Persuasive Essay On The Role Of Children In Foster Care
As a child can you imagine experiencing neglect or abuse and being removed from your home into a
home where you are not allowed to participate in activities that normal children are allowed to
participate in? Can you imagine the experience of going to court to receive permission to go on a
school field trip or asking your friend's parents to complete a background check in order for you to
stay the night? As if the experience of losing your guardian is not enough, imagine being told you
are not allowed to freely participate in field trips, sports, dates, or any extracurricular activities and
the thought of the extensive criteria you must go through in order to partake in any of these
activities. . The thought of telling a foster child that they cannot join a school team, or go to their
high school prom was not an easy conversation for a long period of time. Up until September of
2014, children of foster care were not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities that their
peers not in foster care may be able to participate in such as sports, sleepovers, dates, and etc. Under
the law "Prevent Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families" Act, H.R. 4980 prudent parent
standards was established (Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standard – IFAPA", 2017, para. 1) Laws
were beginning to be established independently at state level but this law passed by Congress made
the law effective throughout the entire United States (Epstein & Lancour, 2016). "The reasonable

The Sleepover Dilemma Summary
Each day, a lot of parents are asked the question if the boyfriend or girlfriend of their teenager could
sleep at home for the night. That question opens a dilemma about the maturity of each person and
their responsibilities related to the new situation in the presence of their parents. The point of view
of the parents about this question change according to the values they are supporting and their
experiences as teenagers. On the other hand, the adolescent are usually open to their boyfriend or
girlfriend to come to sleepover because it makes them feel more mature. The article The Sleepover
Dilemma, that I read before writing this text, explore many answers given by different people
(mother, father, adolescent) about the dilemma.
I believe that parents should allow their sons or daughters to invite their boyfriend or girlfriend to
sleepover because it's proven that avoiding a subject (in this case ; sexuality and relationships) can
increase the experiences and the desire of discovery feeled by these same teenagers. In the case of
sexuality, some unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease can occur. Also, I don't think
that facts denial has a great incidence on their realization and having open discussion about different
subjects can open people's mind. As well, I would ask the question : Why should the age of maturity
should be the same for everyone? Because I think that we all attain our maturity at the same age.
In this text, I will explain why I think that the

Personal Narrative Analysis
Before the age of three I had an array of tests performed on me that most people do not have in a
lifetime, including ultrasounds, MRIs, CAT scans, and endoscopies. However, none of the tests told
the doctors what was wrong. They could not figure out what was causing me, starting at only one
years old, to throw up starting at 3 A.M. and ending at 12 P.M., at least two nights a week. This went
on for years. My parents and I became accustomed to these recurring "episodes" because
medications only worked for so long, eventually my body would become used to them and the
doctors would have to figure out what to prescribe me next. By the age of ten, I had outgrown my
mysterious illness, but, I am still working to outgrow all of the struggles it ... Show more content on

It robbed me of so much. I am still afraid to eat, afraid to try new foods because of the fear of
getting sick. I am 16 years old and still order chicken fingers off of the kid's menu when I go out to
eat. It took away Christmases from me. There were years that I was so sick I could not spend my
favorite holiday with my family. I am grateful that I was able to go to school, have friends, and
participate in activities, but this could only happen during the day. To me, the day was safety, but the
night was unknown. There was never a schedule I could check to see if tonight was a night when I
would get sick. Even after the doctors told me I had outgrown it, I could not help but think that one
day the force that took over my life for 9 years, would return. That fear caused me to never want to
be out of my parent's care late at night and to not sleepover a friends house until I was 14 years old.
The night of my first sleepover was nerve racking. I was doubtful that I would actually stay over.
Then, I began to think that if I wanted to be happy and be just like all of my friends, I could not keep
living in my sheltered life. From my internal pep–talk I decided to persevere and spend the night.
When I woke up the morning after my first sleepover and realized I made it through the night,
everything changed. It was the beginning of the life I had always wanted to

My First Sleepover: The Decline Of Powerful Hispanic Women
I suppose I became a leader before I was placed on this earth. I did not have a choice but rather an
obligation. From a previous long line of powerful Hispanic women, the world created me to
generate a new and advance age of leadership. It began with my grandmothers, the matriarchs of the
family. At a young age, my grandmothers were raised in a traditional and patriotic society. Like
many other uneducated and impoverished women, they were exploited for the physical traits and
oppressed by the traditional standard of living. By the age of 15, both my grandmothers would have
suffered miscarriages, pregnancy and poverty. At the age of 15, I was learning how to drive, I was
reading intricate novels and I was attending my first sleepover. The difference

Cole And Jackie
1. Do you think that Cole and Jackie will fall in love? With all the chaos going on inside the Walter's
house Cole and Jackie will end up finding tons of time to be alone and start to like each other. Jackie
is trying to deny the fact that she has feelings for Cole. Her friends think otherwise. Many times you
will find Cole alone with Jackie in her room. Cole is also known for not to committing to a girl and
just dating more than one girl at once so having Jackie might change Cole to have his first
relationship that he commits too. 2. Do you think that Jackie will ever become one of the Walter's?

Jackie needs let out her emotions so she is not keeping it inside her. The more time she keeps things

ratting her out to their parents? The boys will forgive her but it will take them some time. Jackie did
not know the boys had an oath and she wanted to take blame for what she did. The boys needs to
give Jackie some slack because she is having a hard time dealing with her family accident. They
don't realize how hard it is to move to another state live with 12 boys and go to a new school. They
will understand all that she is going through and forgive her for telling on them. 5. Will Jackie's
friend Heather get over her obsession with Cole? Once Jackie has her sleepover Heather will realize
how Cole is just like any other guy. Jackie will have to try really hard to get Heather to realize that
he is not that special. During the sleepover Heather will probably be trying to hang with Cole that
whole time. The only thing that she will talk about is Cole. After the sleepover she will probably

Pros And Cons Of Having A Recovery Sleepover With Your Girls
Empty chocolate boxes, greasy hair, room gloomy and stuffy, what's the point of it all? When you
break up with someone, why not think about the good times you've had with the person than
thinking about the break up? The good times may turn to sad memories knowing that they have
officially ended with that person, but you should never forget you actually had quality times him or
her. Deleting all the pictures and videos off your phone will not help, doing that will always leave
you wondering or trying to remember what they were like because you most likely have not talked
to them since the break up. Having a recovery sleepover with your girls is much better than trying to
be depressed and dramatic, alone in your room. If depression and sadness

Discovering Nemo
It's a blessing from heaven. On June 24, 100 under–served kids from Ashley HomeStore's Hope to
Dream philanthropy and The Salvation Army got the chance to have "a definitive" sleepover
experience when they spent the night on the same football field that the Dallas Cowboys play on at
AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The kiddos got the opportunity to meet players and team
promoters, chow down on pizza and leave with some genuine swag – including the beds they spent
the night on, the Houston Chronicle reported. After the sleepover, Ashley Furniture conveyed the
beds to every tyke's home. The children were invited to the stadium with a celebrity main street
entry and were directed to the Cowboys' locker room where star cornerback, Brandon ... Show more

Every bed had a tyke's name on it and accompanied a teddy bear, football, Dallas Cowboy sheets
and comforter and photographs of the group. Once every child had discovered their new bed, they
were served Papa John's pizza, played in skip houses, occupied with a hula challenge, tossed
footballs around with players, did the Cupid Shuffle with Carr and watched "Discovering Nemo" on
the immense HD video board that hangs over the field. This is the second year the Cowboys and
Ashley HomeStore have facilitated the occasion. Plan to Dream was built up by Ashley HomeStore
in 2010 with the objective of giving youngsters in need a sleeping pad. For each sleeping pad sold at
an Ashley HomeStore, the store gives $5 to give bedding sets. On the off chance that a unique Hope

Furniture HomeStore, more than 40,000 beds have been given to kids the country over and around
the globe
–including the children at a definitive sleepover occasion. "One of the young ladies said
this was the greatest day of her life," Scott Erdmann, supervisor of corporate organizations for the
Dallas Cowboys, said on the group's site. "The first occasion when she's ever had a teddy bear and

Intercultural Communication Sterotyping Blocks
Many times we find ourselves having a conversation with anyone crossing our path (how else are
we supposed to make lifetime friends or just finding good company), and just to be friendly we
unconsciously reveal a seemingly innocent smile. Most Americans find themselves in this situation.
According to LaRay Barna (1976), the author of Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks
"Do not believe that the simple experience of talking with someone insure a successful transfer of
meaning and feeling" (LaRay Barna, Page 66), in other words we do not know what can be
interpreted by a harmless smile. Barna (1976) goes over the reactions of three foreign students to
one nonverbal behavior. A Japanese student stated "If someone smiled at a stranger in ... Show more

At this time my mother worked unreasonable hours in a factory, and this devastated my father
because he knew he would have to take over my mother's role, insure my safety and meet the family
of where their little girl would stay the night. I remember this day vividly, my father wearing his
best clothes, breathing heavily, and under his breath practicing what he would say as we approached
the door. Before knocking he looked over at me one last time and said " Hello my name is Juan
Calderon my daughter will he staying here tonight" I gave my father a reassuring smile and a
thumbs up, he smiled back and soon after he knocked on the door. I never really understood why my
father became so nervous when it came to meeting Americans, but growing up I was able to
understand more and more how my Hispanic culture differed from the American culture. When
observing, the difference which stood out to me was how incredibly friendly, loud, and excited we
get when meeting people who share our Hispanic background, when it came to Americans you
would hardly see the friendliness and excitement compared to Hispanics. The day my father took me
to my friend's sleepover he was not only shy but also unaware of how to communicate non–verbally,
he was uncertain if it was polite to shake hands or shake hands and hug, but most importantly he did
not want the other parents to think he was rude. In the passage Barna (1976) states "It is likely,
however, that the foreigner actually understood very little of the verbal and non–verbal content and
was merely indicating polite interest or trying not to embarrass himself or his host with verbalized
questions" (Barna, Page 68), I agree with Barnas statement because at

Persuasive Essay On Strict Parents
Rough Draft Research shows that kids who grew up in an authoritarian household are more likely to
suffer from traits such as anxiety and depression. The definition of the word strict defines as this,
demanding total obedience or observance, this word seems to be most logical if applied to where the
army is concerned, but it is a guideline to how my parents raised my siblings and me throughout our
lives. For those who didn't grow up having strict parents cannot necessarily relate to some of the
experiences that I have had, but they may begin to see how it is like to live the life that I do with
enforced rules and behavior. Often throughout my childhood and well into my teenage years, I have
heard the following statements numerous times: "why can't you?' "are you sure that your parents
won't let you?" "you don't know unless you ask." They ask these questions as if the person before
them and the person before them didn't ask these very same ones. I have come to learn that it was
just easier to say that I was busy with chores or I had too much homework to do in order to avoid
these tedious questions. Of course, it was not as if we were in the military and we had to stand in
attention, but some of the aspects were there. Majority of my life until fifth grade had been spent in
Owasso, Oklahoma in a spacious neighborhood filled with all walks of life. The houses came in
numerous different sizes i.e, one story, two–story and the houses themselves were dotted along little

Well at this overnight we did our hair, nails, and got facials. To start off two girls were braiding hair,
so I got my hair braided before the facial for obvious reasons; your hair could get in the facial mask.
After my hair was braided I got my facial mask applied. I choose the green one instead of the brown
mud one, for the green one cleared pores, while the brown one just made your skin soft. You don't
need soft skin if you wear foundation. While I was looking identical to an ogre, I painted my nails
my favorite color: white. I love painting my nails white, for white goes with everything, and it's
pretty and stands out. While we still had our face masks on, we took loads of photos. Talking is a big
part of what girls do on sleepovers and I felt as if the overnight was just one big sleepover, and it
could have been the best sleepover ever. What we talked about? Well let's just say that what happens
in the cabin stays in the cabin. I love talking and I learned more about people that I didn't know

Not Under My Roof Essay
In What Ways do American Parents and Dutch Parents Differ in their Thinking of alcohol Use?
In the book Not Under My Roof, a comparison of parenting approaches and views from the point of
view American parents and Dutch Parents on issues such as, sex, teen pregnancy, love, sleepovers
with girlfriends and boyfriends, alcohol use and other matters that most parents worry about.
Looking at the parent's thoughts on drinking, American parents have a tendency to be stricter. In
comparison, Dutch parents tend to believe their teens are more trusting that their kids will make
more responsible decisions. This book shows that there is another way to deal with controversial
issues, Dutch parents have a more accepting attitude towards alcohol use and American parent, for
the most part, do not.
First, you have the American parents with what some would consider a strict kind of view of alcohol
use. Most American parents prohibit drinking in their household. The American parents view on
drinking:

Descriptive Essay About My Family
Every household does sleepovers a little differently than all the rest, varying in scale and frequency
among a wide variety of traits. Around three years ago from the current date, my family made plans
for my younger cousins to have a week–long sleepover over at my house. Inside my mind, I was
musing, "This better not get too loud." Each of my cousins had a tendency to get pretty noisy with
very little reprieve in–between, and it got amazingly ear–splitting. Tyler, the youngest, was the king
of noise as it turned out. He was very bouncy and rambunctious, and verbally fought with my
brother literally every single visit. Alexis – the middle cousin – was far easier to handle, and much
more down to earth, but she wasn't free from bickering with her brother either. In fact, the duo
almost seemed to quarrel even more; and admittedly that would not be a surprising discovery to
make. Finally, there was Bernice: the eldest and the most mature. The two of us were like kindred
spirits, despite the fact that she didn't visit often. I very much enjoy spending some of my time with
her with Seany, and every visit is a quite pleasant gift to have on my hands. Still, that didn't mean I
was ready to have my ears stuffed with a cacophony of sheer chaos. "It won't be too bad," my
mother assured me through my idle commentary. Throughout the week, we had been cleaning and
preparing the house for our cousins' incoming arrival. Seany and I had plenty to accomplish in the
interim – bathrooms,

began to relate to it. First, I would like to say that I completely agree with his description of his
brain being even more hungry for the net even after feeding it. Towards the end of the story, he
mentions "..it was hungry. It was demnading to be fed the way the Net fed it– and the more it was
fed, the hungrier it became." I was born in the generation of technology, maybe a bit earlier, yet it
became a strong hold on American minds for as long as I remember. My experience with technology
has overpowered my ability to do anything. It has also

Jordan Preshong Suicide
Jordan Preshong did something tons of kids her age do – she went to a sleepover. Sadly, the 11–
year–old girl never woke up from her night of fun at her friend's house, WPVI reports. The girl was
found unresponsive at her neighbor's house the next morning after her friend last saw her awake
around 1:30 a.m. playing around on her iPad. Her death remains a mystery after an investigation,
even though police released the autopsy results 24 hours. According to FOX29, Northeast
Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum explained: "There was no sign of trauma or foul play. They have
a couple tests; a neuropathology test and a toxicology test that we're waiting to come back." NBC10

Personal Narrative-Stereotypes
It all started in second grade with bickering, name calling, darting eyes and especially tattle taling.
She was mean and irritating and would tell the teacher on everything I did. I was so disgusted with
people who picked their noses, that I decided to tell on Hannah every time she did. Even though
everyone did it, I always told on Hannah. Over the years it would continue, until seventh grade. My
mortal enemy became my friend. Time went by way too fast. We were paired up together in a group
of four for this commercial on a Canadian province. Our group filmed outside by the playground.
We ended up not finishing it in class like everyone else. Since Hannah didn't cooperate much in the
group, we decided to edit the video at her house. Adaora was ... Show more content on

Basically best friends. We would Facetime and message each other every day. Time flies by and it's
8th grade. Everyone had already formed their cliques. Hannah and I weren't in the same clique, and
didn't sit at the same table. Hannah wasn't very popular and hung out with the "lame people." I
encouraged Hannah to sit with me. My friends were absolutely rude and mean about it at first, but
then they got to know her and she felt like she belonged. I felt overjoyed for her. One day,
something terrible had happened in math class. These two kids named Joey and Peter who were
popular jocks, called this girl named Brianna ugly. It was because Brianna stood up for this kid
named Eric, who was being bullied by them. Hannah told them that it wasn't nice. Then they
continually called her loser and dumb until she started crying. Hannah went up to me and I asked
her what was wrong. She told me what had happened, and I felt so anxious. What I was going to do
took guts. I marched over with my friend Adaora. "Stop it! Bullying isn't okay! Shut up!""Yeah, cut
it out. It's not cool. You're hurting her feelings.", Adaora said. They then stopped and were quiet the
whole class period. Hannah was about to leave school, but I told her that I was always going to be
there for her, no matter what happens. I felt courageous. It beyond doubt made our friendship so

Summary Of Amy Schalet's Essay The Sleepover Question
The essay "The Sleepover Question" was a very interesting read about teenagers and sex. Amy
Schalet uses ethos in this essay by explaining that she has interviewed girls and parents from the
Netherlands. By interviewing parents and their children, it gives off a sense of credibility to the
reader. Also it shows she has some knowledge of what she is discussing and is able to give the
reader an opinion based on those interviews.
Pathos is interpreted in this essay because she uses the emotions of the topic at hand which is sex in
the parent's home as a way to draw you in.
The first sentence "NOT under my roof!" is a sentence that's implies the discussion will be very
opinionated for everyone. Another use of pathos is when Schalet discusses

Personal Narrative: Jessie And Catherine
Imagine having all of your best friends living right next to you. This is how I felt when I grew up
with my neighbors, Jessie and Catherine. Between four–wheeling, camping, and slumber parties, we
all had grown up with each other acting more like sisters than neighbors. I don't remember exactly
moving, but I had lived in Belleville for the first couple of years of my life. My parents bought a
house in the middle of nowhere, about 1 mile from Fayetteville, and we had exactly two neighboring
houses. Across the street we had the Claytons and right beside our house and up the hill we had the
Nordhaus's. The Claytons had 4 children: Tim, Lisa, Daniel, and Catherine. Catherine was 2 years
older than me, so naturally I was closer to her. The Nordhaus's had two children: Cory and Jessie.
Jessie was two years younger than me, so we were close also. Between us three girls, Jessie, ...

Although we were all never in high school together we still hung out. Catherine would give me
pointers on classes I should and should not take, that I later passed on to Jessie. Some nights we
would all jump in Catherine's car and go driving around. She had these crazy mixtape CD's that we
would jam out to even though Jessie and I had no clue what half the songs were. I now currently
have those CD's playing in my car that I will handoff to Jessie when I graduate. Although Catherine
has moved on to life in Colorado, the three of us still talk every once in awhile when Catherine
comes home. We all pick up on conversations and stories like there was no time missed. Although I
didn't get to decide on moving, I am glad the decision was made. I made two really good friends that
have many of my secrets with them. Sadly, we don't have our annual camping together anymore and
we aren't all together anymore. Although I don't see them as much as I used, I know these two
friendships will pick up where they left off last time we were all

Hercules Persuasive Speech
"And then along came Zeus..." Oh how I love this movie. Disney's Hercules is probably as close as
mainstream media will get to the original , and still keep it G–rated. I need this now. This has not
been the best day. You see, today is my friend, Paige's, birthday. She had a sleepover, and invited
me, and my other friend Faith. I gaze at Faith's black frizzy rat's nest. I wonder, how did this
sleepover go so wrong? See, most of the sleepover went well. We played truth or dare, talked about
boys, TPed Mrs.Dunbar's house, made some prank calls, and played Dragon Age: Inquisition on
Paige's Xbox. But that was when the party went wrong.

Parenting: Amy Chua vs. Hanna Rosin
Is there a right way to raise your child? There are really no set rules on how to raise your child, as
we can see throughout the articles written by Amy Chua, a self–described "Chinese Tiger Mom" and
Hanna Rosin, a "Western Mother," in The Wall Street Journal in January 2011. These articles show
that the two authors have completely different parenting styles. On one hand, Amy Chua believes
kids should not go to sleepovers, be in school plays, and get anything less than A's in school except
for gym. Meanwhile, Hannah Rosin believes that children need some freedom to express
themselves. There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Living in a household with western style parenting, I disagree with Amy Chua. Yes, your parents
want you to do better but most do not run and blame it on the school or school system.
The next big difference concerns extracurricular and social activities for children. Chua opposes
sleepovers and play dates. Like Rosin, if I had children I would definitely allow them to have
sleepovers. Throughout my life some of my best memories of me and my friends revolved around
them. Sleepovers and play dates (especially) are an essential part of childhood because it helps with
social and trust skills. The next good topic Rosin mentioned was "the oddest part of Ms. Chua's
parenting prescription is that it exists wholly apart from any passion or talent." (Rosin) If you are
going to play an instrument it should be for the love of it and not the "fame" or awards. According to
Chua "Chinese parents believe they know what is best for their children and therefore override all of
their children's own desires and preferences." They also believe their children owe them everything
and must repay them by obeying them and making them proud. Chua gives the example of when her
daughter was seven and could not play a piano piece properly, Chua threatened to give away her
dollhouse piece by piece, not give her food, Christmas or Hanukah presents, or birthday parties until
she got the piano piece right.

Sex, Love And Autonomy And The Teenage Sleepover By Amy T....
Gender For those of us that are parents, we know that raising a child to adulthood is not an easy task
but one which we do lovingly (hopefully) and responsibly. I'll go out on a limb to say here that
everyone agrees that the teenage years are the most challenging. The general consensus is that
teenagers are unruly, aggressive, careless, spoiled and dependent on technology. On the other hand, I
believe along with a small group of other parents that teenagers are also brilliant and in the process
of becoming and reaching their potential and that they deserve much more respect than what they
are given. In Reading #20 "Sex, Love and Autonomy in the Teenage Sleepover" authored by Amy T.
Schalet, the question is asked whether you, as a parent, would allow your teen to have a sleepover
with their boyfriend or girlfriend, and how does gender fall into the equation. In the article, Schalet
informs us about teens and their sexual behaviors through various statistics and graphs. In her
findings she compares The United States with The Netherlands and how these different cultures
view this topic. While the majority of American parents oppose a sleepover, Dutch teenagers who
have steady relationships are allowed to spend the night with their boyfriends or girlfriends in their
rooms. It would seem that parents and kids, according to Schalet, experience sex, gender and
relationships very differently in the two countries. Several sociologists and psychologists who have

More Than A Sleepover: The Foster Family Crisis
More Than A Sleepover: The Foster Family Crisis in America
Twenty–one year old Claudia Felder lives in Chino, California in a lovely home, with three sweet
dogs, and most importantly, a family. One would never think that this well off young lady was once
living a life inside foster care. She entered the system when she was just three years old, when most
preschoolers were busy having play dates and learning to color within the lines. Claudia's earliest
memories instead were of her mom being beaten in a motel room. After that experience, Felder
entered the foster system and stayed there for the next ten years. With not enough foster families in
the system, she was bounced around wherever a bed was available. Her lack of a consistent foster ...

Beep, Beep, Beep the sound of my alarm clock wakes me up and I get my helmet strapped, click

gets louder and louder as the screaming goes on. We lose another five yards, and then we have to
switch sides because our time limit is up. We are on defense, coach puts me out at defensive corner.
The wide receiver runs at full speed and blocks me and I try to run but he is holding me then I hear
the whistle. I go to the ref and yell, at him and say I'm being held so open your eyes. The players
line up again and the run is to my side I run up and seal the outside and hit the runner to the
sidelines. Then they decide to run to my side again the runner is grunting as he runs toward me and

Helicopter Parents Essay
Within the past several years, I have seen many new ideas and theories as to how children should be
reared. One change that I have witnessed firsthand is the difference in the role a parent plays in their
child's life. In the article called "Helicopter Parents" Stir up Anxiety, Depression, the ideas
expressed were not the same my parents had when raising me. Some of the ideas expressed in said
article I resonated with as a child whose parents leaned towards being helicopters while others I did
not agree with as wholeheartedly.
One point made by the article was that being a "helicopter parent" causes the child to become to
dependent once they move away from home. While this is an issue, it does not appear to be as big of
a problem as the article implied. Of all the people I know, the worst form of dependency is an
individual being too financially dependent on their family. I personally believe that there can be a
healthy level of guarding your children. For example, while growing up, my family never allowed ...

In fact, I have several close friends who get apartments or rent rooms during the summer while
working full time so they do not go back home for the break. I found it very interesting that in the
article it said that my generation is moving back into their parents' houses because they are so
dependent. In all of the cases I have seen, people my age move back home after college until they
are able to find a job in the field of their degree. I have one friend in particular that had her own
apartment during college, but then once she graduated she had to move back in with her family until
she could find a stable job with which to pay for her own housing. Of course there are exceptions to
everything, but most are not itching to move back in and get back to their old way of

Along with the wardrobe change, he also convinced his parents to let him use contact lens' and went

Creative Writing: I Will Be The Best Sleepover Ever !
Winter's bright red pajamas had been splashed with white as pillows smashed into her. She could
feel herself perspire, beads of salty sweat dripping down her face. She felt her energy dwindle, and
she fell from the bed in defeat. Winter managed to groan, "Man down..."
"YES! I AM THE QUEEN OF PILLOWLANDIA! AND I SHALL BE THE FIRST TO EAT
DESSERT!" Arianna announced triumphantly.
"Aw man, you won again. Why can't you go easy on us?" Hannah protested. Winter, Hannah, and
Arianna were having a blast. They were having their 50th sleepover, a night that, as Arianna put it,
"Should be the best sleepover ever!" But Winter wasn't very excited. The guilt of her grades
weighed her down like a bag of boulders. Her last homework assignment earned her a fifty in math,
and her ELA test score, she couldn't even imagine how low her grade was now. At least Arianna and
Hannah were failing, too. But however far her grades dropped, she was grateful she wasn't like

aced all of her classes, and won certificates in nearly every contest the school held.
If only Winter's life were that easy. She could spend her whole life partying with her friends, and

The First Week Of School
The first week of school was finally coming to an end and she had a wonderful idea. Each day after
work she had come up with one excuse after another to put off his request to stop by her home to
study. At least, that's what she had believed. With his help, homework had become less time
consuming than a thought. It was completed within minutes shortly after they had arrived at the mall
for their part–time job and an overall subject review during each break. Each exam they had taken
that day was so simple that she was shocked that it seemed as if they had not prepared for any of the
test at all. She had never finished any exam first (actually second) in her life. The squeak in delight
after she blew through the first exam wasn't called for, but it did feel good. The person who had
finished first didn't look happy about it and she was sure for all the wrong reasons. Well, Ericson did
deserve a bit of reassuring that she wasn't using him as a tutor, but as her actual boyfriend. Her
bright idea was so simple that she couldn't help but to smile whenever she looked in his direction
after that first exam. She laid out her plan in her mind and went over it again and again. The mall
wasn't due to open until 10:00 that Saturday and they weren't expected to report to work until 9:30.
She decided it would be a special treat to pay call to Ericson's home and have morning meal with
him. She was certain by her taking this initiative it would surly change his thoughts of

Persuasive Essay On The Role Of Children In Foster Care

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On The Role Of Children In Foster Care As a child can you imagine experiencing neglect or abuse and being removed from your home into a home where you are not allowed to participate in activities that normal children are allowed to participate in? Can you imagine the experience of going to court to receive permission to go on a school field trip or asking your friend's parents to complete a background check in order for you to stay the night? As if the experience of losing your guardian is not enough, imagine being told you are not allowed to freely participate in field trips, sports, dates, or any extracurricular activities and the thought of the extensive criteria you must go through in order to partake in any of these activities. . The thought of telling a foster child that they cannot join a school team, or go to their high school prom was not an easy conversation for a long period of time. Up until September of 2014, children of foster care were not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities that their peers not in foster care may be able to participate in such as sports, sleepovers, dates, and etc. Under the law "Prevent Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families" Act, H.R. 4980 prudent parent standards was established (Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standard – IFAPA", 2017, para. 1) Laws were beginning to be established independently at state level but this law passed by Congress made the law effective throughout the entire United States (Epstein & Lancour, 2016). • 3. The Sleepover Dilemma Summary Each day, a lot of parents are asked the question if the boyfriend or girlfriend of their teenager could sleep at home for the night. That question opens a dilemma about the maturity of each person and their responsibilities related to the new situation in the presence of their parents. The point of view of the parents about this question change according to the values they are supporting and their experiences as teenagers. On the other hand, the adolescent are usually open to their boyfriend or girlfriend to come to sleepover because it makes them feel more mature. The article The Sleepover Dilemma, that I read before writing this text, explore many answers given by different people (mother, father, adolescent) about the dilemma. I believe that parents should allow their sons or daughters to invite their boyfriend or girlfriend to sleepover because it's proven that avoiding a subject (in this case ; sexuality and relationships) can increase the experiences and the desire of discovery feeled by these same teenagers. In the case of sexuality, some unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease can occur. Also, I don't think that facts denial has a great incidence on their realization and having open discussion about different subjects can open people's mind. As well, I would ask the question : Why should the age of maturity should be the same for everyone? Because I think that we all attain our maturity at the same age. In this text, I will explain why I think that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative Analysis Before the age of three I had an array of tests performed on me that most people do not have in a lifetime, including ultrasounds, MRIs, CAT scans, and endoscopies. However, none of the tests told the doctors what was wrong. They could not figure out what was causing me, starting at only one years old, to throw up starting at 3 A.M. and ending at 12 P.M., at least two nights a week. This went on for years. My parents and I became accustomed to these recurring "episodes" because medications only worked for so long, eventually my body would become used to them and the doctors would have to figure out what to prescribe me next. By the age of ten, I had outgrown my mysterious illness, but, I am still working to outgrow all of the struggles it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It robbed me of so much. I am still afraid to eat, afraid to try new foods because of the fear of getting sick. I am 16 years old and still order chicken fingers off of the kid's menu when I go out to eat. It took away Christmases from me. There were years that I was so sick I could not spend my favorite holiday with my family. I am grateful that I was able to go to school, have friends, and participate in activities, but this could only happen during the day. To me, the day was safety, but the night was unknown. There was never a schedule I could check to see if tonight was a night when I would get sick. Even after the doctors told me I had outgrown it, I could not help but think that one day the force that took over my life for 9 years, would return. That fear caused me to never want to be out of my parent's care late at night and to not sleepover a friends house until I was 14 years old. The night of my first sleepover was nerve racking. I was doubtful that I would actually stay over. Then, I began to think that if I wanted to be happy and be just like all of my friends, I could not keep living in my sheltered life. From my internal pep–talk I decided to persevere and spend the night. When I woke up the morning after my first sleepover and realized I made it through the night, everything changed. • 7. My First Sleepover: The Decline Of Powerful Hispanic Women I suppose I became a leader before I was placed on this earth. I did not have a choice but rather an obligation. From a previous long line of powerful Hispanic women, the world created me to generate a new and advance age of leadership. It began with my grandmothers, the matriarchs of the family. At a young age, my grandmothers were raised in a traditional and patriotic society. Like many other uneducated and impoverished women, they were exploited for the physical traits and oppressed by the traditional standard of living. By the age of 15, both my grandmothers would have suffered miscarriages, pregnancy and poverty. At the age of 15, I was learning how to drive, I was reading intricate novels and I was attending my first sleepover. The difference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They don't realize how hard it is to move to another state live with 12 boys and go to a new school. They will understand all that she is going through and forgive her for telling on them. 5. Will Jackie's friend Heather get over her obsession with Cole? Once Jackie has her sleepover Heather will realize how Cole is just like any other guy. Jackie will have to try really hard to get Heather to realize that he is not that special. During the sleepover Heather will probably be trying to hang with Cole that whole time. When you break up with someone, why not think about the good times you've had with the person than thinking about the break up? The good times may turn to sad memories knowing that they have officially ended with that person, but you should never forget you actually had quality times him or her. Deleting all the pictures and videos off your phone will not help, doing that will always leave you wondering or trying to remember what they were like because you most likely have not talked to them since the break up. On June 24, 100 under–served kids from Ashley HomeStore's Hope to Dream philanthropy and The Salvation Army got the chance to have "a definitive" sleepover experience when they spent the night on the same football field that the Dallas Cowboys play on at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The kiddos got the opportunity to meet players and team promoters, chow down on pizza and leave with some genuine swag – including the beds they spent the night on, the Houston Chronicle reported. Plan to Dream was built up by Ashley HomeStore in 2010 with the objective of giving youngsters in need a sleeping pad. • 21. Intercultural Communication Sterotyping Blocks Many times we find ourselves having a conversation with anyone crossing our path (how else are we supposed to make lifetime friends or just finding good company), and just to be friendly we unconsciously reveal a seemingly innocent smile. Most Americans find themselves in this situation. According to LaRay Barna (1976), the author of Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks "Do not believe that the simple experience of talking with someone insure a successful transfer of meaning and feeling" (LaRay Barna, Page 66), in other words we do not know what can be interpreted by a harmless smile. At this time my mother worked unreasonable hours in a factory, and this devastated my father because he knew he would have to take over my mother's role, insure my safety and meet the family of where their little girl would stay the night. I remember this day vividly, my father wearing his best clothes, breathing heavily, and under his breath practicing what he would say as we approached the door. Before knocking he looked over at me one last time and said " Hello my name is Juan Calderon my daughter will he staying here tonight" I gave my father a reassuring smile and a thumbs up, he smiled back and soon after he knocked on the door. I never really understood why my father became so nervous when it came to meeting Americans, but growing up I was able to understand more and more how my Hispanic culture differed from the American culture. When observing, the difference which stood out to me was how incredibly friendly, loud, and excited we get when meeting people who share our Hispanic background, when it came to Americans you would hardly see the friendliness and excitement compared to Hispanics. The day my father took me to my friend's sleepover he was not only shy but also unaware of how to communicate non–verbally, he was uncertain if it was polite to shake hands or shake hands and hug, but most importantly he did not want the other parents to think he was rude. In the passage Barna (1976) states "It is likely, however, that the foreigner actually understood very little of the verbal and non–verbal content and was merely indicating polite interest or trying not to embarrass himself or his host with verbalized questions" (Barna, Page 68), I agree with Barnas statement because at ... • 23. Persuasive Essay On Strict Parents Rough Draft Research shows that kids who grew up in an authoritarian household are more likely to suffer from traits such as anxiety and depression. The definition of the word strict defines as this, demanding total obedience or observance, this word seems to be most logical if applied to where the army is concerned, but it is a guideline to how my parents raised my siblings and me throughout our lives. For those who didn't grow up having strict parents cannot necessarily relate to some of the experiences that I have had, but they may begin to see how it is like to live the life that I do with enforced rules and behavior. Often throughout my childhood and well into my teenage years, I have heard the following statements numerous times: "why can't you?' "are you sure that your parents won't let you?" "you don't know unless you ask." They ask these questions as if the person before them and the person before them didn't ask these very same ones. I have come to learn that it was just easier to say that I was busy with chores or I had too much homework to do in order to avoid these tedious questions. Of course, it was not as if we were in the military and we had to stand in attention, but some of the aspects were there. We go on this overnight every year to bond and get away from school. This year it was rainy and we thought it was going to be ruined, but we didn't let a little water stop us from having the time of our lives. My favorite part of the overnight was the time that I spent in the cabins with all the seventh and eighth grade girls. I thought it wasn't going to be fun, since we were with the seventh graders the whole time, but I changed my mindset and had a fun time anyways. To start off two girls were braiding hair, so I got my hair braided before the facial for obvious reasons; your hair could get in the facial mask. After my hair was braided I got my facial mask applied. I choose the green one instead of the brown mud one, for the green one cleared pores, while the brown one just made your skin soft. You don't need soft skin if you wear foundation. While I was looking identical to an ogre, I painted my nails my favorite color: white. I love painting my nails white, for white goes with everything, and it's pretty and stands out. While we still had our face masks on, we took loads of photos. Talking is a big part of what girls do on sleepovers and I felt as if the overnight was just one big sleepover, and it could have been the best sleepover ever. What we talked about? Well let's just say that what happens in the cabin stays in the cabin. I love talking and I learned more about people that I didn't know anything about, even though I had appreciated them from the beginning. In the book Not Under My Roof, a comparison of parenting approaches and views from the point of view American parents and Dutch Parents on issues such as, sex, teen pregnancy, love, sleepovers with girlfriends and boyfriends, alcohol use and other matters that most parents worry about. Looking at the parent's thoughts on drinking, American parents have a tendency to be stricter. In comparison, Dutch parents tend to believe their teens are more trusting that their kids will make more responsible decisions. This book shows that there is another way to deal with controversial issues, Dutch parents have a more accepting attitude towards alcohol use and American parent, for the most part, do not. • 36. Descriptive Essay About My Family Every household does sleepovers a little differently than all the rest, varying in scale and frequency among a wide variety of traits. Around three years ago from the current date, my family made plans for my younger cousins to have a week–long sleepover over at my house. Inside my mind, I was musing, "This better not get too loud." Each of my cousins had a tendency to get pretty noisy with very little reprieve in–between, and it got amazingly ear–splitting. Tyler, the youngest, was the king of noise as it turned out. He was very bouncy and rambunctious, and verbally fought with my brother literally every single visit. Alexis – the middle cousin – was far easier to handle, and much more down to earth, but she wasn't free from bickering with her brother either. In fact, the duo almost seemed to quarrel even more; and admittedly that would not be a surprising discovery to make. Finally, there was Bernice: the eldest and the most mature. The two of us were like kindred spirits, despite the fact that she didn't visit often. I very much enjoy spending some of my time with her with Seany, and every visit is a quite pleasant gift to have on my hands. Still, that didn't mean I was ready to have my ears stuffed with a cacophony of sheer chaos. "It won't be too bad," my mother assured me through my idle commentary. Throughout the week, we had been cleaning and preparing the house for our cousins' incoming arrival. Seany and I had plenty to accomplish in the interim – bathrooms, ... • 38. A Short Story : A Story? "Julianna dear! Wake up!" I heard a voice yell. I woke up startled and realized that it was 9:30 in the morning. "Julianna?" The voice asked. It was Robert's mother, Grandma Sherri. "Good morning," I yawned. "Get up deary!" She exclaimed. "Your father, mother, James, you and I are all going to the city for the day." "You mean Robert," I mumbled. "What sweetie?" She asked. "Um, nothing," I replied. "Well go ahead and get ready. Be upstairs by 10:00!" She reminded. "Sure Grandma!" I responded. So I got dressed in a floral blouse, some jean shorts, and some flats. I got my purse out of my closet, made sure there was money in my wallet, and unplugged my phone from the charger. Then I saw that Sophia had sent me some pictures. There was an image of the whole dance team holding a sign that said "We Miss You Juli!" I missed them too. I replied and I promised that I would send some pictures from the city. I raced up the steps and got my jacket on. "Ready!" I shouted to the family. "Coming dear," Grandma shouted from upstairs. About 10 minutes later, everyone was finally ready. We drove out about 35 minutes until we got to downtown Seattle. We had lunch there and then went to a little park. I was playing around with James when I heard my phone ringing. "Be right back guys, Sophia is calling me." I told my family. When I got to a quiet space I answered the call. "Hello?" Amy Schalet uses ethos in this essay by explaining that she has interviewed girls and parents from the Netherlands. By interviewing parents and their children, it gives off a sense of credibility to the reader. Also it shows she has some knowledge of what she is discussing and is able to give the reader an opinion based on those interviews. Pathos is interpreted in this essay because she uses the emotions of the topic at hand which is sex in the parent's home as a way to draw you in. The first sentence "NOT under my roof!" is a sentence that's implies the discussion will be very opinionated for everyone. Another use of pathos is when Schalet discusses ... Parenting: Amy Chua vs. Hanna Rosin Bridget Johnston Writing 101S Writing Assignment 1: Comparison and Contrast Essay March 22, 2015 Parenting: Amy Chua vs. Hanna Rosin Is there a right way to raise your child? There are really no set rules on how to raise your child, as we can see throughout the articles written by Amy Chua, a self–described "Chinese Tiger Mom" and Hanna Rosin, a "Western Mother," in The Wall Street Journal in January 2011. These articles show that the two authors have completely different parenting styles. On one hand, Amy Chua believes kids should not go to sleepovers, be in school plays, and get anything less than A's in school except for gym. Meanwhile, Hannah Rosin believes that children need some freedom to express themselves. There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Living in a household with western style parenting, I disagree with Amy Chua. Yes, your parents want you to do better but most do not run and blame it on the school or school system. The next big difference concerns extracurricular and social activities for children. Chua opposes sleepovers and play dates. Like Rosin, if I had children I would definitely allow them to have sleepovers. Throughout my life some of my best memories of me and my friends revolved around them. Sleepovers and play dates (especially) are an essential part of childhood because it helps with social and trust skills. The next good topic Rosin mentioned was "the oddest part of Ms. Chua's parenting prescription is that it exists wholly apart from any passion or talent." (Rosin) If you are going to play an instrument it should be for the love of it and not the "fame" or awards. According to Chua "Chinese parents believe they know what is best for their children and therefore override all of their children's own desires and preferences." They also believe their children owe them everything and must repay them by obeying them and making them proud. • 64. Sex, Love And Autonomy And The Teenage Sleepover By Amy T.... Gender For those of us that are parents, we know that raising a child to adulthood is not an easy task but one which we do lovingly (hopefully) and responsibly. I'll go out on a limb to say here that everyone agrees that the teenage years are the most challenging. The general consensus is that teenagers are unruly, aggressive, careless, spoiled and dependent on technology. On the other hand, I believe along with a small group of other parents that teenagers are also brilliant and in the process of becoming and reaching their potential and that they deserve much more respect than what they are given. In Reading #20 "Sex, Love and Autonomy in the Teenage Sleepover" authored by Amy T. Schalet, the question is asked whether you, as a parent, would allow your teen to have a sleepover with their boyfriend or girlfriend, and how does gender fall into the equation. In the article, Schalet informs us about teens and their sexual behaviors through various statistics and graphs. In her findings she compares The United States with The Netherlands and how these different cultures view this topic. While the majority of American parents oppose a sleepover, Dutch teenagers who have steady relationships are allowed to spend the night with their boyfriends or girlfriends in their rooms. It would seem that parents and kids, according to Schalet, experience sex, gender and relationships very differently in the two countries. Several sociologists and psychologists who have studied ... • 72. Helicopter Parents Essay Within the past several years, I have seen many new ideas and theories as to how children should be reared. One change that I have witnessed firsthand is the difference in the role a parent plays in their child's life. In the article called "Helicopter Parents" Stir up Anxiety, Depression, the ideas expressed were not the same my parents had when raising me. Some of the ideas expressed in said article I resonated with as a child whose parents leaned towards being helicopters while others I did not agree with as wholeheartedly. One point made by the article was that being a "helicopter parent" causes the child to become to dependent once they move away from home. While this is an issue, it does not appear to be as big of a problem as the article implied. Of all the people I know, the worst form of dependency is an individual being too financially dependent on their family. I personally believe that there can be a healthy level of guarding your children. For example, while growing up, my family never allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, I have several close friends who get apartments or rent rooms during the summer while working full time so they do not go back home for the break. I found it very interesting that in the article it said that my generation is moving back into their parents' houses because they are so dependent. In all of the cases I have seen, people my age move back home after college until they are able to find a job in the field of their degree. I have one friend in particular that had her own apartment during college, but then once she graduated she had to move back in with her family until she could find a stable job with which to pay for her own housing. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but most are not itching to move back in and get back to their old way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Middle School Cliques Jack was a boy who wanted to fit in with everybody in school. It took him awhile to understand that cliques begin in middle school. Realizing that he got labeled as "nerd" for reading books and having glasses, he decided to change his appearance. Jack stated, "I figured if I wore clothes that were more like everyone else's I could pass for cool, or at least not be made fun of" (Garrod, 2012, p. 180). Along with the wardrobe change, he also convinced his parents to let him use contact lens' and went to the dentist to fix his yellow patched teeth. Jack noticed how his peers picked on him during school. Even if he thought someone was his friends he knew if he did something they did not approve of, they would turn their back on him. • 76. Creative Writing: I Will Be The Best Sleepover Ever ! Winter's bright red pajamas had been splashed with white as pillows smashed into her. She could feel herself perspire, beads of salty sweat dripping down her face. She felt her energy dwindle, and she fell from the bed in defeat. Winter managed to groan, "Man down..." "YES! I AM THE QUEEN OF PILLOWLANDIA! AND I SHALL BE THE FIRST TO EAT DESSERT!" Arianna announced triumphantly. "Aw man, you won again. Why can't you go easy on us?" Hannah protested. Winter, Hannah, and Arianna were having a blast. They were having their 50th sleepover, a night that, as Arianna put it, "Should be the best sleepover ever!" But Winter wasn't very excited. The guilt of her grades weighed her down like a bag of boulders. Her last homework assignment earned her a fifty in math, and her ELA test score, she couldn't even imagine how low her grade was now. At least Arianna and Hannah were failing, too. But however far her grades dropped, she was grateful she wasn't like Rachel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had no friends and no life. She rarely talked to anyone, but everyone whispered about her in the halls, how nobody liked her, how she always sat alone. But Winter was a bit jealous of her. Even though only half her class knew her name, everyone knew her as the school's smartest student. She aced all of her classes, and won certificates in nearly every contest the school held. If only Winter's life were that easy. She could spend her whole life partying with her friends, and never having to worry about her grades again. Instead, she spent her 50th sleepover agonizing over her social studies test tomorrow that she hadn't studied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. The First Week Of School The first week of school was finally coming to an end and she had a wonderful idea. Each day after work she had come up with one excuse after another to put off his request to stop by her home to study. At least, that's what she had believed. With his help, homework had become less time consuming than a thought. It was completed within minutes shortly after they had arrived at the mall for their part–time job and an overall subject review during each break. Each exam they had taken that day was so simple that she was shocked that it seemed as if they had not prepared for any of the test at all. She had never finished any exam first (actually second) in her life. The squeak in delight after she blew through the first exam wasn't called for, but it did feel good. The person who had finished first didn't look happy about it and she was sure for all the wrong reasons. Well, Ericson did deserve a bit of reassuring that she wasn't using him as a tutor, but as her actual boyfriend. Her bright idea was so simple that she couldn't help but to smile whenever she looked in his direction after that first exam. She laid out her plan in her mind and went over it again and again. The mall wasn't due to open until 10:00 that Saturday and they weren't expected to report to work until 9:30. She decided it would be a special treat to pay call to Ericson's home and have morning meal with him. She was certain by her taking this initiative it would surly change his thoughts of ...
