Researching Genre.

Chosen Genre
Contemporary R&B, also known as
R&B, is a music genre that
combines elements of rhythm and
blues, pop, soul, funk and hip
hop.
Audience- I have chosen this genre
due to the wide audience it
provides. As it relates to a lot
of different people.
Contemporary R&B Images.
Representation shown:

There are certain stylistics shown in all pictures;
-Million dollar look
-Social class.
-Gangsta/street style.
-African American artists.
-Clothes i.e. Big earrings, bling and tattoos.
-Position, all of them have a heavy staged pose and are showing off their bodies.
-L.A and New York (where to succeed with music.
-Gold diggers.
-Drugs.
With these stylistics in mind representation shows that R&B are
Magazine pieces

Signifiers used to give an idea
where they are. In most cases
with R&B its in cities.
Issues of Representation

With genres people have ideologies and beliefs as what they should contain. So
with my genre contemporary R&B people will automatically think
gangster, chavvy and rap. However none of this is necessarily what it is about
no matter if that is what the image puts across. The audience then develops an
understanding of what they expect to happen and enjoy guessing. Audiences
want the narrative easily comprehensible and depend on communication
(relating to someone).
What people expect to be involved in this particular genre;
•Locations: City’s, streets, clubs and cars.
•Characters: Gold diggers, rude, people with attitude and sometimes quite
explicit.
Summary.
When following through this genre I can use my friends
(students) to model outside in the town near college. I can use
photo shop to create a realistic looking magazine and
incorporate the images to match the genre I have chosen. I can
find clothes and create my own font and name that are
appropriate for my particular genre.
