3. Stereotypical
Weapons
within thrillers
Gun
This is a quick was or killing the
victim or the killer.
Knife
This is a slow killing death,
and is usually shown with
a close up shot, when the
victim is defending
themselves.
Fire and oil
Usually done to get rid of evidence or
purposely kill or torture someone.
Rope
This is usually used to tie the
victim up and is usually linked
with other weapons such as a
gun, so the victim can’t get
away.
4. Sinister
Our thriller opening is very similar to the film Sinister because the male character,
Ellison moves into a new house with his wife and family. This is similar to our
storyline because in our thriller, the older girl moves into her new house on her own.
The difference here is that in our thriller we are going against the stereotypes as
women are seen to be passive but in our thriller, the older girl is seen to be dominant
and strong. In our thriller, the girl finds old photos and diaries in a box in the cellar.
This links to the film Sinister because the man finds footage of people being
murdered in his attic. There is the theme of isolation shown in both of these thrillers
because they are both moving into an isolated, detached house.
The costume that the male character Ellison wears links to the
costume our main character wears as they are both wearing
casual dark clothing. By them wearing dark clothing is could
represent that something bad is going to happen or is
happening.
