5. GEOSTATIONARY STATELLITES
• The term 'geostationary' comes from 'geo'
meaning 'earth' and 'stationary' - meaning not
moving i.e. the satellite is 'not moving above
earth'.
• Equatorial satellites revolve around the earth
along an orbit above the equator. If their
period of revolution is the same as the period
of rotation of the earth. They are called
geostationary satellite
