Participation Of A Democratic System Of Governance
Participation is more of how the youths conduct themselves during election in helping them make
informed decisions. Participation requires that the youth be at the Centre of decision–making
processes. This is critical because in a democratic system of governance, "rule by the people is the
underlying and founding principle of democracy". Engagement is about making them become
agents of change, helping them ascend to decision making institutions.
Opportunities for youth to participate in political processes depend largely on the political and
cultural context. A democratic environment can be more favorable to participation in general. For
the most part, promoting youth participation needs to be geared towards achieving levels relative to
those of the rest of the population.
The focus on youth, in terms of their engagement in the political arena, is a relatively new priority
but extremely timely, particularly in light of recent events and democratic transitions.
Objectives
To train the youth to actively participate in elective position and governance
To increase the number of youths registering as political party members
To promote youth–friendly community–based development planning exercises in a participative and
inclusive manner (youth advisory boards)
To encourage the youths be agent of change in good governance and accountability
Scope of the Problem
Decreasing levels of youth participation in elections and shrinking membership in political parties
and traditional

Why Do Youth Sports Become Too Intense
What is the most successful and consistent youth sports organization? Pop Warner is the largest,
oldest, and most intense youth football, dance, and cheer organization in the United States. A
staggering 36 million kids join youth sport organizations annually. Out of those millions and
millions of athletes, females make–up 52%; with a strong chance of those young ladies may develop
a dreadful disease known as, osteoporosis. Parents are calling for the "De–organizing" of youth
sports. Even though, you have some parents, that who will go out and spend literally hundreds and
thousands of their own hard own money for their organization. Eventually, the constant growth of
intensity will cause the children to seldomly lose the love of the game. Are youth sports are
becoming way too intense? Yes, youth sports organizations are causing osteoporosis in female
bones, causes children to apply there all and get nothing in return, and the ... Show more content on

My research proves that these youth sports organizations are so becoming a bit too intense. Children
should not be allowed to participate in the common youth sports we know today, until the age of 13.
Seeing that, I know myself and I know if that was me, that child that was being held out of sports
until I'm a teenager, my heart would be torn into pieces. "Regular" youth sports organizations
consist of a few teams, probably parents with no real coaching experience as the head coach, and
children not having any fun. The real joy of youth sports comes from playing alongside with your
friends, not from bias and critical parents. That's why the call for the "De–organization" of youth
sport are on a raise, athletic activities should resemble entertaining pick–up games. Also, children
would be provided a safe playing environment, but would be allowed to manage their own games
and, as a result, begin to develop those personal skills organization, conflict resolution, leadership,

Juvenile Intervention Program Analysis
Program Description
The ultimate goal of the MODEL Program is to reduce the health–risk behavior and achievement
gap of youth to develop positive future leaders (Collins, 2002). MODEL does this by incorporating a
comprehensive mentoring program, which serves selective youth participants chosen from at–risk
middle and high schools that want to be a greater influence in their communities. Some participants
will be from a juvenile or other intervention program. The participants' age varies between twelve to
twenty–five years old. The age of eighteen to twenty–five is considered emerging adulthood, the
time in between adolescence and adulthood, which in most cases today, is considered as "prolonged
adolescence" (Arnett, 2000). For attending students, there will be ongoing advisement and courses,
along with summer and winter sessions of real life venture projects. These projects include local
community services at family resource centers, recreation centers, churches, clinics/hospitals, and
participation in juvenile program focus groups that discuss consequences ... Show more content on

Students may be involved in projects that include vocational education programs through outside
sources, such as the California Institute of Arts and Technology and local community colleges.
Vocational programs will help youth achieve certifications in technical skills that apply to a wide
rage of job opportunities. Experienced participants may eventually be chosen for an opportunity to
be a part of a disaster relief program, helping to aid in anything involving medical, technical,
construction, community outreach, and education. They may get certified and trained through
FEMA to possibly travel to cities across the country to aid in relief of natural disasters, such as
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, LA, for example. They may even receive opportunities for
internships in business intelligence and analytics in varying fields of

It is not our goal to "trade" members neither with other churches nor to increase our membership by
reaching disgruntled members of other churches. Our vision is to reach young people who may not
have a "church" background, teach and train them, equip them, and qualify them to go out and win
souls. We believe that by doing this, we will build a strong army who can take our community, state,
and the world for Christ. We want to reach young people ages 10–18 in our community. According
to Warren, "If you want to build a healthy, strong, and growing church you must spend time laying a
solid foundation."
Values
Our values are Righteous living, as exemplified by a lifestyle congruent with biblical and moral
guidelines, spiritual enrichment, as exemplified through our School of Ministry, fortifying the
family, as exemplified by marriage, single, and youth ministries, economic support, as exemplified
by our contributions through tithe, offerings, and time, and alliance of believers, as exemplified
through prayer, worship, and servitude.
Within these values, there is the element of youth ministries. Several key verses are the basis of this
plan. Ecclesiastes 12:1 says that children that are

diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou

Several years ago God moved upon the heart and mind of Bishop T.T. Scott, prelate of the Northern

He has not failed in his jurisdictional responsibilities in any way. Most importantly, President Lewis
is a lover and promoter of the children, youth, young adults, and youth leaders of Northern
Mississippi. He has created, developed, and fostered a holistic youth ministry, all by the leading of
God's Spirit. Through his leadership, our young people and youth leaders are equipped and prepared
to be assets to their local churches, districts, jurisdiction, their communities, and the world.
President Lewis constantly encourages the youth to "Get Their Learning but Never Forget Their

Lewis' exemplary leadership and he has been called to serve in various capacities. For the past 4
years, he has served as the President for the International Youth Department's Southern Region,
having served as Vice President for the previous 8 years. President Lewis also serves as Co–

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
This past summer, I had the opportunity to attend an amazing leadership camp called Rotary Youth
Leadership Award (RYLA). For the whole week, I completed multiple workshops, while making
new and long–lasting relationships. As my main workshop, I chose the service workshop; we
created three separate service activities for the entire camp. My group was in charge of the self–love
activity, promoting the idea of service while teaching the importance of self–worth and acceptance.
As we sat in silence, I decided to break the awkwardness and introduced myself. After learning each
other's names, we began to brainstorm ideas for our project. I started by sharing the vision I had for
our project. I noticed that after I spoke many of the others felt

The Element 2 : Alternative Secondary School
Element 2: Alternative Secondary School
In–School Youth:
Gerber School and CIRCLE Academy–Urbana are Alternative School programs. The expected
outcome for in–school participants is a high school diploma.
Out–of–School Youth:
Out–of–school youth who have not yet achieved a secondary education certificate are encouraged to
re–enter an alternative secondary school opportunity through community resources (e.g., Urbana
Adult Education, Parkland College). Community resources may also be accessed for young people
to provide additional opportunities to improve academic performance (e.g., The Reading Group,
Sylvan Learning Center), thereby improving their motivation and their possibilities of passing their
GED.
Element 3: Paid and Unpaid Work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Expected outcomes for Paid Work Experiences include improvement in evaluation as documented in
weekly case notes.
All Options participants are placed in temporary subsidized employment as part of their vocational
experience and are supported to transition from subsidized to unsubsidized employment as part of
their transition planning.
Element 4: Occupational Skill Training
The American and Hotel Lodging Association nationally recognized S.T.A.R.T. curriculum is being
offered to young people. This curriculum covers all occupations of the hotel and lodging association
which also incorporates the work ethics desired by employers. The curriculum has a final exam,
which participants must pass to receive the certificate. The skills learned in this curriculum are
transferrable to other careers.
Youth who are entering employment in the food industry receive assistance from Vocational Options
staff to prepare for the Illinois State Food Handler's Certificate.
Certificate programs are offered to both in–school and out–of–school youth.
The transitional goals are a required element of Transition Planning for all in–school youth and are
established in a youth's Individualized Education Plan in meetings. This transitional planning
process establishes whether a youth will be referred for further

Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly
changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I
stepped out of my school's van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the
end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a
CIT and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles
it is safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary
depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people
in a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as
well as consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will
never be asking someone to do something that I wouldn't do myself, and it allows for members to
become involved in the decision making. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rotary Youth Leadership Experience Paper
In July of 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). RYLA is
a summer camp that focuses on transforming students into leaders and creating awareness for
different issues throughout society. The 2015 session included three activities that built my character
and changed me for the better, These activities were the culture walk, breaking of the boards, and
exchange ceremony. For the culture walk, our leader split the room into two halves and had certain
groups of heavily stereotyped people take turns gathering together on one side . They were then
asked questions such as "what do you never want to hear someone say about your group again?" and
were asked to answer out loud. The other half of the room remained quiet until asked to respond.
Some of the responses to the aforementioned question were: "Boys who cry are ... Show more

To start off, all the campers were asked to grab 1x1 piece of thick plywood from the back of the
room. On the board, we were asked to write an activity, thought, or phrase that we no longer wanted
in our life. Our director then turned on loud music, and we were told to jump, dance, and get
energized. Once the energy could be felt buzzing through the room, our counselors began grabbing
chairs and setting them next to each other. One of the counselors set her board between two chairs
and broke it in half with her bare hand. We all watched intently and began cheering as she
succeeded. We followed her example, and by the end of the activity, everyone had broken their
board using their hand or foot. This was such an empowering activity for me. I got to see raw power
extracted from everyone in the room, and used in a positive and uplifting way. I felt the support and
love of every single person around me, which created the most sanguine environment I have ever

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Essay
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a program designed to help high schoolers strengthen
their leadership skills. I know, I know, it sounds lame. I myself used to cringe whenever I heard
"team building exercises." But as cheesy as it sounds, these exercises actually teach you how to
work with others and leave you with memories that will stay with you forever.
The first experience most high schoolers have with the program is during sophomore year at spring
RYLA. It's a nice introduction, you meet kids from all reaches of Long Island.
When I went to spring, I was surprised at how friendly literally everyone was. The other kids, the
group leaders, even the adults.
At RYLA everyone is broken into "family" groups, where you play games and

Essay about The Amazing Growth of Youth Sports
"On your toes," Ole yelled, at all his teammates. Ole is my ten year old son, who has been playing
soccer since he was in first grade. He plays two seasons a year and we are on our tenth season. Ole
has started showing leadership with his teammates this season. Ole's team shows him respect, he is a
very strong player that has always has his teammates backs. No matter how tired he is, he is right
there to help his teammates out. When Ole started playing soccer I would have never dreamed of
him taking this path. Our family was never into sports, this just fell into our laps while raising our
children. Since my eyes have been opened to youth sports, I have seen my son grow with soccer. His
growth is incredible every soccer season, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wiersma and Angela M. Fifer, covers how much parents need to dedicate their time and money into
supporting their children in these sports. This was a study of 55 parents that were interviewed on
what the benefits and downfalls of sports were for them. Some of the downfalls can be expenses,
balancing between fun and competition, injuries, and balancing a home life with the commitment of
sports. Just some of the benefits in this article that were brought up were: life skills that athletes
learn that will prepare them for life, affiliation with their teammates that shows them how working
with people will make you a stronger individual, self–concept, and the many memories that an
athlete gets with their family. Our family can spend a total of 5–10 hours a week (per kid) on
practice and games. Time and money is not the only thing a parent needs to dedicate to their child's
sport. They have to dedicate themselves to the emotional support that their child's team needs. It is
hard to watch my son walk across the field with his head down after a loss. I have had to teach my
son that as long as he gives his team 100% there is no reason for his head to hang. Losing is a part of
the game, just as much as winning is. We have had our seasons where we had no losses and then we
have had our seasons where we have no wins. This is

Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes And Leadership...
A Look at Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes and Leadership Concepts in the Workforce By
Robert Graves For a majority of my life, I've been involved in sports. I can even remember when I
played on my first team, the time my father first enrolled me on my first T–ball league. There are
pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age even younger than when I
played in the T–ball league, shooting it into a Mattel© basketball hoop. Throughout the years, I've
played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA basketball, high school football,
and even a high–status volleyball team during my time in the Marine Corps. I love sports and the
team concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some type of league, or were former
teammates of my own. I've noticed throughout the years, as I look back on my life, that I had always
been some sort of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I held I had always been promoted
faster than my peers, and have always been given great recognition and appraisal. I have always
been told I was a good leader, and people came to me willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to
this day, as a chief in my shop, and as a family friend, people turn to me for life coaching. I see this
trend as well with some of my former teammates, and even some former High School and College
athletes that enlisted in the services. Seeing this trend I began to wonder if there is a correlation

The Leadership Position Of Youth Pastor
There has been a considerable growth in what I now know about what it takes to be in the leadership
position of Youth Pastor. There are several learnings I had from this book: one of them was the
reminder of the insightfulness of youth. As Dean states, "Youth have an acute ability to sniff out
hypocrisy and to name injustice." Through her words on this and through discussion in class I have
realized why it is so important to be genuine through everything you do. Youth tend to not only see
but also imitate behavior they witness. This is the critical time for youth in identifying who they are
and therefore what they witness can be a big part of who they become. Dean address this in the first
chapter: "James W. Fowler has described the adolescent thought process in terms of the couplet, "I
see you seeing me, I construct the me I think you see." It is important to not only provide an
example of who Christ calls us to be, but to allow them to see the example that they may never see
at home.
I really liked how she identified the three major barriers to god bearing youth ministry. I found it
beneficial that she signaled these out so that a person can be aware and ready if they start to fall into
one of these categories. I can already notice how I might fit into these three categories of being a
fixer, controller, or of having the need to be liked. Knowing these before I actually start in ministry
is already helping me in addressing the issue. I can already see how I would be a

For prevention the focus is risk and risk factors, for education it focused on skills and knowledge,

had three common goals such as eliminating or reducing problems, competency in knowledge or
skill, and most importantly maturity. Reaching a very diverse group of youth, grades K–12, it is very
important for them to develop and mature each year in the program. The mission of the program is

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training
of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the
program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith–filled tradition, faith–based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in
my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or
as leader of the "Word Study" program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it
through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more
responsibility and further

The Youth Violence Prevention Special Report presented by the Minneapolis Health Department

From the discussion, three interrelated themes emerged. To reduce youth violence, it requires actions
taken with youth, families, and the greater Minneapolis community. The following memo details
these themes, and suggests ways to reduce youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, to reduce youth violence, it is necessary to make 'wraparound services' available to youth
also available to families. Without supporting families, efforts to curtail youth violence cannot be as
effective.
Theme: The Greater Minneapolis Community Has the Resources to Reduce Youth Violence.
A consistent theme that at–risk youth raise in discussions with community social workers is the
desire to have a job. Minneapolis has done a great deal of work in connecting youth to employers
through program such as 'Step–up' and 'Pathways'. These programs give any adolescence, at risk or
not, a unique opportunity to build purpose and nurture relationships with potential future employers.
These programs help to create positive life trajectories for youth.
The Minneapolis Public Schools' (MPS) has operated a highly successful afterschool program for
years. Over the last 15 years, the funding for the program has declined precipitously. Limited funds
have made it challenging for MPS to keep the program staffed with teachers, relying on an
inconsistent flow of volunteers instead. The afterschool program is an invaluable resource in the
effort to reduce youth violence. Instead of unsupervised and unstructured time, the program keeps
youth focused on completing homework, developing skills, exposes them to mentors, and allows

Health Promotion: Youth Leadership Engagement We often hear the phrase "youth are the future,"
which is undeniably true, as youth will inherit the world from those before them – this is a natural
progression of life. Youth have the capability to look at the world with a fresh set of eyes. They are
in a unique position to challenge social policy and build a future that works towards addressing
some of the world's current issues: famine, poverty, gender equality, racism, infections diseases,
climate change, war and terrorism, population crisis, and other ever–changing economically related

A study, through combined efforts between the Department of Psychology, Université du Québec
and Concordia University's Department of Applied Human Sciences in Montreal, Canada, has
addressed concerns youth have around engaging in leadership roles. Researchers from the study
have found that young people typically have very limited opportunity to develop and exercise their
leadership skills and highlight the importance of engaging in programs where they have a power–
sharing dynamic with adult peers (Blanchet–Cohen & Brunson, 2014). This led to the development
of a program called YouthScape, which was conducted over four years at five sites across Canada.
The YouthScape initiative was operated through youth–led grants and focused on generating
empowerment and community development through youth–led philosophy with adult peer support
(Blanchet–Cohen & Brunson, 2014). The research focused on including youth in decision making,
without adults consulting or providing a limited idea or choice. This had stressed the importance of
gaining true youth insight into matters of concern. While this was effective in gaining youth input, it
was done without context of counseling youth through decisions. One theme that stood out in each
study was the speed at which youth worked through problems; the speed tended to be slower than
their adult peers. However, the research had implications for training

I Attended The Hugh O ' Brian Youth Leadership Seminar
In June of 2015, I attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar – North Florida – at Florida
State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The four days I spent at that seminar were some of the most
defining moments of my adolescent life. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, or HOBY,
provides an opportunity for youth leaders to build their leadership skills in an open and accepting
environment while tackling taboo topics such as climate change, terrorism, pollution, and racial
profiling. The seminar is the reason why I have taken up such a distinct passion for youth leadership
as well as the belief that leadership development in our youth is one of the most important of the
diverse methods to building a brighter future. Therefore, for my service project I helped put together
the 2016 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Florida State University and served on staff to
ensure the same opportunity that I had just a year ago was provided to the new ambassadors. This
2016 HOBY seminar spanned from Wednesday, June 1st, 2016 to Sunday, June 5th, 2016 – well
surpassing the time requirement for this service project.

Youth Sports Help Children Develop Values, And Teach Children
"I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I cannot accept not trying." – Michael Jordan.
As said by Michael Jordan, everyone fails at something. No matter how good you are, you will not
always succeed. Youth sports help children develop values, and teach children resilience. Not only
do they teach children values, but they teach children why it is important to be physically active.
Youth sports teach children how to transfer values into the classroom and become a better student.
However, there should be guidelines in place to support youth development and increase a positive
experience. Finally, we need to make sure our athletes are being coached properly, and effectively.
We need to ensure that our youth are being coached by coaches who provide a positive experience
for them, engage parents, and to emphasize future success in and out of sport.
Youth sports are important for a variety of reason. They provide students with physical,
psychological, academic, and social benefits. Some psychological benefits of sport include gaining
self–esteem from intrinsic motivation, developing social skills, leadership skills, and teamwork.
Another important psychological benefit includes avenues for young people to take initiative,
meaning that they can commit energy to a goal over time. This can transfer over many areas
including school, work, and sport. There are also academic benefits. These benefits include but are
not limited to ties with physical activity and a higher

VISION AND MISSION OF ORGANIZATION
Create opportunities for school dropouts and deprived youth to help them lead productive and
socially useful lives.
On June 11, 2014, PM Modi had said in his first address in the Lok Sabha that only a graduation
certificate is not enough. We need skills. We need to concentrate on skill development. Young
people's participation on the development and employment prospects are essential. Following this
the long term development goal, our objective of the program is to contribute to society for the
improvement of youth economy and the promotion of youth entrepreneurship. In the current
scenario the increase in the youth population is not matched by an increase in job opportunities. The
schooling system is

The National Youth Leadership Forum
Growing up in a predominately African American school district, I would go several days without
ever being reminded of my racial identity. I was considered part of the majority throughout all of
grade school. However, this all changed as I began to stray from my normal crowd and participate in
academic enrichment and pre–medical programs. The very first time that I was reminded that I was
the minority, and therefore inferior to many was when I attended a program called NYLF. The
National Youth Leadership Forum allowed me to spend ten days at a medical forum with high
school students from all over the world. When I arrived, I looked around and realized that out of
about two hundred kids, only about fifteen looked like me. I also noticed that they had all
congregated to the same area and had essentially secluded themselves. Determined not to stay in my
comfort zone and expose myself to new things, I decided to sit at a different table. A few days into
the program, several disappointing things became clear. I began to observe ignorant remarks,
disapproving glares, and belittling attitudes from many of my surrounding peers. Admittedly, it did
make me somewhat upset to know that so many felt that because I was a black girl, I did not deserve
to be at this program. It became evident that many of my opinions, thoughts, and responses to
activities were quickly discounted on most occasions. I wondered if I had made the wrong decision
by branching off from my African American peers.

There often limited opportunities for intervention before the fact (Markowitz, 2011). Because of this
some offenders tend towards homelessness and crimes of survival such as shoplifting and
trespassing, some committing these non–violent crimes as a way of seeking intervention they would
not otherwise have access to (Hinday, 1997). Symptoms of mental illness include; impulsivity and
impaired judgment and can cause already hotheaded youths to act in antisocial ways (Hinday, 1997).
A form of intervention that continually arises in research looking at young offenders is the use of
cognitive behavioural therapy or modification. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is founded on social
learning, and adopts the theory that offenders have learned unsuitable ways of behaving due to their
environment (McGuire, 2003). Many intervention plans include this type of treatment, sometimes
coupled with psychiatric treatments (Jones, Chancey, Lowe & Risler, 2010). Cognitive
behavioural techniques encourage offenders to think through a situation, instead of ensuing their
immediate response. A reaction that can often be impetuous and self–centered attitudes that increase
the likelihood of anti–social behavior (McGuire, 2003). In cognitive behavioural therapy an
offenders learning is conditioned, they are trained to eradicate maladaptive actions (McGuire, 2003).

A New Year Of Youth Group
To be honest, I had nervous expectations coming into a new year of youth group because I had just
gotten out of an unsuccessful summer romance with a fellow sponsor that I volunteer at TIC with
every week. However, my fears were unnecessary; the added expectations of this internship helped
me focus less on the awkwardness of the failed relationship and focus more on my youth ministry
efforts. When I was a freshman sponsor, there was a Dordt senior sponsor who interned under the
church and was paid by the church for her work. I always felt the shame of being under my
processor's shadow of high expectations because I feel like I'm not good enough to have New Life
want to pay me. This may sound bad, but I actually had low expectations for my practicum this
semester. I didn't expect it to be much different from the volunteering that I had already been doing
with New Life for the past two years. I expected the general blanket statements of the goals that all
youth workers expect: being able to grow in my relationships with students in order to help these
teens grow in their relationship with God. If I've learned anything from my experiences, though, I've
learned that you can never really expect anything in youth ministry. The biggest strength that I
brought into the practicum was two years of prior experience with this youth group, which gave me
the advantage of already being familiar with most of the people I worked with. I was given similar
assignments and tasks by Ryan as

Rotary Youth Leadership Program
This summer I attended a summer camp called Rotary Youth Leadership Program. This was a week–
long camp at Guilford College sponsored by Rotary. The camp was so much fun. I learned a lot
about how to lead others and I learned about myself. One thing that I learned is that you can't talk to
everyone the same way, I can't talk to an introvert the same way I talk to an extrovert. Some
introverts like to have one–on–one conversations with the leader and extroverts are usually loud and
are okay with asking questions or for help in front of others. For example, my sister is an introvert
and she is very quiet and shy. If she is in a group and they are asking the members of the group their
opinion, in order for her to talk you would have to call on

Summer Youth Leadership Scholarship Essay
Being a leader is much more than just a position. During my first year in the Summer Youth
Leadership Program (Summer Youth for short), I got a glimpse of what it felt to be a responsible
young adult, amicable colleague, and a good friend. I relished my time at the Summer Youth
Leadership Program. It influenced my life in so many ways: mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Therefore, this past 2017 summer, I decided to reapply and learn more things throughout my
summer. Because I was an alumnus, I knew I was going to receive more responsibility, higher
standards, and new situations than 2016–and I deiced to go through with the program. I told myself
that I would be resilient and persevere through it. Frankly, being a Summer Youth returner

Leadership : The First Youth Program
Leadership is a theme in my life that has been in my focus for almost a decade now. It has
constantly been a developing quality for me, so naturally a lot of factors have affected and are
affecting its formation. There is of course no way to recall everything that played in, but there are
many significant lessons I've learned through a few leadership opportunities that have been major
parts of my life. In 2008, I was attending a church in St. Louis with my family when they hired a
Director of Christian Education (basically, a Lutheran youth leader) to revamp their youth program.
The first youth event I ever attended was a mission trip with this youth leader, Cassie, to Tunica,
Mississippi. The mission trip was great and nothing too significant happened there in regards to
leadership for me, but after we got back it became more significant. I started attending the weekly
youth events after that and one day Cassie said to me after a meeting, "You know, during the
mission trip a couple of weeks ago, I was watching you and I think you are a natural leader, and next
Wednesday, I want you to help me lead the lesson." This is the first time that the concept of
becoming a leader hit me. I hadn't really thought of being a leader before. Over many weeks of
talking about it, Cassie pointed out things about me that I hadn't really thought of before. This is
where I first realized there was a way to describe how I thought (analytically and systematically)
and how that is actually a

The Perception That Our Capacity
The perception that our capacity (as youths) to learn and our capacity to lead are mutually exclusive,
and that to fulfill our potential to serve the country we must surrender our profound potential to
leadership, that we can be the engine that drives innovation and solves complex societal problems
but our capacity for leadership and wisdom is somehow limited is a false and suffocating judgment.
This ideology has destroyed the youths' ability to be present in our nation's leadership. The youths
present a passionate and obscure hunger for success – An unshakable will for prosperity. It is the
responsibility of the society to capture this youthful enthusiasm for leadership before they lose it to
rioting confusion of life – the blot and blur of years. For age brings with it a strangeness of destiny
that stabs the red waste of youthfulness with fear. A leader that spends five years in office and has
no–thing to show for it at the end of the day is strange enough, but the voters who vote for such a
leader once again are touched by the dark miracle of folly. If, in contrast, the voters change their
view – not simply looking out for the best candidate but embracing them outright – then the balance
between the competing political forces that has so long favored the incompetent leader will tilt away
from him. And if this balance tilts away from incompetent leadership, especially in Africa, it would
result in the development of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous society.

Learning how to find and analyze the information one needs to make his or her own decisions
enhances a young person's agency and sense of autonomy. Career planning and management skills,
overall, help young people become more self–determined, enhancing their ability to make decisions,
plan how to achieve goals, and carry out as well as revise their plan. This builds confidence, self–
esteem, and a sense of responsibility.
Engaging Youth with Disabilities
As your organization assists all youth to develop their career development skills, it is essential to
take into consideration and address additional needs of youth with disabilities. Whether their
disabilities are apparent or not, all youth programs serve some youth with disabilities. While the
presence of physical and intellectual disabilities may be obvious to staff, other youth may have
learning disabilities, mental health disabilities, or chronic health conditions that aren't readily visible
but still warrant consideration. Youth with any type of disability may require or benefit from
accommodations or support to participate in youth programs. Youth development and leadership
programs need to be physically and cognitively accessible for youth with disabilities. Ensuring that
programs are cognitively accessible means ensuring that youth with learning and intellectual
disabilities, as well as those with lower literacy skills, can understand what's being communicated
verbally, nonverbally, and

Why Is It Important To Engage Young People In...
Young people bring a new perspective to the concept of leadership. Their age suggests limitations to
what is seen as conventional markers of leadership, however they still have the ability to lead or
influence others within a given context. Freire argues that knowledge gained from 'living experience'
should not be rejected or valued less than 'developed' knowledge. Living experience plays a valid
part in understanding the larger context. Young people may not understand the complexities of the
democratic system and broader contexts, but this does not invalidate their worldview and living
experience of how the decisions made impact them. Moreover, their living experience brings detail
and richness to the decision–making process. However, young people can be easily marginalized in
the decision–making processes, largely due to the lack of legal standing when under the age of
eighteen. Young people who are unable to vote are largely left to other measures such as protests and
petitions (Freire). Empowerment is, therefore, critical to the participation for them to become active
in the context and power relationships they are involved in. Empowered young people hold elected
representatives and other delegates accountable for the decisions they make, and the power they

participation. Once the positive effects of youth participation are acknowledged, negative
stereotypes of young people will be eliminated, helping young Americans climb higher on the ladder

Recreation: Difference Between Social Equity And Equality
Inclusivity is at the root for Recreation, Parks, & Tourism ideals because it provides opportunities
for all people. Whether it is an experience or an event, the recreation movement and important
people, such as Jane Addams, have advocated for the inclusivity for all different kinds of people.
Inclusivity is about recognizing and including people, or groups of people, who might otherwise be
excluded or marginalized. With inclusivity at its core, the recreation field should be concerned with
social equity. There is a difference between equity and equality: in a mathematical sense, equality is
about equal parts identical in size or number, whereas equity is a more flexible measure allowing for
equivalency while not demanding sameness. Social equity and inclusivity go hand in hand. To
recognize a marginalized group means that they are being included in their own way but at the same
level a more common group is recognized. Social equity implies fair access to livelihood, education,
and resources; full participation in the political and cultural life of the community; and self–
determination in meeting fundamental needs. Inclusion and social equity should be core values
given the fact that minorities are now becoming the majority; it's a time to learn and respect other
people's cultures, lifestyles, and ideas. Marginalized groups are the face of social justice issues.
Within recreation, it is imperative to listen and engage with these diverse groups. For example, the

Negative Leadership and Youth Sports Essay
There are leaders in every situation and facet of life, leaders are everywhere around us, both in the
business world and out in the community. Leaders can be Supervisors, Managers, Pastors, Teachers,
or any person in any situation where they are trying to get a group of people to accomplish a specific
goal. As stated by Don Clark "Good leaders are made not born" (Clark 2010), leaders are developed
by experience, training, education, and by watching and learning from other leaders. Our children
are learning how to be leaders everyday. They learn at school from their teachers and after school,
they learn from their friends and parents. One of the most impactful leaders of children in every
community is a youth sports coach. In 2006 it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poor coaching style has a significant impact on how a child views leadership, and impacts how
they develop as a leader. The biggest problem we face in youth sports is an emphasis on winning at
all cost. Success is the only option and failure is unacceptable.
In the words of Ricky Bobby, "If you ain't first your last"(Talladega Nights, 2006), is a very
common theme for most youth sports teams. In 2010 a local Cherry Creek Youth Sports football
team in the 11–year–old division finished the season with a tough loss in the championship game.
This loss was the first loss in 3 years and the first time this team ended the season without a
championship trophy. This loss was tough to swallow, but it was also a time to celebrate the end of a
great streak. It was the time for the coach and parents to rally around the kids and celebrate the
season. Going 10–1 is a great feat, unless you are playing youth sports. Watching the coach verbally
blame the kids and then ignore the players is sadly not uncommon. It was the kid's fault they lost, it
was a complete lack of effort and it was a waste of a season. In the weeks that followed the loss, the
coach contacted several of the players and informed them that they will not be welcomed back to the
team because the coach needed more talented players to compete and to win. Not once did the coach
stop and think about the impact to the kids and the parents that were asked back to the

Annual Catholic Appeal Essay Sample
The Money Team ACA
The Annual Catholic Appeal has done a lot for the community like helping out with the youth. They
do different things like gives schools money to keep the school up and going. They also encourage
leadership for the youth so they will be leaders and so they won't be followers. They are helpful to
the community in many ways. The Annual Catholic Appeal makes a big difference in the
community by encouraging leadership, supporting young people, and providing money for catholic
school students.
It is important for me and the Archdiocese of st. Louis to come together for the annual
Catholic appeal because together we can really make st. Louis a better place for everyone.

Archdiocese do that is by building Catholic schools which we attend. Catholic schools are really

very important for them to have that because they could be doing other things that will harm the

The moment my foot touched the foreign soil all eyes were on me and smiles lit up on faces. Only
seconds later, the sounds of footsteps could be heard as bodies came tumbling towards me,
engulfing me in multiple sets of hugs; it was an unusual feeling. Therefore, I remained rooted to the
ground with my arms tucked tight against my body refusing to return the act of affection. Noticing
my discomfort, the crowd gradually began to disperse. Then through a cheer introduced me to the
rest of the group and vice versa. "Hey, HOBY!" they cheered. To which the other members replied,
"Hey, what?" "This is Amy!" cheered the group. "Hello Amy!" they brightly replied. From there I
was sent off to get to know my future HOBY family. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar

Civic Engagement through Community Problem Solving Essay
Civic Engagement through Community Problem Solving
Abstract
As young people's civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of organizations
are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth to participate. Communities
around the country are taking steps to engage young people through a variety of methods that allow
youth to actually participate in policy development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness
of such community programs on long–term civic engagement is not well documented, however.
This paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community participation
program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Youth Advisory Council. Quantitative and ... Show

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has undertaken a multi–year research project,
gathering longitudinal data from its Youth Advisory Council participants, to determine the long–
term impacts of the program on their civic and political behaviors and attitudes. This paper reports
on preliminary research that, while not conclusive, suggests the program can be an effective tool in
engaging young people. Given this preliminary evidence, and because the broader community can
benefit from a process like the Youth Advisory Council, this paper also provides recommendations
to assist community organizations and agencies in successfully developing and sustaining a similar
youth participation program.
Background
Since the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1972, the numbers of 18–24 year olds who vote in
elections has steadily declined, as shown in the charts below. Young people have always voted in
smaller numbers than their parents and grandparents, due to life cycle changes that provide
motivation, ability, and time for participation as citizens progress through life. Yet today's
significantly lower participation rates for young people are not entirely attributable to life cycle
effects. Instead, they are linked to generational effects, a change in society itself instead of
individuals as their lives progress. This is evident when participation rates of

Youth Leadership And The Rotary Interact Club
Some background about me is that I have been a part of the Rotary Interact Club for 2 years now
and this year I am holding a board position as co–treasurer. Other leadership position I have held
were organizing club projects, including a small program to help a local woman with cancer walk
her dog.
I believe that youth leadership is one of the most important aspects in our society today. Starting
leadership from a young age not only helps develop crucial leadership skills for all future
jobs/careers but it is also very healthy for individuals to involve themselves in leadership.
Developing leadership skills early on in life helps people find their identity, learning to listen to
others and influence others is a great way to build social skills.

Youth Participation in Democratic Governance

  • 1. Participation Of A Democratic System Of Governance Participation is more of how the youths conduct themselves during election in helping them make informed decisions. Participation requires that the youth be at the Centre of decision–making processes. This is critical because in a democratic system of governance, "rule by the people is the underlying and founding principle of democracy". Engagement is about making them become agents of change, helping them ascend to decision making institutions. Opportunities for youth to participate in political processes depend largely on the political and cultural context. A democratic environment can be more favorable to participation in general. For the most part, promoting youth participation needs to be geared towards achieving levels relative to those of the rest of the population. The focus on youth, in terms of their engagement in the political arena, is a relatively new priority but extremely timely, particularly in light of recent events and democratic transitions. Objectives To train the youth to actively participate in elective position and governance To increase the number of youths registering as political party members To promote youth–friendly community–based development planning exercises in a participative and inclusive manner (youth advisory boards) To encourage the youths be agent of change in good governance and accountability Scope of the Problem Decreasing levels of youth participation in elections and shrinking membership in political parties and traditional ... • 3. Why Do Youth Sports Become Too Intense What is the most successful and consistent youth sports organization? Pop Warner is the largest, oldest, and most intense youth football, dance, and cheer organization in the United States. A staggering 36 million kids join youth sport organizations annually. Out of those millions and millions of athletes, females make–up 52%; with a strong chance of those young ladies may develop a dreadful disease known as, osteoporosis. Parents are calling for the "De–organizing" of youth sports. Even though, you have some parents, that who will go out and spend literally hundreds and thousands of their own hard own money for their organization. Eventually, the constant growth of intensity will cause the children to seldomly lose the love of the game. Are youth sports are becoming way too intense? Yes, youth sports organizations are causing osteoporosis in female bones, causes children to apply there all and get nothing in return, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My research proves that these youth sports organizations are so becoming a bit too intense. Children should not be allowed to participate in the common youth sports we know today, until the age of 13. Seeing that, I know myself and I know if that was me, that child that was being held out of sports until I'm a teenager, my heart would be torn into pieces. "Regular" youth sports organizations consist of a few teams, probably parents with no real coaching experience as the head coach, and children not having any fun. The real joy of youth sports comes from playing alongside with your friends, not from bias and critical parents. That's why the call for the "De–organization" of youth sport are on a raise, athletic activities should resemble entertaining pick–up games. Also, children would be provided a safe playing environment, but would be allowed to manage their own games and, as a result, begin to develop those personal skills organization, conflict resolution, leadership, and ... • 5. Juvenile Intervention Program Analysis Program Description The ultimate goal of the MODEL Program is to reduce the health–risk behavior and achievement gap of youth to develop positive future leaders (Collins, 2002). MODEL does this by incorporating a comprehensive mentoring program, which serves selective youth participants chosen from at–risk middle and high schools that want to be a greater influence in their communities. Some participants will be from a juvenile or other intervention program. The participants' age varies between twelve to twenty–five years old. The age of eighteen to twenty–five is considered emerging adulthood, the time in between adolescence and adulthood, which in most cases today, is considered as "prolonged adolescence" (Arnett, 2000). For attending students, there will be ongoing advisement and courses, along with summer and winter sessions of real life venture projects. These projects include local community services at family resource centers, recreation centers, churches, clinics/hospitals, and participation in juvenile program focus groups that discuss consequences ... Deuteronomy 6:6–7 I pray that this missive finds you well and abiding in the endless favor of our all sufficient God! Several years ago God moved upon the heart and mind of Bishop T.T. For the whole week, I completed multiple workshops, while making new and long–lasting relationships. As my main workshop, I chose the service workshop; we created three separate service activities for the entire camp. My group was in charge of the self–love activity, promoting the idea of service while teaching the importance of self–worth and acceptance. As we sat in silence, I decided to break the awkwardness and introduced myself. After learning each other's names, we began to brainstorm ideas for our project. • 16. Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I stepped out of my school's van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a CIT and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles it is safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be asking someone to do something that I wouldn't do myself, and it allows for members to become involved in the decision making. ... • 18. Rotary Youth Leadership Experience Paper In July of 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). RYLA is a summer camp that focuses on transforming students into leaders and creating awareness for different issues throughout society. The 2015 session included three activities that built my character and changed me for the better, These activities were the culture walk, breaking of the boards, and exchange ceremony. For the culture walk, our leader split the room into two halves and had certain groups of heavily stereotyped people take turns gathering together on one side . They were then asked questions such as "what do you never want to hear someone say about your group again?" and were asked to answer out loud. The other half of the room remained quiet until asked to respond. Some of the responses to the aforementioned question were: "Boys who cry are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start off, all the campers were asked to grab 1x1 piece of thick plywood from the back of the room. On the board, we were asked to write an activity, thought, or phrase that we no longer wanted in our life. Our director then turned on loud music, and we were told to jump, dance, and get energized. Once the energy could be felt buzzing through the room, our counselors began grabbing chairs and setting them next to each other. One of the counselors set her board between two chairs and broke it in half with her bare hand. We all watched intently and began cheering as she succeeded. We followed her example, and by the end of the activity, everyone had broken their board using their hand or foot. This was such an empowering activity for me. I got to see raw power extracted from everyone in the room, and used in a positive and uplifting way. I felt the support and love of every single person around me, which created the most sanguine environment I have ever seen or been a part ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Essay Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a program designed to help high schoolers strengthen their leadership skills. I know, I know, it sounds lame. I myself used to cringe whenever I heard "team building exercises." But as cheesy as it sounds, these exercises actually teach you how to work with others and leave you with memories that will stay with you forever. The first experience most high schoolers have with the program is during sophomore year at spring RYLA. It's a nice introduction, you meet kids from all reaches of Long Island. When I went to spring, I was surprised at how friendly literally everyone was. The other kids, the group leaders, even the adults. He plays two seasons a year and we are on our tenth season. Ole has started showing leadership with his teammates this season. Ole's team shows him respect, he is a very strong player that has always has his teammates backs. No matter how tired he is, he is right there to help his teammates out. When Ole started playing soccer I would have never dreamed of him taking this path. Our family was never into sports, this just fell into our laps while raising our children. Fifer, covers how much parents need to dedicate their time and money into supporting their children in these sports. This was a study of 55 parents that were interviewed on what the benefits and downfalls of sports were for them. Some of the downfalls can be expenses, balancing between fun and competition, injuries, and balancing a home life with the commitment of sports. Just some of the benefits in this article that were brought up were: life skills that athletes learn that will prepare them for life, affiliation with their teammates that shows them how working with people will make you a stronger individual, self–concept, and the many memories that an athlete gets with their family. Our family can spend a total of 5–10 hours a week (per kid) on practice and games. Time and money is not the only thing a parent needs to dedicate to their child's sport. They have to dedicate themselves to the emotional support that their child's team needs. It is hard to watch my son walk across the field with his head down after a loss. I have had to teach my son that as long as he gives his team 100% there is no reason for his head to hang. Losing is a part of the game, just as much as winning is. • 24. Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes And Leadership... A Look at Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes and Leadership Concepts in the Workforce By Robert Graves For a majority of my life, I've been involved in sports. I can even remember when I played on my first team, the time my father first enrolled me on my first T–ball league. There are pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age even younger than when I played in the T–ball league, shooting it into a Mattel© basketball hoop. Throughout the years, I've played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA basketball, high school football, and even a high–status volleyball team during my time in the Marine Corps. I love sports and the team concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some type of league, or were former teammates of my own. I've noticed throughout the years, as I look back on my life, that I had always been some sort of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I held I had always been promoted faster than my peers, and have always been given great recognition and appraisal. I have always been told I was a good leader, and people came to me willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to this day, as a chief in my shop, and as a family friend, people turn to me for life coaching. I see this trend as well with some of my former teammates, and even some former High School and College athletes that enlisted in the services. Seeing this trend I began to wonder if there is a correlation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Leadership Position Of Youth Pastor There has been a considerable growth in what I now know about what it takes to be in the leadership position of Youth Pastor. There are several learnings I had from this book: one of them was the reminder of the insightfulness of youth. As Dean states, "Youth have an acute ability to sniff out hypocrisy and to name injustice." Through her words on this and through discussion in class I have realized why it is so important to be genuine through everything you do. Youth tend to not only see but also imitate behavior they witness. This is the critical time for youth in identifying who they are and therefore what they witness can be a big part of who they become. Dean address this in the first chapter: "James W. Fowler has described the adolescent thought process in terms of the couplet, "I see you seeing me, I construct the me I think you see." It is important to not only provide an example of who Christ calls us to be, but to allow them to see the example that they may never see at home. I really liked how she identified the three major barriers to god bearing youth ministry. I found it beneficial that she signaled these out so that a person can be aware and ready if they start to fall into one of these categories. I can already notice how I might fit into these three categories of being a fixer, controller, or of having the need to be liked. Knowing these before I actually start in ministry is already helping me in addressing the issue. I can already see how I would be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This programs main focus is youth development, prevention, and education. For prevention the focus is risk and risk factors, for education it focused on skills and knowledge, and last youth development focused on developmental needs. With these three main focuses they all had three common goals such as eliminating or reducing problems, competency in knowledge or skill, and most importantly maturity. • 30. Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee... Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith–filled tradition, faith–based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as leader of the "Word Study" program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility and further ... My dad was the president of rotary at the time so I pretty much didn't have an option in going. I wasn't too excited about spending my spring break at a leadership camp with weirdos I didn't know. The camp site was up in the mountains of Ojai so we had to leave my house pretty early. My dad had to stop and pick up some kids from my school that were also going. When they got in the car, I was annoyed and tired. Everyone said hi to me and I just looked at them and put my head phones back in and went to sleep. We finally arrive at the camp. My dad's friend Cliff is the leader of camp RYLA and also Moorpark's sheriff. Cliff was a homie and could tell that I wasn't too happy. Therefore, to reduce youth violence, it is necessary to make 'wraparound services' available to youth also available to families. Without supporting families, efforts to curtail youth violence cannot be as effective. Theme: The Greater Minneapolis Community Has the Resources to Reduce Youth Violence. A consistent theme that at–risk youth raise in discussions with community social workers is the desire to have a job. Minneapolis has done a great deal of work in connecting youth to employers through program such as 'Step–up' and 'Pathways'. These programs give any adolescence, at risk or not, a unique opportunity to build purpose and nurture relationships with potential future employers. These programs help to create positive life trajectories for youth. The Minneapolis Public Schools' (MPS) has operated a highly successful afterschool program for years. Over the last 15 years, the funding for the program has declined precipitously. Limited funds have made it challenging for MPS to keep the program staffed with teachers, relying on an inconsistent flow of volunteers instead. The afterschool program is an invaluable resource in the effort to reduce youth violence. Instead of unsupervised and unstructured time, the program keeps youth focused on completing homework, developing skills, exposes them to mentors, and allows parents to rest assured that their children are safe while they are still at ... Youth have the capability to look at the world with a fresh set of eyes. They are in a unique position to challenge social policy and build a future that works towards addressing some of the world's current issues: famine, poverty, gender equality, racism, infections diseases, climate change, war and terrorism, population crisis, and other ever–changing economically related concerns. A study, through combined efforts between the Department of Psychology, Université du Québec and Concordia University's Department of Applied Human Sciences in Montreal, Canada, has addressed concerns youth have around engaging in leadership roles. Researchers from the study have found that young people typically have very limited opportunity to develop and exercise their leadership skills and highlight the importance of engaging in programs where they have a power– sharing dynamic with adult peers (Blanchet–Cohen & Brunson, 2014). This led to the development of a program called YouthScape, which was conducted over four years at five sites across Canada. The YouthScape initiative was operated through youth–led grants and focused on generating empowerment and community development through youth–led philosophy with adult peer support (Blanchet–Cohen & Brunson, 2014). The research focused on including youth in decision making, without adults consulting or providing a limited idea or choice. This had stressed the importance of gaining true youth insight into matters of concern. While this was effective in gaining youth input, it was done without context of counseling youth through decisions. One theme that stood out in each study was the speed at which youth worked through problems; the speed tended to be slower than their adult peers. I Attended The Hugh O ' Brian Youth Leadership Seminar In June of 2015, I attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar – North Florida – at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The four days I spent at that seminar were some of the most defining moments of my adolescent life. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, or HOBY, provides an opportunity for youth leaders to build their leadership skills in an open and accepting environment while tackling taboo topics such as climate change, terrorism, pollution, and racial profiling. The seminar is the reason why I have taken up such a distinct passion for youth leadership as well as the belief that leadership development in our youth is one of the most important of the diverse methods to building a brighter future. Therefore, for my service project I helped put together the 2016 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Florida State University and served on staff to ensure the same opportunity that I had just a year ago was provided to the new ambassadors. • 46. Youth Sports Help Children Develop Values, And Teach Children "I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I cannot accept not trying." – Michael Jordan. As said by Michael Jordan, everyone fails at something. No matter how good you are, you will not always succeed. Youth sports help children develop values, and teach children resilience. Not only do they teach children values, but they teach children why it is important to be physically active. Youth sports teach children how to transfer values into the classroom and become a better student. However, there should be guidelines in place to support youth development and increase a positive experience. Finally, we need to make sure our athletes are being coached properly, and effectively. We need to ensure that our youth are being coached by coaches who provide a positive experience for them, engage parents, and to emphasize future success in and out of sport. Youth sports are important for a variety of reason. They provide students with physical, psychological, academic, and social benefits. Some psychological benefits of sport include gaining self–esteem from intrinsic motivation, developing social skills, leadership skills, and teamwork. Another important psychological benefit includes avenues for young people to take initiative, meaning that they can commit energy to a goal over time. This can transfer over many areas including school, work, and sport. There are also academic benefits. These benefits include but are not limited to ties with physical activity and a higher ... I was considered part of the majority throughout all of grade school. However, this all changed as I began to stray from my normal crowd and participate in academic enrichment and pre–medical programs. The very first time that I was reminded that I was the minority, and therefore inferior to many was when I attended a program called NYLF. The National Youth Leadership Forum allowed me to spend ten days at a medical forum with high school students from all over the world. When I arrived, I looked around and realized that out of about two hundred kids, only about fifteen looked like me. I also noticed that they had all congregated to the same area and had essentially secluded themselves. Determined not to stay in my comfort zone and expose myself to new things, I decided to sit at a different table. A few days into the program, several disappointing things became clear. I began to observe ignorant remarks, disapproving glares, and belittling attitudes from many of my surrounding peers. Admittedly, it did make me somewhat upset to know that so many felt that because I was a black girl, I did not deserve to be at this program. It became evident that many of my opinions, thoughts, and responses to activities were quickly discounted on most occasions. I wondered if I had made the wrong decision by branching off from my African American peers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this some offenders tend towards homelessness and crimes of survival such as shoplifting and trespassing, some committing these non–violent crimes as a way of seeking intervention they would not otherwise have access to (Hinday, 1997). Symptoms of mental illness include; impulsivity and impaired judgment and can cause already hotheaded youths to act in antisocial ways (Hinday, 1997). A form of intervention that continually arises in research looking at young offenders is the use of cognitive behavioural therapy or modification. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is founded on social learning, and adopts the theory that offenders have learned unsuitable ways of behaving due to their environment (McGuire, 2003). Many intervention plans include this type of treatment, sometimes coupled with psychiatric treatments (Jones, Chancey, Lowe & Risler, 2010). A New Year Of Youth Group To be honest, I had nervous expectations coming into a new year of youth group because I had just gotten out of an unsuccessful summer romance with a fellow sponsor that I volunteer at TIC with every week. However, my fears were unnecessary; the added expectations of this internship helped me focus less on the awkwardness of the failed relationship and focus more on my youth ministry efforts. When I was a freshman sponsor, there was a Dordt senior sponsor who interned under the church and was paid by the church for her work. I always felt the shame of being under my processor's shadow of high expectations because I feel like I'm not good enough to have New Life want to pay me. This may sound bad, but I actually had low expectations for my practicum this semester. I didn't expect it to be much different from the volunteering that I had already been doing with New Life for the past two years. I expected the general blanket statements of the goals that all youth workers expect: being able to grow in my relationships with students in order to help these teens grow in their relationship with God. If I've learned anything from my experiences, though, I've learned that you can never really expect anything in youth ministry. The biggest strength that I brought into the practicum was two years of prior experience with this youth group, which gave me the advantage of already being familiar with most of the people I worked with. • 60. Leadership : The First Youth Program Leadership is a theme in my life that has been in my focus for almost a decade now. It has constantly been a developing quality for me, so naturally a lot of factors have affected and are affecting its formation. There is of course no way to recall everything that played in, but there are many significant lessons I've learned through a few leadership opportunities that have been major parts of my life. In 2008, I was attending a church in St. Louis with my family when they hired a Director of Christian Education (basically, a Lutheran youth leader) to revamp their youth program. The first youth event I ever attended was a mission trip with this youth leader, Cassie, to Tunica, Mississippi. The mission trip was great and nothing too significant happened there in regards to leadership for me, but after we got back it became more significant. I started attending the weekly youth events after that and one day Cassie said to me after a meeting, "You know, during the mission trip a couple of weeks ago, I was watching you and I think you are a natural leader, and next Wednesday, I want you to help me lead the lesson." This is the first time that the concept of becoming a leader hit me. I hadn't really thought of being a leader before. Over many weeks of talking about it, Cassie pointed out things about me that I hadn't really thought of before. This is where I first realized there was a way to describe how I thought (analytically and systematically) and how that is actually a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. The Perception That Our Capacity The perception that our capacity (as youths) to learn and our capacity to lead are mutually exclusive, and that to fulfill our potential to serve the country we must surrender our profound potential to leadership, that we can be the engine that drives innovation and solves complex societal problems but our capacity for leadership and wisdom is somehow limited is a false and suffocating judgment. This ideology has destroyed the youths' ability to be present in our nation's leadership. The youths present a passionate and obscure hunger for success – An unshakable will for prosperity. It is the responsibility of the society to capture this youthful enthusiasm for leadership before they lose it to rioting confusion of life – the blot and blur of years. For age brings with it a strangeness of destiny that stabs the red waste of youthfulness with fear. A leader that spends five years in office and has no–thing to show for it at the end of the day is strange enough, but the voters who vote for such a leader once again are touched by the dark miracle of folly. If, in contrast, the voters change their view – not simply looking out for the best candidate but embracing them outright – then the balance between the competing political forces that has so long favored the incompetent leader will tilt away from him. And if this balance tilts away from incompetent leadership, especially in Africa, it would result in the development of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous society. ... • 66. Why Is It Important To Engage Young People In... Young people bring a new perspective to the concept of leadership. Their age suggests limitations to what is seen as conventional markers of leadership, however they still have the ability to lead or influence others within a given context. Freire argues that knowledge gained from 'living experience' should not be rejected or valued less than 'developed' knowledge. Living experience plays a valid part in understanding the larger context. Young people may not understand the complexities of the democratic system and broader contexts, but this does not invalidate their worldview and living experience of how the decisions made impact them. Moreover, their living experience brings detail and richness to the decision–making process. However, young people can be easily marginalized in the decision–making processes, largely due to the lack of legal standing when under the age of eighteen. Young people who are unable to vote are largely left to other measures such as protests and petitions (Freire). Empowerment is, therefore, critical to the participation for them to become active in the context and power relationships they are involved in. • 68. Recreation: Difference Between Social Equity And Equality Inclusivity is at the root for Recreation, Parks, & Tourism ideals because it provides opportunities for all people. Whether it is an experience or an event, the recreation movement and important people, such as Jane Addams, have advocated for the inclusivity for all different kinds of people. Inclusivity is about recognizing and including people, or groups of people, who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized. With inclusivity at its core, the recreation field should be concerned with social equity. There is a difference between equity and equality: in a mathematical sense, equality is about equal parts identical in size or number, whereas equity is a more flexible measure allowing for equivalency while not demanding sameness. Social equity and inclusivity go hand in hand. To recognize a marginalized group means that they are being included in their own way but at the same level a more common group is recognized. Social equity implies fair access to livelihood, education, and resources; full participation in the political and cultural life of the community; and self– determination in meeting fundamental needs. Inclusion and social equity should be core values given the fact that minorities are now becoming the majority; it's a time to learn and respect other people's cultures, lifestyles, and ideas. Marginalized groups are the face of social justice issues. Within recreation, it is imperative to listen and engage with these diverse groups. For example, the Lavender ... Leaders can be Supervisors, Managers, Pastors, Teachers, or any person in any situation where they are trying to get a group of people to accomplish a specific goal. As stated by Don Clark "Good leaders are made not born" (Clark 2010), leaders are developed by experience, training, education, and by watching and learning from other leaders. This poor coaching style has a significant impact on how a child views leadership, and impacts how they develop as a leader. The biggest problem we face in youth sports is an emphasis on winning at all cost. Success is the only option and failure is unacceptable. In the words of Ricky Bobby, "If you ain't first your last"(Talladega Nights, 2006), is a very common theme for most youth sports teams. In 2010 a local Cherry Creek Youth Sports football team in the 11–year–old division finished the season with a tough loss in the championship game. This loss was the first loss in 3 years and the first time this team ended the season without a championship trophy. This loss was tough to swallow, but it was also a time to celebrate the end of a great streak. It was the time for the coach and parents to rally around the kids and celebrate the season. Going 10–1 is a great feat, unless you are playing youth sports. Watching the coach verbally blame the kids and then ignore the players is sadly not uncommon. It was the kid's fault they lost, it was a complete lack of effort and it was a waste of a season. In the weeks that followed the loss, the coach contacted several of the players and informed them that they will not be welcomed back to the team because the coach needed more talented players to compete and to win. • 74. Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminars The moment my foot touched the foreign soil all eyes were on me and smiles lit up on faces. Only seconds later, the sounds of footsteps could be heard as bodies came tumbling towards me, engulfing me in multiple sets of hugs; it was an unusual feeling. Therefore, I remained rooted to the ground with my arms tucked tight against my body refusing to return the act of affection. Noticing my discomfort, the crowd gradually began to disperse. Then through a cheer introduced me to the rest of the group and vice versa. "Hey, HOBY!" they cheered. To which the other members replied, "Hey, what?" "This is Amy!" cheered the group. "Hello Amy!" they brightly replied. From there I was sent off to get to know my future HOBY family. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) was founded in 1958 and since then has made it their mission to inspire and develop a global community of youths and volunteers to a life of service, leadership, and dedication. Seminars are hosted throughout the United States and made available to both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking around there are masses of people wearing an array of colors (from blues, pinks, purples, yellows, and reds) all of whom are hugging. When they are not hugging, they are performing these 'musical–like dance routines.' I, like many who had just arrived, desperately wanted to get back into the car and drive away. It was then that I was given a colored T–shirt; the color of this shirt would dictate my color group for almost the entirety of the weekend. The color group I was assigned to was the yellow group. I was able to hunt down my team in a matter of seconds as it would be difficult to miss the large patch of yellow waving their arms at you. My group and I experienced a rough beginning; difficulties memorizing names and uncomfortable silences. However, through HOBY's team bonding exercises, in only a few hours of knowing each other our group already felt like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Civic Engagement through Community Problem Solving Essay Civic Engagement through Community Problem Solving Abstract As young people's civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of organizations are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth to participate. Communities around the country are taking steps to engage young people through a variety of methods that allow youth to actually participate in policy development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness of such community programs on long–term civic engagement is not well documented, however. This paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community participation program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Youth Advisory Council. Quantitative and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has undertaken a multi–year research project, gathering longitudinal data from its Youth Advisory Council participants, to determine the long– term impacts of the program on their civic and political behaviors and attitudes. This paper reports on preliminary research that, while not conclusive, suggests the program can be an effective tool in engaging young people. Given this preliminary evidence, and because the broader community can benefit from a process like the Youth Advisory Council, this paper also provides recommendations to assist community organizations and agencies in successfully developing and sustaining a similar youth participation program. Background Since the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1972, the numbers of 18–24 year olds who vote in elections has steadily declined, as shown in the charts below. Young people have always voted in smaller numbers than their parents and grandparents, due to life cycle changes that provide motivation, ability, and time for participation as citizens progress through life. Yet today's significantly lower participation rates for young people are not entirely attributable to life cycle effects. Instead, they are linked to generational effects, a change in society itself instead of individuals as their lives progress. This is evident when participation rates of ... • 78. Youth Leadership And The Rotary Interact Club Some background about me is that I have been a part of the Rotary Interact Club for 2 years now and this year I am holding a board position as co–treasurer. Other leadership position I have held were organizing club projects, including a small program to help a local woman with cancer walk her dog. I believe that youth leadership is one of the most important aspects in our society today. Starting leadership from a young age not only helps develop crucial leadership skills for all future jobs/careers but it is also very healthy for individuals to involve themselves in leadership. Developing leadership skills early on in life helps people find their identity, learning to listen to others and influence others is a great way to build social skills. ...
