sentence structure is the subject of much debate in the field of psycholinguistics. There have been
many studies conducted addressing the issue of why passive sentence structures are so underused as
compared to active sentence structures in children. Several studies have tried to show that passive
sentence structures can actually be elicited through structural priming, or more generally being more
exposed to that specific type of sentence. Although plenty of research as been conducted examining
the P600 response in reference to various types of syntactical anomalies, I could not find one study
that was specifically focused on the priming of passive sentence structures, even though it is said
that the P600 should respond to this specific sentence structure. Therefore, the proposed study will
contribute to the field of psycholinguistics by examining the P600 response of children using the
structural priming paradigm. Based on the results of the study, the study may also be able to
determine if the P600 response could serve as an adequate neural marker for the effectiveness of
passive voice structural priming.
Study design The proposed study will make use of the structural priming paradigm used in previous
studies (Gámez & Shimpi, 2015; Vasilyeva, Waterfall, Gámez, Gómez, Bowers, & Shimpi, 2010), as

I attended the Temple College Vocal Point concert on November 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm in the
Jackson–Graeter Backstage Theatre. The Theatre, located in the Mary Alice Marshal Performing
Arts Center, at Temple College is small, seating approximately 100 people. Since the setting is
quaint, it makes for a personal experience, allowing the audience to truly see and hear the
entertainers character. The stage size also has a downside, at times the actors would trip over each
other while dancing. The Vocal Point concert titled From Rent to Now: The last 20 Years of
Broadway: is directed by Dr. Sara Baker. This Contemporary Broadway show consists of sixteen
characters. It is a spoof on musicals. The opening scene played by Trey Shonkwiler and Konnor
Widmann was funny, and catchy. They sang A Musical from Something Rotten! Shonkwiler is a
Tenor, while Widmann is a Baritone. Together they made beautiful harmonies, they complimented

cannot peel ourselves from the rubble and complete our quest or journey. Losing some of the major

Emma Donoghue's Kissing the Witch sets a revision of popular fairy tales whereas internal voices,
seen as personal experience, and their comparison to external voices, seen as societal expectations,
create places where these stories change. This shift can be seen as a move away from the original
well known story or aspects of that particular story, while also representing a change in the narrator
of the story itself.
The passage above for instance occurs when a cinderella type character is introduced to the reader.
These internal voices are normally associated with the external voices of the evil stepmother and
stepdaughters, which is associated widely with a common thread within the cinderella story itself.
This revision flips what is normally seen as an external voice and internalizes it. A few pages later
we see the girl and her interaction with the prince after he proposes marriage. "The voices were
shrieking, Yes yes yes say yes before you lose your chance you bag of nothingness. I opened my
teeth but no sound came out" (7). While the passage above set up the idea of internal voices, this

my own writings. The Unreliability of Human Memory is an analytical essay from my Workload
57S class. This paper is about how human memory is unreliable due to memory distortion and
changes from other influences. By rereading an essay that I wrote before, I analyzed and learned
about how efficient did I write in a particular genre. For this analytical essay about the human brain,
I would categorize it as a scientific popular article with the emphasis on psychology. Although it
might not perfectly fit the genre, it helped me get to understand my grammatical choices and
rhetorical styles for improving on writing.
In order to analyze my essay, I made a chart that summarizes my grammar patterns and writing
styles based on some practices from Dana Ferris's book, "Language Power." One interesting finding
is that I heavily relied on using subordinating conjunctions. About 47% of my sentences used

Is it rap, pop, opera? Exactly we need to know, but how many genres are there? Well there's rap/hip
hop music, it isn't really sung more like saying something really fast with a cool beat. Pop is written
songs from the heart based on a tune of the artists choice with meaningful lyrics at times. Opera is

throughout the story how did that turned up to be and what were the results of the things that he has

Sumayyah is a very interesting person. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and she was
the first person in her family to be born in America. She has a large family with 8 siblings (not
including herself). Her family is from South Africa, but her race is mixed with many European

The concert was a joint concert with choir and band. The genres choir sang were church music and
lullabies and band played various genres including pop, classical, and holiday music. Some songs
choir sang was "The Word Was God" and "Riversong." Band played songs such as "Phantom of the
Opera," Beethoven symphony No. 5. The instrument choir used was their voices and a piano. Band
used a variety of instruments such as trumpets, trombones, tubas, French horns, clarinets, flutes,
saxophones, piccolos, drums, electric basses, xylophones, tambourines, and others. For choir, there
were a lot of times when all the voices sand in the same pitch but there were times when they sang
in harmony. A piano is used by an instruction for accompaniment. The group was split into three
sections most of the time, these three sections were soprano, alto, and bass. Sopranos and altos
consist of females and basses consist of male. Sopranos would usually have the melodies in the song
and altos would sing an octave lower and basses would sing very low. However, there were times
when altos had the melodies instead of sopranos. During some songs, the choir would split into four
sections, sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. While sopranos, altos, and basses consist of

My Reflective Essay Writing
Before this semester, my essay writing would have been considered rather poor. This was because I
did not understand the various components of a properly written and accompany them to effectively
communicate my ideas. I lacked the most in keeping the audience involved hence, catching and
maintaining their attention, to my writing from the introduction to the conclusion. To me, writing
was more complicated than a speech since a speech involved direct audience who the speaker can
gauge their feelings. I took writing as a difficult task since it involved indirect audience and ensuring
that I meet the demands of such indirect audience, brought more confusion. Though the case, this
past semester's class has really improved my skills in writing. I have learned to to make an effective
written piece. Through the various learning experiences such as individual readings, professional
feedback and many others, I have been able to interact with diverse knowledge sources which have
made me much better by removing the confusion and negative picture I had with regard to writing.
The first area of my improvement is on the organization skills which I have gained, enabling me to
develop an excellent structure for my essays. In my first essays, I was struggling to build an
introduction that would not only be clear to the readers but also cultivate their interest to read the
rest of the article. My introduction thus appeared ambiguous and was very general as from the
feedback I would regularly obtain from my Instructor. Through engaging in regular essay writing,
this has really changed. This is evident in my cause and effect essay where I was able to introduce
the easy with a personal history of the perception of the people with regard to the water they took

During a later part of Scene Two when the cast is dancing the movements match the music, they
appeared to be doing the Waltz, so the music had abrupt changes. In Scene Three: Cadiz, the
orchestra plays some sad and somber music at the beginning. As the scene progresses the music
goes from dark and dismal to happy and cheerful. During one of the songs of Scene Four: Paris the
Old Lady, Cunegonde and Candide were discussing a flight and the music being played by the
