10. City and state government can help or hinder hardworking families trying to raise their children, your vote leads government in making those decisions. Voting is your way to state your concerns and beliefs: What is important in the way of education for you and your family? Which programs to fund and which programs get cut? How the budget is distributed? How do you feel about raising taxes?

Editor's Notes
People died so we can have this honor, this right! We owe it to them to proudly cast our votes. How we vote will affect the lives of our children. If we do not vote, we lose our democracy and what will be left for future generations?
The biggest election issues often directly effect the youth of the nation. War, education funding, employment and job training, and reproductive rights issues are just a few current hot topics. They are affecting your life RIGHT NOW! It used to be you had to be 21 to vote, but you could be drafted at 18. It took the Vietnam War to make our country realize this, then they changed the law. Don’t vote and kiss away your ability to have any influence as to how these issues play out in your world.
Remember that the next time you hear someone moaning about how bad things are in government. Ask them if they voted. Then you will know whether they are worth listening to.
Let everyone know that you care enough about your town and its leaders to have a say in the election’s outcome. If your candidate does not win, you still had a say in the outcome.
