2. A Trip to the Moon
1902
• This is a George Méliès film which was filmed back in the 1902. This
was one of the first film to use editing. George Melies started out as a
illusionist but was inspired by the Lumiere brothers when he saw The
arrival of the train.
3. Editing camera
• In the first 48 seconds the actors are holding telescopes because they are going to the moon.
Then at 50 seconds a jump cut is used and they are now holding chairs. A way George Melies used
jump cut is my pausing the camera and giving each of the characters in the front row a chair then
restarting the scene from there.
5. Special effects
• The special effects Melies used is adding colour to his films. He did
this by using a paint brush and colouring in the actual film. This was
an early form of special effects.
6. Special effects
• For this scene Melies he mounted the moon on a machine and moved
it closer and closer to the camera. For the space ship he stop the
camera and spaded it over the moon and rolled the camera.
