Child Labor Lost
A Labor Of Lost Innocence
Did you know that child labor does more than deprive children of their education and mental and
physical development, their childhood is stolen? Child labor is the use of children in the industry or
business, especially when illegal or considered inhuman. Here's a fun fact I bet you didn't know that
children who participates in the labor force is endlessly varied and responding to changing social
conditions. This is exactly why child labor should not be legal.
Child labor should not be legal because children misses out on their childhood, education, and its
unhealthy and unsafe. The first reason child labor should not be legal is because children miss out
on their childhood. Many child labourers are denied a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people may consider that child labor is beneficial because the children are learning how to
work and learn about the different stuff in the world. So people may think that child labor gives the
children enough education on the real world. Also, people think that if children works in the
warehouse or extreme labor jobs then they will be taught about responsibility. An example is that the
children will start to help their families and find out how it is to be an adult in the real world and
how the real world works. This argument may seem persuasive at first but children are put into
unsafe environments because of child labor, which can potentially kill them. Is making money worth

International Labor Standards Of Child Work
V. INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE International labour standards characterize child work by its
outcomes; it includes work that is rationally, physically, socially or ethically perilous and destructive
to children, and meddles with their educating. UNICEF characterizes child work as work that
surpasses a base number of hours, contingent upon the age of a child and on the sort of work. The
18th International Conference of Labor Statisticians held at Geneva held that Child work (slated for
nullification) ought to reflect the engagement of children in undesirable exercises and could fall into
the accompanying classes: (i) Labour that is performed by a child who is below the minimum age
specified for that kind of work and that is thus likely to impede the child's education and full
development. (ii) Labour that jeopardizes the health, safety or morals of a child, either because of its
nature or because of the conditions in which it is carried out (known as hazardous work). (iii) The
worst forms of child labour other than hazardous work which are internationally defined to
encompass children (persons below 18 years of age) in slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other
forms of forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, their use in
prostitution and pornography, and illicit activities The International Labor Organization has
evaluated that in 2004 there were 218 million children caught in child work of whom 126 million

Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay
Introduction
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is
happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is
defined as "work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that
is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013, p. 2)." In the most
extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families,
exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets
(Dinopoulos & Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as "child labour"
depends on the child's age, the type of work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has provided
the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to fix it. This
paper will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child labour in the
world; secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the actions that the
government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument; lastly, I will give
my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian government.
Child Labour in the World Today
In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5–17, in the world. According
to the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from the
years of 2004–2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000–2004 period that had an 11%
decrease (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of
girls in child labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013).
Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution, agriculture,
mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and domestic service
(Cigno, Rosati, & Guarcello, 2002). The terms "hazard" and "risk" are often used with this type of

Child Labour in Bangladesh Industry
INTRODUCTION:
Bangladesh is a south Asian country. It is also known as a part of the third world country.
Bangladesh has a unstable economy, and in the 21st century we are still dependent on our
agricultural economic structure. We are trying quite hard to put an impact in the world economic
system. For this we are pursuing the trend of the modernization of the western world. Still we are
facing the economic instability. Changing the aspect of our industrialization and economic
perspective we are trying our best to fit in the world economic system. To the economic system we

This was mitigated in Britain by acts of parliament enacted in 1802 and later years, in other places
of industrialized Europe. Although most European nations had child labour laws by 1940, the
urgency of production during World War II brought many children back into the labour market. In
the United States, the Supreme Court declared Congressional child labour laws unconstitutional in
1918 and 1922. A constitutional amendment was passed in Congress in1924 but it was not approved
by many states. The First Labour Standards Act of 1938 set a minimum age limit of 18 for
occupations designated hazardous and 16 for employment in general.
The International Labor Organization, or the ILO, defines child labor as "some types of work" done
by children under the age of 18. The ILO also says that child labor includes full–time work done by
children under 15 years of age that prevents them from going to school (getting an education), or
that is dangerous to their health. Child labour and World industry sector:

Immanuel Kant Definition Of Business Ethics
Part A: Introduction
There are several ways to define ethics. Ethic is a set of principles of right and wrong behavior
guiding. Ethical person will behave in accordance with sound moral principles based on fairness,
justice and trust (Wiley, 1995). The purpose of ethic is to provide an environment that allows people
to live a more structured, happy life than would exist without ethics (Warnock, 1971). Business ethic
is examination of variety of problems that can arise from business environment and how employees,
management and corporation deal with them such as fiduciary duty, insider trading, bribery,
discrimination. In other word, ethic of business is about making the right, moral, ethical business
decision. Society has subsequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an empirical study, there are some other possible causes of productivity differences have been
recognized such as differences in educational quantity and quality, family size, household headed by
woman and other culturally and historical factors will vary attitudes toward work and future–
orientation. Thus, these differences may be the result of discrimination in their life especially female
labour and disability labour. Moreover, it violates one formulation of Immanuel Kant's categorical
imperatives that 'equals should be treated equally". Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
(EEOC) and Age Discrimination in Employment Act had form to prevent any discrimination act.
Thus, this is unethical and unlawful if a corporate is practicing discrimination behavior in corporate
culture due to its inappropriate practices, conduct, values, norms and violation of human right and
interest.
Next, child labour is widespread in developing countries. According to International Labour
Organization (ILO), at least 211 million children were working around the world and mostly in
developing countries, with over 8 million engage in hazardous and exploitative forms of child
labour in year 2001. Child labour is those below the legal working age or supposed to be in school.

Although we can all appreciate our parents making us deliver newspaper to teach us the value of the
dollar, it's on the other end of the continuum we need to be concerned about. When children are
forced to work long hours in the fields, their ability to attend school or skills training is limited, and
consequently, so are their possibilities of economic and social mobility and advancement in later
life. Children in third world countries go to work because they are simply trying to satisfy their basic
needs . These children live in profound poverty, entrenched in decades of neglect, civil war, or
cultural habits. There is no substantive education to speak of provided for children in these parts of
the world and if they had a choice between going to school or working; the odds are against the idea
of going to school . Poverty like slavery is a diseased whose cycle and chain must be broken through
a struggle and education. It's not only the child who needs to be educated but the parents must be
also educated on providing their children an alternative live style. They must be enlightened to the
fact they have been working since they were eight or nine years old and they have nothing to show
for it. This is not what human progress ought to be, humans should strive to provide their children a
better life then they had. The immorality of child labor does not stop at not providing children their
basic needs

Child Labour Around the World
Child Labor lingers among all
Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet
people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last
few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million
children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ("Child labor around," 2013). Some sort of
child labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of regulations. These
children are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be identified as child labor
("Child labor around," 2013). Many of these children's childhood are taken away from them as well
as an opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to understand what it is like to
have a normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice but to work under extremely
hazardous conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor which leads to corporations taking
advantage of child labor to look for an opportunity of increasing their profits. Corporations often
have overseas subcontractors that use child labor as a method of maximizing profits ("Child labor
around," 2013). Child labor often occurs to the "poverty trap cycle", which means children lacking
an education lead towards the work path. The poverty trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect;
the first step of eliminating child labor is elimination of poverty. The concept

Child Labour
Child Labour In the past few years, a great deal of attention has been drawn to the global problem of
child labour. Virtually everyone is guilty of participating in this abusive practice through the
purchase of goods made in across the globe, usually in poor, developing nations. This issue has been
around for a great length of time but has come to the forefront recently because of reports that link
well known American companies like Wal–Mart and Nike to the exploitation of children. Prior to
this media attention, many Americans and other people in developed nation were blind to the reality
of the oppressive conditions that are reality to many.

At the factory, Iqbal would begin work around 6 a.m., working 14–hour days with one 30–minute

air. The children that worked there were not allowed to speak and were often beaten if the broke the
rules or made mistakes. When Iqbal was 10 years old, he was severely beaten by the factory owner,
a man named Arshbad, and decided to escape and report it to the police. When the police looked the
other way, Iqbal was forced to return to the factory and was chained to his loom. Some time later,
Iqbal escaped and went to a meeting of the Bonded Labour Liberation Front, an organization whose
goal was to free Pakistan's bonded workers. Here Iqbal listened to a man named Kahn talk and
spoke to him afterward. With Kahn's help, Iqbal was free and started to attend a school operated by

Pakistan. His work had a large impact, reducing the export demand once people in developed
nations heard of the conditions in the factories. Iqbal was awarded the Reebok Human Rights award

Analysis Of Harbin : Moving On From Central Planning
In the case study, "Harbin: Moving on from central planning," I will introduce the history of the city,
which is the capital of the Heilongjiang in northeastern of China (McKinsey &Company). The city
faces significant challenges, including but not limited to shortage of skilled workers with sufficient
training, a government–dominated economic system, and decision–making corruption under the
state–owned enterprise system. Furthermore, I will present the unethical and immoral challenges the
city faces, such as child labor, unethical marketing practices, severe child labor abuses, water
pollution, and lack of corporate social responsibility. I will conclude that, in order for Harbin to
move from this struggle to a modern city, there should be a corporate and government social
responsibility, the city must adopt environmental sustainability laws and develop a free market not
dominated by the government. In addition, there should be a corporate social responsibility and
disclosure of information should be mandatory. For example, Corporate has a social responsibility to
promote social justice and disclose any information concerning the environment, air quality, water
quality, the health and the safety of their employees. In 1999, Harbin made dramatic progress when
the central government adopted a market–oriented economy and rebuilt the industrial base in the
region (McKinsey &Company, p. 227, 229). For example, in 2002, the city invested $5.3 billion on

Many different variables play a part in finding a solution to help end child labor. Unfortunately, this
form of labor plays a large role in Mexico's economy. Although the country has anti–child labor
laws, the children of Mexico are forced to work for a variety of reasons. Most families force the
children to work due to their struggle with poverty and lack of income. Although some organizations
(like the North American Free Trade Agreement) look at solutions to help boost Mexico's economy,
large international corporations enter the country's struggling economy capitalizing on it's low cost
manufacturing and wages, thus forcing children to work. Solutions must be looked at in order to
stop kids from working their childhood away instead of getting an education to ultimately help
Mexico's economy.
The link between Mexico and poverty is a large reason why children are forced to work in factories.
Poverty began to be an issue for Mexico starting many years ago. In the 1940s, when
industrialization began taking place, Mexico's economy was growing at a rate of 6 per cent per year
(Latapi and Gonzalez). This increase in the economy created two new social classes: the urban
middle class and the new working class. By the late 70s, at least half of the working middle class
held jobs related in manufacturing (Latapi and Gonzalez). This employment gave wages high
enough to allow one worker the

well. Children in most cases will have to live with it for the rest of their lifes (same with mental
effects). They can lose vital organs and their body can be in mutilated condition. Diseases can also
be picked up along the way in some kinds of labour including child prostitution (STI), underground
mines/welding causing respiratory diseases and lead poison etc. These children can also end up with
illnesses that sometimes can not be treated. Which can end up resulting in their own death. Children
rather than adults Children are usually prefered over adults for a couple of reasons: One, children
can be more easily manipulated than adults. Two, they are more willing to do the work. But children
are more susceptible to illness or disease rather than adults are.

Importance of the labourers in our country. The labour force or the workmen constitute an important
segment of the society and play a vital role in the development and progress of the Country. Due to
the fast pace of industrialisation there is a need to regulate and control the relation between the

This subsequently should increase the demand of labour thus an increase in income distribution in
developing countries. A large group of authors writing on the topic expect economic gains from
globalization both for enterprises and workers, but alert to several side effects that increase
insecurity for workers.11 First, structural changes in the economy in line with competitive
advantage cause decline in some economic sectors and growth in others, forcing workers to survive
a period of unemployment while looking for new jobs and possibly acquire new skills. Second,
fluctuations in the price of products in the international economy can translate into variations of
employment levels, which will cause job insecurity. Finally, short–term capital flows can have a
major influence on countries' exchange rates that in turn can endanger the competitiveness of the
real economy and cause job in security. Moreover foreign investors may potentially be more prone
to move on to other countries than domestic investors. Again, this would lead to more job in
security. On a more optimistic note, clients' vigilance worldwide may contribute to better
compliance with basic labor standards to the extent that Non–Governmental Organization (NGO)
campaigns and negative press reports make bad publicity. Also, international trade can lower
domestic prices for certain goods, which benefits workers given that they are consumers as well, to

Some other major factors that contribute to child labor include parental illiteracy, lack of education,
exploitation of cheap labor, family expectations and traditions, limited choices for women and
public opinion that downplays the risk of early work for children. Children are often given
employment because they are easier to exploit than adults are. Children are considered powerless
and paid much less than their parents who are often unemployed or underemployed. Child labor is
often considered a problem that only affects developing countries, but child labor is a global issue.
Asia, Africa and Latin America have the highest rates of child labor, but the United States, Canada,
Europe and other wealthy nations also employ a small number of child laborers. Some of the most
common jobs for child laborers include domestic servants, factory workers, farmers and miners. In
poverty–stricken areas, it is not uncommon for a child to desert school and begin work in order to
provide for themselves and their families. Boys often work in mines, farms and factories, while girls
are trained in house duties and sent off to become domestic servants. Domestic servants are
especially at risk of becoming victims of physical and sexual abuse by their employers. International
economic trends have also increased the amount of child labor in poor, developing countries. "Debt,

Child Labor was a Ghastly Result of the Industrial Revolution
EVOLUTION OF CHILD LABOR
Child labor has come to be regarded as a ghastly by–product of the industrial revolution. The cruelty
described in much of the historical literature has made the employment of children the industrial
revolution's most despised feature. Poverty is the root cause of child labor. Parents send their
children for work to earn money for household survival. The entire family is working to run their
lives. This popular argument makes banning child labor lose much of its force. The market has been
treating child labor as a cheaply available human resource that can be exploited to extract unskilled
labor at almost no cost. Many organizations replace their adult labor force with child labor to reduce
costs. This has led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Few non–governmental agencies state that the count is close to 6 crore (60 million) including the
rural agricultural workers; others claim that the number could be 100 million, if one were to define
all children out of school as child laborers. The report from International Labor Organization
estimates that 218 million children ages 5–17 are engaged in child labor the world over. In India, an
estimated 14% of children between the ages of 5–14 are engaged in child labor activities, including
carpet production. It has been projected that it would cost $760 billion over a 20–year period to end
child labor. This estimated benefit in terms of good education, health and basic facilities is about 6
times that – over $4 trillion in economies where child laborers are found. Some children are forced
to work up to 18 hours a day, often never leaving the confines of the factory or loom shed. Child
trafficking has increased in many parts of India where girls are initially recruited to work in carpet
factories or handicrafts etc but are then trafficked into the sex industry over the border in India. The
recent report of International Confederation of Free Trade Unions shows that as many as 60 million
children working in India are in agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors. An insight can be
drawn from the report that India's booming economy is taking advantage

Child Labour Essay
Child labour is the practice of having children engage in economic activity, on part or full–time
basis. The practice deprives children of their childhood, and is harmful to their physical and mental
development. Poverty, lack of good schools and growth of informal economy are considered as the
important causes of child labour in India.
The 2001 national census of India estimated the total number of child labour, aged 5–14, to be at
12.6 million. In 2001, out of a 12.6 million, about 12 million children in India were in a hazardous
job. UNICEF estimates that India with its larger population has the highest number of labourers in
the world less than 14 years of age, while sub–Saharan African countries have the highest
percentage of children who are deployed as child labour. International Labour Organisation
estimates that agriculture at 60 percent is the largest employer of child labour in India, while United
Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates 70% of child labour is deployed in agriculture
and related activities. Outside of agriculture, child labour is observed in almost all informal sectors
of the Indian economy.
Companies including Gap, Primark, Monsanto and others have been criticised for child labour in
their products. The companies claim they have strict policies against selling products made by
underage kids, but there are many links in a supply chain making it difficult to police them all. In
2011, after three years of Primark's effort, BBC

IKEA'S GLOBAL SOURCING CHALLENGE INDIAN RUGS AND CHILD LABOR
In 1995, Marianne Barner, IKEA's manager for carpets, faced a difficult situation when one of their
Indian rug supplier apparently was involved with the use of child labor in the manufacture of its
products for IKEA. Even though they had a contract where IKEA explicitly forbid the use of child

Argumentative Essay On Child Labor
Child Labor Hurts Everyone
In the past, women and men fought for the children of America to liberate them of the burden of
harsh work and give them their childhood back. Although we want to believe that child labor is now
history, child labor is still significant in our time, all around the world. Today the number of
children, ages 5–14, working around the world are estimated to be increasing. Children are
constantly working in dangerous working environments that cost them their lives or hamper their
ability them to have a basic normal childhood that children have in America. These children miss the
opportunity to run and play with friends, have friends their own age, to explore the world around
them that they live in every day, have the opportunities to go to school to learn about the world they
live in, and expand their imagination. Instead children in some part of world are going to mines and
sweatshops to work instead of to school. They are working in dangerous places instead of playing
with kids their own ages, and we in America are helping with the growth of child labor.
Although in America we have protected our next generation by out lawing child labor, we are
constantly helping the growth of child labor in other parts of the world. How you might ask? By
buying the products produced through child labor from other countries. As American consumers we
need to stop buying products produced by child labor. The sources that I will be analyzing and will
provide dates and facts to examine how we in America have increased the buying of products from
other countries that have child labor as their number one workforce, how by buying from these
countries has hurt Americans, how our import has increased, and exports decreased, and how this
has hurt America's economy dramatically.

Child Labour And Indi Causes, Challenges And Legislations
Child Labour in India: Causes, Challenges and Legislations to combat the malaise.
Abstract: Child labour continues to be a problem even today in many parts of the world. These
children are mostly inhabitants of poor undeveloped nations of South America, Africa and Asia.
They live in harsh conditions with almost no access to education. The income earned by them,
however minimal, is necessary to feed and clothe their families who are dependent on them. The
families have no other option but to push their children to work in various informal industrial and
agricultural sectors in order to make ends meet. They are simply not aware of the harm this does to
their young children nor is there an orientation to send these children to school instead. The
Government of India has taken a lot of legal initiatives in order to address this serious issue of child
labour. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been proactively involved in the
eradication of this malaise plaguing Indian society. India is also a participant in the United Nation's
International Program on Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) under the aegis of ILO. The present
paper will look at the various causes which lead to child labour, the international and national
legislations that are in place to eliminate this glaring menace and the steps which must be taken in
order to abolish child labour in the country.

IPEC's work to eliminate child labour is an important facet of the ILO's Decent Work Agenda. Child
labour not only prevents children from acquiring the skills and education they need for a better
future, it also perpetuates poverty and affects national economies through losses in competitiveness,
productivity and potential income. Withdrawing children from child labour, providing them with
education and assisting their families with training and employment opportunities contribute directly
to creating decent work for adults. Setting target group priorities The goal of IPEC remains the
prevention and elimination of all forms of child labour, the priority targets for immediate action are
the worst forms of child labour, which are defined in the ILO Convention on the worst forms of
child labour, 1999 (No. 182) as: All forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, Such as the sale

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a novel that shows what would happen if the government had

Child labor effects everyone without them even knowing. I'm sure you've unknowingly bought
something that aids people who do these things to people. America is full of stores that have
clothing made by children, but it's not only us... maybe the things going on in Africa, where most of

In over twenty–five countries, many children are abducted and beaten into submission to be used in
real life wars. A very famous viral video called "Kony 2012" was trying to get people to help catch
the Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, who has kidnapped thousands of children over the past twenty
years. Child soldiers are defined as: children under the age of 18 who are recruited by state or non–
state armed groups and used as fighters, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messengers, spies,
or even for sexual purposes. Most of the children that do get wound up in the world of child labor,
(the ones not forced or kidnapped) are doing it for family or their education. In Enders Game, he is
doing it for the world. Ender is being used as a child soldier to stop an alien race and at only age

many levels, in real life and in the book. Someone at a young age that should be happy and smiling

The Need for International Labor Standards
"The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ
their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an
authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or

and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it" (Smith, 1776: 456)

A Brief History of Labor Standards
In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade
regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made
between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation
designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws were
implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods made
with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was merely a
convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing into law the
U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or indentured labor.
The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most
notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948.
Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT
made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were
established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members

Child Labor Is A Global Concern
Introduction
Child labor is now a global concern and has attracted attention of people in various sectors of the
global economy. As a matter of fact International labor organization (ILO), the World Trade
Organization (WTO) and other international communities considers child labor completely abusive
and ruthless. It is also considered to be derived from unequal society and therefore could be said that
poverty and unequal distribution of wealth within the society makes children to go to work and in
many cases to look after their family. The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that
there are about 250 million economically active children worldwide. 61% of these workers are in
Asia, which equals to approximately 153 million children. In Sub–Saharan area 1 in 4 children aged
between the ages of 5 –17 work, compared to 1 in 8 in Asia. Around half of the economically
children are working fulltime, and about 30 to 46 million are in very abusive and ruthless conditions
or worse forms of child labor.
What is Child Labor?
Child labor refers to any employment that deprives them from their childhood. Therefore child labor
is considered to be harmful because it is economically exploitive and is interfering with their
education. It is also very much hazardous towards their health, or physical, mental, spiritual, moral
or social development. In fact child labor not only harms the child, but also increases poverty and
equitable development. It is also defined, as work

Even though the brand changes its containers several times yet customers still remain loyal to Coca–

Coke's taste did not win the hearts of millions of customers. Apart from this, the brand also tries out
new cans for ease of using by the customers (Lazarevic, 2012). For instance, during the festive
seasons small cans are introduced so as to cater the customers' requirements. Sometimes even
snowflakes designed Diet Coke cans can be witnessed during the Christmas. However, in most cases
Coca–Cola's customers are more than happy with the red cans and thus no replacement can allure to
that extent (Westwood, 2015). On the other hand, during the 2016's September, Coca–Cola joined
the WWF force to raise funds for the endangered species of polar bears. Arguably, none of the brand

Development can be defined as a wide participatory process of social change in a society intended to
bring about both social and material advancement including greater equality, freedom and other
valued qualities for the majority of the people through gaining greater control over their
environment (Everett Rogers, 1976, Moemeka, Pg.8). I believe that development needs to start at
the grassroots, and it needs to begin with children. This is not to say that this is the only kind of
development that needs to take place, but this is the best kind of development for the future, as it is a
fresh learning process vs. an 'undoing old methods and re–learning' process. Issues concerning
children therefore need to be addressed immediately. Child labour is one of the primary concerns in
developing countries. Child labour has been defined by the ILO as all economic activities carried
out by persons less than 15 years of age (regardless of occupational status, wage–earners, own–
account workers, unpaid family workers etc.) Child labour is illegal in most countries, especially
bonded labour as well as those situations which involve children working in dangerous and
hazardous environments. Children are often engaged in work that is detrimental to their emotional,
psychological as well as physical well being, as in the case of prostitution. According to a 1997

Globalization Of The International Labour Organization
Introduction
According to the International Labour Organization (2003), the term 'globalization' is used in
diverse ways, but the major idea behind the term is progressive integration of societies and
economies; the progressiveness is motivated by new economic relationships, new technologies, and
various national as well as international policies of an array of players and entailing international
organizations, governments, labor, business, and civil society. This implies that there are two aspects
to the globalization process; first, it refers to various factors like trade, technology, financial
decisions, fluent communication and proper flow of information; these factors are the primary
reason that brings a society together as a family and all the citizens as family members (International
Labour Organization, 2003). Second, it refers to institutions and policies, which integrate various
countries and economies such as trade or capital market, international standards and rights of labors,
behavior and other issues in the companies towards labor, property rights (via agreements) etc. that
operate at both a national and an international level (International Labour Organization, 2003). Both
aspects of globalization demonstrate that the term was coined for a progressiveness of society;
therefore, it both influences and is influenced by society. Whether the impacts of globalization are
primarily positive or negative is still uncertain; this essay will seek to answer that

huge number of children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits.
Be abused People think work doesn't harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused
by their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to
exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and
punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily
get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a
worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly
beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep
working as slaves for employers. (Kielland & Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in
African child labourers. It causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working
children get sexual abuse more than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and
Tovo. (2006). In their article, "child labour in the commercial labor market", girls work in
restaurants longer than boys, and working late hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls

And by offering the right products at the right prices we will help our customers live a more
sustainable life at home. IKEA has an important role to play in terms of taking responsibility for
people and the environment. This is why sustainability is one of four cornerstones in the new Group
strategy "Growing IKEA – together". We have a strong foundation to build on – it is in our culture to
twist and turn established truths to find a new angle, a new idea, and to have the courage to try to do
things differently. IKEA is obsessed with making more from less, and we hate to waste resources of
any kind. This will continue to be our compass in years to come, and we will stimulate new thinking

use more resource efficient materials and develop better solutions for reusing and recycling IKEA
products once our customers no longer want them. I believe IKEA together with our customers, co–

Taking a Look at Child Labor
Introduction
Child labor is often referred to the employment that neglects a child's childhood and the potential in
attending any schools. Children who are forced to work at a young age may also experience
negative effects such as health problems that will ultimately impact their overall growth. Generally,
child labor is closely classified as a rural phenomenon because of the significant amount of
impoverished families that send their children to work in both rural and urban areas. In rural areas,
child labor in agriculture rank among the highest. In urban areas, child trafficking, prostitution, and
drug trafficking is the most popular form of child labor. Moreover this process is extremely common
for poor families because of the need for extra income to survive. Children from all over the world
are suffering from physical, mental, and sexual disorders that transpires from child labor. In modern
developed countries like the United States, laws are passed to eliminate child labor, but there are
still many cases of children trafficking prior to the topic of child labor. However, child labor usually
resides in the impoverished countries due to the low socioeconomic status and their culture.
According to International Labour Organization (ILO), statistics shows that 246 million children are
working at a young age (Lancet 2003. 32). Impoverished countries such as India, and Ghana are
known to exploit children to work due to extreme poverty. Child labor is an ongoing

The International Labour Organization and Its Attempt to...
Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts to
alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after which
an introductory overview will be given about the ILO's activities against child labour. Thereafter, a
critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO's steps against child labour, and some major
problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO's approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child
Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks
that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour.
Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: 'Labour that exploits
children and restricts their mental and physical development', and thus household chores, in most
cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for
children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to
sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones
described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their
physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not considered to be necessarily a bad
thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning opportunities. For example,

Responsible sourcing is a universal method to the sustainable evaluation of materials. This is an
environmental, economical and social way of obtaining construction supplies such as concrete.
Responsible sourcing is a progressively imperative factor for specifiers and clients in the
construction commerce. The idea first industrialized in fair trade of food products and fair
employment conditions for production of consumer goods. The International Labour Organisation
(ILO) was founded in 1919 to be accountable for drawing up and supervising international labour
standards. Responsible sourcing adds to this by involving other environmental, social and economic
characteristics of sustainability. The UK government spearheads in this aspect of ... Show more

There is an agenda for the organisational authority and supply chain management and this must be
adopted clearly by all companies.
It can be assumed that responsible sourcing can be a very crucial factor that contributes towards
construction and civil engineering as concrete is used in almost all projects. This is why it is
paramount to produce this concrete from trusted sources. Hence "89% of all concrete in 2012 was
certified to BES 6001 and of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or
Excellent performance rating." As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to keep in
mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not responsibly sourced then a lot of
unwanted issues could arise. For example it could lead to the concrete not being of the same quality
as a responsibly sourced one. Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if
responsibly sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short–term effects of using cheap
concrete is good the long–term effects of responsibly sourced concrete outweighs this. In their
analysis Georgopoulos and Minson (2014, p. 129) say, "The UK concrete industry is supporting the
BES 6001 as it is the most comprehensive standard available and measures the whole infrastructure
of the supply chain". It is not easy for companies to be certified by this and they have to meet certain
requirements, which includes having a

Child Labor Essay
Child Labor Child labor is a pervasive problem throughout the global economy, especially in the
markets of developing countries. With over 90% of the total child labor market employed in the
rural areas of Asia and Africa largely due to lack of enforcement, it is argued that something has to
be done. Although the majority of people are ethically appalled by child labor, and against the
exploitation of children, is the worldwide eradication of the worst forms of child labor really a
feasible alternative? To answer this question people have to take into account a variety of factors
involving both the economic and social costs, as well as have a firm understanding of the situations
people are faced with in these underdeveloped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a vast amount of resources and huge demand for finished goods, child labor including the
worst forms of bonded labor were used in both the US and UK to produce goods at the lowest
possible cost. So to tell governments of impoverished nations to ban the practices that helped make
industrialized nations what they are today is counterintuitive. For the US and the UK as well as
others have relied on the use of child labor during their time of industrial development. This is a
large reason why some third world governments are willing to turn a blind eye to some of the
practices going on in their countries. Because there is hope that they too will develop industry by
attracting foreign investment with the lure of cheap labor, and one day be able to emerge as an
industrialized nation as did the US and the UK. So how does child labor help increase investment,
and make children better off? This is a very strong argument for the proponents of child labor. The
governments of these countries understand that a child working 14 hours a day in a factory isn't
what is best for that child. But when you consider the alternatives, is working in a factory for less
than a dollar a day really making a child or their future worse off? Some would argue no. Primarily
because of the economic advantages that can be gained by luring investment with the promise of
high profits due to a cheap labor market. Krugman outlines many of the benefits that can come from

Child labor is the use of children in the industry or business, especially when illegal or considered inhuman. Here's a fun fact I bet you didn't know that children who participates in the labor force is endlessly varied and responding to changing social conditions. Some people may consider that child labor is beneficial because the children are learning how to work and learn about the different stuff in the world. So people may think that child labor gives the children enough education on the real world. Also, people think that if children works in the warehouse or extreme labor jobs then they will be taught about responsibility. An example is that the children will start to help their families and find out how it is to be an adult in the real world and how the real world works. • 5. International Labor Standards Of Child Work V. INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE International labour standards characterize child work by its outcomes; it includes work that is rationally, physically, socially or ethically perilous and destructive to children, and meddles with their educating. UNICEF characterizes child work as work that surpasses a base number of hours, contingent upon the age of a child and on the sort of work. The 18th International Conference of Labor Statisticians held at Geneva held that Child work (slated for nullification) ought to reflect the engagement of children in undesirable exercises and could fall into the accompanying classes: (i) Labour that is performed by a child who is below the minimum age specified for that kind of work and that is thus likely to impede the child's education and full development. (ii) Labour that jeopardizes the health, safety or morals of a child, either because of its nature or because of the conditions in which it is carried out (known as hazardous work). (iii) The worst forms of child labour other than hazardous work which are internationally defined to encompass children (persons below 18 years of age) in slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, their use in prostitution and pornography, and illicit activities The International Labor Organization has evaluated that in 2004 there were 218 million children caught in child work of whom 126 million where in dangerous work. • 7. Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay Introduction Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is defined as "work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013, p. 2)." In the most extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets (Dinopoulos & Zhao, 2007). To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has provided the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to fix it. This paper will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child labour in the world; secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the actions that the government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument; lastly, I will give my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian government. Child Labour in the World Today In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5–17, in the world. According to the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from the years of 2004–2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000–2004 period that had an 11% decrease (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of girls in child labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013). Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution, agriculture, mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and domestic service (Cigno, Rosati, & Guarcello, 2002). Although most European nations had child labour laws by 1940, the urgency of production during World War II brought many children back into the labour market. In the United States, the Supreme Court declared Congressional child labour laws unconstitutional in 1918 and 1922. A constitutional amendment was passed in Congress in1924 but it was not approved by many states. The First Labour Standards Act of 1938 set a minimum age limit of 18 for occupations designated hazardous and 16 for employment in general. The International Labor Organization, or the ILO, defines child labor as "some types of work" done by children under the age of 18. The ILO also says that child labor includes full–time work done by children under 15 years of age that prevents them from going to school (getting an education), or that is dangerous to their health. Although we can all appreciate our parents making us deliver newspaper to teach us the value of the dollar, it's on the other end of the continuum we need to be concerned about. When children are forced to work long hours in the fields, their ability to attend school or skills training is limited, and consequently, so are their possibilities of economic and social mobility and advancement in later life. Children in third world countries go to work because they are simply trying to satisfy their basic needs . These children live in profound poverty, entrenched in decades of neglect, civil war, or cultural habits. There is no substantive education to speak of provided for children in these parts of the world and if they had a choice between going to school or working; the odds are against the idea of going to school . Poverty like slavery is a diseased whose cycle and chain must be broken through a struggle and education. It's not only the child who needs to be educated but the parents must be also educated on providing their children an alternative live style. They must be enlightened to the fact they have been working since they were eight or nine years old and they have nothing to show for it. This is not what human progress ought to be, humans should strive to provide their children a better life then they had. • 15. Child Labour Around the World Child Labor lingers among all Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ("Child labor around," 2013). Some sort of child labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of regulations. These children are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be identified as child labor ("Child labor around," 2013). Many of these children's childhood are taken away from them as well as an opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to understand what it is like to have a normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice but to work under extremely hazardous conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor which leads to corporations taking advantage of child labor to look for an opportunity of increasing their profits. Corporations often have overseas subcontractors that use child labor as a method of maximizing profits ("Child labor around," 2013). Child labor often occurs to the "poverty trap cycle", which means children lacking an education lead towards the work path. The poverty trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect; the first step of eliminating child labor is elimination of poverty. The concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Virtually everyone is guilty of participating in this abusive practice through the purchase of goods made in across the globe, usually in poor, developing nations. This issue has been around for a great length of time but has come to the forefront recently because of reports that link well known American companies like Wal–Mart and Nike to the exploitation of children. When Iqbal was 10 years old, he was severely beaten by the factory owner, a man named Arshbad, and decided to escape and report it to the police. When the police looked the other way, Iqbal was forced to return to the factory and was chained to his loom. Some time later, Iqbal escaped and went to a meeting of the Bonded Labour Liberation Front, an organization whose goal was to free Pakistan's bonded workers. Here Iqbal listened to a man named Kahn talk and spoke to him afterward. With Kahn's help, Iqbal was free and started to attend a school operated by the BLLF. Analysis Of Harbin : Moving On From Central Planning In the case study, "Harbin: Moving on from central planning," I will introduce the history of the city, which is the capital of the Heilongjiang in northeastern of China (McKinsey &Company). The city faces significant challenges, including but not limited to shortage of skilled workers with sufficient training, a government–dominated economic system, and decision–making corruption under the state–owned enterprise system. Furthermore, I will present the unethical and immoral challenges the city faces, such as child labor, unethical marketing practices, severe child labor abuses, water pollution, and lack of corporate social responsibility. I will conclude that, in order for Harbin to move from this struggle to a modern city, there should be a corporate and government social responsibility, the city must adopt environmental sustainability laws and develop a free market not dominated by the government. In addition, there should be a corporate social responsibility and disclosure of information should be mandatory. For example, Corporate has a social responsibility to promote social justice and disclose any information concerning the environment, air quality, water quality, the health and the safety of their employees. In 1999, Harbin made dramatic progress when the central government adopted a market–oriented economy and rebuilt the industrial base in the region (McKinsey &Company, p. 227, 229). For example, in 2002, the city invested $5.3 billion on 34 bridges and 54 new bus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many different variables play a part in finding a solution to help end child labor. Unfortunately, this form of labor plays a large role in Mexico's economy. Although the country has anti–child labor laws, the children of Mexico are forced to work for a variety of reasons. Most families force the children to work due to their struggle with poverty and lack of income. Although some organizations (like the North American Free Trade Agreement) look at solutions to help boost Mexico's economy, large international corporations enter the country's struggling economy capitalizing on it's low cost manufacturing and wages, thus forcing children to work. Solutions must be looked at in order to stop kids from working their childhood away instead of getting an education to ultimately help Mexico's economy. The link between Mexico and poverty is a large reason why children are forced to work in factories. Poverty began to be an issue for Mexico starting many years ago. In the 1940s, when industrialization began taking place, Mexico's economy was growing at a rate of 6 per cent per year (Latapi and Gonzalez). This increase in the economy created two new social classes: the urban middle class and the new working class. By the late 70s, at least half of the working middle class held jobs related in manufacturing (Latapi and Gonzalez). This employment gave wages high enough to allow one worker the ... Second, fluctuations in the price of products in the international economy can translate into variations of employment levels, which will cause job insecurity. Finally, short–term capital flows can have a major influence on countries' exchange rates that in turn can endanger the competitiveness of the real economy and cause job in security. Moreover foreign investors may potentially be more prone to move on to other countries than domestic investors. Again, this would lead to more job in security. The cruelty described in much of the historical literature has made the employment of children the industrial revolution's most despised feature. Poverty is the root cause of child labor. Parents send their children for work to earn money for household survival. The entire family is working to run their lives. This popular argument makes banning child labor lose much of its force. • 41. Child Labour Essay Child labour is the practice of having children engage in economic activity, on part or full–time basis. The practice deprives children of their childhood, and is harmful to their physical and mental development. Poverty, lack of good schools and growth of informal economy are considered as the important causes of child labour in India. The 2001 national census of India estimated the total number of child labour, aged 5–14, to be at 12.6 million. In 2001, out of a 12.6 million, about 12 million children in India were in a hazardous job. UNICEF estimates that India with its larger population has the highest number of labourers in the world less than 14 years of age, while sub–Saharan African countries have the highest percentage of children who are deployed as child labour. International Labour Organisation estimates that agriculture at 60 percent is the largest employer of child labour in India, while United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates 70% of child labour is deployed in agriculture and related activities. Outside of agriculture, child labour is observed in almost all informal sectors of the Indian economy. • 45. Argumentative Essay On Child Labor Child Labor Hurts Everyone In the past, women and men fought for the children of America to liberate them of the burden of harsh work and give them their childhood back. Although we want to believe that child labor is now history, child labor is still significant in our time, all around the world. Today the number of children, ages 5–14, working around the world are estimated to be increasing. Children are constantly working in dangerous working environments that cost them their lives or hamper their ability them to have a basic normal childhood that children have in America. These children miss the opportunity to run and play with friends, have friends their own age, to explore the world around them that they live in every day, have the opportunities to go to school to learn about the world they live in, and expand their imagination. Instead children in some part of world are going to mines and sweatshops to work instead of to school. They are working in dangerous places instead of playing with kids their own ages, and we in America are helping with the growth of child labor. Although in America we have protected our next generation by out lawing child labor, we are constantly helping the growth of child labor in other parts of the world. How you might ask? By buying the products produced through child labor from other countries. As American consumers we need to stop buying products produced by child labor. The sources that I will be analyzing and will provide dates and facts to examine how we in America have increased the buying of products from other countries that have child labor as their number one workforce, how by buying from these countries has hurt Americans, how our import has increased, and exports decreased, and how this has hurt America's economy dramatically. Abstract: Child labour continues to be a problem even today in many parts of the world. These children are mostly inhabitants of poor undeveloped nations of South America, Africa and Asia. They live in harsh conditions with almost no access to education. The income earned by them, however minimal, is necessary to feed and clothe their families who are dependent on them. The families have no other option but to push their children to work in various informal industrial and agricultural sectors in order to make ends meet. They are simply not aware of the harm this does to their young children nor is there an orientation to send these children to school instead. The Government of India has taken a lot of legal initiatives in order to address this serious issue of child labour. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been proactively involved in the eradication of this malaise plaguing Indian society. India is also a participant in the United Nation's International Program on Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) under the aegis of ILO. The present paper will look at the various causes which lead to child labour, the international and national legislations that are in place to eliminate this glaring menace and the steps which must be taken in order to abolish child labour in the country. Child labour not only prevents children from acquiring the skills and education they need for a better future, it also perpetuates poverty and affects national economies through losses in competitiveness, productivity and potential income. Withdrawing children from child labour, providing them with education and assisting their families with training and employment opportunities contribute directly to creating decent work for adults. Setting target group priorities The goal of IPEC remains the prevention and elimination of all forms of child labour, the priority targets for immediate action are the worst forms of child labour, which are defined in the ILO Convention on the worst forms of child labour, 1999 (No. 182) as: All forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, Such as the sale and trafficking of children, Debt bondage and serfdom and forced or compulsory labour, including forced or compulsory recruitment of children for use in armed conflict; The use, procuring or offering of a child for prostitution, for the production of pornography or for pornographic performances; The use, procuring or offering of a child for illicit activities, in particular for the production and trafficking of drugs as defined in the relevant international treaties; ... • 53. Human Rights in Ender´s Game by Orson Scott Card Essays Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a novel that shows what would happen if the government had too much power and has a powerful angle on inequality and child labor. My novel has taught me a lot about inequality, as did my research. But I found out a lot about my main point; child labor. Child labor effects everyone without them even knowing. I'm sure you've unknowingly bought something that aids people who do these things to people. America is full of stores that have clothing made by children, but it's not only us... maybe the things going on in Africa, where most of the cases are coming from, need a little light shed on them. In over twenty–five countries, many children are abducted and beaten into submission to be used in real life wars. A very famous viral video called "Kony 2012" was trying to get people to help catch the Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, who has kidnapped thousands of children over the past twenty years. Child soldiers are defined as: children under the age of 18 who are recruited by state or non– state armed groups and used as fighters, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messengers, spies, or even for sexual purposes. Most of the children that do get wound up in the world of child labor, (the ones not forced or kidnapped) are doing it for family or their education. In Enders Game, he is doing it for the world. Ender is being used as a child soldier to stop an alien race and at only age eleven, he is a commander of his own fleet and commits genocide. This is obviously wrong on so many levels, in real life and in the book. Someone at a young age that should be happy and smiling is making a choice whether or not to end someone's life. The up side is there is a lot of people trying to end this and people like the International Labor Organization are working very hard to end all forms of child labor. There was also a walk to raise money for the benefit of child labor. Africa is most of the organizations main focus from what I could tell. Children are supposed to be able to be free and happy ... The Need for International Labor Standards Essay The Need for International Labor Standards "The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it" (Smith, 1776: 456) Introduction There is no question that the combination of the free market and rapidly advancing technologies has integrated the world economy to a level unsurpassed in history. A Brief History of Labor Standards In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or indentured labor. The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948. Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Child Labor Is A Global Concern Introduction Child labor is now a global concern and has attracted attention of people in various sectors of the global economy. As a matter of fact International labor organization (ILO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international communities considers child labor completely abusive and ruthless. It is also considered to be derived from unequal society and therefore could be said that poverty and unequal distribution of wealth within the society makes children to go to work and in many cases to look after their family. The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that there are about 250 million economically active children worldwide. 61% of these workers are in Asia, which equals to approximately 153 million children. In Sub–Saharan area 1 in 4 children aged between the ages of 5 –17 work, compared to 1 in 8 in Asia. Around half of the economically children are working fulltime, and about 30 to 46 million are in very abusive and ruthless conditions or worse forms of child labor. What is Child Labor? Child labor refers to any employment that deprives them from their childhood. Therefore child labor is considered to be harmful because it is economically exploitive and is interfering with their education. It is also very much hazardous towards their health, or physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development. In fact child labor not only harms the child, but also increases poverty and equitable development. It is also defined, as work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguably, the 'planet' aspect represents a brand's willingness to implement different sustainable practices thereby reducing their environmental impacts. Therefore, sudden adoption is quite risky for the brands as well. In–depth analysis and case study in relation to the issues The brand loyalty amongst the customers of Coca–Cola is extremely high. Even though the brand changes its containers several times yet customers still remain loyal to Coca– Cola. At times, in the previous eras, the brand was also quite shy regarding the change of its brand name and tastes. In fact, its ardent step to provide the customers something new failed. The New Coke's taste did not win the hearts of millions of customers. Apart from this, the brand also tries out new cans for ease of using by the customers (Lazarevic, 2012). For instance, during the festive seasons small cans are introduced so as to cater the customers' requirements. Sometimes even snowflakes designed Diet Coke cans can be witnessed during the Christmas. However, in most cases Coca–Cola's customers are more than happy with the red cans and thus no replacement can allure to that extent (Westwood, 2015). On the other hand, during the 2016's September, Coca–Cola joined the WWF force to raise funds for the endangered species of polar bears. Arguably, none of the brand loyal customers liked white finishing of the cans instead of red. Thus, brand loyalty is actually back–firing the Coca–Cola's good cause of fund raising (He, Li and Harris, 2012). In fact, protecting the polar bears is not the sole ... It examines the role of development communication in empowering working children, and its impact on the movement. The paper begins with a brief introduction to development, linking it with issues concerning working children. It then goes into a brief overview of UNICEF and the ILO, and talks about the role of each in the international working children's movement. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Development can be defined as a wide participatory process of social change in a society intended to bring about both social and material advancement including greater equality, freedom and other valued qualities for the majority of the people through gaining greater control over their environment (Everett Rogers, 1976, Moemeka, Pg.8). I believe that development needs to start at the grassroots, and it needs to begin with children. This is not to say that this is the only kind of development that needs to take place, but this is the best kind of development for the future, as it is a fresh learning process vs. an 'undoing old methods and re–learning' process. Issues concerning children therefore need to be addressed immediately. Child labour is one of the primary concerns in developing countries. Child labour has been defined by the ILO as all economic activities carried out by persons less than 15 years of age (regardless of occupational status, wage–earners, own– account workers, unpaid family workers etc.) Child labour is illegal in most countries, especially bonded labour as well as those situations which involve children working in dangerous and hazardous environments. Children are often engaged in work that is detrimental to their emotional, psychological as well as physical well being, as in the case of prostitution. • 63. Globalization Of The International Labour Organization Introduction According to the International Labour Organization (2003), the term 'globalization' is used in diverse ways, but the major idea behind the term is progressive integration of societies and economies; the progressiveness is motivated by new economic relationships, new technologies, and various national as well as international policies of an array of players and entailing international organizations, governments, labor, business, and civil society. This implies that there are two aspects to the globalization process; first, it refers to various factors like trade, technology, financial decisions, fluent communication and proper flow of information; these factors are the primary reason that brings a society together as a family and all the citizens as family members (International Labour Organization, 2003). Second, it refers to institutions and policies, which integrate various countries and economies such as trade or capital market, international standards and rights of labors, behavior and other issues in the companies towards labor, property rights (via agreements) etc. that operate at both a national and an international level (International Labour Organization, 2003). Both aspects of globalization demonstrate that the term was coined for a progressiveness of society; therefore, it both influences and is influenced by society. Whether the impacts of globalization are primarily positive or negative is still uncertain; this essay will seek to answer that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits. Be abused People think work doesn't harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused by their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for employers. (Kielland & Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in African child labourers. It causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working children get sexual abuse more than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and Tovo. (2006). In their article, "child labour in the commercial labor market", girls work in restaurants longer than boys, and working late hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls provide service which is far beyond food and drinks. Because there have no general responsibility for those female child labourers, and people think it is a good ... • 70. Taking a Look at Child Labor Introduction Child labor is often referred to the employment that neglects a child's childhood and the potential in attending any schools. Children who are forced to work at a young age may also experience negative effects such as health problems that will ultimately impact their overall growth. Generally, child labor is closely classified as a rural phenomenon because of the significant amount of impoverished families that send their children to work in both rural and urban areas. In rural areas, child labor in agriculture rank among the highest. In urban areas, child trafficking, prostitution, and drug trafficking is the most popular form of child labor. Moreover this process is extremely common for poor families because of the need for extra income to survive. Children from all over the world are suffering from physical, mental, and sexual disorders that transpires from child labor. In modern developed countries like the United States, laws are passed to eliminate child labor, but there are still many cases of children trafficking prior to the topic of child labor. However, child labor usually resides in the impoverished countries due to the low socioeconomic status and their culture. According to International Labour Organization (ILO), statistics shows that 246 million children are working at a young age (Lancet 2003. 32). Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts to alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after which an introductory overview will be given about the ILO's activities against child labour. Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO's steps against child labour, and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO's approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: 'Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development', and thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not considered to be necessarily a bad thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning opportunities. For example, ... It can be assumed that responsible sourcing can be a very crucial factor that contributes towards construction and civil engineering as concrete is used in almost all projects. This is why it is paramount to produce this concrete from trusted sources. Hence "89% of all concrete in 2012 was certified to BES 6001 and of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or Excellent performance rating." As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to keep in mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not responsibly sourced then a lot of unwanted issues could arise. For example it could lead to the concrete not being of the same quality as a responsibly sourced one. Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if responsibly sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short–term effects of using cheap concrete is good the long–term effects of responsibly sourced concrete outweighs this. In their analysis Georgopoulos and Minson (2014, p. 129) say, "The UK concrete industry is supporting the BES 6001 as it is the most comprehensive standard available and measures the whole infrastructure of the supply chain". With over 90% of the total child labor market employed in the rural areas of Asia and Africa largely due to lack of enforcement, it is argued that something has to be done. Although the majority of people are ethically appalled by child labor, and against the exploitation of children, is the worldwide eradication of the worst forms of child labor really a feasible alternative? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a vast amount of resources and huge demand for finished goods, child labor including the worst forms of bonded labor were used in both the US and UK to produce goods at the lowest possible cost. So to tell governments of impoverished nations to ban the practices that helped make industrialized nations what they are today is counterintuitive. For the US and the UK as well as others have relied on the use of child labor during their time of industrial development. This is a large reason why some third world governments are willing to turn a blind eye to some of the practices going on in their countries. Because there is hope that they too will develop industry by attracting foreign investment with the lure of cheap labor, and one day be able to emerge as an industrialized nation as did the US and the UK. So how does child labor help increase investment, and make children better off? This is a very strong argument for the proponents of child labor. The governments of these countries understand that a child working 14 hours a day in a factory isn't what is best for that child. But when you consider the alternatives, is working in a factory for less than a dollar a day really making a child or their future worse off? Some would argue no. Primarily because of the economic advantages that can be gained by luring investment with the promise of high profits due to a cheap labor market.
