• Editing is matched to the music. This makes the audience
focus on each individual shot as they change quite often.
• As the music gets quicker and more upbeat toward the end, the
editing is very fast pace, which also represents the lifestyle of
the people in the film; crazy, irrational, fast.
• There is off screen dialogue coming from the main character of
the film. He addresses the audience, making them feel involved.
• There are a few interesting shots that may catch the audiences
eye, such as a quick pan down a building, a close up shot of
money and a slow motion shot of some characters who are very
drunk. These are likely to appeal to the audience.
• Sometimes the music stops or quietens for a clip of a
conversation that will be very comical, so that it stands out and
makes the audience laugh.
• With the music being a modern, popular, catchy track, this
means the audience will more likely take an interest in watching
the trailer and therefore wanting to watch the movie.

3. Inception
• Thriller / drama
• The music is very intense and fast which matches the
genre and what happens in the film well.
• Some of the off screen dialogue is very powerful, such
as when we hear ‘wake me up! Wake me up!’ screamed
from a character, it gives the film a sense of danger and
mystery that will intrigue the audience to want to see
more.
• There is a voice over at the start however it is from the
main character in the film. What he is saying gives an
idea about what the film is about.
• The first beat of music is very eerie and sudden which
goes well with the first shot being a short lasting shot.
The trailer teases the audience a lot by giving out
enough information for it to be interesting but not enough
so that they want to see the film.
• The trailer shows off some of the special effects used,
such as the buildings lifting into the air and exploding
fruit and veg.
• The on screen text matches with the theme of the film,
with the buildings in the background and the text tilting.

4. Goodfellas
• Crime / gangster
• There are memorable shots in the trailer that will stick in
the audience’s mind and also show off the directors style.
For example, a shot of the main character at the beginning
which freezes and zooms into him, fast panning from
character to character, a close up of someone’s eyes, and
interesting zooms.
• The three extreme close up shots of different parts of a
gun are fast edited and stand out to other shots, catching
the audience’s attention.
• The voice over is from the main character, explaining to
the audience what the film is about. This is good because
you straight away know what genre the film is and if you
would enjoy it, and the trailer targets people who like crime
/ gangster films.
• The music changes a few times to fit the mood of the
shots being shown, which also fits in with the time that the
film is set in.
• We are also introduced to each actor and their character,
which promotes the actors and also gives the audience an
insight into the film.
