Eugen Sandow Research Paper
Eugen Sandow is generally accepted as the first modern bodybuilder. He performed feats of strength
and displayed his body in the late 1800s. As a result of his exhibitions, Sandow was known as the
strongest and best built man in the world. Others soon began to admire and emulate him. Most of
these bodybuilders, mostly men, performed at exhibitions and for circuses. As more individuals
participated in bodybuilding, gyms and weight–rooms appeared. Standard exercises began to
dominate weightlifting competitions. Although it was still not popular in the United States, an
increasing number of men and women began lifting weights to improve their physiques.

routines to achieve ideal results. In her column, she provided more advice about improving
muscularity and strength than about weight–loss. However, Stockton's most important asset was her
beauty. She had to maintain standards of beauty and femininity to attain social acceptance as a
female bodybuilder. Other notable individuals at Muscle Beach included Joe Gold, Jack Lalanne,
Armand Tanny, and Pat McCormick. Joe Gold started his own gym in Venice Beach named after
him. After selling the gym, he started a new fitness franchise, World's Gym. Jack Lalanne, known as

Description Of The Road Trip
Road Trip It was the morning of July 5th, 2015. My alarm sounded off at around 4:30 AM telling
me it was time to get ready and head out. I grabbed my duffle bag full of clothes, got in my truck,
and headed to my girlfriend's house who lives five minutes away. I pulled into the driveway with
excitement rushing through my body. She was standing there, all packed, wearing a Boston Red Sox
hat. We had gone shopping the night before for food and drinks we thought we needed. We had a
cooler full of ice and piled everything up in there and placed it in the trunk of our car along with our
tent, blankets, and other miscellaneous items we were going to need. Multiple pillows lined the
backseat, and a trashcan was placed on the floor to collect our ... Show more content on

Downstairs we picked up some breakfast that the hotel provided, checked out, and then got back on
the road headed to Tennessee. It wasn't long until we crossed the border into the Volunteer State, and
the first big city we stopped in was Nashville. We parked in a garage and walked around for a couple
hours, taking everything in. stores lined Main Street, filled with cowboy boots and souvenirs that
could draw anybody's attention. Knowing that we were on a tight schedule, we bought a few
souvenirs then were on our way to the last stop of the day. We know found ourselves in the
boondocks of Lebanon, Tennessee. I turned onto the dirt road that led to the campground we would
be staying at. After taking almost twenty minutes to set up our tent, we threw our air mattress inside
and were forced to blow it up on our own, since the electric pump decided to short circuit. The
humidity was so heavy that I nearly passed out because of it, but we both managed to make it
through the night safely with only a few bug bites. We were on the road again in the morning
heading to our next hotel in Arkansas. The landscape began to open up, and on either side I could
see fields of corn span for miles. After hundreds of miles, we made it to our next spot and got some
much needed sleep. The next day, we crossed over into Oklahoma. The landscape wasn't much
different here, but this is where we met Route 66. We first visited the Route 66

The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment
INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever–changing. The emergence of new
species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural
occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of
its inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been
exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and
ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats,
negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species
(Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat
loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of
biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked:
recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways,
usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017).
Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in
popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the
Southern Black Forest revealed that red–deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in
dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active

landslides cause any fatalities nor significate economic damage due to being uninhabited. However,
one landslide caused destruction and alarm following the blockage of the outflow of Rinihue Lake.
The water level of the lake quickly rises, causing floods near other lakes and towns. About 100 km

The Airport and Airway Act of 1982 chartered the FAA to address the growing aviation traffic flying
through major airports in the United States. The FAA generated the National Plan of Integrated
Airport Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS modernized and replaced the 1970 National Airport System
Plan. The NPIAS focuses on the metric of enplanements, the number of boarding passengers at an
airport, to aid in the delineation among airports categorized as a Commercial Service (Primary),
General Aviation (GA), or Reliever Airport (Young, p. 11). The FAA generates a NPIAS report and
delivers it to "...Congress with a 5–year estimate of AIP [Airport Improvement Plan] eligible
development every two years" ("Federal Aviation," para.1). The NPIAS report provides a current
assessment and the projected development growth of airports, these airports and/or proposed

only airport referenced in the article as a reliever airport, and agrees with NPIAS designation is
Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO). Hence, even though not categorized as a reliever airport,
there may be some primary medium and small hub airports that are still considered reliever airports

How Plastic Pollution is Out of Control Many individuals underestimate the amount of plastic we
use each day. According to the article "Plastic Bags Wars", "the world consumes 1 million plastic
shopping bags every minute". Plastic bags, along with many other types of plastics, have become a
leading source of pollution worldwide (Doucette). Captain Charles Moore, founder of the Algalita
foundation states that we use two million plastic bottles in the United States every five minutes.

(Amaral). The lack of proper disposal of trash is contributing to the existing problem of plastic
pollution. Without changing our habits, the garbage patch will only continue to grow (Kostigen).
In "Better Planet Garbage Patch", Thomas Kostigen tells his experience of traveling to the Eastern
Garbage Patch to witness this growing problem first–hand. Kostigen describes this area to be one
and a half times the United States with a depth of 100 feet or more (Krostigen). The size of this
garbage patch is so massive, encompassing around ten million square miles of the North Pacific
Gyre. On the other hand, according to "An Ocean of Plastic", Doucette claims that nobody knows its
exact size or if it has any boundaries at all. (Doucette). Although there have been many estimations
on the size
Hinton 4 of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the exact size remains unknown. In addition, Doucette
warns us that this patch contains more than ten million tons of waste. She describes the area to be a
"fetid swamp of debris where tiny bits of decaying plastic outweigh zooplankton– one of the most
prolific and abundant organisms on the planet– by a ration of six–to–one"(Doucette). It is now
apparent that the amount of plastic particles residing in our oceans is damaging the natural habit and
this trash is not going anywhere. Due to the currents in the ocean, plastic particles are

Banham Los Angeles Reading Response
In Los Angeles: The Architecture for Four E cologies by Reyner Banham discusses the idea that Los
Angeles, as one of the world's major cities, not only is unique compared to other metropolises, but
that its architecture is derived from four different settings, each playing off each other. The four
ecologies are the flatlands, beach cities, freeways, and foothills, which Los
Angeles encapsulates within its boundaries.
Banham, in this book, aims to tackle all architecture within LA, ranging from "hamburger bars to
freeway structures", and how it came to be. Most of LA's buildings are the "first and only structures
on their parcels of land", allowing for a variety of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these different environments allow architecture to take on its own form, addressing each
place but at the same time alluding to it's neighboring setting. Since Los Angeles was not as dense as
other cities during its creation,
Banham argues that more "adaptations" were made for motor transport, with architecture involving
it. Los Angeles, as a city sprawl, owes its form to the earlier modes of transport and property lines.
Originally transport began with the Camino Real and then the train. From these two modes of
transport, it was the train that had the most influence on how Los Angeles was master planned. In its
early stages, it had train lines coming from the pueblo to San Fernando,
San Bernardino, Anaheim, Wilmington, and Santa Monica. It was not until later on that the freeways
duplicated these movements, allowing for widespread construction all connected via the automobile.
Lastly, Banham states that LA architecture is not about integrated design, but rather that
"every part is conceived in separated isolation and of symbolic assemblage". Buildings

Essay On Gentrification Of Venice
This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside
neighborhood known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I've spent a fairly
good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture.
But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice
had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a
beautiful place to go for a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there
has soared through the roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the
average cost of renting a two–bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars
(Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the
culture and the overall lifestyle of its long–term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area
in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community and splendid attractions. Venice was discovered by
Abbot Kinney, a tobacco millionaire, around 1905 (Hormann). It was originally made ... Show more

more than $1 million, and homies are being displaced every day."(Romero) When wealthier whites

Earthquakes In Southern California
There is no shortage of earthquakes in Southern California. On any given day this area sees
numerous earthquakes, though most are barely even felt. The concern here is what will happen when
another earthquake occurs in a large dense area such as Los Angeles County, California. One
question concerns earthquake preparedness of residents in this region. Do residents know what to do
in order to prepare for an earthquake? Are residents prepared for a medium to large sized
earthquake? Another question is, how prepared are buildings when it comes to the shaking from a
medium to large earthquake? Will these buildings protect residents and employees, or do they pose a
severe threat when faced with another earthquake?

In order to map earthquake hazard zones correctly geologists found that not only should they be

the deadly Long Beach earthquake of 1933 did politicians and engineers feel the need to start
earthquake proofing the structures around them (Mualchin 2011). With the passing of the Field Act
school buildings in particular were constructed with earthquake safety in mind. But the Field Act
only covered schools. It wasn't until the San Fernando earthquake of 1971 where major
infrastructure and hospitals were severely damaged that more policies were put in place to

Essay on Charles Manson and the Manson Family
Charles Manson and the Manson Family
"Jails, courtrooms and prisons had been my life since I was twelve years old." (Emmons and
Manson, 21) These are the words of Charles Milles Manson, a convicted serial killer who has never
actually murdered a single person in his life. Manson was born "no name Maddox" on November
12, 1934, and has in fact been in prison for more than half of his life. (28) It was 1967, after Manson
had just been released from the Federal Penitentiary at Terminal Island, San Pedro, when the
"Manson Family" had begun to form. (85) In just two years the family would not only grow to a
surprisingly large number, but become nationally known for the brutal murders of Sharon Tate,

Patricia Diane Krenwinkel was born on December 3, 1947 to an insurance salesman father and a
homemaker mother. At one point in her life she was very overweight, and overcame this problem
only after getting hooked on diet pills supplied by her junkie sister. Even after she lost the weight
young Patricia still felt very ugly and unloved. This was partly due to an endocrine problem that
caused an excess of hair on her body. When Patricia was seventeen her parents divorced, so after
graduating from Westchester High School she moved out her mother's home state of Alabama to
attend a Catholic college there. She dropped out after her first semester and moved back to
California. There she took a job as a secretary and shared a Manhattan Beach apartment with her
heroin–addicted sister. Life was obviously less than ideal, and when Charlie Manson came knocking
on her door, she readily answered. (Krenwinkel)
The first of five children (two sisters and two brothers), Bobby Beausoleil was born in Santa

The Job Of A Social Worker
I. Introduction
The job of a social worker is not confined to one geographical area. As a social worker, one could
possibly visit several different neighborhoods in a single week. Because of the vast variety of clients
that a social worker may encounter, cultural competency and sensitivity is an important concept in
this field of work. According to Garthwait (2016), a social worker "must be capable of recognizing,
respecting, and accommodating differences while treating all clients with fairness and equality under
the law" (p.110). The capability to understand a client's culture, values, perspective, and life
experiences is crucial in determining which services will best suit the individual. Every client is
unique and needs to be treated as such. Thus becoming familiar with a community, a social worker
can better assist clients with their needs.
During Community Immersion, each group was assigned a community in which they were to assess.
One of the communities visited was the city of Santa Monica. Santa Monica is encompassed in 8.42
square miles (Census Bureau). Its borders are the Pacific Ocean to the west, Centinela Avenue to the
east, San Vicente Boulevard to the north, and Dewey Street to the south, as seen in Figure 1. Santa
Monica's residents may be known to lack diversity but the groups of people drawn to this city vary.
In the most popular areas of the city, it is seen that the appearance and tourism are of importance to
this community. This city is known for its

How Physical Geography And How It Affected My Life
Physical geography has been broad subject that includes a lot of things occuring on Earth. I never
really thought about physical geography and its impact in my life until I took this course. Some
lessons coincided with topics from my other classes such as sea erosion and outgoing longwave
radiation. Other topics applied more to my life and somewhat affected my lifestyle. I think the ones
that made most of an impact was the tsunami warning lesson and the imbalances of outgoing
longwave radiation. A few times a month my cousin and I go to Santa Monica State Beach to work
out on the stairs. Just recently I noticed the signs that read Tsunami hazard zone. Coincidentally a
few weeks after we learned about tsunamis. I looked up where there were evacuation

The Success Of The Safran Family
I came with this question because my Fiancé works with a well–known company in Santa Monica.
This company is called "Victory Furniture." This company from what I seen in person and from
what my fiancé has told me, can be in great demand with the right season, but it also has its down
side when the season is bad. Which I believe every company faces at some point. The main basis of
this company is outside furniture. It was established in 1945, in the State of California. A third
generation own company. The store symbolizes the hope and optimism felt by Americans in the
post–WWII boom. The store's name commemorates the sacrifices and glory of a growing nation –
and to this day serves to reflect the commitment invested by three generations of family to build and
maintain the American dream. The Safran family has created a successful furniture business from its
beginnings in a modest, storefront location in West Los Angeles. The family team now operates two
dynamic showrooms in Santa Monica and Irvine. Their showcase varies in the luxurious furniture
and accessories from a wide range of designs and taste. Although each generation has brought its
own talents to the various aspects of the retail environment, through the years a constant has
remained, Victory Furniture carries the widest selection, offers the fairest prices, and provides the
finest customer service. Victory Furniture pushes its best to provide is their finest customer service,

Case Analysis Of The Clean Water System
Summary:
The petitioner, Los Angeles County Flood Control District (District), controls a municipal separate
store sewer system, also known as MS4, which was discharging polluted storm water into four
rivers (Los Angeles River, San Gabriel River, Santa Clara River and Malibu Creek) that exceeded
pollutant standards into navigable waters beginning 2002 or 2003. The MS4 is a system of
conveyances that is designed to collect polluted storm water and discharge the water into navigable
waters. It is not a combined sewer or a part of a sewage treatment plant. MS4 operates are required
by the Clean Water Act (CWA) to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination system

The data from the stations allowed the Ninth Court of Appeals to hold the District liable for the Los
Angeles and San Gabriel rivers.
On June 25, 2012, the Supreme Court granted review of the case only to answer the following
question: "Under the CWA, does a discharge of pollutants occur when polluted water flows from
one portion of a river that is navigable water of the United States, through a concrete channel or
other engineered improvement in the river, and then into a lower portion of the same river?". Using
the S. Fla. Water Mgmt. Dist. v. Miccosukee case, they answered with the following statement;
"pumping polluted water from one part of a water body into another part of the same body is not a
discharge of pollutants under the CWA. For the reasons stated above, the supreme court reversed
and remanded the case.
Analysis:
The main issue of the case was that the Los Angeles County Flood Control District allowed storm
water runoff that exceeded pollutant levels to discharge into rivers that flows into the ocean. The
case mainly focuses on defining the Clean Water Act,

What Are The Major Problems California Has Faced Since 2000
What are the major problems California has faced since 2000? How have the governors and
legislature dealt with these problems? What does the future hold for California? Chapter 40–41 For
the generations California was called "The Golden State,", until the Great Recession had arrived. In
the beginning of December 2007, the American economy began to enter the "Great Recession". This
time period was the longest economic downturn and period of high unemployment since the "Great
Depression" of the 1930's. The economic decline was incited by the banking crisis in which
mortgages were freely given out to the borrowers, who sometimes were people without any stable
income or with little or no money down on the loan. The financial institutions ... Show more content

In response, government entities severely reduced their spending and began large–scale cutting of
public sector jobs. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession.
In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July
2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four–year period between
July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of
jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California's rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9
percent. Another downside was that an estimated 1.4 million Californians were underemployed,
many working in low paying, part–time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many
workers found themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills
were largely unused.
Although the federal government declared that the "Great Recession" had hit its low regression and
the hoped–for economic recovery had begun in December 2009, California continued to suffer from
the ill effects of the financial blow.
During the recession period manufacturing, finance and real estate industries had experienced the
most and lost many workers. Even the workers, who were able to keep their jobs often found
themselves doing substantially more work for the same or lower pay. Often high–tech video cameras

linguistic qualities, unphased by those who move in who aren't familiar with the traditional WeHo

The profits from the popular movies were used to build rows and rows of apartments in the Sherman
area to provide affordable housing to the movie actors and the extended families of the immigrants

being made to the east of Sherman in Hollywood, so rich benefactors were living to the west of
Sherman in Beverly Hills which added to the stimulation of the economy. Also, gambling was
illegal in the city of Los Angeles, but legal in this part of Los Angeles County. These are some of the
reasons why the 1920s saw the proliferation of many casinos, nightclubs, and more in the West

The Core Values Of Social Work

Social work concentrates not only on the wellbeing of society, but also the welfare of individuals,
families, groups, and communities. Social work is a critical tool in acknowledging national
controversial issues such as transparency in the government but can also address local concerns, like
gang related activity within a community. It means seeing issues affecting daily lives and taking the
initiative to enact a solution. Social work encompasses many facets such as community
development, program development, public policy, intervention, and direct one–on–one
communication. The core values of social work for me include the overall well being of society,

The Importance Of Hard Work In The Short Story 'Hollywood'
"The only important thing in life is hard work" (Gilb 483). In the short, story "Hollywood" By
Dagoberto Gilb. Luis, and his wife Marta, and their son Ramon are Hispanic, but only Ramon
speaks English. There are conflicts between each other and others act on the beach. They see things
differently than other, particularly Luis saying what hard work is or not. They do not have a lot of
money, and they are lower class. However, Luis has exceptions, for Ramon on the importance of
hard work. Luis shows irony of unforeseen difference, lack of agreement, truth, and expectation of
hard work.
"The sun's out.", "It's still cold." As Luis and his wife Marta Mention (Gilb 482). "The sand was
moist, the air cool, the ocean as gentle as a bay" (Gilb 482). They have the whole beach to
themselves, because it was winter in Santa Monica beach. Which meant hotels would be discounted;
thus, not a lot of people around. Luis believed it was a good time, for Ramon to knowledge the
importance of hard work. In addition, Luis would relate things to Ramon so he would understand
what Luis was talking about, hard work. "Those boats go around and catch fish so people can eat"
(Gilb 483). Such as, I work at the plantation, which is how men make a living off the land.
Throughout "Hollywood" Gilb expresses their emotions in not having money, nor being able to
speak English, besides their son Ramon who learned it from the babysitter. Luis is Bitter, critical,
outraged, scornful, and miserable. Luis controls everything the family ensures, and Marta learned,
long ago you could not argue with Luis. "If they worked like us they wouldn't have to run," Luis
said of the joggers. "At least they move to keep warm, Marta shot back" (Gilb482). Luis and Marta
have been frustrated with each other since they have arrived at the Santa Monica beach. Luis and his
family are lower class, therefore, did not have the funds for a new blanket, Disneyland, or buying
hotdogs on the beach. "She lay down on the old blanket she'd never convinced him to replace,
draped sweater oversell, and looped her arm over her eyes. The sun was out. She felt pained" (Gilb
482). Marta knew Luis was just being frugal like always. Glib states, Luis to be a hard worker, but I

In 1912, the size of the court was expanded, and the net was raised a foot higher. It was decided that
there would be six players on each side that would rotate around the court throughout the game.
Teams played to twenty–one points, and the winner was the best of three games. "In 1922, officials
declared that a team could only hit the ball three times before sending it to the other side. Players in
the back row were not allowed to spike. The rules banned hitting the ball twice in a row. A team
must also win by two points." (Sherrew 21). Another change allowed teams to use an extra player
called the libero. A libero wears a different colored uniform and only plays in the back row. The
libero can substitute an unlimited number of times for any player. "Some major changes occurred in
the late 1990s. It was swiched to rally scoring. The number of points per game was increased to

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes.
At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man–made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife,
water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The
beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier
in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being
poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land
developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash
that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which
devastate the marine life population.
Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological
history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was one
of the very first beaches in California to be artificially doctored starting in the early twentieth
century. The carousel manufacturer, Charles I.D. Looff, purchased the land directly south

prophecies from time to time, telling what will happen during quests that half–bloods take. It stays
in the attic of the "Big House" a place where the director of the camp lives. This particular prophecy

In chapter 21 it states, "I took out the metal cylinder, which began sparking in the Sky God's
presence, and laid it at his feet." The trio flew to New York despite the risk of Zeus blasting him
(which he didn't) and Percy went to Olympus alone. There he told the gods what truly happened and
returned the bolt to it's proper owner: Zeus. Therefore the words, "You shall find what was stolen,
and see it safely returned" could be changed to, "Percy will find the Zeus's lightning bolt and return
it to him at Olympus."
The third part of the prophecy was, "You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend." In
chapter 22, page 369 it states, "The scorpion lunged. I swatted it away with my hand and uncapped
my sword. The thing jumped at me and I cut in half in mid–air. I was about to congratulate myself

who stole the bolt and helm, he served

  • 1. Eugen Sandow Research Paper Eugen Sandow is generally accepted as the first modern bodybuilder. He performed feats of strength and displayed his body in the late 1800s. As a result of his exhibitions, Sandow was known as the strongest and best built man in the world. Others soon began to admire and emulate him. Most of these bodybuilders, mostly men, performed at exhibitions and for circuses. As more individuals participated in bodybuilding, gyms and weight–rooms appeared. Standard exercises began to dominate weightlifting competitions. Although it was still not popular in the United States, an increasing number of men and women began lifting weights to improve their physiques. Images portray her in a two piece bathing suit lifting men and heavy weights over her head, often while smiling. Physical Culture magazine named her "Miss Physical Culture." Her column, "Barbelles," provided women advice on how to achieve the level of strength and fitness they desired. She featured women who obtained their goals and gave advice on performing workout routines to achieve ideal results. In her column, she provided more advice about improving muscularity and strength than about weight–loss. However, Stockton's most important asset was her beauty. She had to maintain standards of beauty and femininity to attain social acceptance as a female bodybuilder. Other notable individuals at Muscle Beach included Joe Gold, Jack Lalanne, Armand Tanny, and Pat McCormick. Joe Gold started his own gym in Venice Beach named after him. After selling the gym, he started a new fitness franchise, World's Gym. Jack Lalanne, known as the father of fitness, starred in a television show, where he imparted advice on achieving and maintaining a healthy mind and body. • 5. Description Of The Road Trip Road Trip It was the morning of July 5th, 2015. My alarm sounded off at around 4:30 AM telling me it was time to get ready and head out. I grabbed my duffle bag full of clothes, got in my truck, and headed to my girlfriend's house who lives five minutes away. I pulled into the driveway with excitement rushing through my body. She was standing there, all packed, wearing a Boston Red Sox hat. We had gone shopping the night before for food and drinks we thought we needed. We had a cooler full of ice and piled everything up in there and placed it in the trunk of our car along with our tent, blankets, and other miscellaneous items we were going to need. Multiple pillows lined the backseat, and a trashcan was placed on the floor to collect our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Downstairs we picked up some breakfast that the hotel provided, checked out, and then got back on the road headed to Tennessee. It wasn't long until we crossed the border into the Volunteer State, and the first big city we stopped in was Nashville. We parked in a garage and walked around for a couple hours, taking everything in. stores lined Main Street, filled with cowboy boots and souvenirs that could draw anybody's attention. Knowing that we were on a tight schedule, we bought a few souvenirs then were on our way to the last stop of the day. We know found ourselves in the boondocks of Lebanon, Tennessee. I turned onto the dirt road that led to the campground we would be staying at. After taking almost twenty minutes to set up our tent, we threw our air mattress inside and were forced to blow it up on our own, since the electric pump decided to short circuit. The humidity was so heavy that I nearly passed out because of it, but we both managed to make it through the night safely with only a few bug bites. We were on the road again in the morning heading to our next hotel in Arkansas. The landscape began to open up, and on either side I could see fields of corn span for miles. After hundreds of miles, we made it to our next spot and got some much needed sleep. The next day, we crossed over into Oklahoma. The landscape wasn't much different here, but this is where we met Route 66. We first visited the Route 66 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever–changing. The emergence of new species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats, negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species (Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked: recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways, usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017). Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the Southern Black Forest revealed that red–deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active ... Most landslides occurred on the forested mountain slopes around the Liquine–Ofqui Fault. The landslides cause any fatalities nor significate economic damage due to being uninhabited. However, one landslide caused destruction and alarm following the blockage of the outflow of Rinihue Lake. The water level of the lake quickly rises, causing floods near other lakes and towns. • 13. 1982 Nfas The Airport and Airway Act of 1982 chartered the FAA to address the growing aviation traffic flying through major airports in the United States. The FAA generated the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS modernized and replaced the 1970 National Airport System Plan. The NPIAS focuses on the metric of enplanements, the number of boarding passengers at an airport, to aid in the delineation among airports categorized as a Commercial Service (Primary), General Aviation (GA), or Reliever Airport (Young, p. 11). The FAA generates a NPIAS report and delivers it to "...Congress with a 5–year estimate of AIP [Airport Improvement Plan] eligible development every two years" ("Federal Aviation," para.1). According to the article "Plastic Bags Wars", "the world consumes 1 million plastic shopping bags every minute". Plastic bags, along with many other types of plastics, have become a leading source of pollution worldwide (Doucette). Kostigen describes this area to be one and a half times the United States with a depth of 100 feet or more (Krostigen). The size of this garbage patch is so massive, encompassing around ten million square miles of the North Pacific Gyre. On the other hand, according to "An Ocean of Plastic", Doucette claims that nobody knows its exact size or if it has any boundaries at all. (Doucette). Although there have been many estimations on the size Hinton 4 of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the exact size remains unknown. In addition, Doucette warns us that this patch contains more than ten million tons of waste. She describes the area to be a "fetid swamp of debris where tiny bits of decaying plastic outweigh zooplankton– one of the most prolific and abundant organisms on the planet– by a ration of six–to–one"(Doucette). The four ecologies are the flatlands, beach cities, freeways, and foothills, which Los Angeles encapsulates within its boundaries. Each of these different environments allow architecture to take on its own form, addressing each place but at the same time alluding to it's neighboring setting. Since Los Angeles was not as dense as other cities during its creation, Banham argues that more "adaptations" were made for motor transport, with architecture involving it. Los Angeles, as a city sprawl, owes its form to the earlier modes of transport and property lines. Originally transport began with the Camino Real and then the train. From these two modes of transport, it was the train that had the most influence on how Los Angeles was master planned. In its early stages, it had train lines coming from the pueblo to San Fernando, San Bernardino, Anaheim, Wilmington, and Santa Monica. It was not until later on that the freeways duplicated these movements, allowing for widespread construction all connected via the automobile. Lastly, Banham states that LA architecture is not about integrated design, but rather that "every part is conceived in separated isolation and of symbolic assemblage". Buildings ... • 29. Essay On Gentrification Of Venice This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I've spent a fairly good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two–bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long–term residents. As a social worker, one could possibly visit several different neighborhoods in a single week. Because of the vast variety of clients that a social worker may encounter, cultural competency and sensitivity is an important concept in this field of work. According to Garthwait (2016), a social worker "must be capable of recognizing, respecting, and accommodating differences while treating all clients with fairness and equality under the law" (p.110). The capability to understand a client's culture, values, perspective, and life experiences is crucial in determining which services will best suit the individual. Every client is unique and needs to be treated as such. Thus becoming familiar with a community, a social worker can better assist clients with their needs. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession. In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July 2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four–year period between July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California's rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9 percent. Another downside was that an estimated 1.4 million Californians were underemployed, many working in low paying, part–time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many workers found themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills were largely unused. Although the federal government declared that the "Great Recession" had hit its low regression and the hoped–for economic recovery had begun in December 2009, California continued to suffer from the ill effects of the financial blow. During the recession period manufacturing, finance and real estate industries had experienced the most and lost many workers. • 73. Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment... Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man–made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. There he told the gods what truly happened and returned the bolt to it's proper owner: Zeus.
