2. Common Stereotypes of RnB is firstly that it is mostly aimed
Towards Black males. This stereotype has became the norm
Because of the dominant female and male Black artists such as
Beyoncé, Drake etc. There isn’t many/any big white RnB artists currently.
Common Stereotypes of RnB fashion of Artists is that females wear glamourous,
shiny dresses and classy jewellery such as big golden hoops, necklaces
And rings. Makeup which the female artists wear is very bold around the eyes,
these colours such as black, red and gold which is usually part of their makeup
represent RnB as a whole, makeup is used to create the male gaze which attracts
the RnB audience of Males. Their hair is usually always styled whether this be
straight, curly or volume has been given. The males usually wear dark clothing
which includes pieces of gold in the outfit. They usually are always seen with a
cap and sometimes shades. Both female and males in their music videos are made
to be seen as quite independent and powerful, this would be described
matriarchle for women or patriarchle for men.
3. In my research and planning I found out Rhythm and blues is a genre of
popular African-American music that originated in the 1940s which
would be the development of the stereotype of black people liking RnB.
In the 1980s, a new style of RnB was formed, it was known as
Contemporary RnB. It combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul,
funk, pop, hip hop and dance. Known musicians the in 2000’s consisted
of Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and
Mariah Carey. All of these artists enforce the stereotype of black people
liking the genre of RnB
4. In my magazine I have chosen to break the stereotypes of RnB and
Target my magazine at the social group of teenage white people of both
genders. I have done this by including no black RnB artists but
However all white. This will make my audience be able to put
Themselves in these artists shoes, they will also be able to relate
To these artists. I have however still tried to go for the dark clothing
For both male and females which is a representation of RnB.
As for the females, I have gone for the common dark and bold makeup
As shown on the females lips and eyes. I have shown that my magazine audience is
for teenagers by including all young artists
As you can see in my cover page the main image is a white female. This is key
In showing what the social group of my target audience is. I have shown
On the cover page that it is aimed at both female and male by including
A cover line which is “Winter Accessories for girls and boys”.
