1. Day 2
Diets of Common Insects
Analyze Learners-
General Character: This is a second grade classroom with 10 boys and 12 girls. 90% of the
students are Caucasian, while 5% are Asian, and 5% are African American. 2 of the boys in the
class have mild ADHD and one of the girls suffers from a learning disability.
Learning Style- The majority of the students’ learning modality is tactile kinesthetic.
Specific Entry Competencies- Have students discuss their diets and then ask what they think
insects eat.
State Objectives-
Students will identify and describe diets of common insects by first listening to a Podcast about
the diets of a few common insects. Then they will do a QR reading activity where QRs will be
placed around the room with diets of common insects below them. The students will try to
deduce which insect belongs with which diet and record their hypothesis (based on their
appearance and prior knowledge which insect eats what and what is their reasoning?) on their
iPadsand then scan the QR to find the answer. Students will use the links on the QR to compare
their hypothesis with the final answer. Finally, students will utilize the class twitter to tweet
about their hypotheses and retweet their classmates’ hypotheses that are similar to theirs. This
assignment will be finished in a single day with 95-100% accuracy.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials-

Utilize Media and Materials-
Preview Materials- Preview the links associated with each QR and the Podcast
Prepare Materials- Print out QR sheets and place them around the room and have iPads charged.
Require Learner Participation- Each student will participate in visiting each QR page and writing a
hypothesis for each. Students will then use twitter to share their hypotheses with me and the class.
Evaluate and Revise-Students will be evaluated on their hypotheses, as well as, their comparison of
their hypothesis and the actual findings.
