated beat pattern that provides the background for rapid, urban language, accompanied by a vocalist. Hip–Hop music is a genre that originated in the United States by inner–city African Americans in the 1970s, which consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. The Difference between rap and hip–hop music defined by EBONY is that hip–hop is a culture while rapping is one of four elements contained therein–the others being breakdancing, DJing and graffiti. The perception of rap music/hip–hop music by academic scholars is often accurate, in the portrayal that types of rap/hip–hop musicians often exhibit violent, misogynistic, antisocial, and materialistic content and behavior. Writer's Johnnetta B. Cole, Tia Tyree, Michelle Jones, Matthew Oware, Terri Adams, and Douglas Fuller have all discussed the topic of rap music, and the ways in which it exhibits violent, misogynistic, antisocial, and materialistic content and behavior. II. Literature Review The article titled, "What Hip–Hop Has Done to Black Women," written by Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole starts off the piece by explaining how the nursery rhyme, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." • 9. Differences Between Rap And Rap Music I. Introduction Rap music is defined as popular music advanced by disc jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s. This kind of music consists of a repeated beat pattern that provides the background for rapid, urban language, accompanied by a vocalist. Hip–Hop music is a genre that originated in the United States by inner–city African Americans in the 1970s which consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Writer's Johnetta B. Cole, Tia Tyree, Michelle Jones, Matthew Oware, and have all discussed the topic of rap music, and the ways in which it exhibits violent, misogynistic, antisocial, and materialistic content and behavior. II. Literature Review The article titled, "What Hip–Hop Has Done to Black Women," written by Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole starts off the piece by explaining how the nursery rhyme, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me." Remains a defense mechanism for the younger generation against verbal bulling. But Cole counter argues the rhyme saying that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Blacker The Berry ' And '... To many Kendrick Lamar is just another west coast rapper; and to a diehard group of fans he is the king of west coast rap. But on the night of the 2016 Grammy awards, as he limped on stage, chained to his backup dancers, Kendrick suddenly became more than just a rapper. His six minute performance of "The Blacker the Berry" and "Alright" from his hit album To Pimp a Butterfly was captivating, electrifying and so powerful it had him trending on Twitter for days to follow. This reaction was the result of shock and praise as mainstream America was introduced to the unapologetic blackness of Kendrick's art. Broadcasted on a network television station, the awards show presented the perfect platform and opportunity for Kendrick to reach out to beyond his usual fan–base. As all great artists do, Kendrick realized the rarity of the chance he was given and how he could use the moment to do more than just display his talents as a rapper. His performance gloried in its afrocentrism, with its medley of hip–hop, jazz, traditional African costumes and dance. But the message in the lyrics Kendrick rapped, spoke of a uniquely American issue: the high rates of police brutality against black men in the United States. One thing that is true is that rap music has a negative reputation among the mainstream audience because of its heavy references to gang violence, drugs, money, misogyny, sex, etc. Another truth is that rap music has been historically considered a large part of black culture. ... • 11. Gangster Rappers : Gangster Rap Gangster rappers always encourage sex or demeaning women, where some songs are merely produced with the purpose of disgracing women. Subject matters in a majority of gangster rap lyrics usually deal with curious situations, as in the portrayal of women as dirty sex toys with no value other than pleasure through looks and intercourse and even inventing words, such as "bennett," "poontang," and "thots." Furthermore, drugs are another topic widely spoken by gangster rappers, where the songs contents even deeply influences people to try drugs, due to the perception that their favorite performer thinks it's cool. For example, Eminem 's hit song "My Fault" made mushrooms more popular than they had ever been with the public, due to the adulation of how drugs are fun; furthermore, it also engendered new words like "coco" and "purp" into mainstream language use. The last and the most common element of gangster rap is crime. Nearly every gangster rap song mentions a robbery or illegitimate act of vandalism, to which these songs give other people, especially younger adults negative ideas, putting the thoughts of committing any particular in the minds of any gullible person. Gangster rap, furthermore, in of itself, is a similar form of poetry but is in a musical form to entertain others in the forms of a "diss," which ultimately is intended to disgrace an opponent if need be through a "beef" or otherwise known as a hateful argument. (Viles 90)What bothers me is that they censor the music because they are saying these words are portraying bad ideas, but they are just singing about what is all around us and what we see. It is not like saying theses lyrics are anything new. A person or a child is going to hear them regardless of any song with so called profanity in them. The people singing are just telling the truth. I think a child has a better chance of hearing profanity in there own home or school then by hearing it in a song. Most people think of a gangster embellished in large diamonds, sporting baggy clothes, huge cars, all with a general disregard for the welfare of humanity. It wasn't always like this: hip–hop was originally born as a recreational activity, used as an outlet to cope with poverty. The notion of hip– hop has clearly changed in a big way since the advent of hip–hop culture back in the 1970s. Contrary to popular belief, hip–hop is truly a deep–rooted culture that has used rap music as its medium to appeal to its audiences. But time and time again, people have generally disregarded ... Perkins explains how rap's focal point is self–expression through vocal means, through the poetic style that was used by famous rap artists such as Run DMC (10). Little did the hip–hop community know, this emphasis on self–expression would lead to a full–blown controversy. While hip–hop embodies self–expression as a whole, rap took the ideal and took it to a whole new level: a new form of rap music, 'gangsta rap', emerged as a byproduct of the individuality that hip–hop followers pride themselves on. Author Tricia Rose sums up this controversy by saying "a key aspect of much of the criticism that has been leveled at hip–hop is the claim that it glorifies, encourages, and causes violence" (34). Riddled with misogyny and violence, rap has come under fire from numerous critics saying that the music itself is socially inappropriate. Author Rachel Sullivan explains how these opinions and attitudes towards rap music created a public view of hip–hoppers as African American low–lifes, and how rap was blamed for supposedly generating a violent fan base (607). It doesn't help the situation when rappers tend to revel in their 'gangsta' lifestyles. As a response to general criticism, rap artists have used a term called 'keeping it real' to defend their music, saying that rap music refers to the hardships of street life in the Bronx community (Rose 134). By observing the troop's movements and tactics, he discovered their strategies and using reasoning, he scattered the opposing forces and took each portion on separately. His strategy is described best in the following: "When faced with superior numbers, he would divide the enemy army and defeat each section individually by skillfully deploying his reserves at the right time and place. When faced with inferior numbers, he would smash into an opponent's flank, distracting them and damaging morale." War has been around since the beginning for two reasons; because people either wanted to have a better life or to protect their way of life. People go to war to gain land, economic gain, government affiliations, and religion. Over the time that mankind has been around, warfare has changed significantly. There is not much known about prehistoric and warfare. What is known is that war did not happen very often. Small hunting and gathering groups that weathered the last ice age had cause on occasion to attack each other. Such attacks were probably for control of food sources, important raw materials water, trade routes, or perhaps locations of presumed religious significance. Prehistoric hunters equipped themselves with weapons to make their living. It was an easy step to turn those weapons on neighbors. The earliest known burial site that was related to warfare was along the Nile in Nubia. The skeletons have wounds on their bones that are consistent with warding off blows. There were also pieces of what is thought to be small flakes of arrowheads buried along with the bodies. This is significant because war is not a modern thing, it has been around since the beginning of our species. There is a little bit more known about neolithic warfare. It all fell apart when the great rapper King Jay B and his heir to the throne, his son Prince Sanjai East, created the royal King and Prince mixtape Hot Fire. In this mixtape they mentioned the Hillbillies. But this is where the problem arose. They called them by the greatest slur towards Hillbillies, the word Southerners. This was meant to be a light jab, but it was the greatest of insults. The King of Louisiana Fresh, Bubba–Ray Burlaps, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the next hours of the night d0pe and Suzie–ann got to know each other better. But d0pe left out one important fact. He was a rapper. But, even without some key information about each other, they couldn't help but fall in love. As they chatted and flirted, d0pe noticed that M&M had gotten up to the karaoke stage. He was singing and dancing, and was obviously drunk. Everyone was cheering him on. And then it happened. Out of nowhere, M&M began to rap. The crowd gasped and fell silent. • 29. The Negative Impact of Rap Music on Today's Youth The Negative Impact of Rap Music on Today's Youth Today's rap music has changed dramatically since the 1970's. Rap music has become the most popular type of music in the U.S. Rap music can give people entertainment and can also tell a story in someone's life. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, rap music is defined as, "a style of music associated with urban street gangs and characterized by violent, tough talking, often misogynistic lyrics" (Miffin, 2000). Rap music was formed in the mid–1970 among the youth in South Bronx and rap artists like, "Afrika Bambata, Kool Herc, and Grandmaster Flash. Moreover, if their attempts to get a record deal never materialize, they may decide to take it to the next level by becoming a drug dealer or by getting into the drug game in order to live the lavish life style that is so often projected in music videos. What they do not realize is that today's rap stars might be tomorrow's welfare recipient or prison inmate. It has happened to numerous rap artist artists, who were highly regarded at one time (Toms, 2005, p2). However, there might be some children that are inspiring to be like rap artist, then there are children that want to be like them, to have the expensive cars and money, but with out the violence that some rap artists face. At one time, rap music served as a medium to empower youth in a positive way. Media sources, like The Source, founded in 1988, have been a platform to broadcast the triumphs and disasters that face the hip hop community has faced. In addition to displaying media, they have made a platform where they also broadcast some of the letters that their audience wrote back about their content in a section titled "Letters." With each decade since having its own set of issues, the 90s was a time where the aftermath of black power movement, crack era, and other major movements in the black community took place, fostering a variety of hip hop styles that resonated with many walks of life. Throughout this decade, especially in 1995, there are prominent examples in The Source of commercialization, regional feuds, controversy, consciousness, and how women were viewed and valued at this time as well. Hip Hop was introduced to commercialization when The Sugarhill Gang released Rapper's Delight in 1979. Since then, rap has taken off and been commercialized for its sound, people, style, and message. "Shortly after its release, the song sold fifty thousands copies a day, eventually going double platinum, reaching number four on Billboard's pop singles chart and number forty–six on R&B chart" (Reeves,2008). With any form of music, rap included, lyrics are typically scripted which allows the artist complete control of the ideas the lyrics offer. It is a circumstance that provides audiences and media access to those in other locations in the early stage of a local freestyle. Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the scope in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and compared to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non–combat to combat. Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up forces more quickly than a military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. • 35. Rap Music And Its Effects On Society Who some call the call the godfather of rap, Eazy E, once said, "Who gave it that title, gangsta rap? It 's reality rap. It 's about what 's really going on." There has been a great injustice done to the form of expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in today has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to, but the reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into society. Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the way they portray their "hoodlum" lifestyle or the way they "encourage" violence through their music, when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has forced them into. Listening to rap music and it's positive vibes is in fact beneficial based on evidence which shows that consumption of rap music not only assists the listener in several ways, but also aids the rapper. • 38. Military Service At The Civilian Job Market Essay Over 300,000 depart military service each year and enter the civilian job market (Faurer, Rogers– Brodersen, & Bailie, 2014). Though the number of departing service members may seem sizeable, for perspective, the percentage of the United States population currently serving in the military is a mere 0.4%, or 1.3 million people (Defense Manpower Data Center, 2016). According to Faurer, Rogers–Brodersen, and Bailie (2014), the downsizing of military operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq hit the military services hard when congressional lawmakers swiftly started cutting budgets. As a result, and what Neuberg (2003) described as the fundamentally deterministic nature of cause and effect, the number of veterans entering the civilian job market increased. Over the past 70 years, the United States averaged around $500 billion per year in defense spending as measured in constant Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 dollars, and historically, 20% of that number goes towards military personnel, while another 10–15% goes towards the associated training costs of those personnel. Additionally, defense and military build–ups for the Department of Defense (DoD) are historically common in times of unrest; peaking at $648 billion in FY 1952 for the Korean War; $566 billion in FY 1968 for the Vietnam War; $599 billion in FY 1985 during the Cold War; and FY $771 billion in 2008 for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hiphop used to be about keeping kids off the streets, used to channel their energy into positive pastimes to keep them from becoming involved with gangs. It promoted positive and peaceful messages through intelligently written rhymes. It used to be cool to use a dictionary to write rhymes and rap about science and political issues. But now that gangster rap has become mainstream, kids don't want to hear anything that doesn't mention pimpin', hoein', drinkin' forties, or smokin' blunts. "Hiphop music isn't experimental anymore," Says Shortkut of The Invisibl Skratch Piklz, "It's violent and materialistic. All the so– called rap videos on MTV are about holding cash in your hand, wearing Versace, and looking like a so–called playa. I never knew that as Hiphop. The founder of Hiphop, Afrika Bambaataa, was himself a Black Spade Gangster, but he sparked the Hiphop revolution for the good of the community. When there were Hiphop park jams, there were thugs and gangsters present, but it was all about having fun and being positive. So why does the gangster version of Hiphop sell? Because America is in love with sex, drugs, and violence. Instead of creating a positive message that talks about doing something productive, the media sells a fantasy. Too often, intelligent rappers are labeled "soft," and anything that is not gangster is labeled as being "not real." But the gangster image is the fantasy! In an interview with DJ Lord Ron, ...
