PEST Analysis of Myer
The PEST analysis helps to explain the critical factors in the organization's external environment.
The factors include political, economic, social and technological. For Myer, these forces combine
with the internal factors, and other external factors like competition. The Australian consumer goods
retail market is worth $121 billion (IBISWorld, 2012) but is heavily fragmented. Myer is the third–
largest company in the industry behind David Jones and Harvey Norman, but with $3.158 billion in
sales holds just 2.6% market share (Myer 2011 Annual Report). This implies that competition is
only one of many factors that can contribute to the company's results. This PEST analysis will help
to identify the other major factors.
The political environment encompasses factors such as regulations, taxation, trade policy and the
legal environment. For the most part, the regulatory environment is stable, with no major changes
set to affect the industry. Australia's corporate tax rate is slightly above the OECD average
(Treasury.gov.au, 2012), but as all of the company's major competitors are also Australian, this is
neither an advantage nor disadvantage competitively. There is currently a proposal to cut corporate
tax rates, but this is meeting with opposition because of its structure, so there is doubt as to whether
this will pass (Scott, 2012). The political environment may not be right for a tax cut, but tax policy
affects all major competitors equally, so while such a cut would

Moreover, companies are more attracted to expand their business in these countries unlikely in those

players of this segment are global companies operating all over the world, so it's quite impossible to
avoid all the countries where the political stability is questionable or the level of corruption is high.
But there are still different ways to fight with this problem. As an example, Maersk is known for
fighting corruption and bribery and the company proud itself for being the first to initiate The
Maritime Anti–Corruption Network in 2011. Last year its efforts been recognized worldwide and
rewarded with : Innovation in Anti–Bribery Compliance Award.
Besides this, the number of countries in which acts of terrorism and political conflict happen is

Swot Analysis : Swot And Pest Analysis
This essay will examine SWOT analysis and PEST analysis on how they can benefit an organisation
in developing strategy to achieve its goals. Organisations use SWOT analysis as a useful technique
to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and also for identifying both opportunities open to
them and the threats they face. When this strategy is used in a business context it could have a big
impact, it helps them carve a sustainable niche in the market that they operate. When used in a
personal context it helps a person develop in the career they chose to their best advantage of their
talents, abilities and opportunities. I will explain the strategies that can be used by many
organisations in order to keep their businesses running. SWOT is stand for strengths, weakness,
opportunities and threats. Strengths and weakness are internal and opportunities and threats are

Furthermore, China is a planned economy that adds to the difficulty of marketing in the country. All
China's purchasing activities are guided by a planned economy, the annual economic plan. If a need
is found for a product not envisaged by the planners, the product will be subjected to a long
examination process.
Finally, there are Chinese cultural biases which involve negative associations between product
promotions and the perceived value of that product. The Chinese think that aggressive promotions
cheapen a product and that cheap products are never good.

Pest Analysis Of Walmart
Several years ago, I was the Director of HR Strategy for Walmart US. As a component of one of my
early projects, and being fairly new to the organization, I was asked to conduct a PEST of the
organization based on my team's perspective. As a retail industry leader, Walmart continues to
withstand the potential negative effects of threats in the political, economic, sociocultural, and
technological (PEST) aspects of its business. However, this success requires continued evaluation of
the retail industry environment and constant investment in risk mitigation strategies and processes.
These PEST factors also change over time, and since it has been years for me since being there, I
fresh look is required. These constant changes may present new threats or opportunities that were
otherwise not contemplated before (i.e. the Amazon effect). Walmart must exploit the opportunities
and protect itself from threats. In using the PEST analysis, Walmart leaders and managers can
determine which factors to prioritize in strategy development. Let's look at each of the four factors
in our further analysis.
Political Factors – "Are there any other political factors that are likely to change?" Walmart
considers political factors in the retail and employment markets, usually pertaining to government
policies and employment law. In the PEST analysis model, politically active interest groups are also
significant in how Walmart reacts to this aspect. For the most part, politics that would

HUONG HAAND KEN COGHILL
E–Government in Singapore
The Vision of E–Government E–Government is defined as the use of information technology, in
particular the Internet, to deliver public services in a much more convenient, customer–oriented,
costeffective, and altogether different and better way. [Holmes, 2001 cited in Hughes (2003: 182)]
The concept of e–Government is enhanced by the vision of the Singaporean government, which is to
become a world leader in e–Government and to better serve the community and the nation (IDA
2004). The Singaporean government has engaged e–Government to re–examine(s) the organising
principles of bureaucracy and governance, re–define(s) the objectives and deliverables of
government and re–deploy(s) the resources available. (Mahizhnan and Andiappan 2002: 250)
It is not only the addition of an "e" to the word "government" (Khaw 2002: 3) that has caused e–
Government to flourish. The government has had to challenge itself and to change the ways it thinks
and operates in order to continually develop, sustain and improve the operational processes of the
public services (IDA 2000). The Objectives of e–Government Due to advanced technology and the
high level of investment in Research & Development (R&D) since the 1980s, Singapore has gained
a reputation as a regional technology–hub and has nurtured an ambition to become the world

money where it's needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training,
purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many
children as possible, the Children's Miracle Network mission statement is we increase funds and
awareness for local children's hospitals and there vision statement is together we save kids' lives. "
(http://childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org). Strategic planning plays an important role with the
Children's Miracle Network because it determines where the Children's Miracle Network is going in
the 10 years or longer also what better goals they want to accomplish such as raising more money to
help sick children, building more buildings on to the hospital, purchasing better medical equipment
and coming up with medications that can save these children lives. With the Children's Miracle
Network they are there to help save lives and to help children enjoy their lives as children.
Strategic financial planning In 2012, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' Board of Trustees
adopted a new strategic plan that outlined specific and aggressive strategies for growth, including a
goal to quadruple fundraising for member hospitals and hospital foundations by 2022. This means
raising $1 billion annually.

PEST Analysis of Myer Reveals External Factors Impacting Retailer

  • 1. PEST Analysis of Myer The PEST analysis helps to explain the critical factors in the organization's external environment. The factors include political, economic, social and technological. For Myer, these forces combine with the internal factors, and other external factors like competition. The Australian consumer goods retail market is worth $121 billion (IBISWorld, 2012) but is heavily fragmented. Myer is the third– largest company in the industry behind David Jones and Harvey Norman, but with $3.158 billion in sales holds just 2.6% market share (Myer 2011 Annual Report). This implies that competition is only one of many factors that can contribute to the company's results. This PEST analysis will help to identify the other major factors. The political environment encompasses factors such as regulations, taxation, trade policy and the legal environment. For the most part, the regulatory environment is stable, with no major changes set to affect the industry. Australia's corporate tax rate is slightly above the OECD average (Treasury.gov.au, 2012), but as all of the company's major competitors are also Australian, this is neither an advantage nor disadvantage competitively. There is currently a proposal to cut corporate tax rates, but this is meeting with opposition because of its structure, so there is doubt as to whether this will pass (Scott, 2012). The political environment may not be right for a tax cut, but tax policy affects all major competitors equally, so while such a cut would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
