NOVA Case Study Essay
Introduction Northern Virginia Community College's Extended Learning Institute offers over 300
courses in over 50 disciplines to more than 9000 students. In 2015, NOVA was recognized for
excellence as a top digital community college. Northern Virginia Community College offers over
thirteen fully online certificates and associate degrees as well as a number of student and
administrative services ("Why ELI? Online learning at NOVA's extended learning institute (ELI),"
2015). The Social and Professional Science Division offers courses in person, online as well as
hybrid courses. The Social and Professional Sciences Division at the Alexandria Campus has made a
commitment to "create active and engaging learning experiences that meet industry standards and
optimize student learning outcomes" ("Social and professional sciences division: Northern Virginia
Community college," 2016). To support this commitment, the Political Science department will be
implementing a weekly Politics and Government audio podcast to further engage students in their
studies. The podcast will be required for all students taking courses that fall under the political
science specialization. Students may be taking classes in person and using he podcast ... Show more

Additionally, the podcast will provide additional explanation and perspective on subject matter. By
interviewing subject matter experts in the podcast, students will be able to experience the real world

Term Control Essay
Clearly define the term control in the context of an organization. Give examples and lucid
explanation of the various types of control that can be used by a Manager. Why is the control
function so very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization?
According to Robbins & Coulter, "control refers to the process of monitoring, comparing and
correcting work performances."
The control process is a three step process of measuring actual performance, comparing actual
performance against a standard and taking managerial action to correct deviations or to address
inadequate standards.
The process assumes that performance standards already exist. For the most part they do as the
organization would have set goals and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A manager who has responsibility for cleaning would walk around to check the work done by
frontline staff and assign persons to areas not completed. Another example would be on an assembly
line where the manager can see the items before they are completed and correct any defects and
make any adjustments before the products are released for distribution.
Feedback control is the most popular type of control and as the name implies it relies on feedback.
With this concept control takes place after the activity is done. An example of this would be the
Toyota recall situation where based on feedback from customers (in the form of complaints), the
company sought to correct the problem after the product had reached the consumer. With this type
of control, there can be significant damage or wastage which can come at a high cost. However,
feedback control does have some advantages as it gives the manager valuable information or insight
into how effective the planning was. The manager can compare actual performance to planned
performance. If the variance is minor then it can be said that performance was on target. However if
the variance is major then the manager can use that information to implement or update his plans as
required.
The control function is therefore very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an
organization. As the final step in the management process, control

Application Of A Digital Certificate
Joel – Abstract: When one submits a request for information to a service, it being a HTTP or a
SOAP request SMTP or other protocols, one must ensure that the service is indeed the entity that it
claims to be (Rouse, 2013). In public key encryption, the verification of the public key origin is
especially important when one is submitting encrypted information over the internet which it may be
sensitive. Digital Certificates are the main method to verify identity of entities holding public keys
rendering services over the internet (Image 1) (Rouse, 2013). Image 1 – Accepting Connection
Image 1.2 Browser HTTPS connection with a valid certificate. Top Google Chrome, bottom IE 10
Image 2 – Refusing Connection A digital certificate has a series of properties including a date of
expiration (Gibson, 2014). When a certificate is minted, it has a day of which it will expire. When
the certificate expire, a new one will be minted. But if there is a certificate theft, the certificate will
be alive for the length of its life. The certificate owner will mint a new one, but there is another
certificate in the wild with equal legitimacy which can be used to falsify someone's identity (Gibson,
2014). A stolen certificate can be a danger to secure internet communication because a bad actor can
impersonate a legitimate entity and thus potentially stealing encrypted information (Gibson, 2014).
There isn't a good way to revoke certificates. This paper will analyze and study the best

Social Media And Its Effects On Social Networks
Facebook manipulates 690,000 users' news feeds
In 2012 social media site Facebook manipulated 690,000 news feeds as a part of a week–long
psychology experiment. The goal of the experiment was to find out if the information users received
through their timelines or news feeds could affect a person mood and whether could be passed on
without any physical interaction with other people. Adam D. I. Kramer, Jamie E. Guillory and
Jeffrey T. Hancock wrote an article entitled "Experimental evidence of massive–scale emotional
contagion through social networks" the results of the experiment stating that emotional state could
be transferred to other through emotional contagion, leading people to experience the same emotions

(Patterson & Wilkins, 2014, p. 54)The problem with theories like this is that they do not pass the
TARES ethical checklist. (Patterson & Wilkins, 2014, pp. 56–59) The TARES checklist stands for;
Truthfulness, Authentic, Respect, Equity and Socially and determines the ethical worthiness of a
message. Facebook manipulating thousands of user's newsfeeds does not pass the TARES test.
Though it may give truthful and authentic results from an equitable variety of examples, it does not
respect the people involved with the experiment because they are not aware that much of what they
are seeing is fabricated information to feel some type of emotion. This is something that Facebook
routinely does and when people were made aware of it, they were not happy posting their concerns
on social media. Privacy activist Laura tweeted, "I wonder if Facebook KILLED anyone with their
emotion manipulation stunt. "At their scale and with depressed people out there, it's possible."
(Wire, 2014)
Another ethical issue that arises is that Facebook now knows that they can persuade how a person
feels how do they use that information. In 2013 there was a controversial study published saying
that companies should tailor their marketing to women based on how they felt about their
appearance. The study showed that women were most vulnerable on Mondays and

Case Study : ' The Grizzly Bear Lodge '
1. Diane and Rudy Conrad own The Grizzly Bear Lodge, a 15 rooms lodge, located close to
Yellowstone National Park. The location is perfect because tourist can visit the park and make a stop
in their lodge to rest the night. The company has a good reputation among his customers thanks to
the quality of the service that they provided. This is the reason why they decide to expand their
business and diversify their activities mainly by buying the property next to their lodge and offering
entertaining activities in collaboration with local business such as rafting or hiking, for instance.
However, because it is a risky acquisition, the Conrads should study the market in order to ensure
that they will be able to keep the same high–quality service and increase their profits. Consequently,
they must have an efficient management in order to take the best decisions to make their company
grow.
First, Diane and Rudy can use feedforward because "aim is to prevent problems before they arise."
Consequently, they could "exert control by limiting activities in advance" (Bateman, Thomas S., and
Snell, Scott A, p.555). Therefore, they can establish a set of rules as well as describe procedures to
their employees, for instance. Thus, The Conrads can share easily their strategy as well as their
vision that they want to set up, avoiding any misunderstanding or confusion from their employees.
Secondly, the Conrads can use the concurrent control system which purpose is to ensure that the

Preparing and using milling machines
Note: Please type your answer in regular font.
1.)
What are the safe working practices and procedures to be followed when preparing and using the
milling machines?
When operating a Milling machine there are a lot of health and safety laws that have to be followed
when preparing to use and using a milling machine, the laws and safety precautions that must be
taken are as follows:
Gloves or hand wear must never be worn whilst working on a milling machine; any types of hand
wear like watches, bracelets and bangles could get snagged on the cutter and wind the operator into
the machine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coolant– coolant spills are a problem that can be prevented but on some mills there is a point where
coolant leaks from the bed and drip down hitting the floor around the machine this caused by a
blockage in the slots within the bed causing it to over flow with coolant creating a spillage.
Entanglement– the operator of the machine can risk entanglement from lose clothing becoming
entangled in the cutter this could wind the operator into the machine cutter causing serious injury.
Sharp edges – sharp edges or burrs are a hazard when handling the components it is possible to
injure yourself on these razor sharp burrs.
Training– If an operator has insufficient training then they are a danger to themselves and others
around the machine
3.)
What personal protective equipment needs to be worn for the milling activities?
There is several pieces of PPE equipment that must be work whilst milling, equipment is as follows:
Before work cream: This will stop irritations and protect the skin from infections from substances
being used whilst turning.
Safety glasses– protective eye wear must be worn since swarf and coolant is travelling and can be
flying in any direction.
Overalls– This stops flying swarf and coolant reaching your skin and causing damage or harm.
Safety boots– safety boots are of the main pieces of PPE, this will protect the feet from swarf and
coolant and there is a steel toe cap for protection against objects

The Novel ' Feed '
A Perfect Dystopia
The novel Feed by M.T. Anderson is about the dystopian future where the internet is constantly
feeding into the characters brains and is something that they ultimately cannot live without . Titus,
one of the main characters in the book, starts off on going on a trip to the moon with several of his
friends. The moon is a place that is advertised on the feed as this marvelous place to visit, full of
laughter, parties, loud music, and lights, but Titus views the moon as dull, lifeless and dismal. This
reveals Titus's personality, as he is coming to hook up with someone in the same intimate status as
himself. Which he meets a girl who he watches from a distance and concludes she is perfect. Her
name is Violet, and it turns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distinct parenting styles throughout Feed reveal how parental guidance impacts children 's
identity and emotional stability.
The lack of nourishment from their parents causes the children in feed to lose a sense of identity and
have a need for new consumer goods on the market. "Denied an education, the young people of
Feed are trained not as citizens but as consumers, while shadowy political forces seek to undermine
the corrupt world of the novel. In effect, then, the dystopian setting of feed is a state of emptiness
where the young are offered consumerism as a substitute for participation in citizenship" (Braddford
129). It is like today's new generations that are constantly on their phones; people cannot live
without them. Author Anne Marrie Hacht describes,"[I]n Feed, he turns his attention to a future that
any modern reader would recognize. Shopping is the rage. Television and computers are popular;
they are so popular, in fact, that everyone is equipped with a direct brain–connection to them at
birth" (1). The advertisements that are streamed on the feed twist the truth and draw the characters
away from reality. Titus receives a glimpse of reality when he travels to the moon, he says, "I
remember that in the banners looked goldy and sparkling, but as we walked down to the luggage, all
the air vents were streaked with black" (Anderson 8). However Violet, Titus's girlfriend, has a
different view on the world.

They Feed Lion
In poetry, one of the most powerful literary tools is the metaphor. It allows an author to add
dimension to the topic of their writing, in comparing their focus to something creative. This idea is
true for Philip Levine in his work, "They Feed They Lion." The metaphor of a lion provides
additional insight into Levine's stance on the topic of his poem. In "They Feed They Lion" by Philip
Levine, the use of a metaphor of a lion is used to demonstrate the potential power a group of
discriminated individuals can have, once they allow all that has wronged them to motivate them to
act. This metaphor is especially topical due to its reflection of race issues that were pertinent during
the time period when Levine completed this poem. From one's first ... Show more content on

Specifically, the pattern and frequency in which a lion roars. A lion roars only a few times a day; it is
not something that happens very often. Rising up and acting upon injustice is also something that is
infrequent. However, once both of these actions happen, they are difficult to ignore and not easily
forgotten. At some point, a lion must let out and roar, just as the discontent and mistreatment of a
group of people will eventually erupt into an uprising. Additionally, the anticipation of the roar can
garner a variety of different reactions, depending on the perspective of the person. These reactions
are often border lining on both fear and excitement. Similarly, these reactions are also common
when groups of people or individuals act upon their feelings of unrest. This is evident in the tone of
the poem. The quick and separated rhythm adds an underlying feeling of tension and anxiety as the
reader waits for They Lion to do more than grow. Also the idea that Levine refers to a lion as "they"
lion, referring to it as plural, indicates that the lion is representative of a group of individuals. A
group of individuals which looking at this poem through a historical context, can be identified as
African–Americans who participated in race riots in detroit during the

Essay on The Schermerhorn Control Process
Introduction: It is the methodology of observing, looking at and adjusting work execution. All
managers ought to be included in the control capacity regardless of the possibility that their units are
executing as arranged. Managers can't generally know whether their units are performing
appropriately until they have assessed what exercises have been carried out and have contrasted the
genuine execution and the coveted standard. A powerful control framework guarantees that
exercises are finished in ways that prompt the accomplishment of the association's objectives. The
paradigm that decides the adequacy of a control framework, then, is the means by which well it

Comparing: The thinking about step decides the level of variety between real execution and the

the satisfactory reach of variety. Deviations that surpass this reach get huge and need the manager's
consideration. In the correlation stage, managers are especially concerned with the size and course
of the variety. 3. Taking managerial action: Managers can choose between three courses of action:
they can do nothing, they can correct the actual performance or they can revise the standards. i.
Correct Actual Performance: Depending upon what the issue is a manager could take distinctive
remedial activities. Case in point, if unacceptable work is the explanation behind execution varieties,
the manager could adjust it by things, for example, preparing project, disciplinary movement,
changes in recompense practices and so forth. A manager who chooses to rectify correct
performance need to settle on an alternate choice: should prompt or essential curative move be
made? Prompt remedial activity amends issues without a moment's delay to get execution once

I believe that science fiction is definitely providing cautionary tales of our dependence on
technology. We can see examples of this in feed in the way it portrays dependence on technology in
our society. In the future, our Reliance on technology could lead us to a society much like "Feed's".
For example in the book feed, everyone is dependent on a technological brain implant called the
"Feed". It provides them with access to the internet, social media, communication, and
advertisements. This example in the book represents our dependence on smartphones. Everyone
seems to have one now in our society and it also provides us with communication and the internet.

Finding the time and resources to keep Twitter updated can often be a challenge for the average
business owner. So I 'm always on the look out for tools that can help with the process and take
away a lot of the grunt work.
One way to do this is through the use of RSS or content feeds. RSS stands for 'Really Simple
Syndication '. An RSS feed is basically a file containing syndicated content that 's readable by
software.
For example, most blogs have RSS feeds automatically built in (yourblog.com/feed if it 's on
WordPress), along with a lot of other sites such as YouTube and SlideShare.
This can make the use of RSS very useful in keeping your Twitter account updated with relevant
content, while leaving you free to make other updates, engage with your followers, and so on.
So how can you use RSS feeds to help power your Twitter account? Here are 3 different ways to
approach it.
1. IFTTT

Key Problems Associated With Titanium Machining And The...
Ezugwu and Wang (1997) presented a review on the main problems associated with titanium
machining, including tool wear and the mechanism responsible for tool failure. They suggest that
uncoated carbides (WC/Co) cutting tools are better than most coated cutting tools for machining a
titanium alloy. The high chemical reactivity of titanium causes welding of work–piece material on
the cutting tool during machining, leading to chipping and premature tool failure. The prominent
failure modes in titanium machining were: notching, flank wear, crater wear, chipping, and
catastrophic failure. Different tool materials have different response to different wear mechanism.
Crater wear is closely related to the chemical composition of the cutting tool. The conclusions
presented by this researcher, they suggest that dissolution–diffusion wear dominates on the rake and
flank face for uncoated cemented carbides used for the turning of titanium alloys. At very high
cutting speeds and temperatures, the conclusion is that plastic deformation and development of
cracks due to thermal shock will be the dominating wear mechanisms. Change of feed rate, depth of
cut or cutting speed give changes in the wear rates. They also suggest that cutting fluids have to be
used during titanium machining to minimize high stresses and temperatures. The cutting fluid has to
work both as coolant and lubricating agent to lower the cutting forces and avoid chip welding,
which is a phenomenon often experienced during

Evaluation Of A Student Outcomes
Part two: Summary of student outcomes
The evaluation of the students work was conducted with the end of year exams in mind. In
particular, I wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was targeted towards their
essay writing in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped results from what grades the students
gained against the marking schedule that I developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was
small, most students attained the merit grade, with the same amount of students being either side of
the merit grade with three respectively. This indicates that the work that is being achieved is at an
above average level, highlighted by no one failing the assessment. The evidence also suggests that
the students are on the way to excellence. With the feed–forward being provided there should be a
number of those students who should be attaining excellences in that class at the end of year mock

In terms of the specific feedback– forward itself. There were common trends that came through for
each grade. Figure two, outlines some common themes that came across for each student attaining
those grades. For the achieved level the, students were identifying the causes and consequences. The

Renewable Energy Through Feed On Tariffs And Taxes
Introduction
In recent years, more has been debated on whether or not nonrenewable energy such as fossil fuel
has caused global warming. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) believe fossil fuel is the likely reason that
temperatures have been rising from greenhouse gases, increasing the CO2 emissions (p. 1). With
depleting resources, it may be a good idea to look more seriously at renewable energy (Sakamoto &
Managi, 2016, p. 16). More governments have been trying to create policies to encourage usage of
renewable energy. However, it has been debated what is the best way to enforce renewable energy.
In this paper, I will discuss two ways countries have been encouraging renewable energy through
feed–in tariffs and taxes.

14). An increase in marginal cost of nonrenewable resources will drive more consumers to
renewable resources.
On the other hand, a tax on nonrenewable energy does not have the same effect. Sakamoto and
Managi (2016) discovered:
"The introduction of the tax on the nonrenewable energy sector leads to the reduction of
nonrenewable energy use and an acceleration of renewable energy use, but the acceleration is not
enough to keep the pre–tax level of production... because the marginal cost of renewable energy is
high as renewable energy use increases" (p. 15).
A tax on nonrenewable energy leads to an increase in marginal cost of renewable energy. Less
consumers were interested in buying when prices on renewable energy rose.
Another way governments have been trying to implement renewable energy is through feed–in
tariffs. Feed–in tariffs usually consist of some type of purchase obligation and also a tariff payment
on renewable energy that is fixed for every unit of electricity (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The grid
operator involved in the purchase obligation must buy the renewable electricity no matter what
(Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The producer has the right to a certain amount of money for every unit of
electricity that they produce (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43).
Jacobs (2012) conducted studies in Europe in the countries of Germany, Spain, and France that use

Speech: Feed The Children
Did you know that 20 percent of children in the United States under eighteen years of age are
hungry? Consider for a moment the amount of money that you as a college student spend in a single
day on food alone. Did you know that 1.3 billion people worldwide live on less than one dollar a
day? Have you ever volunteered your time to help the hungry? When some students think of
volunteering, they focus on the benefits that it brings to their standing in a school organization or the
status it earns them on their résumé rather than thinking about how important it is to help those less
fortunate than they are. However, even if people choose to ignore the hunger problem in our world,
one organization has dared to bridge the gap between the impoverished and those unaware of these
circumstances. That organization is Feed the Children. Though I don't volunteer often, I have been

Feed Essay On Technology
In the novel Feed written by M.T. Anderson, the futuristic world the novel is set in a continually
evolving and the characters are overcoming challenges in the technological society. This book
focuses on the deteriorating world due to technological advances. The most important technological
advancement is the "feed" that the corporations in the future will create. The "feed" contributes to
how people participate in everyday activities. Only people who can afford one are able to have a
"feed" implant. It is a parallel to today's modern use of technology and cellular devices. Titus, the
protagonist, is a teenager that comes from a wealthy family and is he grows up extremely privileged.

The "feed" corporation preferred people to have the device implanted into the brain as a baby
because the brain was still developing and changing which allowed the brain to grow properly with
the feed. When Violet was young her mom left her father and Violet's father had to get by with very
little and also care for Violet. Violet's dad finally saves up the money to afford a "feed" for her.
Violet communication skills are more ingenious due to growing up in a different atmosphere. She
met Titus while on the moon and they grew closer. Later, Titus meets her father and when Violet and
Titus were leaving, he looked at her and says, "I didn't understand a single thing he said" (Anderson
137). Titus grew up exposed to relying on the "feed" for many ways of communicating. When
Violet's father spoke with a broad vocabulary, Titus did not know what he was attempting to say to
him due to the "feed" manipulating the English language to be as simple as possible. In Gooding's
article about the novel Feed, he perceives Violet's father as being the "most acutely aware of the
interplay of technological and economic forces that has turned America into a nation of impatient
adolescents" (Gooding). Gooding is implying that Violet's father has lived without a "feed" his
entire life and over the years he has observed how it has impacted the younger generations and how
the technology is dominating society and daily living.

computers. As most restrictively defined, electronic commerce is the buying and selling of goods
and services, and the transfer of funds, through digital communications. However EC also includes
all inter–company and intra–company functions (such as marketing, finance, manufacturing, selling,
and negotiation) that enable commerce and use electronic mail, EDI, file transfer, fax, video
conferencing, workflow, or interaction with a remote computer.
Electronic commerce also includes buying and selling over the Web, electronic funds transfer, smart
cards, digital cash (e.g. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, E–commerce is also considerably fast and means that the business will be more efficient.
Furthermore, saves costs, as the business does not have the costs associated with running the
business. They do not have to pay for such things as lighting, electricity, and fittings.
With ecommerce the user has the ability to search for their product without having to look around
shops in a time consuming manner. In fact the information is at their finger tips and can be accessed
within minutes without even having to leave your home unlike shopping on the high street.
There are also many disadvantages to ecommerce and these are mainly to do with the exchanging of
information over the internet and the security measures that this entails. Every time a transaction is
made, it is often a credit card number that is submitted over the
Internet. There are many consumers today that still refrain from the practice for fear of a third party
obtaining their card numbers or other personal information
Also, as the internet is accessed by millions and possibly billions of people every day the
information that is exchanged can be accessed by people who know how to, this information can be
protected with the use of certain software and the advice of people who are experienced in this field,
but this costs money and more than often small companies who have tight profit margins do not
always give the customers the protection that they

ABSTRACT In this paper we are going to illustrate a way to cluster similar news articles based on
their term frequency. We will using python and nltk to recognize keywords and subsequently using
hierarchical clustering algorithm. This method can be used to build news aggregation backends.
Aggregation means clustering like documents from different sources. There is fast moving data and
heterogeneity of sources in news aggregation scenarios. We need to remove the duplicates arising
due to heterogeneous sources. General Terms Hierarchical clustering, algorithms, aggregation, news,
text mining et al. Keywords Python, nltk, feedparser, news aggregation. 1. INTRODUCTION News
Aggregators can be considered a multilateral platform of interconnection [1]. In principle, news
aggregators can be a substitute or a complement to the news outlets who invest in the creation of
news stories. A policy debate centers around the decrease in the incentives for news creation that
results if readers choose to consume their news through aggregators without clicking through to the
news websites or generating any revenue for the outlets [2]. Getting these two ideas in perspective
our ideas is to get a small script in python which anyone can run on their own

Consumerism In Feed

Media and Consumerism in Feed
"The media's the most powerful entity on earth." (Malcolm X). In Feed by M.T. Anderson, this
proves to be true Sometime in the future, Titus and his friends are just having fun while using their
feeds; a new invention which is like having a computer installed in one's head, but with the feed,
people get advertisements. The advertisements begin to slowly take over the brain, causing people to
become practically brainwashed. When Violet meets Titus and his friends on the moon, she also has
the feed, but it only was installed when she was seven, instead of at birth. Violet is different from
Titus and his friends because she understands the negative effects that go along with having the
feed. In M.T. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is able to dictate people's spending trends through media and consumerism, which allows the
corporations to control the entire lives of those who have the feed. According to Titus, the feed "...
knows everything you want and hope for, sometimes before you even know what those things are. It
can tell you how to get them, and help you make buying decisions that are hard." (Anderson 48)
Titus continues his thought by explaining how: "Everything we think and feel is taken in by the
corporations, mainly by data ones like Feedlink and OnFeed and American Feedware, and they
make a special profile, one that's keyed just to you...so all you have to do is want something and
there's a chance it will be yours." (Anderson 48) Teenagers of that generation think it's normal that
the corporations know exactly what they want and when they want it. This is a form of wish
granting, the teenagers treat the corporations as the providers of what they need or what they could
need. The companies are able to control everyone through the feed yet people don't even realize this.
The feed makes them think it was their idea to buy the items, but in reality it is the corporations who
convince them. This is comparable to a genie who not only grants wishes, comes up with the wishes,
but is able to convince its 'master' that they came up with the wish. The scariest aspect of this book
is that it is very similar to the world of

Feed, A Futuristic Novel
Feed, a futuristic novel by M.T. Anderson, left me feeling disturbed about the faults in perfection. In
a society completely ruled by technology, most of the country has a chip implanted in their brain
since birth that acts as a phone, computer, television, and more, which known as "the feed." The
feed allows people to chat using just their connected brains, watch television programs, play games,
order goods, and research any topic. From the start, I recognized that this was a scary concept,
because it meant that website owners and product producers had access to one's thoughts,
preferences, and personality. What made this book so eerie was that I could experience what it
would be like to have a constant voice in my head, directing me to ... Show more content on

Because of the feed, with everyone having access to whatever they please already in their brain,
everyone is smart, and no one has to work for it. There is mass danger in this concept. If everyone is
smart, no one is smart, because no one knows more than anyone else, and no one stands out. It's like
if you were to highlight everything in an article. If you did that, nothing would be important
anymore. This is what the feed does. It is run by companies who search everyone's brains, and create
products that will appeal to everyone. In order to do that, the companies need to make a very simple
product everyone can enjoy, slowly deteriorating difference, and slowly making everyone simpler
people. In light of what the novel stresses: that making things too easy for humans will ruin the
meaning for their existence, the author creates a character essential to get this point across. Violet,
Titus' girlfriend, was different from Titus and his friends. She grew up with less money than them,
and with parents against the feed from the start. However, she eventually got the feed, only to run
into problems when a hacker damages it permanently. Violet, unlike Titus, understands that
companies running the feed were slowly abusing their power to create products they know will have
mass appeal. Violet resists this, trying to create a personality profile that cannot fit in with the norms
of the feed. Later, when Violet's feed, which has latched on

Bottle Feed Infants
Summary of Findings Researchers had hypothesized that bottle fed infants were over fed more
rather than their breast fed counterparts. So a study was conducted to see whether or not the infants
who were bottle fed turned out to be heavier in weight than those who were breast fed. In order to
conduct such a study twenty–one mothers had signed up for the testing of their infants. Within the
study the mothers feed their infants the normal ways they would feed them at home and then the
ways the researchers had wanted them to feed them. With the results that the researchers got back
from the study they were able to calculate that the infant's intake and rate of feeding could account
for the obesity within the infants.

The Importance Of Technology In Feed
In the futuristic world M.T Anderson creates in Feed, the misuse of technology is a problem the
world faces. The novel Feed describes how the world could be in the future if humans let technology
rule their lives. Anderson wants the reader to realize the effect technology has on our lives, and he
also wants us to understand how we are being controlled and manipulated by media. Therefore,
Anderson, fearing that one day technology will surpass humanity by creating a society of idiots like
in the novel Feed, warns the reader from the future our society might face if we don't make a change
soon.
The novel describes scenarios of the world where we live. For example: people are becoming less
intelligent because technology is dominating the human race. Moreover, One major theme is how
technology, including media and advertising, ruins the future. Since the feed is in the teenagers'
head, they live and die by the feed. Everything they want is
Instantaneous. They no longer have a reason to think as individuals and increase there
Intelligence. Instead, they are content with having technology do everything for them.
They cannot even read or write because everything they need is done by the feed. In
School, teenagers learn about the feed, how to find the best bargains, how to get a job and how to
decorate their rooms. Regular subjects such as literature and math are not in School. The constant
advertisements running through their heads also ruin the future of the human race.

Grizzly Bear Lodge Mini Case
"Grizzly Bear Lodge Mini Case"
Located outside of the beautiful Yellowstone Park is the Grizzly Bear Lodge. Owned by Diane and
Rudy Conrad, Grizzly Bear Lodge has 15 rooms that can accommodate up 40 guests with some
rooms specially setup for families. It is a seasonal company, which operates from April to November
and the busy tourist season starting in May and ending in September. An opportunity has surfaced
which will allow Diane and Rudy the ability to expand by purchasing the property next door. The
purpose of this paper is to show how now and in the future Grizzly Bear Lodge can ensure guest
satisfaction, what budget considerations can be taken for the expansion and how market controls can
implement their expansion. Using the bureaucratic control approaches is beneficial for the Grizzly
Bear Lodge. These approaches will outline problems Grizzly Bear Lodge face if Diane and Rudy
expand and purchase the next–door property. Allowing Diane and Rudy the ability to consider the
pros and cons of the expansion and also fix problems they currently have.
The first approach is feedforward control, which takes place before operations begin and include
policies, procedures, and rules designed to ensure that planned activities are carried out properly
(Bateman Snell). Feedforward controls help managers by allowing them managers to plan

The first time Titus saw Violet he fell in love. He met her on the moon in a bar/club. That night she
was wearing a grey woolen dress. That same night Tirus wanted to be with her. He would do
anything just to make that happen. On page 25 Titus says "I started to want more than anything else
that night, to be with her" (Anderson 25). That quote reveals that he was falling in love with Violet.
He wanted her to be his. That night he wanted to be with her and only her. He didn't want anyone or
anything else that night. He just wanted to spend the whole night with Violet. By the time the novel
was ending Titus changed a lot. When they were kissing he thought he was kissing a zombie. By this
time they were making out in a hotel room. Titus stopped loving Violet. He didn't feel anything
when she kissed him. On page 269 Titus even tells Violet "It feels like being felt up by a zombie,
okay?" (Anderson 269). Titus didn't love her like he did before. After finding out that she was going
to die soon he lost interest in her. He didn't enjoy kissing her like he did before just because he
already thought that she was dead. He thought he was kissing a zombie. That was one of the main

Case Study : ' The Quaint Grizzly Bear Lodge '
The quaint Grizzly Bear Lodge just outside of Yellow National Park has been operating efficiently
and effectively for years with a focus on service excellence and employee empowerment. The
owners, Diane and Rudy Conrad have an opportunity to expand their business by purchasing the
property next door. This expansion would more than double their current size as well as expenses
and staffing. While this is a potential exciting time in their business, careful thought will have to be
used in the planning, control and financial management of the expansion. The Conrad's have been
positively using clan control in the management of their lodge. Clan control is based on the idea that
employees may share the values, expectations, and goals of the organization and act in accordance
with them. (Bateman/Snell 529). Whether intentional or not, this type of organizational control
provides strong empowerment, engagement and loyalty among their employees. They feel as though
they provide high levels of customer satisfaction to their guests with this type of management.
Losing this personal touch is a concern as they consider expansion. While the Conrad's will not
likely engage in bureaucratic control of their business, they will benefit from the practices that come
from feedforward control, concurrent control and feedback control as they evaluate their new
venture. As part of their planning process, a customer service survey of their previous guests would

Apart from the regular packing use, Multihead weigher has proven to be beneficial for several
industries that are in the market. The various benefits that can obtained by using the Multihead
weigher includes,
 Multihead weighers are being used for filling the products into separate bags. Instead of filling
the bags manually by weighing the product every single time, you can simply use the Multihead
weigher. At a time, more than 20 bags can be filled with the product and all at the same weight or
volume.
 Multihead weigher gives you an opportunity to mix in more than 8 single components at the same
time using the feed hopper. This is true when the company needs to mix the breakfast mix that
contains hazelnuts, raisins, oats and other cereals.
 This Multihead weigher can be used when you need to place the items onto trays without spilling
any of the components. All the sticky and the greasy food items tend to splash out to the
surroundings when they are placed on the trays manually.

Feed By Anderson
Zbigniew Brzezinski once said "no matter how deeply disturbing the thought of using environment
to manipulate behavior for national advantages to some, the technology permitting such use will
very probably develop within the next few decades" Throughout the years, humans have seen a
significant amount of technology advancements and its implication for human beings and the
environment. M.T. Anderson's novel "Feed" gives readers a representation of ing aa future dystopian
world, one in which technology is not just around us but implanted inside our heads. Anderson
draws parallels between our society and that of the feed which creates an ominous warning for our
own society. The environment turns into a disaster due to how rapidly technology is advancing. Has
technology's rapid advancement allowed humans to produce meat without having animals? This is
represented in the chapter "A Day in the Country," when Titus and Violet visit a "filet mignon farm"
(Anderson, page 142). A farm that has no livestock but instead has plantations ... Show more content

The world of the feed is infected with so much radiation in the atmosphere that humans are not
allowed to reproduce children through sexual intercourse. A couple's genes are no longer needed to

mom describes what she told the "we want him with my nose and his dad's eyes, and for the rest, we
have this picture of DelGlacey Murdoch'" (Anderson, page 116). In today's society there are
different ways to have kids through surrogates or embryos.
Either in the world of the feed or in real life, technology has separated humans from connecting with
nature. As a result, humans have become the consumers instead of being the receiver. Just like the

How would your point of view be affected by the society you live in? Many different characters
have different point of views of the society that the story "The Feed" takes place in. The society
Violet lives in affects her point of view because after Violet had the malfunction in which she lost

inferences which support my thesis statement. Have you ever just wanted to live life to the fullest?
In the first inference that I have made, Violet expresses her need to live life to the fullest. In

inference states that Violet wants to live life to the fullest.

'Feed' is the scary, but inevitable course that our society is heading on. People have stopped utilizing
their technology, and have started to let corporations use them through their technology.
Corporations constantly monitor our use of technology and the internet, in order to better understand
us and market their product to us. We live in a capitalistic society, where money means everything,
and people mean nothing. People are only more numbers, which need to be computed to provide the
maximum possible profit. Our current state is not far from 'Feed'. In 'Feed', advertisements are

People need to stop being used by their technology and start using it for themselves once again.
Without the proper use of technology in our past, it is likely that we would have reached the earth's
carrying capacity by now. Without technological advancements in agriculture and food production,
we would be left with not nearly enough food on earth to support all 7.125 billion of us. Though,
most people probably wouldn't rank the steel plow of greater technological importance than the
iPhone. This is because an iPhone, or a computer, does have a very immense capability to help
people, if used correctly. The internet, for example, can be a way to access a vast amount of
information from all over the world, from the beginning of written history until now. The issue is
that a greater portion of the internet is dedicated to porn, funny cat videos, and advertisements that
constantly lead you to a new ".com", to buy into a new product. People need to see past the games
that we play as a society, so that they can use technology to their, and everyone else's, advantage. It
is amazing that in 'Feed' they can travel to Moon or even Mars on vacation. This technological
advancement was taken for granted by Titus and his friends in 'Feed', but this ability for space travel
carries huge possibilities for discovery. M. T. Anderson must have felt there was going

ABSTRACT
Adding exogenous enzymes to poultry feed is now a very common necessity in the agricultural
industry as a result of its commercial, environmental and animal benefits. Birds are mono–gastric
animals, therefore, their endogenous enzymes, working alone, are unable to digest most nutrients in
their corn–SBM based diets, hence the need for exogenous enzymes. These enzymes when added to
poultry feed helps with the digestion of phytate or phytic acids, polysaccharides like; xylans and
beta–glucans. They also allow maximum retention of nutrients required by the bird, reduce intestinal
viscosity, improve faecal moisture, enhance intestina bacterial proliferation, and improve growth. In
short, enzymes are

Facebook: Our Technological Human Web Essay
What is it about Facebook that is so intriguing? It drives bosses and professors crazy as subordinates
peruse profiles, notes and pictures of their friends and friends of friends instead of doing the tasks at

a public forum? Perhaps our intrigue is really fueled by the framework, multimedia elements, and
multifacetedness of our profiles, which promote our narcissism in a socially acceptable public
medium. Facebook's framework makes it all about us, under the message of connectivity. The

you may wonder what are people seeing about you in their news feed as well. Therefore, we make

  • 3. Term Control Essay Clearly define the term control in the context of an organization. Give examples and lucid explanation of the various types of control that can be used by a Manager. Why is the control function so very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization? According to Robbins & Coulter, "control refers to the process of monitoring, comparing and correcting work performances." The control process is a three step process of measuring actual performance, comparing actual performance against a standard and taking managerial action to correct deviations or to address inadequate standards. The process assumes that performance standards already exist. For the most part they do as the organization would have set goals and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A manager who has responsibility for cleaning would walk around to check the work done by frontline staff and assign persons to areas not completed. Another example would be on an assembly line where the manager can see the items before they are completed and correct any defects and make any adjustments before the products are released for distribution. Feedback control is the most popular type of control and as the name implies it relies on feedback. With this concept control takes place after the activity is done. An example of this would be the Toyota recall situation where based on feedback from customers (in the form of complaints), the company sought to correct the problem after the product had reached the consumer. With this type of control, there can be significant damage or wastage which can come at a high cost. However, feedback control does have some advantages as it gives the manager valuable information or insight into how effective the planning was. The manager can compare actual performance to planned performance. If the variance is minor then it can be said that performance was on target. However if the variance is major then the manager can use that information to implement or update his plans as required. The control function is therefore very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization. As the final step in the management process, control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Application Of A Digital Certificate Joel – Abstract: When one submits a request for information to a service, it being a HTTP or a SOAP request SMTP or other protocols, one must ensure that the service is indeed the entity that it claims to be (Rouse, 2013). In public key encryption, the verification of the public key origin is especially important when one is submitting encrypted information over the internet which it may be sensitive. Digital Certificates are the main method to verify identity of entities holding public keys rendering services over the internet (Image 1) (Rouse, 2013). Image 1 – Accepting Connection Image 1.2 Browser HTTPS connection with a valid certificate. Top Google Chrome, bottom IE 10 Image 2 – Refusing Connection A digital certificate has a series of properties including a date of expiration (Gibson, 2014). When a certificate is minted, it has a day of which it will expire. When the certificate expire, a new one will be minted. But if there is a certificate theft, the certificate will be alive for the length of its life. The certificate owner will mint a new one, but there is another certificate in the wild with equal legitimacy which can be used to falsify someone's identity (Gibson, 2014). A stolen certificate can be a danger to secure internet communication because a bad actor can impersonate a legitimate entity and thus potentially stealing encrypted information (Gibson, 2014). There isn't a good way to revoke certificates. This paper will analyze and study the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Media And Its Effects On Social Networks Facebook manipulates 690,000 users' news feeds In 2012 social media site Facebook manipulated 690,000 news feeds as a part of a week–long psychology experiment. The goal of the experiment was to find out if the information users received through their timelines or news feeds could affect a person mood and whether could be passed on without any physical interaction with other people. Adam D. I. Kramer, Jamie E. Guillory and Jeffrey T. (Patterson & Wilkins, 2014, pp. 56–59) The TARES checklist stands for; Truthfulness, Authentic, Respect, Equity and Socially and determines the ethical worthiness of a message. Facebook manipulating thousands of user's newsfeeds does not pass the TARES test. Though it may give truthful and authentic results from an equitable variety of examples, it does not respect the people involved with the experiment because they are not aware that much of what they are seeing is fabricated information to feel some type of emotion. This is something that Facebook routinely does and when people were made aware of it, they were not happy posting their concerns on social media. Privacy activist Laura tweeted, "I wonder if Facebook KILLED anyone with their emotion manipulation stunt. "At their scale and with depressed people out there, it's possible." (Wire, 2014) Another ethical issue that arises is that Facebook now knows that they can persuade how a person feels how do they use that information. The location is perfect because tourist can visit the park and make a stop in their lodge to rest the night. The company has a good reputation among his customers thanks to the quality of the service that they provided. This is the reason why they decide to expand their business and diversify their activities mainly by buying the property next to their lodge and offering entertaining activities in collaboration with local business such as rafting or hiking, for instance. However, because it is a risky acquisition, the Conrads should study the market in order to ensure that they will be able to keep the same high–quality service and increase their profits. Consequently, they must have an efficient management in order to take the best decisions to make their company grow. First, Diane and Rudy can use feedforward because "aim is to prevent problems before they arise." Consequently, they could "exert control by limiting activities in advance" (Bateman, Thomas S., and Snell, Scott A, p.555). Anderson is about the dystopian future where the internet is constantly feeding into the characters brains and is something that they ultimately cannot live without . Titus, one of the main characters in the book, starts off on going on a trip to the moon with several of his friends. The moon is a place that is advertised on the feed as this marvelous place to visit, full of laughter, parties, loud music, and lights, but Titus views the moon as dull, lifeless and dismal. This reveals Titus's personality, as he is coming to hook up with someone in the same intimate status as himself. Which he meets a girl who he watches from a distance and concludes she is perfect. • 18. They Feed Lion In poetry, one of the most powerful literary tools is the metaphor. It allows an author to add dimension to the topic of their writing, in comparing their focus to something creative. This idea is true for Philip Levine in his work, "They Feed They Lion." The metaphor of a lion provides additional insight into Levine's stance on the topic of his poem. In "They Feed They Lion" by Philip Levine, the use of a metaphor of a lion is used to demonstrate the potential power a group of discriminated individuals can have, once they allow all that has wronged them to motivate them to act. This metaphor is especially topical due to its reflection of race issues that were pertinent during the time period when Levine completed this poem. From one's first ... Rising up and acting upon injustice is also something that is infrequent. However, once both of these actions happen, they are difficult to ignore and not easily forgotten. At some point, a lion must let out and roar, just as the discontent and mistreatment of a group of people will eventually erupt into an uprising. Additionally, the anticipation of the roar can garner a variety of different reactions, depending on the perspective of the person. These reactions are often border lining on both fear and excitement. Similarly, these reactions are also common when groups of people or individuals act upon their feelings of unrest. This is evident in the tone of the poem. The quick and separated rhythm adds an underlying feeling of tension and anxiety as the reader waits for They Lion to do more than grow. Also the idea that Levine refers to a lion as "they" lion, referring to it as plural, indicates that the lion is representative of a group of individuals. A group of individuals which looking at this poem through a historical context, can be identified as African–Americans who participated in race riots in detroit during the ... We can see examples of this in feed in the way it portrays dependence on technology in our society. In the future, our Reliance on technology could lead us to a society much like "Feed's". For example in the book feed, everyone is dependent on a technological brain implant called the "Feed". It provides them with access to the internet, social media, communication, and advertisements. • 28. Key Problems Associated With Titanium Machining And The... Ezugwu and Wang (1997) presented a review on the main problems associated with titanium machining, including tool wear and the mechanism responsible for tool failure. They suggest that uncoated carbides (WC/Co) cutting tools are better than most coated cutting tools for machining a titanium alloy. The high chemical reactivity of titanium causes welding of work–piece material on the cutting tool during machining, leading to chipping and premature tool failure. The prominent failure modes in titanium machining were: notching, flank wear, crater wear, chipping, and catastrophic failure. Different tool materials have different response to different wear mechanism. Crater wear is closely related to the chemical composition of the cutting tool. The conclusions presented by this researcher, they suggest that dissolution–diffusion wear dominates on the rake and flank face for uncoated cemented carbides used for the turning of titanium alloys. At very high cutting speeds and temperatures, the conclusion is that plastic deformation and development of cracks due to thermal shock will be the dominating wear mechanisms. Change of feed rate, depth of cut or cutting speed give changes in the wear rates. They also suggest that cutting fluids have to be used during titanium machining to minimize high stresses and temperatures. The cutting fluid has to work both as coolant and lubricating agent to lower the cutting forces and avoid chip welding, which is a phenomenon often experienced during ... In particular, I wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was targeted towards their essay writing in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped results from what grades the students gained against the marking schedule that I developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was small, most students attained the merit grade, with the same amount of students being either side of the merit grade with three respectively. This indicates that the work that is being achieved is at an above average level, highlighted by no one failing the assessment. The evidence also suggests that the students are on the way to excellence. With the feed–forward being provided there should be a number of those students who should be attaining excellences in that class at the end of year mock exams. In terms of the specific feedback– forward itself. There were common trends that came through for each grade. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) believe fossil fuel is the likely reason that temperatures have been rising from greenhouse gases, increasing the CO2 emissions (p. 1). With depleting resources, it may be a good idea to look more seriously at renewable energy (Sakamoto & Managi, 2016, p. 16). More governments have been trying to create policies to encourage usage of renewable energy. However, it has been debated what is the best way to enforce renewable energy. In this paper, I will discuss two ways countries have been encouraging renewable energy through feed–in tariffs and taxes. Body Sakamoto and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 14). An increase in marginal cost of nonrenewable resources will drive more consumers to renewable resources. On the other hand, a tax on nonrenewable energy does not have the same effect. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) discovered: "The introduction of the tax on the nonrenewable energy sector leads to the reduction of nonrenewable energy use and an acceleration of renewable energy use, but the acceleration is not enough to keep the pre–tax level of production... because the marginal cost of renewable energy is high as renewable energy use increases" (p. 15). A tax on nonrenewable energy leads to an increase in marginal cost of renewable energy. Less consumers were interested in buying when prices on renewable energy rose. Another way governments have been trying to implement renewable energy is through feed–in tariffs. Feed–in tariffs usually consist of some type of purchase obligation and also a tariff payment on renewable energy that is fixed for every unit of electricity (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The grid operator involved in the purchase obligation must buy the renewable electricity no matter what (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The producer has the right to a certain amount of money for every unit of electricity that they produce (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). Consider for a moment the amount of money that you as a college student spend in a single day on food alone. Did you know that 1.3 billion people worldwide live on less than one dollar a day? Have you ever volunteered your time to help the hungry? When some students think of volunteering, they focus on the benefits that it brings to their standing in a school organization or the status it earns them on their résumé rather than thinking about how important it is to help those less fortunate than they are. However, even if people choose to ignore the hunger problem in our world, one organization has dared to bridge the gap between the impoverished and those unaware of these circumstances. That organization is Feed the Children. • 61. Case Study : ' The Quaint Grizzly Bear Lodge ' The quaint Grizzly Bear Lodge just outside of Yellow National Park has been operating efficiently and effectively for years with a focus on service excellence and employee empowerment. The owners, Diane and Rudy Conrad have an opportunity to expand their business by purchasing the property next door. This expansion would more than double their current size as well as expenses and staffing. While this is a potential exciting time in their business, careful thought will have to be used in the planning, control and financial management of the expansion. The Conrad's have been positively using clan control in the management of their lodge. Clan control is based on the idea that employees may share the values, expectations, and goals of the organization and act in accordance with them. (Bateman/Snell 529). Whether intentional or not, this type of organizational control provides strong empowerment, engagement and loyalty among their employees. They feel as though they provide high levels of customer satisfaction to their guests with this type of management. Losing this personal touch is a concern as they consider expansion. While the Conrad's will not likely engage in bureaucratic control of their business, they will benefit from the practices that come from feedforward control, concurrent control and feedback control as they evaluate their new venture. As part of their planning process, a customer service survey of their previous guests would provide them with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Feed By Anderson Zbigniew Brzezinski once said "no matter how deeply disturbing the thought of using environment to manipulate behavior for national advantages to some, the technology permitting such use will very probably develop within the next few decades" Throughout the years, humans have seen a significant amount of technology advancements and its implication for human beings and the environment. M.T. Anderson's novel "Feed" gives readers a representation of ing aa future dystopian world, one in which technology is not just around us but implanted inside our heads. Anderson draws parallels between our society and that of the feed which creates an ominous warning for our own society. The environment turns into a disaster due to how rapidly technology is advancing. Has technology's rapid advancement allowed humans to produce meat without having animals? This is represented in the chapter "A Day in the Country," when Titus and Violet visit a "filet mignon farm" (Anderson, page 142). A farm that has no livestock but instead has plantations ... In today's society there are different ways to have kids through surrogates or embryos. Either in the world of the feed or in real life, technology has separated humans from connecting with nature. As a result, humans have become the consumers instead of being the receiver. Just like the synthetic meat humans become artificial. Technology, as Anderson describes, has become an "end of ... People have stopped utilizing their technology, and have started to let corporations use them through their technology. Corporations constantly monitor our use of technology and the internet, in order to better understand us and market their product to us. We live in a capitalistic society, where money means everything, and people mean nothing. People are only more numbers, which need to be computed to provide the maximum possible profit. Without the proper use of technology in our past, it is likely that we would have reached the earth's carrying capacity by now. Without technological advancements in agriculture and food production, we would be left with not nearly enough food on earth to support all 7.125 billion of us. Though, most people probably wouldn't rank the steel plow of greater technological importance than the iPhone. This is because an iPhone, or a computer, does have a very immense capability to help people, if used correctly. The internet, for example, can be a way to access a vast amount of information from all over the world, from the beginning of written history until now. The issue is that a greater portion of the internet is dedicated to porn, funny cat videos, and advertisements that constantly lead you to a new ".com", to buy into a new product. People need to see past the games that we play as a society, so that they can use technology to their, and everyone else's, advantage.
