The early film studios and films are discussed. Thomas Edison created the Black Maria studio in 1893 to produce film strips for the Kinetoscope. The Lumiere brothers held the first film screening in 1895, showing actuality films including Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory. Their film The Sprinkler Sprinkled was the earliest fiction film and comedy. Georges Melies also made non-actuality films using early special effects and was known for films like A Trip to the Moon, filming in his glass-covered studio.
