Youth Violence Memo
Thank you for participating in our recent Special Results Minneapolis roundtable conversation on
youth violence prevention. A roundtable meeting presents a unique opportunity for City staff,
leadership, elected officials, and stakeholders from outside agencies and organizations to engage in
robust discussions.
The Youth Violence Prevention Special Report presented by the Minneapolis Health Department
focused their data driven approach on identifying trends and opportunities to reduce youth violence.
From the discussion, three interrelated themes emerged. To reduce youth violence, it requires actions
taken with youth, families, and the greater Minneapolis community. The following memo details
these themes, and suggests ways to reduce youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, to reduce youth violence, it is necessary to make 'wraparound services' available to youth
also available to families. Without supporting families, efforts to curtail youth violence cannot be as
effective.
Theme: The Greater Minneapolis Community Has the Resources to Reduce Youth Violence.
A consistent theme that at–risk youth raise in discussions with community social workers is the
desire to have a job. Minneapolis has done a great deal of work in connecting youth to employers
through program such as 'Step–up' and 'Pathways'. These programs give any adolescence, at risk or
not, a unique opportunity to build purpose and nurture relationships with potential future employers.
These programs help to create positive life trajectories for youth.
The Minneapolis Public Schools' (MPS) has operated a highly successful afterschool program for
years. Over the last 15 years, the funding for the program has declined precipitously. Limited funds
have made it challenging for MPS to keep the program staffed with teachers, relying on an
inconsistent flow of volunteers instead. The afterschool program is an invaluable resource in the
effort to reduce youth violence. Instead of unsupervised and unstructured time, the program keeps
youth focused on completing homework, developing skills, exposes them to mentors, and allows
parents to rest assured that their children are safe while they are still at

Youth And Youth Subcultures
Adolescence is the physiological developmental period between childhood and adulthood, known to
be a turbulent time of self–exploration and discovery. Hall (1904) described adolescence as a period
of 'storm and stress' associated with mood disruptions, parental conflict and risky behaviours.
Similarly, youth is a socially constructed phase, not defined by age or physical development, but
rather specific progressive phases and transitions. Youth fall between the full dependence of
childhood and independence of adulthood, described as partially dependent individuals that are in a
phase of self–exploration and development of identity (Furlong, 2013). Youth transitions are best
viewed as a process of identity development where young people draw on a range of influences,
experiences and relationships in the formation of their identity (Stokes & Wyn, 2007). Modern
youth transitions have seen an increased emergence of subjectivities in identity construction outside
of inherited characteristics. Perceived more as an ongoing process of integrating influences and
experiences through conscious action and self–reflection (Stokes & Wyn, 2007). Due to the distinct
lifestyles associated with youth there is an important cultural dimension associated with youth
transitions. Formation of different youth subcultures are a reflection of distinct styles, behaviours
and interests adopted by young people (Furlong, 2013). The film Hey Hey, its Esther Blue–burger
(2008) characterizes youth

The Problem Of Homeless Youth
Theoretical Framework
Homeless Youth
11/1/2014
Ken Dix
Homeless youth are a standout amongst the most underestimated gatherings in our general public.
Numerous specialists recognize much more elevated amounts of different issue practices among
these adolescent contrasted with their non–homeless associates. The current study analyzed the
utility of social capital in foreseeing issue practices among homeless youth.
Homelessness is portrayed as circumstances of people or family units without steady, uninterrupted,
proper lodging, or the quick prospect, means and capacity of getting it. It is the aftereffect of
universal or public obstructions, an absence of reasonable and suitable lodging, the
individual/family unit 's money related, mental, cognitive, behavioral or physical difficulties, and/or
bigotry and segregation. A majority of individuals don 't decide to be dispossessed, and the
occurrence is usually negative, unsavory, upsetting and troubling
In the reading of "Toward a needs–based typology of homeless youth. Journal of Adolescent Health"
the schemas was a little different. In the article they look at homeless in youth in four categories.
Homeless youth are now widely recognized and accepted in the literature: situational runaways,
runaways, throwaways, and systems youth (Coward Bucher, C, 2008)
Homelessness depicts the circumstances of an individual or family without steady, lasting, fitting
lodging, or the quick prospect, means and capacity of securing

Youth And Social Construction
The intricate nature of youth means that while some argue it is a universal stage of life, it is seen by
many as a formation of sociocultural elements. Social construction can be defined as something that
has been shaped by the values, interests or practices of a culture or society and this is evident in the
youth demographic through its revolution in recent years. The markings of youth are social in
formulation; highlighting the way in which young people have been influenced by differing trends
and movements. Youth is a transitional phase, its age bracket extending and blurring; transcending
global divides and traditions. Thus, it is the social context that surrounds youth which suggests that
it is not a universal stage of life. Ultimately, the idea of youth when viewed in a historical and
cultural context as well as in relation to other socially influenced concepts such as adulthood, can be
observed as a social construction.
A Post–First World War occurrence, the concept of youth emerged as a historically comprised
debate in response to the social, political and cultural shifts at the time. Youth became a label used to
categorize a particular age group, with education and perceived life progress used to mark the
unfixed period between childhood and adulthood. It has been suggested that there has been
disruption in the general 'life patterns' for young people present around the time of, or born just after
the First World War (White & Wyn, 2008). The statement is helpful

A New Year Of Youth Group
To be honest, I had nervous expectations coming into a new year of youth group because I had just
gotten out of an unsuccessful summer romance with a fellow sponsor that I volunteer at TIC with
every week. However, my fears were unnecessary; the added expectations of this internship helped
me focus less on the awkwardness of the failed relationship and focus more on my youth ministry
efforts. When I was a freshman sponsor, there was a Dordt senior sponsor who interned under the
church and was paid by the church for her work. I always felt the shame of being under my
processor's shadow of high expectations because I feel like I'm not good enough to have New Life
want to pay me. This may sound bad, but I actually had low expectations for my practicum this
semester. I didn't expect it to be much different from the volunteering that I had already been doing
with New Life for the past two years. I expected the general blanket statements of the goals that all
youth workers expect: being able to grow in my relationships with students in order to help these
teens grow in their relationship with God. If I've learned anything from my experiences, though, I've
learned that you can never really expect anything in youth ministry. The biggest strength that I
brought into the practicum was two years of prior experience with this youth group, which gave me
the advantage of already being familiar with most of the people I worked with. I was given similar
assignments and tasks by Ryan as

Youth Unemployment
Digital revolution and its impact on Youth Unemployment
Introduction
In all facets of life young people can be potentially viewed as being particularly vulnerable, and
across the world more and more young people are experiencing a soar in youth unemployment. It is
fair to surmise that the longer young people are not engaging in employment opportunities,
problems in society can and will become more self evident now and into the foreseeable future.
It must be stated from the outset that the internet can offer very exciting possibilities and can enable
greater global connectivity. As users (albeit somewhat reluctantly) we can have tasks undertaken
online virtually anywhere in the world. Not all users or generations are as savvy with ... Show more

The prevalence of young people experiencing ongoing difficulties and barriers to obtaining
employment is a complex issue.
As professional Youth Workers we must not only arm ourselves with up–to–date understanding of
what constitutes unemployment and how the digital landscape and the current and ongoing
engagement an overwhelming amount of young people have with the digital landscape/world. We,
as Youth Workers must also work with young people 's parents/caregivers. We must also explore
advocating and creating links between young people, communities, employers and education
providers, when possible.
Research from across the globe has identified the growing and real concerns that more and more
engagement with digital platforms by employers is playing out with potential young people seeking
employment. Research such as undertaken by the Foundation for Young Australians which plainly
tells us that as a nation, community and most importantly as those who work with young people to
not ignore the real and prevalent

LGBT Youth Obstacles
LGBT Youth Obstacles
There is a tremendous amount of LGBT youth that experience homelessness in the United States,
and forty percent of them identify themselves as LGBT. There are so many issues that cause
homelessness in the LGBT community such as discrimination in religious communities, lack of
support from families and rejection from society. But in a world where these issues are all around
us, how can we solve this? It starts with every individual to just stop and maybe educate themselves
on this unique youth community and the struggles they must face to bring in equality. This education
can start with volunteer work, educational classes, or even support groups. The problem is the
discrimination against the LGBT youth community, so many do not understand what it means to be
in the LGBT individual and the obstacles they must face such as finding a job, going to school and
finding a place to live, etc. Many LGBT have to face discrimination while trying to attend and can
be such a huge obstacle to try to receive an education when you have to go to a hostile work
environment every day. In the article "Like walking through a Hailstorm–discrimination against
LGBT Youth in US Schools" states that "A lack of policies and practices that affirm and support
LGBT youth–and failure to implement protections that do exist –means that LGBT students
nationwide continue to face bullying, exclusion, and discrimination in school, putting them at
physical and phycological risk and

Youth binge drinking
To what extent is youth violence, crimes and anti–social behaviour linked to youths binge drinking.
Binge drinking can be defined as an excessive consumption of alcohol within a short period of time
to get drunk. This essay will focus on how youth violence, crime and anti–social behaviour is linked
to youths binge drinking. It is widely known that the youths in United Kingdom start drinking at an
early stage of their lives. Talbot and Crabbe (n.d.) state that "government statistics suggest that... the
amount of alcohol consumed by younger adolescents aged 11–13 continues to climb." Underage
drinking is linked to binge drinking as youths are not mature and responsible enough to think of the
consequences. BBC News (2003) mentioned that "A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also known that regretful sexual activity is a leverage of youths heavy drinking. An article by
The Christian Institute (2011) expresses the concern of youths engaging in alcohol–fuelled sex. The
article states that "those binge drinking three or more times a week were over five times more likely
than non–binge drinkers to have had sex they regretted following alcohol". It was also suggested
that it is time for ministers should have a stricter attitude towards youths binge drinking. The article
goes on to declare that the government has failed to control the issue of youths misusing alcohol.
Having considered all of the points above, there are arguments about youth violence, crime and
anti–social behaviour not relating to binge drinking. It is common for youths to go through a
rebellious phase. During the stage of rebellion, crimes will be committed due to peer pressure or low
family income. A report by Taylor (2003) claims that street robberies were urged on by the fear of
youths being left out and bullied. This suggests that young people are very affected by how they are
perceived in the eyes of other individuals which instigate them to commit crime. A research by
Jacobson and Kirby (2012) mentions that lack of discipline was evidently the root to youth crimes.
The research also mentions that boredom as

Benefits of Youth Sports
Benefits of Youth Sports"Sports do not build character. They reveal it," said John Wooden,
legendary UCLA basketball coach. Playing sports not only provides physical activity, but also other
positive benefits. This is especially true for children. A well–structured and organized youth
program will provide benefits and positive experiences for young athletes. While children are
having fun participating in sports they are also building character, learning to work as a team, and
playing fairly. Most people think the only benefits of sports are physical. Sports are more than just
developing hand–eye coordination and burning calories, youth sports provide many developmental
benefits, physical benefits, and psychological benefits.

According to the American Heart Association, one in every three children is overweight. Children
who are overweight are more likely to be obese as adults, increasing their risk for diseases and
conditions such as diabetes, heart attack, and high blood pressure (Ashe–Edmunds 3). High blood
pressure can lead to heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. But weight loss can help reduce high
blood pressure, so sports that burn calories address this problem.
Depending on the sport that a child participates in, most sports require physical activity. Research
has shown that "physical movement can affect the brain's physiology by increasing cerebral
capillary growth, blood flow, oxygenation, growth of nerve cells in the hippocampus,
neurotransmitter levels, development of nerve connections, density of neural network, and brain
tissue volume" (Donaldson 4). In other words, physical exercise causes short–term relaxation,
improved concentration, enhanced creativity and memory, improved mood, and enhanced problem–
solving abilities. Sport can help prevent drug and alcohol abuse by teaching young athletes to be
aware of their body and how it responds to different stimuli and circumstances. Athletes learn to
value what their bodies can do and to maintain those abilities (Jones 2). Being an athlete gives kids
an acceptable reason to say no to drugs, alcohol, and other unhealthy behaviors when offered by
their peers.

The Social Center For Lgbt Youth
The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply "What social outlets are available
for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area?". We chose this question because the majority of
the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness
is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT–themed
social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths
towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT–centric––for these young
people, being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless––have
distinct needs that other individuals don't. And when these needs aren't met, the consequences can be
tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide
(Center for American Progress, 2010). Before we began our work, officials at our site informed us
that they did not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much
more important.
We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made
because many of the clients, being homeless, do not have the means to go far distances. It would
have been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for
choosing assets, we included

Party Manifestos in Relation to Youth and Youth Voting
CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF PARTY MANIFESTOS IN RELATION TO YOUTH AND YOUTH
VOTING.
Amongst the various and numerous political party manifestos of which can be simply defined as
policies, aims, objectives or intentions that are publicly declared, normally before an election by the
running party's candidates, all of political nature presented to potential voters in hope to win their
vote, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are the two
political parties upon which I have chosen to focus on. The purpose of this essay is to compare the
party manifestos of the ANC and the EFF in relation to youth and youth voting. Firstly I will discuss
the youth's needs in my community in relation to the needs identified in the party's manifestos,
secondly I will discuss the two political party's position in relation to the youth and youth voting,
lastly I will discuss the party's ability to motivate youth and win the youth vote.
The African National Congress (ANC) party is a political party with the aim to unite the people of
South Africa in particular and to be the driving force in fighting the "struggle for fundamental
political, social and economic change" (http://www.anc.org.za/). Youth can be defined as all people
between the ages of fourteen (14) and thirty–five (35) years. Firstly, in relation to the needs of the
youth in my current community (University of Johannesburg Campus Residences), the various

human side of globalization in youth culture as a whole. Youth are important but the society does
not realize this because they are paying attention to more the cultural side of the problem. No longer
is it a question of whether globalization is having an impact on all aspects of human life; the more
pressing question being asked today is what that impact entails. "The core goal is to explore the

people" according to Jacqueline Kennelly. The youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is difficult to discern between global and local influences between the spatial effects of
globalization in our everyday lives. This is a special issue that needs to be addressed to the point that

these articles we see that youth have created new social and cultural spaces in the global and local
communities that experience problems with race, class and gender all over the world. I think youth
need to have more focus because everyday in the news something is going on with children getting
into trouble or dying for unknown reasons. Such as getting shot for wearing a hoodie or taking
unknown drugs that affect them by hanging around bad influences this is an example of how youth

their lives." Education also plays an important role in the youth culture because the education
systems are organized nationally and there has been suspicion that globalization has been on the rise
in these communities according to Julie McLeod. Global or transnational changes do not simply
happen in global either and can manifest in particular places and times. As Kenneth Hultqvist (2003)

Essay on Youth Culture
Essay on Youth Culture
The 60's and 70's saw the rise of youth culture. Youth culture can be seen as a particular pattern of
beliefs, values, symbols and activities that a group of young people are seen to share.
Along with the rise of youth culture came the theories developed on it. The theories developed in the
60's were mainly functionalism. Functionalists believe that society or a social structure is like a
biological structure and that all social institutions function for the survival of society. As social
structures change by becoming more complex, social institutions change by becoming more
specialised. Functionalists, therefore, believe youth culture has a social function; they see it as
young people solving there shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalists like Eisenstadt explain social institutions in terms of social problems and cultural
solutions. The youth "problem" lies in young peoples marginal status, youth culture eases the
resulting anxieties and uncertainties. His argument is that in meeting young peoples needs, youth
culture has the general function of smoothing the transition from child to adult. He believes that the
most important function for its members was emotional and providing young people with a set of
relationships, (peer groups.) The most important point for Eisenstadt is not that some young people
become deviants but that even the most deviant of youths become normal adults. He saw youth
culture not as a political rebellion but as an essential problem solving social function.
Eisenstadts argument is a general argument. It refers to the transition that faces all young people in
industrial society but not all young people are the same. He didn't take into account that growing up
middle class is different to growing up working class and that growing up male is different to
growing up female. Also, he was explaining youth culture in a time of relative affluence and
optimism, growing up was not particularly problematic in the 1950's.
In the 1970's the strongly Marxist influenced CCCS related class to youth subcultures. They argued
that youth styles were a reflection of the economic system and its related class relations. They
claimed that

The Reasons For Youth Homelessness
Homelessness can sometimes seem like a surreal thing which does not actually happen to real
people, or at least not to the people you know. However, statistically speaking, thirty thousand
people are homeless on any given night. For every one of these homeless people, three point five
people are what is known as 'hidden homeless'. Commonly referred to as couch surfers, these are
people who have no permanent residence, but stay with relatives or friends temporarily. Young
people aged sixteen to twenty four are twenty percent of the homeless population. With these high
numbers of homelessness right while we are in high school and while pursuing higher education, of
course a large majority are also attempting to cope with homelessness. Reasons for youth
homelessness can be a wide range of things, and it can be considered an intersectional issue. One
issue that commonly stems from being apart of another minority group, this is especially true for
aboriginal people, who are at the highest risk of being homeless in Canada. The most common
reasons for youth homelessness are fleeing from abuse and neglect. Studies show seventy percent of
homeless youth have suffered from some form of physical, sexual or emotional abuse in their short
life time. Another common reason is being kicked out for coming out. It is estimated that one in five
homeless youth are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Delays in transfer of school records, lack
of transport, and lack of

Results like this don 't just speak for the character of a generation, they are testimony to the way that
adults represent the world to the younger generation. It shows the sort of example being set in the
culture at large.
It is very easy to point fingers at media, celebrities, divorced or single parents, working mothers, and
"liberal" attitudes toward things like sex, drugs and alcohol. Much too easy. But the things that
disenfranchise youth and lead them astray are rarely that simple. In fact, the tactic of laying blame at
convenient targets usually only makes the problem worse. Whether adults want to accept it or not,
teens like "their" celebrities, "their" TV programs, music and movies, and "their" culture. The things
that are popular are popular because teens are drawn to them, not because divorce rates are high or
women are in the workforce. Instead of laying blame, adults should try listening to youth. It is a
proven fact that when adults listen, when there is an open dialogue between parent and teen, issues
are better resolved and compromises more readily reached. If attitudes like those demonstrated in
the Josephson Institute survey are to be reversed an open and honest dialogue between adults and
youth must occur.

Youth Service Proposal
I am a very active individual within my church however we do not currently have a youth services
program. This has become very popular and common in my area therefore I feel it is important to
implement a youth outreach program at my church. Drift Pentecostal Church is an adult–driven
church that has dissipated in youth over the last 10 years. Drift Pentecostal Church has not had a
youth program since the early 70 's. The program has dwindled to a mere once a week Sunday
School class that is separated by ages. With each year, the enrollment has diminished thereby
leaving our church with only 20 youth members ranging from ages 2–18 years of age. Of these
individuals, approximately 80 percent are under the age of 10. Although the pastor is very effective
at bringing in new members, it is still important to target the youth in our society today. The most
important reason, schools are no longer allowing God in their programs. With the constant fight for
separation of church and state, the youth are suffering. The importance of developing a youth
program is critical in order to drive our youth into the churches and into God 's hands. In an article
written by Mark Howard, he wrote, "the youth are restless, insecure, jaded, and desperately
searching for meaning to explain all the hurt and suffering they see around them, meaning for their
very existence," therefore what the youth need most is the gospel of Christ Jesus. He is the one who
gives meaning to this life. In a study

In effect, children "see" themselves when they interact with other people, as if they are looking in a
mirror. Individuals use the perceptions that others have of them to develop judgments and feelings
about themselves.
2. Taking role of the other
Children pretend to be other people in their play and in so doing learn what these other people
expect of them. Younger children take the role of significant others, or the people, most typically
parents and siblings, who have the most contact with them; older children when they play sports and
other games take on the roles of other people and internalize the expectations of the generalized

They created an in–home program for when families are experiencing difficulties and their child is
at risk, but before major issues have occurred. This is significant because they realized as an
organization that they can target the issues a step earlier to potentially prevent later issues.
Furthermore, they target prevention through providing programs for children aging out of foster
care. They examined the statistics that children who age out of foster care have a 50% incarceration
rate and a 50% chance of becoming a parent before the age of 21. They created a transitional living
program where residents have to graduate high school and either enter college or become employed.
This is a prevention program because they found that this group of people is at–risk when they are
finished with foster care and that this is an area they could help. They also provide parenting
assistance if the person that aged out of foster care is already a parent. This is important because the
individual may have never had a stable and loving parent, so they need training on how to be a
loving and supportive parent. This prevention method will hopefully help the cycle from repeating
itself. This exemplifies ADS because this organization realizes the value of identifying potential
issues before they

The Importance Of Youth Ministry
The education of youth is important because all our thinking and action should begin with God.
Because young people are highly relational, Christian doctrine is critical for effective youth
ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth
ministry must copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth
ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life, teachings and work for us.
The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be
effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to
learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational
ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully
navigate the seas over which they will travel.
Chapter Seven: Transforming the Mind, 2 (feelings)
Youth ministry's focus is to intentionally help each young person develop a foundation of spiritual
maturity with Jesus Christ. The process of a teenager becoming a responsible Christian adult is
when they lose interest in childish behaviors and focus on the Lord's will allowing the Spirit to lead
them into a servant's role.
Chapter nine: Transforming the Body
Spiritual transformation requires the transformation of the body because the flesh is weak, I must
not let my body parts control my actions. Christian

Homeless Youth : Homeless Youths
It is estimated that between 240,000 and 400,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer
(LGBTQ+) youth experience at least one incident of homelessness each year in the United States
(National Alliance to End Homelessness, qtd in Ream and Forge). However, it is important to note
that these estimates have wide margins of error because tracking statistics for marginalized
communities is quite difficult. Furthermore, homeless LGBTQ+ youths also have challenges not
faced by their cisgender–heterosexual (cis–het) homeless peers, including discrimination in non–
LGBTQ+–specific youth homeless services and greater health disparities, including greater rates of
victimization, sexual risk behaviors, substance use, mental illness, and ... Show more content on

To combat a problem such as this, so–called "Right to Work" laws should be fought. Right–to–Work
laws weaken unions (Eisenbrey), and often times homeless LGBTQ+ people are asked to get jobs as
a way to "get back on their feet" and achieve economic independence. This becomes a problem for
homeless LGBTQ+ people (or anyone) who lack union representation because "entry–level,
minimum–wage jobs that were available... "are physically demanding, have unpredictable
schedules, and pay so meagerly that workers can't save up enough to move on" (Ehrenreich, qtd in
Ream and Forge). If instead, many of these jobs were unionized, workers would see higher wages,
better hours and more flexibility, and better working conditions (Walters & Mishel). Many LGBTQ+
homeless youths are also low–income people of color, and because of countless factors, have not
completed high school. In 2013, the jobless rate for low–income black youths without a high school
diploma was 95 percent (PBS, qtd in Ream and Forge). There are no jobless rate statistics for youths
who have similar identities who also identify LGBTQ+, but it is possible that such a statistic would
only confirm other reports that LGBTQ+ youths have much harder challenges compared to cis–
hetero youths, especially when factoring in homelessness (Cochran et al., qtd in Bidell).

really where it is anymore? When we look back at the initial goals of youth sport, they include
developing character, values, skills, and to reduce juvenile delinquency. Fast forward to now, the
priorities have completely changed. Instead of this idea of improving the kid's overall wellbeing, it
has shifted to this idea of commercializing youth sport. Brad Nicholson, from Princeton University,
points out that commercializing youth sport have "blurred the key aspects of sport with elements
such rule enforcement, and ranking systems (Nicholson, 2010)".
Along with the change in priorities, most people believe that kids stopped playing ... Show more

Parents are important contributors to kids participating in sport because they are the ones who
initiate their involvement along with providing some sort of support for their kids over the time they
play. But all parents are different. Parent involvement in youth sport follows two patterns, support
and pressures, and sport specialization. Most of the time the support and pressures of the parents,
lead to the kids specializing in the sports. Children's goal orientation, learning, and worry is directly
associated with the perceptions of the motivational climate established by parents (Wiersma,

Youth And Its Effects On Youth
Youth today face significantly more educational, social, psychological and physical challenges than
the youth of the past. The teen age years can be the most difficult and perhaps the most crucial
period in a person's life. In these years, we begin to build a self concept and self identity that will
carry us throughout the rest of our lives. Society and media places a heavy expectation on youth
ranging from how they are too look and dress to the increasingly extensive levels of education
needed just to get a decent job. Furthermore, the stigmas placed on todays youth as lazy,
disrespectful, spoiled and egocentric make it difficult to meet these social standards. Thus, many
teens do not know where to turn for support. Youth drug use, both recreational and prescription, has
become an epidemic in Canada. Between curiosity, availability and peer pressure, young people are
left vulnerable. Social influences among peer groups, within school systems and in the community,
make drug use seem almost expected, and this expectation can have dire costs for those who do not
have the executive functioning to understand the consequences of there actions. Drug use can have
physical, psychology, developmental and social consequence which all contribute to the overall
development of an individual. There are many risk factors, both proximal and distal, that aid in the
increasing use of drugs among youth. But at the same time there are many protective factors that can
be implemented within the

The Controversy Of Youth Sports
In the most recent decade, the controversy of youth sports has been a very important discussion for
people in the United States. Sports are a popular pastime for young athletes, and there are
approximately 45 million participants of youth sports in the US. However, just like most things,
there are pros and cons to be considered of these activities.
In an article by John R. Gerdy, he states that the biggest problems with youth sports are the parents
and coaches. At a typical practice, most of the time is dedicated to fundamental skill instructions and
only a small percentage of the practice is actually allowed for the player to have fun playing pick–up
games without adult involvement. Allowing kids to be alone for their own practice then they

Youth Of Color Ageism
The first article, "Police Make Life Hell for Youth of Color" discusses the stop and frisky policy in
New York. Innocuous activities such as grocery shopping, visiting a friend or walking home from
work or school are suspicious activities if performed by the African– American or Latino
communities. The stop and frisk policy is a systematic weapon that policemen utilize against ethnic
people–even children.
The thought and fear of being stopped, frisked, and arrested is enough to incite resentment and
apprehension to the Black and Latino communities. According to NYPD documents, 145,098 people
were stopped, questioned, and/or searched, with Black people contributing to half of those numbers.

Markee states that young people may not be concerned about ageism until it affects them. The
reality is that it affects them now, and has since they were born. And the further they push
addressing it, the more deeply it will affect them. Supporting an elder can help the individual figure
out how they will fact the issue later on. The author then lists some measure allies of elders can take
to help the older community. Some statements fall in different categories about their mindset,
physical, mental, and psychological health. Older people should be assumed to have the potential to
be brilliant, that they have long, productive futures, and that they have given up in life. Also, older
people are sexually appealing and that they do have sexual needs. Older people should also be
offered to give their opinion without being interrupted. Allies should not think that memory loss or
physical deterioration is the result of being old, but could be accumulated distress or illness. The
author ends the essay by mentioning that allies should choose an elder that is not being supported
and support them. This could be beneficial to the ally. Just as it is the duty of the dominant group to
support the disenfranchised group, as in the case for white leaders to support people of color leaders,

Youth Sports Argumentative
Participation in sports by children and adolescents is associated with a range of documented
physical, emotional, social, educational, and other benefits that can last into adulthood. But
increasingly, many young people opt out of sports, while others are locked out due to a lack of
resources or access to community programs. Health and other needs go unmet. The U.S. government
produces limited data on sport participation and physical activity rates, and none on youth before
high school age. The strongest data is generated through an annual household survey conducted by
the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). In 2008, 30.2% of youth ages 6 to 12 were active
to a healthy level through sports, organized or unstructured; by 2015, that number had dropped to
26.6%, according to SFIA. Among 13– to 17–year–olds, the rate fell from 42.7% to 39.3%. I
believe, teens and younger children shouldn't be restricted from playing sports in school because it
keeps you healthy, builds knowledge, and is helping give better self esteem. The first reason why
kids should be able to play sports is that it keeps them healthy. According to "Facts: Sports Activity
and Children" by the Aspen Institute, ¨Sports participation is a significant predictor of young adults'
participation in sports and physical fitness activities. Adolescents who play sports are eight times as
likely to be active at age 24 as adolescents who do

Essay on The Portrayal of Youth in the Media
The Portrayal of Youth in the Media
Introduction
I am going to write a peace of coursework on how young children and the media portrays young
adults. I will see how different media pieces give their views on how the youth of today and how
they portray them as thugs and disturbers of the peace or as obliging but misunderstood people.
Development
I am going to study the two pieces of media. The first one I will analyse is an article by BBC news
Online: UK which was realest on Wednesday 20th of March 2002, the other piece is an article from
Edinburgh evening news. It was written by Bernadette Monagham, it was released on Friday 27th
August 2004 the first article is about how two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer also uses past criminal offence that they have been charged for like 'the brothers appeared
before flax Bourton magistrates after breaching behaviour orders imposed two years ago. They were
prohibited to go in the town centre and they broke the ban many many times. The writer only looked
at the boys from one angle, he only writes about how bad they are and giving the impression that
they should be locked up somewhere, anywhere.
Further development 2
The second article is telling that how much crimes rates are decreasing, not increasing and how
tagging young offenders send the wrong message to the public. Ms Monagham gives the message
that youth crime is decreasing and that the public are only concerned with the crimes that are going
on and not enough concern for how much crime has decreased by youths. It also speaks about how
offenders come from a background of no love given to them by there families. It says that young
offenders haven't been given much attention and they commit crimes to have some attention of
people and especially by their families. The attitude towards this article is that it is trying to put
across the message that youth crimes are decreasing and the approach that the writer is using is by
giving an example of a 10 year old and asking if it if fair to prosecuting someone of such a young
age and what affects it will have on that person

Youth Sports Research Paper
Youth sports have many issues that affects kids like injuries, lack of interest in the sport and most
importantly bad parenting. The problem in youth sports is that parents expect too much from their
children at a young age causing them to stop doing sports at the age 13, more or less. Parents are
making their children play year round sports that can lead into injuries. What I've researched so far,
many articles and journals are meant for parents to make them improve their parenting on young
athletes. I've read that many parenting styles regarding youth sports are repetitive. In other words,
many parents are making the same mistakes like being too hard on their kid or enforcing training for
many hours. From my research so far there are good and bad physical and mental outcomes of kids
doing sports at an early age. Many of which are mainly good but all ... Show more content on

The parent was forcing their kid to play in the game after she had just told me that she did not feel
well. I had told her to sit out until she felt better but the parent was yelling at her and myself to put

of winning for the parents. Youth sports interests me because I feel that this would be useful and
helpful to know in the future. Also, I would understand more, involving the parenting and what not
to do and also how to deal with the parents in certain situations. This is interesting to me also
because youth sports can be helpful in many ways for kids growing up but can hurt them if in the
hands of bad parenting. I like learning about the anything related to being active like in ways to
become a better athlete and teaching other about it. I like learning about the psychological part of

Paragraph On Youth And Poverty
Youth and Poverty
Youth is theorized as the stage when young people transform into adults through the adoption of the
social indicators of adulthood in the society (Buckner, Mezzacappa & Beardslee, 2003). These
indicators encompass; seeking employment; marrying and starting families; and contributing to the
state's growth through productivity. It is one of the most fundamental stages of the development of
any human being and calls for the satisfaction of a variety of needs. Most processes in the economic,
political, and social sectors determine the behaviors and output of the youths (Buckner, Mezzacappa
& Beardslee, 2003). Some of the great adversities facing the youths today include unemployment,
informality, high competitiveness, alcohol and substance abuse, and the lack of both social and
economic openings. The increasing social transformation difficulties faced by youths today are
attributed to; social cataclysms; dwindling labor markets; and wasteful education systems. These
difficulties are the catalysts to the high levels of poverty facing a great fraction of youths across the
globe. These tribulations push the youths into participating in depraved activities such as
prostitution, drug and substance abuse, and delinquency. This paper will explore the behaviors of the
youths, the obligation of the society and the government to the youths and the key issues behind the
high correlation of youths and poverty and the role of the youths to end poverty.

Are Youth Sports Too Dangerous
Youth sports are like violent attack. Some kid may tackle you or harm you. You can never trust
anyone. Studies have shown that youth sports had a significant impact on the health of children all
through their life. The texts "Youth sports –– too dangerous? / Are youth sports too harmful?" by
Tony Cooper, "The Psychology of Youth Sports" by Marilyn Price–Mitchell Phd, and "Many kids
are overdoing it when it comes to sports, and that's dangerous" by Ryan Basen convey that youth
sports have become a huge issue, as more and more children are getting injured and harmed
everyday. Youth sports may seem like fun activities that build social interaction and make them
personable but, can be harmful since many children can end up in the hospital due to ... Show more

The text "Many kids are overdoing it when it comes to sports, and that's dangerous" states "I clearly
overdid it with too much running and jumping sports, then failed to say that I was hurting. I was a
hyperactive, stubborn kid who loved sports." This evidence shows that the author of this article was
once a participant in youth sports and tried to be the best at his sport. Due to him trying so much he
was getting hurt. Some kids try way too hard to be the best at their sport. When the kids try, they
immediately start to get worn out. Kids need to devise a plan to help them not be a tryhard and not
overwork yourself. Sometimes parents can also influence the overtrying of the kids. Kids who
habituate themselves to the sport can make significant contributions to a team. Some parents want
their children to be the best they can be in their sport. They want them to excel which puts a lot of
stress on the shoulders of the kids. The kids then continue to try harder and harder which eventually
causes injuries and sore limbs which may force kids to drop out of the sports they love. All in all,
many kids try way too hard to excel and overdo it when it comes to

2. SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM
2A History of the problem
The exposure to risk factors increased the development of violence for young people. Risk facts
increases the probability that a person will suffer harm (General 2001). Risk factors increase the
likelihood of children exposure to violence. Risk factors vary on many levels. They are individual,
family, social and community risk factors. Each work together to increase the exposure to violence.
Overtime violence interrupted youth's ability to focus, trust, communicate, believe and consider a
future for themselves. Children who are exposed to high levels of risk factors are more violent than
youths who are not exposed to such factors.

This effect trickle down to the woman in the village, whom all she had known to do all her life is to
combine many things together at the same time, like carrying a breastfeeding baby on her laps, using
one hand to blow the fire she created with woods which she is using to cook for her family, using
the other hand to stir the cassava flour on fire, and at the same time, weaving a basket at intervals.
She has it in mind to sell the basket in the market on the next market day. How pathetic it will be for
her to go through all that stress, and at the end of the day she loses the profits to a hooligan who was
actually turned a hooligan by the youth unemployment crisis. At the other extreme, a rich man in the
city gets a large amount of money from a contract and could not deposit it in the bank that day
because the money came late and banks had closed for the day. He prayerfully takes the money
home to deposit it first thing the following morning. That same night, "Mr. Smart Guy" comes with
a "team" of others to rob the rich man of his money. At the same time, in between the two extremes,
lies the average civil servant who stays at home one evening with his family watching a family
programme on TV. The entire neighbourhood was actually dark due to power outage. The family
only had an exclusive interest in the programme and managed to put on their generating set in order
not to miss the program. This was around 8.00pm.

My Reading Of Youth Ministry
Through my reading of Youth Ministry in the 21st Century I have learned a lot about many different
21st ministry models. There were many models which I agreed with as well as models that I did not
agree with. I agreed most with Greg Stier and Ron Hunter.
In reading about the Gospel Advancing view of youth ministry, I enjoyed reading his 6 vital
elements. If a youth group is going to transform into a youth ministry then the youth pastor should
prepare students for relational evangelism, students need to learn to invade the world with the
Gospel (pg.9). By building relationships with those around us the door to share the Gospel is opened
up to us and it allows for conversation to happen. Another vital point that Greg Stier uses is to make

161). Parents often live a very busy life and it is hard for them to take time to best learn how to
disciple their student. By coaching parents through this stage in life, we can teach them methods to
become spiritual leaders in the lives of their students. After reading through the book I began to
compile what my youth ministry would look like and how these different perspectives on life have
influenced and changed my view of a student ministry.
Evangelism & Discipleship A youth ministry should not be an either/ or ministry, either evangelism
focused or discipleship focused. Both evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand. Jesus clearly
had a high view of evangelism because he shared the Gospel with others throughout his ministry. All
Christ followers have been evangelized to at some point in their lives. Their as been some one that
has taken time to share or explain the Gospel to us. Therefore, evangelism should be important to us
all as it has allowed us to have a relationship with God. No student should ever go through a
Church, a student ministry, or a children's ministry without ever hearing the Gospel. The Gospel
should be clear shared with students because it is a youth pastors driving force to see young people
come to know Christ. A student ministry should provide opportunities for students to be evangelized
as well as to evangelize. Students will be at different stages in their spiritual journeys, so it

only and nobody emphasis on positive side. Very less is discussed about positive sides of youths.
There is tremendous power, remarkable and ample positive side that Indian youths possess. Positive
sides need to be noticed, discussed and encouraged every day. It is necessary to arm our youth with
the relevant knowledge and skill that will convert this mammoth potential to desired results.
Let's have a look to some of Indian young entrepreneurs, students and officers who has created

Violence In Youth Sports
Growing up as a young adult is hard enough as it is, playing sports should not be a challenge for
them, but a fun environment filled with growth and learning. Unfortunately the youth today have to
deal with more than just competing at sports. Youth sports should be focusing on challenging their
strengths and building character, but this is not the case. The challenges that the youth in sports
today are going through deals with three different categories. The first is parents that are out of
control and seem to take watching their children playing sports too far. In some cases not letting the
kids just have fun playing, but have alternative motives for their future in sports. The darker side of
youth sports, is parents that are emotional abusive and tend to bully more than support their
children. The second category in challenges that the youth face in sports is the dangers young
athletes may encounter playing a contact sport. The number one danger is injuries and how this will
take a toll on their bodies as they mature. The other is eating disorders, improper dieting, and the
pressure they put on themselves to perform at a top level. The last category is the violence in youth
sports. Unfair treatment during games, may lead to off the field violence. Also the violence they are
encountering during the game. Playing a contact sport will generate emotions that many of the
youths just cannot deal with or express in a positive way. The results of this violence, if not treated

CM 101: Youth Ministry Philosophy & Leadership
17 May 2015
My Philosophy for Youth Ministry
I believe that youth ministry is vital to the growth and effectiveness of the church–local and
universal. In order for the church to grow, the adult generations of the church needs to insure the
faith by training children and young adults "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord"(Ephesians
6:4). When the youth of the church are not taught the importance of a vibrant and active relationship
with God, then the church will see its ranks become thin and aged. With age comes wisdom and
experience, but with youth comes energy and determination. In order for the church to be effective it
must see youth ministry as a vital part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again there needs to be growth within the youth leaders as well as the teens. Parents are not exempt
from this need either. Growth can be encouraged in a number of ways, but one that is critical for the
believer is through the Word of God. 1 Peter 2:2 says that "As newborn babes[we ought to], desire
the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby." The Bible needs to be the main source of
where we draw our teaching and instruction for righteous living. We cannot rely completely on what
we feel about our walk with God or else we fall in danger of heresy or incorrect thinking about the
faith we possess. Doctrine from God's Word is what gives us the reason for why we do what we do
and why we believe in what we believe. Therefore we must show our teens that God's Word is a
perfect source for growth. Charles Spurgeon's comments fit perfectly the first two values I believe
should be focused on in youth ministry. He has been recorded having said that "Bread is a second
cause; the LORD Himself is the first source of our sustenance. He can work without the second
cause as well as with it; and we must not tie Him down to one mode of operation."
Galatians 5:13c says "by love serve one another." The last area that would be profitably applied as a
principle for youth ministry is the area of service.
Service is an essential part of any church's ministry and having teens learn to

Purpose Of A Space For Youth
Missions has always been, and continues to be, a cornerstone of my passion to serve. As I continue
to look for the most impactful ways to support the causes that are most important to my ministry, I
will take into account how to unify by second passion dear to my heart, children and youth with my
desire to serve through mission. Missions is a service concerned with providing saving decrees to
God's living children in our communities and throughout the world. It is a service that goes beyond
the four walls of the church. I envision, from this stewardship effort, I can create a space for youth
to transform their community, city, state and the world through mission. A world where young
people are able to engage, embrace, and promote a prospering life that supports those they encounter
through their service of mission.
Today's youth are tomorrow's stewards and leaders. Thus, the purpose of this initiative is to build
stewardship by connecting youth to mission through joyful practical application, knowledge from
the experience they gain, and the actions they take to cultivate a healthy and thriving outlook to
serve humanity. Essentially, so they may continue to support mission work in perpetuity.
Purpose and Vision
Mission today, is as it was with Timothy in the days of Paul. It was Paul who wrote to his young

Minneapolis Youth Violence Reduction Strategies

  • 1. Youth Violence Memo Thank you for participating in our recent Special Results Minneapolis roundtable conversation on youth violence prevention. A roundtable meeting presents a unique opportunity for City staff, leadership, elected officials, and stakeholders from outside agencies and organizations to engage in robust discussions. The Youth Violence Prevention Special Report presented by the Minneapolis Health Department focused their data driven approach on identifying trends and opportunities to reduce youth violence. From the discussion, three interrelated themes emerged. To reduce youth violence, it requires actions taken with youth, families, and the greater Minneapolis community. The following memo details these themes, and suggests ways to reduce youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, to reduce youth violence, it is necessary to make 'wraparound services' available to youth also available to families. Without supporting families, efforts to curtail youth violence cannot be as effective. Theme: The Greater Minneapolis Community Has the Resources to Reduce Youth Violence. A consistent theme that at–risk youth raise in discussions with community social workers is the desire to have a job. Minneapolis has done a great deal of work in connecting youth to employers through program such as 'Step–up' and 'Pathways'. These programs give any adolescence, at risk or not, a unique opportunity to build purpose and nurture relationships with potential future employers. These programs help to create positive life trajectories for youth. The Minneapolis Public Schools' (MPS) has operated a highly successful afterschool program for years. Over the last 15 years, the funding for the program has declined precipitously. Limited funds have made it challenging for MPS to keep the program staffed with teachers, relying on an inconsistent flow of volunteers instead. The afterschool program is an invaluable resource in the effort to reduce youth violence. Instead of unsupervised and unstructured time, the program keeps youth focused on completing homework, developing skills, exposes them to mentors, and allows parents to rest assured that their children are safe while they are still at ... • 3. Youth And Youth Subcultures Adolescence is the physiological developmental period between childhood and adulthood, known to be a turbulent time of self–exploration and discovery. Hall (1904) described adolescence as a period of 'storm and stress' associated with mood disruptions, parental conflict and risky behaviours. Similarly, youth is a socially constructed phase, not defined by age or physical development, but rather specific progressive phases and transitions. Youth fall between the full dependence of childhood and independence of adulthood, described as partially dependent individuals that are in a phase of self–exploration and development of identity (Furlong, 2013). Youth transitions are best viewed as a process of identity development where young people draw on a range of influences, experiences and relationships in the formation of their identity (Stokes & Wyn, 2007). Modern youth transitions have seen an increased emergence of subjectivities in identity construction outside of inherited characteristics. Perceived more as an ongoing process of integrating influences and experiences through conscious action and self–reflection (Stokes & Wyn, 2007). Due to the distinct lifestyles associated with youth there is an important cultural dimension associated with youth transitions. Formation of different youth subcultures are a reflection of distinct styles, behaviours and interests adopted by young people (Furlong, 2013). • 5. The Problem Of Homeless Youth Theoretical Framework Homeless Youth 11/1/2014 Ken Dix Homeless youth are a standout amongst the most underestimated gatherings in our general public. Numerous specialists recognize much more elevated amounts of different issue practices among these adolescent contrasted with their non–homeless associates. The current study analyzed the utility of social capital in foreseeing issue practices among homeless youth. Homelessness is portrayed as circumstances of people or family units without steady, uninterrupted, proper lodging, or the quick prospect, means and capacity of getting it. It is the aftereffect of universal or public obstructions, an absence of reasonable and suitable lodging, the individual/family unit 's money related, mental, cognitive, behavioral or physical difficulties, and/or bigotry and segregation. A majority of individuals don 't decide to be dispossessed, and the occurrence is usually negative, unsavory, upsetting and troubling In the reading of "Toward a needs–based typology of homeless youth. Journal of Adolescent Health" the schemas was a little different. In the article they look at homeless in youth in four categories. Homeless youth are now widely recognized and accepted in the literature: situational runaways, runaways, throwaways, and systems youth (Coward Bucher, C, 2008) Homelessness depicts the circumstances of an individual or family without steady, lasting, fitting lodging, or the quick prospect, means and capacity of securing ... • 7. Youth And Social Construction The intricate nature of youth means that while some argue it is a universal stage of life, it is seen by many as a formation of sociocultural elements. Social construction can be defined as something that has been shaped by the values, interests or practices of a culture or society and this is evident in the youth demographic through its revolution in recent years. The markings of youth are social in formulation; highlighting the way in which young people have been influenced by differing trends and movements. Youth is a transitional phase, its age bracket extending and blurring; transcending global divides and traditions. Thus, it is the social context that surrounds youth which suggests that it is not a universal stage of life. Ultimately, the idea of youth when viewed in a historical and cultural context as well as in relation to other socially influenced concepts such as adulthood, can be observed as a social construction. A Post–First World War occurrence, the concept of youth emerged as a historically comprised debate in response to the social, political and cultural shifts at the time. Youth became a label used to categorize a particular age group, with education and perceived life progress used to mark the unfixed period between childhood and adulthood. It has been suggested that there has been disruption in the general 'life patterns' for young people present around the time of, or born just after the First World War (White & Wyn, 2008). The statement is helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A New Year Of Youth Group To be honest, I had nervous expectations coming into a new year of youth group because I had just gotten out of an unsuccessful summer romance with a fellow sponsor that I volunteer at TIC with every week. However, my fears were unnecessary; the added expectations of this internship helped me focus less on the awkwardness of the failed relationship and focus more on my youth ministry efforts. When I was a freshman sponsor, there was a Dordt senior sponsor who interned under the church and was paid by the church for her work. I always felt the shame of being under my processor's shadow of high expectations because I feel like I'm not good enough to have New Life want to pay me. This may sound bad, but I actually had low expectations for my practicum this semester. I didn't expect it to be much different from the volunteering that I had already been doing with New Life for the past two years. I expected the general blanket statements of the goals that all youth workers expect: being able to grow in my relationships with students in order to help these teens grow in their relationship with God. If I've learned anything from my experiences, though, I've learned that you can never really expect anything in youth ministry. The biggest strength that I brought into the practicum was two years of prior experience with this youth group, which gave me the advantage of already being familiar with most of the people I worked with. I was given similar assignments and tasks by Ryan as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Youth Unemployment Digital revolution and its impact on Youth Unemployment Introduction In all facets of life young people can be potentially viewed as being particularly vulnerable, and across the world more and more young people are experiencing a soar in youth unemployment. It is fair to surmise that the longer young people are not engaging in employment opportunities, problems in society can and will become more self evident now and into the foreseeable future. It must be stated from the outset that the internet can offer very exciting possibilities and can enable greater global connectivity. As users (albeit somewhat reluctantly) we can have tasks undertaken online virtually anywhere in the world. Not all users or generations are as savvy with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prevalence of young people experiencing ongoing difficulties and barriers to obtaining employment is a complex issue. As professional Youth Workers we must not only arm ourselves with up–to–date understanding of what constitutes unemployment and how the digital landscape and the current and ongoing engagement an overwhelming amount of young people have with the digital landscape/world. We, as Youth Workers must also work with young people 's parents/caregivers. We must also explore advocating and creating links between young people, communities, employers and education providers, when possible. Research from across the globe has identified the growing and real concerns that more and more engagement with digital platforms by employers is playing out with potential young people seeking employment. Research such as undertaken by the Foundation for Young Australians which plainly tells us that as a nation, community and most importantly as those who work with young people to not ignore the real and prevalent ... • 13. LGBT Youth Obstacles LGBT Youth Obstacles There is a tremendous amount of LGBT youth that experience homelessness in the United States, and forty percent of them identify themselves as LGBT. There are so many issues that cause homelessness in the LGBT community such as discrimination in religious communities, lack of support from families and rejection from society. But in a world where these issues are all around us, how can we solve this? It starts with every individual to just stop and maybe educate themselves on this unique youth community and the struggles they must face to bring in equality. This education can start with volunteer work, educational classes, or even support groups. The problem is the discrimination against the LGBT youth community, so many do not understand what it means to be in the LGBT individual and the obstacles they must face such as finding a job, going to school and finding a place to live, etc. Many LGBT have to face discrimination while trying to attend and can be such a huge obstacle to try to receive an education when you have to go to a hostile work environment every day. In the article "Like walking through a Hailstorm–discrimination against LGBT Youth in US Schools" states that "A lack of policies and practices that affirm and support LGBT youth–and failure to implement protections that do exist –means that LGBT students nationwide continue to face bullying, exclusion, and discrimination in school, putting them at physical and phycological risk and ... • 15. Youth binge drinking To what extent is youth violence, crimes and anti–social behaviour linked to youths binge drinking. Binge drinking can be defined as an excessive consumption of alcohol within a short period of time to get drunk. This essay will focus on how youth violence, crime and anti–social behaviour is linked to youths binge drinking. It is widely known that the youths in United Kingdom start drinking at an early stage of their lives. Talbot and Crabbe (n.d.) state that "government statistics suggest that... the amount of alcohol consumed by younger adolescents aged 11–13 continues to climb." Underage drinking is linked to binge drinking as youths are not mature and responsible enough to think of the consequences. BBC News (2003) mentioned that "A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also known that regretful sexual activity is a leverage of youths heavy drinking. An article by The Christian Institute (2011) expresses the concern of youths engaging in alcohol–fuelled sex. The article states that "those binge drinking three or more times a week were over five times more likely than non–binge drinkers to have had sex they regretted following alcohol". It was also suggested that it is time for ministers should have a stricter attitude towards youths binge drinking. The article goes on to declare that the government has failed to control the issue of youths misusing alcohol. Having considered all of the points above, there are arguments about youth violence, crime and anti–social behaviour not relating to binge drinking. It is common for youths to go through a rebellious phase. During the stage of rebellion, crimes will be committed due to peer pressure or low family income. A report by Taylor (2003) claims that street robberies were urged on by the fear of youths being left out and bullied. This suggests that young people are very affected by how they are perceived in the eyes of other individuals which instigate them to commit crime. A research by Jacobson and Kirby (2012) mentions that lack of discipline was evidently the root to youth crimes. The research also mentions that boredom as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Benefits of Youth Sports Benefits of Youth Sports"Sports do not build character. They reveal it," said John Wooden, legendary UCLA basketball coach. Playing sports not only provides physical activity, but also other positive benefits. This is especially true for children. A well–structured and organized youth program will provide benefits and positive experiences for young athletes. While children are having fun participating in sports they are also building character, learning to work as a team, and playing fairly. Most people think the only benefits of sports are physical. Sports are more than just developing hand–eye coordination and burning calories, youth sports provide many developmental benefits, physical benefits, and psychological benefits. In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the American Heart Association, one in every three children is overweight. Children who are overweight are more likely to be obese as adults, increasing their risk for diseases and conditions such as diabetes, heart attack, and high blood pressure (Ashe–Edmunds 3). High blood pressure can lead to heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. But weight loss can help reduce high blood pressure, so sports that burn calories address this problem. Depending on the sport that a child participates in, most sports require physical activity. Research has shown that "physical movement can affect the brain's physiology by increasing cerebral capillary growth, blood flow, oxygenation, growth of nerve cells in the hippocampus, neurotransmitter levels, development of nerve connections, density of neural network, and brain tissue volume" (Donaldson 4). In other words, physical exercise causes short–term relaxation, improved concentration, enhanced creativity and memory, improved mood, and enhanced problem– solving abilities. Sport can help prevent drug and alcohol abuse by teaching young athletes to be aware of their body and how it responds to different stimuli and circumstances. Athletes learn to value what their bodies can do and to maintain those abilities (Jones 2). Being an athlete gives kids an acceptable reason to say no to drugs, alcohol, and other unhealthy behaviors when offered by their peers. The more children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Social Center For Lgbt Youth The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply "What social outlets are available for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area?". We chose this question because the majority of the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT–themed social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable. Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT–centric––for these young people, being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless––have distinct needs that other individuals don't. And when these needs aren't met, the consequences can be tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide (Center for American Progress, 2010). Before we began our work, officials at our site informed us that they did not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much more important. We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made because many of the clients, being homeless, do not have the means to go far distances. It would have been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for choosing assets, we included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amongst the various and numerous political party manifestos of which can be simply defined as policies, aims, objectives or intentions that are publicly declared, normally before an election by the running party's candidates, all of political nature presented to potential voters in hope to win their vote, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are the two political parties upon which I have chosen to focus on. The purpose of this essay is to compare the party manifestos of the ANC and the EFF in relation to youth and youth voting. Firstly I will discuss the youth's needs in my community in relation to the needs identified in the party's manifestos, secondly I will discuss the two political party's position in relation to the youth and youth voting, lastly I will discuss the party's ability to motivate youth and win the youth vote. The African National Congress (ANC) party is a political party with the aim to unite the people of South Africa in particular and to be the driving force in fighting the "struggle for fundamental political, social and economic change" (http://www.anc.org.za/). Youth can be defined as all people between the ages of fourteen (14) and thirty–five (35) years. There has been cultural implications are central to understanding human side of globalization in youth culture as a whole. Youth are important but the society does not realize this because they are paying attention to more the cultural side of the problem. No longer is it a question of whether globalization is having an impact on all aspects of human life; the more pressing question being asked today is what that impact entails. "The core goal is to explore the situated effects of the era in which we are living now on the global and local cultures of young people" according to Jacqueline Kennelly. The youth ... As explained in many of these articles we see that youth have created new social and cultural spaces in the global and local communities that experience problems with race, class and gender all over the world. I think youth need to have more focus because everyday in the news something is going on with children getting into trouble or dying for unknown reasons. Such as getting shot for wearing a hoodie or taking unknown drugs that affect them by hanging around bad influences this is an example of how youth culture By mapping and troubling how these frameworks operate in recent research about youth and globalization, Kennelly "asks how researchers interpret that represent apparent transformations in their lives." • 25. Essay on Youth Culture Essay on Youth Culture The 60's and 70's saw the rise of youth culture. Youth culture can be seen as a particular pattern of beliefs, values, symbols and activities that a group of young people are seen to share. Along with the rise of youth culture came the theories developed on it. The theories developed in the 60's were mainly functionalism. Functionalists believe that society or a social structure is like a biological structure and that all social institutions function for the survival of society. Functionalists like Eisenstadt explain social institutions in terms of social problems and cultural solutions. The youth "problem" lies in young peoples marginal status, youth culture eases the resulting anxieties and uncertainties. His argument is that in meeting young peoples needs, youth culture has the general function of smoothing the transition from child to adult. He believes that the most important function for its members was emotional and providing young people with a set of relationships, (peer groups.) The most important point for Eisenstadt is not that some young people become deviants but that even the most deviant of youths become normal adults. He saw youth culture not as a political rebellion but as an essential problem solving social function. Eisenstadts argument is a general argument. It refers to the transition that faces all young people in industrial society but not all young people are the same. He didn't take into account that growing up middle class is different to growing up working class and that growing up male is different to growing up female. Also, he was explaining youth culture in a time of relative affluence and optimism, growing up was not particularly problematic in the 1950's. However, statistically speaking, thirty thousand people are homeless on any given night. For every one of these homeless people, three point five people are what is known as 'hidden homeless'. Commonly referred to as couch surfers, these are people who have no permanent residence, but stay with relatives or friends temporarily. Young people aged sixteen to twenty four are twenty percent of the homeless population. With these high numbers of homelessness right while we are in high school and while pursuing higher education, of course a large majority are also attempting to cope with homelessness. Reasons for youth homelessness can be a wide range of things, and it can be considered an intersectional issue. One issue that commonly stems from being apart of another minority group, this is especially true for aboriginal people, who are at the highest risk of being homeless in Canada. The most common reasons for youth homelessness are fleeing from abuse and neglect. Studies show seventy percent of homeless youth have suffered from some form of physical, sexual or emotional abuse in their short life time. Another common reason is being kicked out for coming out. It is estimated that one in five homeless youth are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Delays in transfer of school records, lack of transport, and lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Results like this don 't just speak for the character of a generation, they are testimony to the way that adults represent the world to the younger generation. It shows the sort of example being set in the culture at large. It is very easy to point fingers at media, celebrities, divorced or single parents, working mothers, and "liberal" attitudes toward things like sex, drugs and alcohol. Much too easy. But the things that disenfranchise youth and lead them astray are rarely that simple. In fact, the tactic of laying blame at convenient targets usually only makes the problem worse. Whether adults want to accept it or not, teens like "their" celebrities, "their" TV programs, music and movies, and "their" culture. The things that are popular are popular because teens are drawn to them, not because divorce rates are high or women are in the workforce. Instead of laying blame, adults should try listening to youth. It is a proven fact that when adults listen, when there is an open dialogue between parent and teen, issues are better resolved and compromises more readily reached. If attitudes like those demonstrated in the Josephson Institute survey are to be reversed an open and honest dialogue between adults and youth must occur. : The preliminary results of the 2000 "Report Card on the Ethics of American Youth" are in and the results aren 't encouraging. • 31. Youth Service Proposal I am a very active individual within my church however we do not currently have a youth services program. This has become very popular and common in my area therefore I feel it is important to implement a youth outreach program at my church. Drift Pentecostal Church is an adult–driven church that has dissipated in youth over the last 10 years. Drift Pentecostal Church has not had a youth program since the early 70 's. The program has dwindled to a mere once a week Sunday School class that is separated by ages. With each year, the enrollment has diminished thereby leaving our church with only 20 youth members ranging from ages 2–18 years of age. Of these individuals, approximately 80 percent are under the age of 10. Although the pastor is very effective at bringing in new members, it is still important to target the youth in our society today. The most important reason, schools are no longer allowing God in their programs. With the constant fight for separation of church and state, the youth are suffering. The importance of developing a youth program is critical in order to drive our youth into the churches and into God 's hands. In an article written by Mark Howard, he wrote, "the youth are restless, insecure, jaded, and desperately searching for meaning to explain all the hurt and suffering they see around them, meaning for their very existence," therefore what the youth need most is the gospel of Christ Jesus. He is the one who gives meaning to this life. In a study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They examined the statistics that children who age out of foster care have a 50% incarceration rate and a 50% chance of becoming a parent before the age of 21. They created a transitional living program where residents have to graduate high school and either enter college or become employed. This is a prevention program because they found that this group of people is at–risk when they are finished with foster care and that this is an area they could help. They also provide parenting assistance if the person that aged out of foster care is already a parent. • 38. The Importance Of Youth Ministry The education of youth is important because all our thinking and action should begin with God. Because young people are highly relational, Christian doctrine is critical for effective youth ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth ministry must copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life, teachings and work for us. The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully navigate the seas over which they will travel. Chapter Seven: Transforming the Mind, 2 (feelings) Youth ministry's focus is to intentionally help each young person develop a foundation of spiritual maturity with Jesus Christ. The process of a teenager becoming a responsible Christian adult is when they lose interest in childish behaviors and focus on the Lord's will allowing the Spirit to lead them into a servant's role. Chapter nine: Transforming the Body Spiritual transformation requires the transformation of the body because the flesh is weak, I must not let my body parts control my actions. Christian ... However, it is important to note that these estimates have wide margins of error because tracking statistics for marginalized communities is quite difficult. Right–to–Work laws weaken unions (Eisenbrey), and often times homeless LGBTQ+ people are asked to get jobs as a way to "get back on their feet" and achieve economic independence. This becomes a problem for homeless LGBTQ+ people (or anyone) who lack union representation because "entry–level, minimum–wage jobs that were available... "are physically demanding, have unpredictable schedules, and pay so meagerly that workers can't save up enough to move on" (Ehrenreich, qtd in Ream and Forge). If instead, many of these jobs were unionized, workers would see higher wages, better hours and more flexibility, and better working conditions (Walters & Mishel). Many LGBTQ+ homeless youths are also low–income people of color, and because of countless factors, have not completed high school. In 2013, the jobless rate for low–income black youths without a high school diploma was 95 percent (PBS, qtd in Ream and Forge). There are no jobless rate statistics for youths who have similar identities who also identify LGBTQ+, but it is possible that such a statistic would only confirm other reports that LGBTQ+ youths have much harder challenges compared to cis– hetero youths, especially when factoring in homelessness (Cochran et al., qtd in Bidell). When we look back at the initial goals of youth sport, they include developing character, values, skills, and to reduce juvenile delinquency. Fast forward to now, the priorities have completely changed. Instead of this idea of improving the kid's overall wellbeing, it has shifted to this idea of commercializing youth sport. • 44. Youth And Its Effects On Youth Youth today face significantly more educational, social, psychological and physical challenges than the youth of the past. The teen age years can be the most difficult and perhaps the most crucial period in a person's life. In these years, we begin to build a self concept and self identity that will carry us throughout the rest of our lives. Society and media places a heavy expectation on youth ranging from how they are too look and dress to the increasingly extensive levels of education needed just to get a decent job. Furthermore, the stigmas placed on todays youth as lazy, disrespectful, spoiled and egocentric make it difficult to meet these social standards. Thus, many teens do not know where to turn for support. Youth drug use, both recreational and prescription, has become an epidemic in Canada. Between curiosity, availability and peer pressure, young people are left vulnerable. Social influences among peer groups, within school systems and in the community, make drug use seem almost expected, and this expectation can have dire costs for those who do not have the executive functioning to understand the consequences of there actions. Drug use can have physical, psychology, developmental and social consequence which all contribute to the overall development of an individual. There are many risk factors, both proximal and distal, that aid in the increasing use of drugs among youth. Youth Sports Argumentative Amaiya Phillips Youth Sports Argumentative Participation in sports by children and adolescents is associated with a range of documented physical, emotional, social, educational, and other benefits that can last into adulthood. But increasingly, many young people opt out of sports, while others are locked out due to a lack of resources or access to community programs. Health and other needs go unmet. The U.S. government produces limited data on sport participation and physical activity rates, and none on youth before high school age. The strongest data is generated through an annual household survey conducted by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). In 2008, 30.2% of youth ages 6 to 12 were active to a healthy level through sports, organized or unstructured; by 2015, that number had dropped to 26.6%, according to SFIA. Among 13– to 17–year–olds, the rate fell from 42.7% to 39.3%. I believe, teens and younger children shouldn't be restricted from playing sports in school because it keeps you healthy, builds knowledge, and is helping give better self esteem. The first reason why kids should be able to play sports is that it keeps them healthy. Paragraph On Youth And Poverty Youth and Poverty Youth is theorized as the stage when young people transform into adults through the adoption of the social indicators of adulthood in the society (Buckner, Mezzacappa & Beardslee, 2003). These indicators encompass; seeking employment; marrying and starting families; and contributing to the state's growth through productivity. It is one of the most fundamental stages of the development of any human being and calls for the satisfaction of a variety of needs. Most processes in the economic, political, and social sectors determine the behaviors and output of the youths (Buckner, Mezzacappa & Beardslee, 2003). Some of the great adversities facing the youths today include unemployment, informality, high competitiveness, alcohol and substance abuse, and the lack of both social and economic openings. The increasing social transformation difficulties faced by youths today are attributed to; social cataclysms; dwindling labor markets; and wasteful education systems. These difficulties are the catalysts to the high levels of poverty facing a great fraction of youths across the globe. These tribulations push the youths into participating in depraved activities such as prostitution, drug and substance abuse, and delinquency. • 69. Violence In Youth Sports Growing up as a young adult is hard enough as it is, playing sports should not be a challenge for them, but a fun environment filled with growth and learning. Unfortunately the youth today have to deal with more than just competing at sports. Youth sports should be focusing on challenging their strengths and building character, but this is not the case. The challenges that the youth in sports today are going through deals with three different categories. The first is parents that are out of control and seem to take watching their children playing sports too far. In some cases not letting the kids just have fun playing, but have alternative motives for their future in sports. The darker side of youth sports, is parents that are emotional abusive and tend to bully more than support their children. The second category in challenges that the youth face in sports is the dangers young athletes may encounter playing a contact sport. The number one danger is injuries and how this will take a toll on their bodies as they mature. The other is eating disorders, improper dieting, and the pressure they put on themselves to perform at a top level. The last category is the violence in youth sports. Unfair treatment during games, may lead to off the field violence. Also the violence they are encountering during the game. Playing a contact sport will generate emotions that many of the youths just cannot deal with or express in a positive way. The results of this violence, if not treated with ... The purpose of youth sport is to potential to bring families together, however, the possible of not being close and causing problems. Acorrending to the statement, "We are not teaching kids today, we are training their parents" is debated topic in youth and sports. For the most part, I disagree with the statement because organized youth sports is providing a safe environment for all players to enjoy and learn the sports. The youth sports purpose is to dealing with children safely and responsibly with organizing practices and teaching skills of the sport. It is important for the coach to teach and help children learn a life lesson. However, The concepts are the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here is a brief summary of the case of Leahy vs. The School Board of Hernando County in 1984. Leahy a football player, who was a freshman at the time, did not receive proper football equipment due to the school did not have enough equipment for all participants of the football program. Without the required equipment, helmet and mouth guard, the player was still expected to partake in what was called "non–aggressive" quickness drills against other players with the required equipment. There were other players that attempted the drill, but Leahy was the first player to attempt the drill without protective equipment. The case reports that Leahy claimed that there were no special instructions given to players that had equipment versus players that had no equipment. As Leahy attempted the drill, he suffered facial injuries and shattered his front teeth. The case reports that this was caused by the aggressiveness that had developed over time by all players involved and also the impact of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Youth Joshua Roberts CM 101: Youth Ministry Philosophy & Leadership 17 May 2015 My Philosophy for Youth Ministry I believe that youth ministry is vital to the growth and effectiveness of the church–local and universal. In order for the church to grow, the adult generations of the church needs to insure the faith by training children and young adults "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord"(Ephesians 6:4). When the youth of the church are not taught the importance of a vibrant and active relationship with God, then the church will see its ranks become thin and aged. With age comes wisdom and experience, but with youth comes energy and determination. In order for the church to be effective it must see youth ministry as a vital part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again there needs to be growth within the youth leaders as well as the teens. Parents are not exempt from this need either. Growth can be encouraged in a number of ways, but one that is critical for the believer is through the Word of God. 1 Peter 2:2 says that "As newborn babes[we ought to], desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby." The Bible needs to be the main source of where we draw our teaching and instruction for righteous living. We cannot rely completely on what we feel about our walk with God or else we fall in danger of heresy or incorrect thinking about the faith we possess. Doctrine from God's Word is what gives us the reason for why we do what we do and why we believe in what we believe. Therefore we must show our teens that God's Word is a perfect source for growth. Charles Spurgeon's comments fit perfectly the first two values I believe should be focused on in youth ministry. He has been recorded having said that "Bread is a second cause; the LORD Himself is the first source of our sustenance. He can work without the second cause as well as with it; and we must not tie Him down to one mode of operation." Galatians 5:13c says "by love serve one another." The last area that would be profitably applied as a principle for youth ministry is the area of service. Service is an essential part of any church's ministry and having teens learn to ... • 79. Purpose Of A Space For Youth Missions has always been, and continues to be, a cornerstone of my passion to serve. As I continue to look for the most impactful ways to support the causes that are most important to my ministry, I will take into account how to unify by second passion dear to my heart, children and youth with my desire to serve through mission. Missions is a service concerned with providing saving decrees to God's living children in our communities and throughout the world. It is a service that goes beyond the four walls of the church. I envision, from this stewardship effort, I can create a space for youth to transform their community, city, state and the world through mission. A world where young people are able to engage, embrace, and promote a prospering life that supports those they encounter through their service of mission. Today's youth are tomorrow's stewards and leaders. Thus, the purpose of this initiative is to build stewardship by connecting youth to mission through joyful practical application, knowledge from the experience they gain, and the actions they take to cultivate a healthy and thriving outlook to serve humanity. Essentially, so they may continue to support mission work in perpetuity. Purpose and Vision Mission today, is as it was with Timothy in the days of Paul. It was Paul who wrote to his young confidante, saying in 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV) 12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in ...
