S - State Objectives
By the endof the week:
Studentswill describe the traditionsof Christmas,Hanukkah,Eld-ul-Fltr,Diwali,Kwanzaa,LasPosadas,
Three KingsDay,and Chinese NewYear whenaskedwith100% accuracy after watchingvideo. Students
inthe fourthgrade will matchfive outof eightwinterholidaysaroundthe world,discussedinclass,to
where theyare celebratedwhengivenamapaftermakinginformational books.Studentswill type a
paragraph comparingandcontrastingtwoof the eightwinterholidays,onblogger,describingatleast
three aspectsof each holidaywithnotestheyhave preparedfromvideoandflashcards,make aposter,
or make a digital storytellingwiththe same informationprovided.
S - SelectMethods,Media,andMaterials
I will use videofromYoutube requiringacomputerandprojector.The linkwill needtobe testedbefore
class.The secondthingwill be apowerpointIcreatedwhichwill alsorequire acomputerandprojector.
I will have tomake sure the presentationworksinpreparation.The studentswill use sheetsprintedoff
of the internet,pencils,andcoloringutensilseithercoloredpencilsorcrayonsto create informational
books.Theywill create flashcardswithindex cardsandpencils.Those materialswill be gathered
beforehandforeasytransitions.Finally,theywill use computerstotype aparagraph onBlogger,to
create a poster,oruse a cameraor othertoolsforstorytelling.
U - Utilize MediaandMaterials
Mediausedwill be “HolidaysAroundthe World”videocreatedbyLeighMason,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux2QpVYPM1s,to introduce the holidaysandaPowerPoint
createdby me.Coloringsheetswill be printedoff tomake small informationalbooklet.Theywill then
make flashcards cards usinginformationfromhandout.Afterall thisiscompletedtheywill type
paragraph onBlogger,printa poster,or make a video.
R – Require LearnerParticipation
Studentswill watchthe video,the PowerPointpresentation,andtake notes.Theywill putinformation
theylearnedabouteachholidayonthe printedsheetsandcolorthe picture makingabook.Thenthey
will take informationIhave typedandputthe mainideaonone side of an index cardand the holidayon
the other.Theywill thenwrite aparagraph comparingandcontrastingtwoof the holidays.Theywill
submitof all thiswork.Afterhavingtheirparagraphapproved,theywill typetheirparagraphonthe
classroomBloggerpage.
E – Evaluate andRevise
Studentswill be evaluatedbasedonthe informationof theirparagraphs,posters,orvideos.If the
turnedinprojectisnot adequate,theywill be askedtomake anew one usingtheirnotes,booklets,and
index cards.
