Question 1
1. Question 1
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
2. My magazine uses rules of thirds to focus the
audience’s attention in speicifc places of the
front cover, ie. the model and the masthead.
Some of my cover lines overlap onto the
picture of the model, which is a typical
convention of music magazines.
While some music magazines opt for a close-up as
their main image, I have decided to use a medium
close-up in order for the audience to see more of
the artist and perhaps connect with them more.
While some music
magazines don’t put the
barcode on the front cover, I
decided to as this is
typically seen in magazines
from other genres.
I have used a
footer here to
provide extra
information,
which is
something
seen in most
other
magazines, but
not necessarily
music
magazines.
In my cover
lines, I have
referenced to
several
articles,
including a
quote from the
main star as
most music
magazines
often do.
3. I have split my contents page into two
halves vertically; one with text and the
other with pictures, as Billboard have
done here.
The masthead has been carried over
from my front cover in a less focal way, as
seen done here by Billboard.
I have once again used a footer, which
some magazines chose not to do.
I have also added an “every issue”
section, something common in music
magazines in particular.
There are a variety
of pictures in both
contents pages
here. However,
while Billboard has
perhaps one as the
main focus, I have
used several in
order to keep the
reader’s interest in
several different
possible articles
they could read.
The house style’s
consistency has
been maintained
from the front
cover to the
contents page in
both examples.
4. A drop cap is used in both articles to
reinforce the artist’s style and name.
Both my double page spread and this magazine has
used an itcalised serif font as the main title to give
the article an air of formatlity.
Also, I have added in quotes from
the article around the page in
order to possible attract the
reader more.
While I have used a mid-shot for my
article, this magazine uses a long shot.
The house styles have once again
remained consistent with the rest of the
magazine in both cases.
Both have
used subtitles
to attract the
reader more.
My masthead has
once again been
carried over to
reinforce the
magazine’s genre
and name, while
this is not often
done in music
magazines.
