2. Proverbs 25:26
Like a muddied
spring or a
polluted well is a
righteous men
when gives way
to the wicked
3. The ethical challenge – How to lead with
Unyielding Integrity
“Even while these people were
worshipping the Lord, they were serving
their idols.”
2 Kings 17:41
“Worshipping the Lord – serving idols?” It doesn’t mix. The Water is muddy,
the well is polluted
4. Why are ethics important?
Ethics is the discipline to do the “right thing.”
It is a framework that is covered with sound moral
principles and decisions.
It is a moral grid through which our decisions in life
are made – both in our personal lives and in our
organizations.
5. The power of influence is so strong that
leaders need to be ruthless about
rooting our dishonesty and deception in
the way the organization deals with its
customers, clients, regulators,
suppliers, employees, and vendors.
Leaders who tolerate anything less will
pay a heavy price, because employees
tend to ascend or tumble to the level of
their leaders.
7. The Pain – The Damage – The Lack of Trust
The damage this does to trust is huge and often
takes years (if it’s even possible) to build back.
The “Broken Glass” can’t be repaired
to look flawless.
8. CHARACTERIS CONTAGIOUS!
Unethical behaviour can be contagious.
If a leader has questionable ethics, those who are on
his team will either develop similar ethical standards or
leave the organization because they are not
comfortable with the “stress” of doing things his way.
Bad examples lead to bad behaviour
throughout the organization.
Bad company ruins good morals.
1 Cor. 15:33!
9. What are the Uncompromising Standards?
It’s impossible not to compromise some; it’s too
complicated today?
The Creator of you, me and the whole world
will help us understand “right” standards to
live by. He can help us understand how we
ought to operate our organization, how we
should treat people, and what decisions
cross the line of compromise.
10. Leadership occurs when one or more
persons engage with others in such a
way that leaders and followers raise one
another to higher levels of motivation
and morality.
11. Ethical Codes
Ethical leaders put their followers needs before their
own. Unethical leaders do not.
Ethical leaders exemplify private virtues such as
courage and temperance. Unethical leaders do not.
Ethical leaders exercise leadership in the interest of
the common good. Unethical leaders do not.
12. God is Loving
Therefore I need to be a loving person in all my
relationships. The person who desires to be like
Christ focuses on the needs of the other person
without concerns for his or her own prerogatives or
rights. Loving people within your organizations
means being sensitive on their needs, doing more
than the law requires, and going the “extra mile.”
13. God is Just
Therefore I need to be just and fair in the way I treat
people. When we work with people, there will always
be times when we need to ask ourselves, “Is this
right, is this fair, am I being biased in my decision?”
14. God is Fair
Therefore I need to reflect His justice.
15. God is Holy
Therefore I need to understand that there are right
and wrong ways of doing things. Holy means
separate, doing things the right way, obeying the
rules.
16. The World Needs Men
Who cannot be bought,
Whose word is their bond,
Who put character above wealth
Who possess opinions and will,
Who are larger than their vocations,
Who do not hesitate to take chances,
Who will not lose their individuality in a crowd,
Who will be as honest in small things as in great
things, Who will make no compromise with wrong,
Whose ambitions are not confined to their own
selfish
desires.
17. The World Needs Men
Who will not say they do it “because everybody else
does it.” Who are true to their friends through good report and
evil report, in adversity as well as prosperity.
Who do not believe shrewdness, cunning, and
hardheadedness are the best qualities for
winning success.
Who are not ashamed or afraid to stand for the truth
when it is unpopular.
Who say “no” with emphasis, although the rest of the
world is saying “yes.”
