 FLOOR MASTER KEY
 MASTER KEY
 GRAND MASTER KEY
INDIVIDUAL ROOM KEY
 Key have room no.
 Key board-not visible to guests
 key theft to be controlled
 Electronic key card have replaced metal keys
 computerized system controls the key card
 new code assigned to new guest
 master key codes changed at regular intervals
 Locks should be replaced easily
FLOOR MASTER KEY
 open all rooms in the hotel
 Carried by assistant housekeeper , maintenance
staff
MASTER KEY
 Open all rooms on a floor/maids section
 Attached around maids waist
 Should never be lent to anyone
 Handed back to control desk on going off duty
GRAND MASTER KEY
 Opens all locks, double locks, latches
 In case of emergency ,illness , death
 When access is prevented
 Used when guest leaves keys inside & double lock
from outside
 Used when guest leaves without paying bill and
takes keys with him
 Is held by security officer , general manager , duty
manager, sometimes by housekeeper
LOST PROPERTY
 Baggage, purse, hand bag , mobile , document ,
dress , article ,
 Details on lost & found slip, lost& found register,
 Article is labeled
 Procedure
 After 6 months given to finder or auctioned
FIRE
 Damage guest, staff, property , causes major loss to hotels
,time is lost in making up
 Prevent , control , escape
o Causes-
o smoking on bed , or in stores near polishes or flammable
items,
o electric bulbs which gives heat
o faulty electric equipments ,sockets, power plugs, short
circuit
o in kitchen due to oil ,gases, electric machines
o Fire certificate has to be obtained
o staff from all departments should be given training to handle
fire , fire drills ,mock fire fighting at regular intervals

all linen furnishings should be flame resistant, non toxic

 Attack fire if no personal risk
 Close windows,doors to cut off air
 Switch off electricity
 Empty the area,
 Do not use lifts
 Operator will call fire station

 staff should never accept liability of accident or
he will not get insurance claim

 Report surfaces & articles needing repair,
maintenance

 Non slip mats on wet floors

 Emergency call 1098 /ambulance rush to hospital

touch glasses, tablets, bed sheets, leave for
evidence
remove body at night when area is less crowded
 First aid box – dressing, bandages,cotton wool,
thermometer,sterlised dressing, pen torch, scissors,
antiseptic /dis infectants, pain killers,

  • 3. HALL PORTERS ,BELL BOYS ENTERANCE HALL / LOBBY - CROWD TAKE ADVANTAGE TO ENTER STAFF ENTERANCE CHECK ALL TIME OUTSIDE DOORS CLOSE AT NIGHT GROUND FLOOR WINDOWS GRILL
  • 4. ROOM MAID DUTIES SHOULD NOT GIVE INFORMATION/KEYS /OPEN DOOR FOR ANY PERSON CHECK WITH HOUSEKEEPER,REPORT SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOURE MAID SHOULD LOCK ALL DOORS DO NOT LEAVE KEYS IN LOCK

INDIVIDUAL ROOM KEY  Key have room no.  Key board-not visible to guests  key theft to be controlled  Electronic key card have replaced metal keys  computerized system controls the key card  new code assigned to new guest  master key codes changed at regular intervals  Locks should be replaced easily
  • 7. FLOOR MASTER KEY  open all rooms in the hotel  Carried by assistant housekeeper , maintenance staff MASTER KEY  Open all rooms on a floor/maids section  Attached around maids waist  Should never be lent to anyone  Handed back to control desk on going off duty

GRAND MASTER KEY  Opens all locks, double locks, latches  In case of emergency ,illness , death  When access is prevented  Used when guest leaves keys inside & double lock from outside  Used when guest leaves without paying bill and takes keys with him  Is held by security officer , general manager , duty manager, sometimes by housekeeper
  • 9. LOST PROPERTY  Baggage, purse, hand bag , mobile , document , dress , article ,  Details on lost & found slip, lost& found register,  Article is labeled  Procedure  After 6 months given to finder or auctioned

FIRE  Damage guest, staff, property , causes major loss to hotels ,time is lost in making up  Prevent , control , escape o Causes- o smoking on bed , or in stores near polishes or flammable items, o electric bulbs which gives heat o faulty electric equipments ,sockets, power plugs, short circuit o in kitchen due to oil ,gases, electric machines o Fire certificate has to be obtained o staff from all departments should be given training to handle fire , fire drills ,mock fire fighting at regular intervals

FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENTS  water  Sand  Soda acid  Powder  Foam  BCF(halon)  CO2  Fire blanket  On small fire, on wood, plastic ,paper fabric,cloth articles  on electric fire, oil spills  Red- wood, paper, fabrics  Blue-all, flammable liquids & gases  Cream-liquids, oils, fats  Green- electric & liquids  Black-electric & liquids  On person to cut air/oxygen

FIRE  All fire escape routes clear  Emergency lighting  Signs of fire exits , fire escape routes  fire alarms, smoke detectors, heat detectors connected to water sprinklers all linen furnishings should be flame resistant, non toxic  In case of fire  Operate nearest alarm  Attack fire if no personal risk  Close windows,doors to cut off air  Switch off electricity  Empty the area,  Do not use lifts  Operator will call fire station

SAFETY HAZARDS & CAUSES OF INJURY worn carpets,frayed edges Uneven floor, missing tiles Slippery floors,water , highly polished Wire or lamps, equipments, Poor lighting No hand rails in bathroom  Razor blades, cut glasses  Opening of tins  Falling objects  Poorly stacked on shelves  Knife too sharp falls Cuts & abrasion Burns, scalds Lifting injury Care less lighting of gas equipment Smokers,heaters,lamps,hot water bottles, Overloading of meter Too hot water from showers Touching hot surface Attempt to lift heavy article Lifting in correctly Electric shock Touch bare live sire Touch with wet hands Not properly earthed
  • 18.  All accidents reported, a form filled, report is made legal requirement to claim compensation  Accident book states person injured, name address department, age occupation, date & time of accident, place of accident, injury sustained, cause ,description , treatment given ,name of witness  Signed by supervisor, injured person  staff should never accept liability of accident or he will not get insurance claim accidents

PREVENT ACCIDENT  Use correct working method  Store things at right place  Floors should not be wet, oily , over polished  Wear suitable shoes , gloves, clothes , on work  Need for warning signs  Report surfaces & articles needing repair, maintenance  Lights in stairs & dark areas  Hand grips on baths  Non slip mats on wet floors

FIRST AID  First aid equipments, facility, nurse/ trained staff, methods  Prevent panic, gossip,  Illness call doctor  Emergency call 1098 /ambulance rush to hospital  death seal the room,turn off a/c, heating, don t touch glasses, tablets, bed sheets, leave for evidence remove body at night when area is less crowded  First aid box – dressing, bandages,cotton wool, thermometer,sterlised dressing, pen torch, scissors, antiseptic /dis infectants, pain killers,
  • 22. shock Mental / physical pain cold shiver Lay flat,keep warm by blanket Heart attack Acute chest pain,breathless, Sit forward on chair, take to hospital stroke High blood pressure,loss of conciousness Call doctor diabetes Prespire, gets nervous,carry medicines Give food/ tablets/ injection of insulin asthama Difficulty in breathing Tablet / puff given poisoning Swallow/ inhale/inject poisonous substance Vomit by warm water & salt,if unconscious call doctor/ ambulance Cuts & abrasion Risk of infection Clean with warm water antiseptic, dressing bleeding heavily apply pressure, Electric shock May result in burn,shock even death Switch off current, artificial respiration,suitable treatment

ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION : MOUTH TO MOUTH KISS/KISS OF LIFE HOLGER- NIELSON METHOD Nose bleeding Due to blow/ fall Soft part pinched,turn head, put cotton Fracture& sprain Fall, collision , pain swelling , bleeding Sprain – crepe bandage, pain / swelling do not move part ,take to hospital Eye iritation Burning / swelling of eyes Eye drops/consult doctor
