Robert and Becky

This films was produced by calamity films which
appears to be an independent British production
company which produce both feature films and
television programmes. Pride is their first theatrical
film with the two heads of the company collaborating
after many years of experience in the media industry.
Production Company

Although little information is given, it appears
that this film was funded by several companies
including BBC films as they list it on their website
as a film they helped produce. The BFI also list
this as a films they help fund. This would make
logical sense as this movie is not only British but
considering its historical basis and topic point, it
makes it a key cultural piece which could educate
and allow greater understanding of Britain's past,
which would interest these two companies. They
also feature several logos at the beginning of the
launch trailer for the film. The conglomerate 20th
century fox appears which might of helped with
the funding. Other companies are also listed but
their role is not given, but some funding was
most likely given.
Funded by

IMDB list several companies
which distributed the film in
different countries and on
different mediums. In the UK,
the film was theatrically
released by Pathé, released on
DVD by 20th century fox and
was released on various other
mediums by BBC films.


No budget is estimated or given for this film on any
websites. The box office gross however is given with
the UK gross being $6,331,824.
Box Office gross

Pride was directed by British writer and
director, Matthew Warchus. The film
was released in 2014, staring Bill Nighy,
Imelda Staunton and Dominic West. All
three of the stars are British actors.
Director & Actors

Pride was released to 124 theatres. This reflects the
niche audience of the film, but also limits it’s success
in terms of making a profit. The film being shown in
less cinemas influences the production to generate less
of profit because it will be shown less, and therefore
be unavailable to some people.
Cinema Release

The film was promoted through trailers which were
advertised on social media and YouTube.
Advertising this way is better for independent
studios like this because it is more cost effective; it
would cost a lot less for the company to promote
their film by posting trailers on the internet, as
opposed to paying for TV advertisements.
Promotion
The film was also promoted in newspapers and magazines through the
reviews. These would have influenced others to go watch the films and
would attract audiences. This can be good publicity for the film and can
spread either a good or bad reputation.

Pride falls into the comedy-drama
genre. The drama aspect of the
film comes from the films setting
in the past, as the narrative
revolves around homosexual
protestors attending a Gay Pride
march in 1984. The film presents
historical events as it shows how
Prime Minister Margret Thatcher
responded to the miners strike.
Genre

The box office gross was small, at only $7,523,634.
Although we do not know the budget, the box office
gross is smaller than that of other films. For example,
the box office gross of Guardians of the Galaxy is
$774,176,600. Where Pride is made by an independent
film and targets a niche audience, Guardians of the
Galaxy is made by a major studio and targets a wide
audience. This shows that the film was unsuccessful, in
the point of view of the industry, as it did not make
much as much money as Guardians of the Galaxy.
Success of the Film

This can be good publicity for the film and can spread either a good or bad reputation.
  • 9.  Pride falls into the comedy-drama genre. For example, the box office gross of Guardians of the Galaxy is $774,176,600. Where Pride is made by an independent film and targets a niche audience, Guardians of the Galaxy is made by a major studio and targets a wide audience. This shows that the film was unsuccessful, in the point of view of the industry, as it did not make much as much money as Guardians of the Galaxy. Success of the Film
