1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
A convention in a music magazine
is having the main image overlap
the masthead. I used this
convention for my own magazine,
although I overlapped the
masthead it is still readable for
the first time readers of the
magazine
Most of the time magazines
use a medium shot of the
model, however I challenged
this convention and chose to
do a medium long shot as I
wanted a background of a
bricked wall to be in the shot
as well.

Main cover lines are
typically bigger than the
other cover lines making
them stand out more and
so you can identify what
the main story is.
I chose a consistent house style of yellow, black and white
throughout my magazine to keep a style to make the
magazine look presentable and appealing. I used these
specific colours as they connote the genre of rock.

The masthead being at the
top middle of the magazine is
a convention of a magazine.

Barcodes are
normally placed in
the bottom left
hand corner out of
the way of the
magazine.
However I broke a
convention as I did
not insert the date
on the barcode as I
thought it would
look crowded,

A convention of a music magazine is that
there is usually a footer at the bottom of
the magazine so that it is a quick and
easy way of finding out what the
magazine features inside.
I added the date
underneath the
contents title following
the conventions of a
magazine.

A convention of a
magazine is that the
contents page are
separated into subheadings making it easier
to find what you are
looking for.

I broke the
conventions of a
music magazine by
not repeating the
masthead onto my
contents page.
One of the conventions is that the background
of the article usually is the first letter of the
person of who the article is about.

I went against the convention of a
magazine by not using the name
of the person who the article is
about, at the top of my magazine.
A convention is having pull out quotes in the double
page spread. This is usually a catchy phrase that would
get the audience’s attention straight away.

It is a convention of all
magazines to have articles
in columns.

For my double page spread I
followed the conventions of a
magazine by having the first page
of a double page spread as an
image and the second page
consisting of the article.

Most double page spreads
start the article of by giving
an introduction. I did this to
follow the conventions of a
magazine.

I used this convention for my own magazine, although I overlapped the masthead it is still readable for the first time readers of the magazine Most of the time magazines use a medium shot of the model, however I challenged this convention and chose to do a medium long shot as I wanted a background of a bricked wall to be in the shot as well. Main cover lines are typically bigger than the other cover lines making them stand out more and so you can identify what the main story is.
  • 2. I chose a consistent house style of yellow, black and white throughout my magazine to keep a style to make the magazine look presentable and appealing. I used these specific colours as they connote the genre of rock. The masthead being at the top middle of the magazine is a convention of a magazine. However I broke a convention as I did not insert the date on the barcode as I thought it would look crowded, A convention of a music magazine is that there is usually a footer at the bottom of the magazine so that it is a quick and easy way of finding out what the magazine features inside.

I broke the conventions of a music magazine by not repeating the masthead onto my contents page.
  • 4. One of the conventions is that the background of the article usually is the first letter of the person of who the article is about. I went against the convention of a magazine by not using the name of the person who the article is about, at the top of my magazine.
  • 5. A convention is having pull out quotes in the double page spread. This is usually a catchy phrase that would get the audience’s attention straight away. It is a convention of all magazines to have articles in columns. For my double page spread I followed the conventions of a magazine by having the first page of a double page spread as an image and the second page consisting of the article. Most double page spreads start the article of by giving an introduction. I did this to follow the conventions of a magazine.
