Erin is a 21-year-old student pursuing an associate's degree in business administration and plans to become a registered nurse. She became interested in politics after having a child to ensure she raises him in a just world and stays informed for his sake. Through a class assignment on the presidential inauguration, Erin realized the importance of being aware of issues facing the country and how they affect people. She believes everyone should educate themselves on political matters like healthcare laws to make informed decisions.
2. ABOUT ME!
• Hey, I’m Erin! I’m 21 years old and I am
currently working towards an
associates degree in Business
Administration.
• After I graduate with my associates in
business, the plan is to get my pre-
req’s done for the RN program!
• I’d like to be a cosmetic/aesthetic
nurse and work with plastic surgery.
(Botox, injections, lip fillers, etc.)
3. MY REASON’S TO VOTE
I have honestly never really had any interest in politics or what went
on a daily basis. I’ve never really paid attention to the news or what
goes on. I usually only hear what people I am around, talk about and
debate over. I really didn’t start getting more involved with our
political system and thinking about what matters until I became a
mom. I have an 18 month old son and I have to start thinking about
how I want to raise him. Not only that, but what kind of world am I
raising a child in? I have to try to teach him the right morals and the
difference from the wrong morals. So it’s imperative that I stay
educated, not only for my sake, but for my son Sebastian’s sake.
4. WHAT I’VE
LEARNED
One thing that I actually enjoyed
participating in was the paper over the
Presidential Inauguration. I’ve never
watched one before and I’ve actually
never voted before. This year I actually
became a registered voter which was a
surprise for me. I’ve never had any desire
to vote as I am not a educated voter. I
enjoyed watching this though because it
taught we to really pay attention and
become aware of the issues that our
country is facing. We have to be behind
our president and know what he’s doing.
Everything ultimately effects us in some
way, so we need to be as educated as we
possibly can.
5. POLITICAL ISSUES
One of the main political issues that I
think that we need to be aware of and
educated about is the laws that are
passed about our health care!! As
someone who works in a doctors office
and a single mother, it’s really important
to be able to afford it and know what
won’t penalize you. We need to teach our
future generations about what will help
them and benefit them in the future. We
have to keep everyone’s best interest and
health in mind. We are our nation, so why
make health insurance expensive and not
affordable to everyone? I believe that
ultimately health insurance is beneficial to
everyone!
6. OUR RIGHTS
For me the most important amendment would have to be our rights
to freedom of speech. I believe that everyone has the right to their
own life and to live it the way that they please. As a hard headed,
stubborn, individual, I would not like to be controlled in every aspect.
Ultimately, the first 10 amendments, the bill of rights, are all
important. I think they all go hand in hand with each other.
7. FOR MY FUTURE
I think this course has really taught me to expand my horizons and
push out of my comfort zone. To put myself out there education wise
and really pay attention to our world and what goes on. I believe now
that everyone should educate themselves about our political system
and form opinions of their own. We need strong, outspoken people
who are not afraid to speak up for themselves in the world. We need
people who will fight for our country.
