Osamu Tresemme Research Paper
Dwight Howard once stated; "Today is a new day. Even if you were wrong yesterday, you can get it
right today." In life, one must take a glimpse of the world and do something that causes change.
Even though it may take time for creativity to reach you, you can still influence the world to make
an adjustment. Osamu Tezuka was a manga artist who lived from 1928–1989. He was born in
Toyonaka, Japan ("Osamu Tezuka," 2010). Osamu Tezuka was known as "The Father of Anime" and
the "God of Manga." Although he did not invent manga or Japanese comics, he was able to show his
style with the United States, causing manga and anime to become popular. He created over 150,000
pages of manga and over 500 episodes of anime. Osamu's drawing style contributed to making
anime and manga successful all over the world.
Osamu Tezuka was known as the "Father of Manga" and "The God of Anime." Although he did not
invent manga or Japanese comics, he developed a new style for them. He created the manga, "Astro
Boy" in 1951, which became an animated television series in the early 1960s. Later it evolved into a
western animated film, digital download, and a puppet show. In Japan, "Astro Boy" is known as the
"Mighty Atom." His drawings were vivid, as he and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1950–1989, he worked non–stop. He produced almost 500 anime episodes while still writing
and drawing volumes of 700 different manga titles. Osamu introduced cinematic action to manga
and promoted the art in post–war Japan during WWII. Artists like Hayao Miyazaki (the co–founder
of Studio Ghibli) and Akira Toriyama have cited Tezuka as an inspiration of some of their works.
Even after Osamu's death in 1989, some places in Japan still commemorate him. In the city of
Takarazuka, they opened a museum in his memory in 1994. Stamps were made in honor of Osuma
in 1997. In 2003, the Japanese toy company Kaiyodo began creating figurines of Osamu's creations

Short Story Essay
Short Story The river was roaring past the children and their teacher, as the group of kids tried in
vain to understand the teacher's inaudible mutterings. Not one of them could understand or
comprehend what the teacher was saying, and being the lively, uncontrollable brats that they were,
they didn't care anyway. When the teacher stopped talking, he motioned for the children to follow
him along the steep, mud–covered banks of the river. The children understood this and scuttled after
him, along the dangerous route that he had selected for them.

The three children got through the nettle patch and they sat down on the boulders bordering the
river, which was now starting to break its banks. They searched around for dock leaves to soften the
intense pain of the nettle stings. When they eventually found them they returned to the boulders and
tended to their burning limbs. When they could no longer feel the stings theyrealisedthat they were
bored, and looked for something to do. One of them, Harry, saw something sparkle amid the foam in
the river, and started out to get it. The other two, Chris and Matthew, noticed what Harry was after
and chased after him frantically. As Chris and Matthew drew closer to Harry, an immense, sudden
gush of water knocked the three kids flat on their faces. Chris, who was quite tubby, and the worst
swimmer, couldn't fight the current, and was swept downstream screaming in terror. Matthew and
Harry however, fought their way back to the banks of the river, petrified at the thought of what
might happen to their friend.
While all of this was happening, the torrential rain persisted. So much so, that the teacher decided to

Manga And Anime : Cartoons And Scrolls : Causes, And...
Manga and Anime Research Paper
Anime and manga have been around for many centuries and originated in Japan. Though anime and
manga were not once considered as just comics or cartoon shows, but rather as scrolls that shared a
message or even paintings that depicted salacious activities that were for adults. Nowadays anime
and manga are loved for the flashy and dramatic action scenes that take place within the story, and
even the characters of the story. People love anime and manga because they can find the characters
relatable and can share a good laugh or even cry, which can inspire others and make people happy.
The creator of the first anime took inspiration from Walt Disney because he was inspired by the
characters and themes that Disney had created.
The beginnings of manga were just like the beginnings of many other forms of art. The term manga
was created by the artist Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849. During the 6th and 7th centuries
Buddhist monks would develop what would be considered one of the first examples of manga.
These were picture scrolls that ran continually along walls and contained common symbols such as
cherry blossoms and red leaves to symbolize the passage of time. The most famous of all the scrolls
made during this time were scrolls that depicted animals doing human activities, much like Aesop's
Fables, and were called choujuu giga meaning animal scrolls. The scrolls also on top of depicting
animals as humans, the scrolls also satire Buddhist

Summary Of ' The Late Traveler ' And ' Chris Mccandless '
Home is a mindset. With definitions of "home" varying for so many people, there is no way to tie it
to a single, concrete definition. People from both extremes, those who stay and those who wander,
derive pleasure and contentment from their choices of "home". Tying a definition to the word
"home" is similar to attempting to define what makes a human being feel comfortable. The words,
while simple on the surface, mean very different things to every person making them impossible to
define completely. So what is a home? Home to me is a location, a sensation, and a state of mind
that is combination of four different aspects: shared happiness, the present moment, passion, and the
ability to adapt. The late traveler and wanderer Chris McCandless spent years traveling the country
living his dream as a modern day nomad. His last known writing is this, "happiness only real when
shared." Despite the time spent to himself, away from everyone close to him and the experiences he
made, his final thoughts were that happiness could not be possible without a loved one to share them
with. Shared happiness came to me in the form of family while growing up with a career military
father. Needless to say, my family experienced relocation more than most. In fifteen years we moved
thirteen times, a few of those moves being out of the country. Moving can take its toll on a young
man; uprooting friendships, new schools, unfamiliar places, and sometimes feeling as if there is no

The Newest Powered Commercial By Coca Cola Co.
Every professional athlete has his own story which made him as we see him now. Some Journeys
were more difficult than others. However, the common keywords between all of them are the hard
work and determination. Coca–Cola Co.'s PowerAde started its campaign "Just a kid" in the
beginning of last year. PowerAde has used inspirational stories of professional athlete, who used to
have a very hard start and they made their path into fame and success, to deliver a message to
everyone that no one has chosen his start but we all can decide our termination. The newest powered
commercial tells the story of Seattle Seahawk football player Jimmy Graham, who had a very tough
upbringing in a group house in North Carolina to a superstar in the NFL. This paper is going to
analyze that commercial and dive inside it to get deep meaning and catch the subtle message beyond
its scenes. One of the meanings of this commercial is demonstrating the notion of the American
dream. The mythical believe that anyone can start from the bottom and by continuing hard work, he
can achieve his goal and attain wealth and possible fame. This meaning has been shown at the
beginning of the commercial when it is opened on Jimmy Graham as a boy enters the Goldsboro
community orphanage in North Carolina where he has been beaten up and bullied by other older
boys. While that happens, the narrator was telling the story of a mouse who fell in a bucket of
cream. He tried to survive, but because the cream was thick he

Richard Wright's Short Stories Richard was born, raised, and grew up in a difficult period of life.
However, when Wright was sixteen, a short story of his was published in a Southern African
American newspaper. After leaving high school, Wright worded a few odd jobs, but still showed his
true love for writing. In 1927, Wright decided to pack up his belongings and head to Chicago. A
short ten years later, Richard moved to New York City, where he was told it would be easier getting
published. One year later, Wright's first book was published. Since then, Wright has wrote a number
of books, series and short stories until he died in 1960. With that being said, Richard Wright's short
stories, The Man Who Was Almost A Man and Big Boy Leaves Home were both written to show
what coming with age and responsibility truly mean.

Animation: An Explanation Of The Word Anime
Anime is an abbreviation for the word animation.
In English, main dictionary sources define anime as "a Japanese style of motion–picture animation"
or "a style of animation developed in Japan". Since anime or animçshon is used to describe all forms
of animation, Japanimation is used to distinguish Japanese work from that of the rest of the world.
In more recent years, anime has also frequently been referred to as manga in European countries, a
practice that may stem from the Japanese usage: In Japan, manga can refer to both animation and
comics (although the use of manga to refer to animation is mostly restricted to non–fans).
Anime often draws influence from manga, light novels, and other cultures. Anime can be broadcast
on television and is widely distributed via any form of media presentations, such as DVD, video and
the internet. Anime is sometimes referred to as Japanimation, but this term has fallen into disuse
When it comes to the countries that are outside of Japan, the word is known to most popularly refer
to the animation that originates in Japan.
However, if you travel to the west you will find that the word anime is not always considered as
referring to animation but it is thought to be a subset of animation.
Anime is available outside of Japan in localized form. Anime has also been a commercial success in
Asia, Europe and Latin America, where anime has become even more mainstream than in the United
States.
Anime features a wide variety of artistic styles.

A Long Way Gone
A Long Way Gone
Ishmael Beah was an innocent boy who enjoyed playing football, swimming in the streams, and
even started a rap and dance group with his friends and older brother. The group discovered their
love for rap music from old cassette tapes of O.P.P, Run D.M.C, and the Sugarhill Gang. Ishmael
and Junior, along with their other friends cherished these few hip hop and rap cassette tapes. Ishmael
constantly carried these couple tapes on him at all times. They choreographed dance routines and
memorized all of the lyrics. The boys also entered a talent show in a close town. Ishmael, Junior,

My friends and I even had battles against my older brother and his group of friends who literally
thought they were the real members of the boy band, N'Sync. This goes to show exactly how young
and innocent Ishmael and his friends really were.
Throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, rap music plays an extremely important role in saving
Ishmael's life. While the boys are traveling one day, a group of large, muscular men jump out from
the bushes, holding up their machetes and hunting rifles. These men are the voluntary guards of the
village and were ordered by their chief to bring Ishmael and his friends back to the village. They are
immediately tied up in the village and questioned. Even though the boys continue to insist they are
not rebel soldiers, the chief does not believe them. The chief would not believe the boys until they
discovered a rap cassette tape in Ishmael's pocket. The chief forces Ishmael to explain the rap music.
Ishmael was instructed to sing and dance to "O.P.P" by Naughty by Nature and "I Need Love" by LL
Cool J. The chief is still cautious of the boys until a young boy from the village admits to knowing
Ishmael and his friends. The boys are untied and the village surprisingly feeds them and even offers
them a place to stay. Knowing that the rebels will eventually come, the boys refuse the offer. At that

Comparing my Local Grocery Store to Walmart
For this assignment, I decided to go to a grocery store by my house named Meijer. Meijer is just like
any other grocery store, similar to Wal–Mart, yet higher quality products than Wal–Mart. The
clothing for both boys and girls sections are close together. I noticed that there are articles of
clothing that are similar for boys and girls, but they are called different names to make them more
masculine or feminine. For example, shirts for girls are called fashion tops and just shirts for boys.
Some patterns that I saw in the clothing/toys is that for almost each advertisement or label had a
picture of a boy or a girl to indicate which toy or clothing is meant for which gender. I did find some
things that I thought were unusual. One thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the media.
Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive than
females are. Both males and females play different sports than females. An instance would be
football, soccer, and wrestling, compared to cheerleading, gymnastics, and volleyball for the girls.
Football, soccer, and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading, gymnastics or
volleyball are. Peers is also another part for socialization because the way boys or girls act around
each other. Children follow by example, so if they see their friends doing something, they will most
likely follow. As children get older, peers plays a bigger part in influencing children to act a certain
way according to society and other peers. Lastly, the media is additionally has a huge impression on
how kids should act and look. The commercials for children on T.V. convince children what they
should be playing with, who they should be playing with, how they should look, and how they
should act. It is very rare to see girls playing Legos or hot wheels in commercials. The same is for
boys, commercials do not promote boys playing with and accessorizing with Barbie dolls. Some
clothes that are deemed to be gender neutral are certain types of shirts and shoes. An example of a

Similarities Between Manga And Anime
Manga and Anime...
An industry worth billions of dillars, Manga (Japanese Comics) and Anime (Japanese Animation) is
an essential part of contemprorary life and popular culture in Japan. And is today an influence on
films and film–makers across the globe.
Manga is an amalgamation of the ukiyo–e genre of woodblock prints and paintings, that held sway
in Japan from the 17th to the 19th century, as well as the Western style of comics and animation,
especially that of (Walt) Disney, which was due to the significant presence that America had
established in Japan post the Second World War.
Interestingly Disney's inluence lies not just in the storytelling but in the very essence of what Manga
is, since the stylization that Japanese comics is famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The's First Modern Grocery Store
Moreover, on that bright June day the hurry and spring in the pretty redhead's step had a teeny bit to
do with what her best friend, Sylvia, had told her earlier that same morning: someone new had come
to town; a handsome, mysterious young man. All the harbor girls whispered in delight; gossiping,
speculating and wondering who would land the first date with this new guy. Rumors had it that he
had started work at the newly opened First National, the harbor's first modern grocery store. Oh
sure, there were fish markets and butcher shops and the likes, but mostly, folks had milk, cheese and
butter delivered, and the majority of women made their own bread and put up their own vegetables
and preserves. However, now with this new grocery store, their basics could all be purchased in one
locale. The young man that the girls were all buzzing about had only been in Cutler Harbor for two
days or so, no one had met him yet. It was Priscilla, who told Natalie; he lived in Damariscotta,
some twenty miles away (he did). Then Natalie told Sylvia that she heard he had a car (he did not).
In conclusion, Sylvia told Lelia he looked like a dreamboat, just like Clark Gable (he did). The

The Night of Fire
The Night (Fire engine, boys, rain)
April 24th, 2012; the sound of the news on the television hums in the background drowned out by
people talking and laughing. Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life; everything is in calm and
peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings through the brick walls. All of the men in the
station startle to attention and rush around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the smooth
concrete floors and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm. The men pile
into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes silent and the station is
abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the background. The men hardly fit in the
small quarters of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens
atop the thick metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds
start to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof. The cold
weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow down and become faded,
the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and a group of boys are playing baseball. The
ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a
leather glove with an explosion of water up into a young boy's smiling face. There is a newspaper on
the ground that is soaked but the date says April 24th, 1986.

English 1010
24 September 2015 Pave the Prairie: Cowboys in Manhattan As we charge headlong into the
twenty–first century, things have changed. Sweatshops are illegal, cars are a near necessity, and
more women now graduate college than men. The post–industrial era economy is flourishing in the
United States, but not everyone is flourishing in it. All across America coalmines are empty, railroad
spikes and sledgehammers are rusting, and straw cowboy hats slowly rot. Jobs once held by 'manly'
men are disappearing and, "for the first time in American history, the balance of the workforce
tipped towards women, who now hold a majority of the nation's jobs," (Rosin 475). When faced

These rules foster a certain type of man. One who takes charge and leads, one whose primary
concern is, "Being a Man Among Men," (Kimmel 464). However, it also creates a person who
suppresses his feelings in fear of being labeled as effeminate. The stigma dictates that attributes
typically associated with women are unmasculine, so as boys turn to men, "Along the way they
suppress all the feelings they associate with the maternal––compassion, nurturance, vulnerability,
dependency," (Kimmel 469). This pattern of suppression has not changed much in recent years.
Society still enforces the idea that men should be strong and stoic, when these traits are no longer
what are needed to be successful in the workforce.
Men are failing in school. While it may not be all men, as time progresses it has become apparent
that women dominate our school system when given equal opportunities to participate. Men are not
performing worse in school now compared to forty years ago, the problem is that they are not
performing better. If men found themselves with, "'their eyes glazed over,'" (Rosin 473) they once
could drop out, choose not to pursue a higher education, and enter the workforce through unionized
labor jobs that suited them much better. Today, these jobs are disintegrating, while, "Of the 15 job
categories projected to grow the most in the next decade in the U.S., all but two are occupied
primarily by women," (Rosin 475). Many men have not been able to adapt to this new world

Is Diotima A Man Not A Woman?
Most people believe the argument that Diotima is a woman is true solely because she is not a man.
However, I find that there are other arguments that are capable of proving that Diotima is indeed a
man, not a woman. To be able to explain my theory in an understandable manner, I must clearly
illustrate gender roles in Ancient Greece. When it comes to women's roles in Ancient Greece, it is
safe to conclude that they were simply a symbol of inferiority when compared to men. I'll list a few
things women were not legally able to do: inherit property, appear in court, or give evidence under
oath. As a matter of fact, women were not even able to commit the majority of the crimes in Ancient
Greece because they were barely ever found in public. And if there happened to be an issue within
the family, it was handled either by the father or the husband because they were the legal guardians
of women. Boys went to school earlier than girls, because this society felt that men are the
intellectuals. Domestically, women were to nurture their children. Now, let's compare this to the role
of men in Ancient Greece. Men came home from work and lay on their couches as they were fed
and entertained. They were given utmost respect in the house and in their society for they were
deemed to be most important. This is all part of misogyny that is well grounded in Ancient Greece.
With this background, I argue that Diotima is not a woman because the likeliness of the men to
listen to her in this society

been swinging the bats well as of late as the Rangers saw last night and they'll certainly be confident

Why I Didn 't Be Public Enemy

in World War One and lost his legs and an arm. Wilfred Owen himself took part in the war,
consequently witnessing first hand many young men whose lives were similarly destroyed. In the
poem, 'Out, Out', Robert Frost shows the fragility of life in two ways. Firstly alluding to
Shakespeare's metaphor in 'Macbeth's soliloquy' – 'Out, out, brief candle', which informs the reader
that life is very short and fragile. Moreover, Frost looks at the themes of sudden death and child
labour to help to make this a very sad and shocking poem. The poem reflects the tragedy of the
accidental death of a child doing a man's job. Frost's description of setting, imagery, and tone create
a moving poem with a horrifying ending that leaves the reader feeling despaired at the bleakness of
the situation and quite shocked.
Even in the structure of the poem, Wilfred Owen shows us a compassionate portrait of loss by
switching between and comparing the soldier's experiences 'before' and 'after' war time, and the
related memories and emotions, for instance:
"And girls glanced lovelier as the air grew dim–
In old times, before he threw away his knees".
This example shows the constant comparison and reminder of the soldier's loss

The Giants Research Paper
The Giants have been one of the best teams in baseball for a few years now and it sure didn't look
any different this year, until the second half of the season. The Giants have made it to the postseason
three times since 2010 and won the World Series each time. The Giants are somewhat a hit and miss
club that is use to inconsistency. Unlike their counterpart, the Dodgers have made it to postseason
since the 2013 season including this year, unfortunately, they haven't been able to get passed the
NLCS in any of those years. The Giants are in that same position this year, on the brink of victory or
failure. As of today, they are in the second Wild Card spot, but expect there to be quite a bit of shake
ups until the postseason starts. The Giants had the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the Giants have been able to succeed at the highest level in the postseason for the times that
they have gone to the postseason in the most recent year, if they can make it into the playoffs, count
on them to be a factor. The biggest problem that they are going to have to face is their last regular
season series against the Dodgers. The Dodgers have risen to the occasion since the end of the first
half of the season and have played almost as well as the Cubs. The Wild Card race will most likely
come down to the final series of the regular season and that series with the Dodgers will determine
their fate. The Dodgers will be starting two of their best pitchers in Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill
and will finish off the season with Brandon McCarthy. Fortunately, the Giants will start their best
pitchers as well. In recent years these games have been decided on the mound and that won't be any
different form this series. Whosever starting pitching can show up, that team will most likely win.
Having said that, the Dodgers in my opinion are playing too good and will most likely roll over the
ailing Giants. Simply put, the Dodgers are a better team and have been since

Sammy as a Representation of a Misunderstood Generation in...
John Updike presents us in his story A&P, through Sammy's actions, the protest of young and
misunderstood generation which he sees in his story, as rebellious and visionless by older generation
for which all that does not obey to society's standards is unusual, unaccepted, and accentuated by the
fineness of details and nuances, a deep insight intuition of choosing revealing moments of 1960's, in
which sexuality was taboo. With this Updike is announcing a big change in the culture, and of the
times that he noticed it as such, expressing better through his writing, and presenting Sammy – his
protagonist– which wants to be noticed along with signs of anxiety and insecurities, but follows his
instincts which are recorded in a universe where his actions are completely different from what other
aspects, bringing into focus the originality of character. In "A & P" we can see through John
Updike's description each feeling Sammy, a 19 year old, has which is working in a market store. He
lives in a small town, having a quiet life and a future that was not offering many opportunities, but
along with the arrival in store of the young barefoot girls which were wearing only bathing swims,
he starts having all the mix feelings. The sexuality that promoted by the young girls outfit was not
welcome in the setting of A&P, and against the policy store, even though the girls were focused only
of what they come to buy, without any purpose of attracting other people's attention. The girls'

would not to be able to tell that he is any different than a real boy. Furthermore, in regards to him

cares about his creator/father. Astro Boy as a whole is created for the primary purpose of replacing
Tobio, who is the dead son of Dr. Tenma. As a result, he does anything he can into reassuring
Dr.Tenma that he is Tobio, whether if it means eating real food, when he technically can not taste or

replacement, yet he does get emotionally effected by this when he fails or when Dr. Tenma is not
happy with him. In the beginning, all Tobio wanted from his father was his love and affection. To
simply be noticed or spent time with, is all Tobio desired. Similarly all Astro Boy wanted was to
please his father or to be accepted by him, yet too was let down. As a result Tobio was sadden by
this as it is normal for a human to feel this in response to rejection, especially when a boy receives
this from his father. However, Astro Boy, a robot, follows in his footsteps as it becomes visible that
he is emotionally hurt by this rejection as well. For instances, there is a scene on the ship in episode
1 where Astro Boy makes a mess of things at dinner and Dr, Tenma retaliates on him in anger
(18.10). Two things can be taken away from this scene, first the fact that in immediate response of
witnessing the anger, Astro Boy says "I'm very sorry dad."

Richard Rodriguez "Real Work" Essay Analysis
D'Auvray Xan D'Auvray
Kevin Knight
English 111
September 12th, 2012
"Real Work" by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self–confidence. He seeks
to build his self–esteem by participating in real manual labor over a summer job. When Rodriguez is
offered a job working on a construction site he doesn't hesitate to say yes. His father had always told
him he could never understand the hardships of "Real work', and Rodriguez felt that completing this
summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him to be a "Real
man". Richard Rodriguez was raised in America, unlike his family. He never really knew anything
different. This made it very easy for his father to tell him that "he didn't really know ... Show more

The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At first I thought the
authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour about the advantages of living a
normal life in American society. I felt that he had made his son feel like he could never do what he
had down. If a parental figure makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be
positive or negative. In Rodriguez's case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a positive
learning experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez's father
wasn't putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their worlds
where. He was stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with much
greater potential to be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than
most people realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not have
many options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt that his
father had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. Rodriguez felt like he
needed to prove that he could perform the same task that his fathers use to do to provide for their
families. Working with you're your hands, completing messy, strenuous, sometimes painful jobs was
almost a part of Hispanic culture. A part of

Anime Of Anime And Anime
Period 1/4 History of Anime
Manga and anime are a huge part in American and the Japanese culture. Anime and Manga were
once used for war, propaganda, and recruitment, but is now used for entertainment and leisure.
Anime was not just created by one man but by many working together. Anime has had a long line of
history causing it to become more and more loved throughout the years. It not only caused Japan a
great deal of money and working jobs but it also influenced more people to see the brighter things in
life. Manga was not only just important in anime's history but it was the cause of it. The time line of
huge success in anime started in 1914 with the first manga being created.
World War II was a big part in anime history with the nation being mobilized in which the anime
and manga industry evolved quite a lot. The war caused that government to force people to conform
to the government or pay a high price. Those that didn't cooperate were banned from writing, given
preventive detention, and sometimes even social ostracism. People who spent most of their lives
criticizing and judging the government did an about–face and offered support to militarists. Those
who followed the government 's command Were rewarded with support from their community and
rehabilitation programs. During that time the government used the few remaining artists, who were
not in the military or banned from working; to influence their country through

An amused smirk plastered itself on her face.
"Why isn't your face constricted in fear? Why are you smirking at me?! Are you mocking me?!! You

"Tsk tsk; don't yell. It's troublesome and besides why would I be scared of you? You are merely a

"Foolish girl; I would be scared of Teddy and I, we will–" but, she cut him off before he could

I wonder how far I can push him, until he becomes seriously mad.
"Bite me? Suck my blood dry? Or use your fangs to open a can of beans? Kanato as much as you

"Don't belittle Teddy; you have no right! And scaring you is an easy matter to accomplish, but firstly
how about I partake blood from you?" He asked as though it was a question, when it clearly wasn't.
He came closer to the girl, but before he could step closer to her neck, a silver dagger was placed
right above his heart.
"Oh is this confession of love? Didn't you know, if you kill a vampire it means that you love them. I

Correlation Between Males And Females On Average
The goal of this paper is to determine who is more motivated between males and females on average
in reading. In one study females were considered more motivated and exhibited higher mastery in
reading. There were several factors that contributed to this conclusion, some being biological and
distinctly different from gender to gender. Boys were usually assessed as less developed mentally
and developing in different sequences as their female counterparts. The corpus callosum was 20%
bigger in females than males. These connect the two hemispheres of the brain. Couple this with
these facts together explains why females tend to be better communicators than males. Boys

There have been mixed results on how it affects children's motivation and achievement. The results
from the study suggest that praising children can reduce disruptive behavior in class and stimulate
learning. It was difficult to narrow the result of this achievement to the praise itself or to teacher's
attention and special privileges. At the time of this publication no study has isolated the effects of
praise by itself with this type and setting. Praise has been noted to be varied and exhibit different
results at times praise has had an adverse effect on learning while in other settings it has been a great
catalyst. One study suggests that praise directed at an activity rather than a person can be a factor for
the different outcomes observed. That praising on activity gives specific insight to overcoming
problems and is beneficial for future situation that will require problem solving skills. The reason
for this maybe that children don't always experience success and personal praise will have the
opposite affect at this point. They will begin to equate non–success with being incompetent, bad and
unworthy. Studies suggest that females maybe more at risk for the adverse effects of personal praise
following setback or failures. Research has found that females tend to accept evaluative feedback
more so than males. They perceive this feedback as an accurate reflection of their abilities, while
males rely more on their internal belief of their abilities. In a

Summary Of ' The Strange Beach '
CHAPTER FOUR
As Dark As His Tar Black Soul
The strange beach was stifled as if the ghosts of notorious pirates maybe even Blackbeard himself
had come back to silence the coastline. My imagination was chuck full of childhood tales–I could
picture infamous pirates wielding silver cutlass swords and gallant king's men battling at sea, but the
sand was deserted and even the wind now held its breath. "Bro, we've fallen down the rabbit hole or
something. I know were not in Pixie Dust anymore . . . but where the heck are we Wonderland?"
Mason said in full meltdown mode. "And . . ." he glanced around like he had a twitch, "I saw a
flicker of movement in the water. Something's out there I can feel it, you hear me? I'll be fine
though–you cut out their tongues and stab them in the eyes, if they close!" I did my best to calm him
down. "Everything's okay. Mason there's no one here." I pointed to the glass like lilac–colored
water. Not even a seagull soared over the sea. There were just bursts of dappled light peppering the
air, reflections rippling across the deep. "Besides," I inhaled the brackish air trying to soothe my
nerves, "what am I going to stab them with, my finger?" Relax! Only serene thought are allow, I told
myself listening to the soothing sound of lapping waves gently caressed the coast. I repeated it like a
mantra twice then I saw something across the purple swells–the silhouette of a small unfamiliar tin–

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The Man, The Boy, and the remains of a dead world are the only constants the reader will know as
they make their journey down "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. The novel tells a story of the
nameless protagonists as they traverse through a post–apocalyptic land in an attempt to reach the
warm coast before winter. McCarthy's story also covers many dark and heavy topics – primarily
death. He has said himself that death especially is a major issue in the world, and that writers who
do not address it are not serious. As a man of his word, McCarthy has written "The Road" with
imagery and metaphor alluding to how death stays as a heavy presence even after it has done its
work. The book's dystopia is a result of all of the worst faults of humanity, ... Show more content on

McCarthy also tends to avoid any assignment of speech; one does not know who is speaking
because McCarthy has explicitly written that The Boy or The Man has said it, if the reader cannot
understand who is saying what then the writer has not done their job. He sees no need for complex
and elaborate constructions of literature when words on their own can be simple yet profound in
delivery in messages. I specifically chose to read this book because McCarthy is the opposite of
myself. I thoroughly respect this ability in him. While I might find other authors like Poe who do the
(stark) opposite to be more entertaining, I cannot deny that there is something so remarkable about
an author who can manage something so beautiful and direct – naked writing. It demonstrates the
depth of thought and careful consideration that went into each word.
McCarthy's approach to storytelling, simple yet definitive, conveys far more than what is printed on
paper. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the use of metaphor within descriptions of setting does the
same. Many times throughout the story are trees mentioned. At first, the frequency may seem
peculiar – it is always yellowing dead trees that are mentioned, and this initially serves to reveal to
the reader that an unknown apocalypse has basically killed the earth and most of its flora. However,
the constant presence of the dead trees is also a reminder that even though death has come and gone
the skeletons it leaves behind will

The Power Of The Grotesque
The Power of the Grotesque in Literature It is often said that beauty is within the eye of its beholder.
A statement this broad, begs the question, "what is the true definition of beauty?" Writers such as
Sherwood Anderson and Thomas Mann depict the beauty of life through the usage of the grotesque.
The grotesque is used to reveal the absolute truth and reality of humanity. However, no matter how
terrifying these truths may be, it is evident that the messages depicted and the passion evoked
through them are truly beautiful. Winesburg, Ohio is a collection of short stories by Sherwood
Anderson. The episodic stories have a wide range of character types and messages and yet, they all
share the common theme of the grotesque. Similarly, Death in Venice the novella by Thomas Mann
follows a burdened artist, Gustave Aschenbach who struggles with repressed desires that are slowly
liberated throughout the story. Both Anderson and Mann use the grotesque to explain the true nature
of society, their characters, and to evoke emotion from their readers especially through the theme of
obsession.
In order to truly understand the grotesque and its usage, readers must first know its complex history,
meaning, and usage. Due to its wide range of usage, the definition of grotesque changed numerous
times throughout history. In literary uses, it can be defined as an "expression of the estranged or
alienated world...an attempt to control and exorcise the demonic elements in the world" (Thomson).

Comparison Of Astro Boy And Rosy The Robot
Comparison of Astro Boy & Rosy the Robot
A lot of kids and teenagers enjoy watching animation TV. Some popular series include 'Astro Boy'
and 'The Jetsons'. The characters of Astro Boy in 'Astro Boy' and Rosy the Robot in 'The Jetsons'
have a lot in common, such as that they are both robots, as well as many differences. The evidence
collected to support these facts include the characters appearance, personalities and their role in
society.
One of Astro Boy's and Rosy's biggest differences is their appearance; however, they also have
similarities. Differences include that Astro Boy has the appearance of a human boy, although we are
constantly reminded that underneath he is still a robot. Whereas Rosy looks entirely like a
mechanical robot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to act as a replacement for the scientist's son. At the end of the episode, he signs a contract with a

his robotic function, which is to serve and follow orders. The obvious similarity between both
characters is that they are made to serve humans. They do the unsafe or undesired jobs of humans,
as well as follow their orders. The evidence of the roles of the robots clearly shows their robotic

Analysis Of Ode To Kirihito
In Ode to Kirihito (1970–71), Osamu Tezuka makes it clear that he is not engaging in children 's
literature. The manga opens tensely in a hospital with a huge staff of doctors mulling over a
perplexing medical case and a barrage of obtuse medical terminology. Visually, aside from the dour
doctors, there is a heavily rendered panel of tightly–packed tombstones in the overgrown cemetery
of the afflicted village of Doggodale. This was an early salvo from Tezuka, that after two decades of
massive commercial success with largely all–ages manga, that he was not content merely being the
Walt Disney of Japan. Tezuka wanted to unlock the full power of a new art form. Therefore, in this
essay I will argue that with Ode to Kirihito, Tezuka ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening pages show a panorama of a beautiful Chinese port city (most likely an idealized
Shanghai) with its tightly–packed houses and sailboats dotting the harbor. Then Tezuka brings us
into to bustling, but still benign city streets, and a richly–appointed garden walling off the palace of
Master Mahn. Only after does Tezuka begin to peel back the benign exterior to show the twisted
underbelly. As the caged Osanai is brought inside by two drivers, Tezuka shows a half–page Roman
orgy scene encircling a pair of nude performers. The rich, corrupt men, bored by their excesses,
demand greater and more perverse pleasures and the ringleader has an infant brought out and placed
in the company of a massive snake. Everything we know from Western films and even other manga
suggests that the expected horror will not unfold, and that some heroic figure (perhaps the caged
Osanai himself) will intervene and save the baby, but that does not happen. Mahn states "Don 't
worry, we bought the baby fair and square in Pakistan. Watch closely" (p. 195). In the next page, we
see that the snake has eaten the baby with a swollen belly, a woman is seen sobbing and the men are
still bored because it is apparently too easy: "Boring! All you need is money to buy a snake and a
baby" (p. 196). The

the start of the 2016 season, they were looking like a favorite to win the World Series. Up until the

If the Giants can win most of their series, they will still be able to come out of their hiccup they are
in right now and get back on top. The biggest problem facing the Giants are the two series against
the Dodgers; one in LA and the other in San Francisco. One thing that might help the Giants come
out of there is the trade acquisitions they got at the trade deadline. So far, the trades have been
somewhat of a bust and somewhat of a victory. The Giants traded INF Matt Duffy, RHP Michael
Santos, and INF Lucius Fox for LHP Matt Moore. Matt Moore is 1 – 3 for the Giants in 5 starts with
a 3.41 ERA. The Giants expected to get someone that could go at least over .500, but the Giants still
seem to believe in Moore because he might be a great asset going into the postseason. If Matt Moore
and Jeff Samardzija can improve towards the end of the season, the Giants can really turn into that
team that they were in the first half of the season. The other trade that happened was the acquisition
of Eduardo Nunez for LHP prospect Adalberto Mejia. Nunez has been extremely good in San
Francisco in his short time there and was a great acquisition for the Giants. The two trades seem to
have had good intentions and somewhat worked and will probably become very beneficial, but as of

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature
Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points
out that "with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure
to find new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In
other words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of
belonging, as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative
artistic and literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars
feel the urge to identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so–called

The Male And Female Gender Through Life Experiences
Matthew Drozd
How Do We Know What Gender We Are? Virginia Woolf's novel, Orlando, and Thomas Page
McBee's memoir, Man Alive, aim to define the male and female gender through life experiences.
Virginia Woolf uses the eponymous protagonist, Orlando, to define the freedom that men have
within society while women face many societal restrictions. Within Man Alive, Thomas, a
transgendered man, experiences similar freedoms and restrictions that Orlando experiences through
his experiences within society. Man Alive is the journey of Thomas Page McBee's transition from
woman to man; it focuses not on his physical change but on his mental change. Orlando was placed
in a predicament that allowed him to experience life both as man and woman. The first thirty years
of Orlando's life was spent as a man then he was permanently transformed into a woman. Almost
parallel to Orlando's transition experience, Thomas was also in a predicament that allowed him to
experience life as a man and woman. Thomas, born Page, goes through a transition to become male.
Orlando and Thomas both aimed at trying to figure out who they were in society; Thomas was
trying to find what kind of man he wanted to become and Orlando was trying to find what kind of
woman she was becoming. For example, if female Orlando was promiscuous, she would be heavily
criticized by her community while male Orlando received no censure. Man Alive focused, not on the
criticism that Thomas received but, on the characteristics of men via

The main structure of a shonen is when the main character is faced with a set of challenges and
always seems to be able to overcome them through different means, usually through training or
repetitively trying to overcome them, and untimely becomes stronger because of it. The reason that
mainstream anime has a trend of being shonen goes back to the primary viewers of mainstream
anime being children. The repetitive and simple plot of shonen anime keeps the children viewers
engaged while not having to follow a complicated plot that goes over their head. Mainstream anime

The Houston Astros have been making deals to improve their team, and avoid another collapse like
the one they had last season. Their bullpen could not finish the year strong after being one of the

  • 5. Osamu Tresemme Research Paper Dwight Howard once stated; "Today is a new day. Even if you were wrong yesterday, you can get it right today." In life, one must take a glimpse of the world and do something that causes change. Even though it may take time for creativity to reach you, you can still influence the world to make an adjustment. Osamu Tezuka was a manga artist who lived from 1928–1989. He was born in Toyonaka, Japan ("Osamu Tezuka," 2010). Osamu Tezuka was known as "The Father of Anime" and the "God of Manga." Although he did not invent manga or Japanese comics, he was able to show his style with the United States, causing manga and anime to become popular. He created over 150,000 pages of manga and over 500 episodes of anime. Osamu's drawing style contributed to making anime and manga successful all over the world. Osamu Tezuka was known as the "Father of Manga" and "The God of Anime." Although he did not invent manga or Japanese comics, he developed a new style for them. He created the manga, "Astro Boy" in 1951, which became an animated television series in the early 1960s. Later it evolved into a western animated film, digital download, and a puppet show. In Japan, "Astro Boy" is known as the "Mighty Atom." His drawings were vivid, as he and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1950–1989, he worked non–stop. He produced almost 500 anime episodes while still writing and drawing volumes of 700 different manga titles. Osamu introduced cinematic action to manga and promoted the art in post–war Japan during WWII. Artists like Hayao Miyazaki (the co–founder of Studio Ghibli) and Akira Toriyama have cited Tezuka as an inspiration of some of their works. Even after Osamu's death in 1989, some places in Japan still commemorate him. In the city of Takarazuka, they opened a museum in his memory in 1994. Stamps were made in honor of Osuma in 1997. • 9. Short Story Essay Short Story The river was roaring past the children and their teacher, as the group of kids tried in vain to understand the teacher's inaudible mutterings. Not one of them could understand or comprehend what the teacher was saying, and being the lively, uncontrollable brats that they were, they didn't care anyway. When the teacher stopped talking, he motioned for the children to follow him along the steep, mud–covered banks of the river. The children understood this and scuttled after him, along the dangerous route that he had selected for them. As the teacher and the mob of children following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three children got through the nettle patch and they sat down on the boulders bordering the river, which was now starting to break its banks. They searched around for dock leaves to soften the intense pain of the nettle stings. When they eventually found them they returned to the boulders and tended to their burning limbs. When they could no longer feel the stings theyrealisedthat they were bored, and looked for something to do. One of them, Harry, saw something sparkle amid the foam in the river, and started out to get it. The other two, Chris and Matthew, noticed what Harry was after and chased after him frantically. As Chris and Matthew drew closer to Harry, an immense, sudden gush of water knocked the three kids flat on their faces. Chris, who was quite tubby, and the worst swimmer, couldn't fight the current, and was swept downstream screaming in terror. Matthew and Harry however, fought their way back to the banks of the river, petrified at the thought of what might happen to their friend. While all of this was happening, the torrential rain persisted. So much so, that the teacher decided to take the class – as quickly as possible – to some form of shelter. They ran towards a small, deserted house about a hundred yards from the path, and waited there panting for the rain to stop. Still, no– onerealisedthat three of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Manga And Anime : Cartoons And Scrolls : Causes, And... Manga and Anime Research Paper Anime and manga have been around for many centuries and originated in Japan. Though anime and manga were not once considered as just comics or cartoon shows, but rather as scrolls that shared a message or even paintings that depicted salacious activities that were for adults. Nowadays anime and manga are loved for the flashy and dramatic action scenes that take place within the story, and even the characters of the story. People love anime and manga because they can find the characters relatable and can share a good laugh or even cry, which can inspire others and make people happy. The creator of the first anime took inspiration from Walt Disney because he was inspired by the characters and themes that Disney had created. The beginnings of manga were just like the beginnings of many other forms of art. The term manga was created by the artist Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849. During the 6th and 7th centuries Buddhist monks would develop what would be considered one of the first examples of manga. These were picture scrolls that ran continually along walls and contained common symbols such as cherry blossoms and red leaves to symbolize the passage of time. The most famous of all the scrolls made during this time were scrolls that depicted animals doing human activities, much like Aesop's Fables, and were called choujuu giga meaning animal scrolls. The scrolls also on top of depicting animals as humans, the scrolls also satire Buddhist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Summary Of ' The Late Traveler ' And ' Chris Mccandless ' Home is a mindset. With definitions of "home" varying for so many people, there is no way to tie it to a single, concrete definition. People from both extremes, those who stay and those who wander, derive pleasure and contentment from their choices of "home". Tying a definition to the word "home" is similar to attempting to define what makes a human being feel comfortable. The words, while simple on the surface, mean very different things to every person making them impossible to define completely. So what is a home? Home to me is a location, a sensation, and a state of mind that is combination of four different aspects: shared happiness, the present moment, passion, and the ability to adapt. The late traveler and wanderer Chris McCandless spent years traveling the country living his dream as a modern day nomad. His last known writing is this, "happiness only real when shared." Despite the time spent to himself, away from everyone close to him and the experiences he made, his final thoughts were that happiness could not be possible without a loved one to share them with. Shared happiness came to me in the form of family while growing up with a career military father. Needless to say, my family experienced relocation more than most. In fifteen years we moved thirteen times, a few of those moves being out of the country. Moving can take its toll on a young man; uprooting friendships, new schools, unfamiliar places, and sometimes feeling as if there is no set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Newest Powered Commercial By Coca Cola Co. Every professional athlete has his own story which made him as we see him now. Some Journeys were more difficult than others. However, the common keywords between all of them are the hard work and determination. Coca–Cola Co.'s PowerAde started its campaign "Just a kid" in the beginning of last year. PowerAde has used inspirational stories of professional athlete, who used to have a very hard start and they made their path into fame and success, to deliver a message to everyone that no one has chosen his start but we all can decide our termination. The newest powered commercial tells the story of Seattle Seahawk football player Jimmy Graham, who had a very tough upbringing in a group house in North Carolina to a superstar in the NFL. This paper is going to analyze that commercial and dive inside it to get deep meaning and catch the subtle message beyond its scenes. One of the meanings of this commercial is demonstrating the notion of the American dream. The mythical believe that anyone can start from the bottom and by continuing hard work, he can achieve his goal and attain wealth and possible fame. This meaning has been shown at the beginning of the commercial when it is opened on Jimmy Graham as a boy enters the Goldsboro community orphanage in North Carolina where he has been beaten up and bullied by other older boys. While that happens, the narrator was telling the story of a mouse who fell in a bucket of cream. He tried to survive, but because the cream was thick he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Richard Wright 's Short Stories Chase Dickens Professor Shelia Bonner English 11203–71 6 February 2016 Richard Wright's Short Stories Richard was born, raised, and grew up in a difficult period of life. However, when Wright was sixteen, a short story of his was published in a Southern African American newspaper. After leaving high school, Wright worded a few odd jobs, but still showed his true love for writing. In 1927, Wright decided to pack up his belongings and head to Chicago. A short ten years later, Richard moved to New York City, where he was told it would be easier getting published. One year later, Wright's first book was published. Since then, Wright has wrote a number of books, series and short stories until he died in 1960. With that being said, Richard Wright's short stories, The Man Who Was Almost A Man and Big Boy Leaves Home were both written to show what coming with age and responsibility truly mean. The Man Who Was Almost A Man After a hard day at work, seventeen year old Dave heads across the fields for home, still thinking about some of the problems he had been facing with some other field help that day. He wants to prove to the others that he is not a child, anymore. "Mebbe Ma will lemme buy one when she gits mah pay from ol man Hawkins. Ahma beg her t gimme some money. Ahm ol ernough to hava gun. • 29. Animation: An Explanation Of The Word Anime Anime is an abbreviation for the word animation. In English, main dictionary sources define anime as "a Japanese style of motion–picture animation" or "a style of animation developed in Japan". Since anime or animçshon is used to describe all forms of animation, Japanimation is used to distinguish Japanese work from that of the rest of the world. In more recent years, anime has also frequently been referred to as manga in European countries, a practice that may stem from the Japanese usage: In Japan, manga can refer to both animation and comics (although the use of manga to refer to animation is mostly restricted to non–fans). Anime often draws influence from manga, light novels, and other cultures. Anime can be broadcast on television and is widely distributed via any form of media presentations, such as DVD, video and the internet. Anime is sometimes referred to as Japanimation, but this term has fallen into disuse When it comes to the countries that are outside of Japan, the word is known to most popularly refer to the animation that originates in Japan. However, if you travel to the west you will find that the word anime is not always considered as referring to animation but it is thought to be a subset of animation. Anime is available outside of Japan in localized form. Anime has also been a commercial success in Asia, Europe and Latin America, where anime has become even more mainstream than in the United States. Anime features a wide variety of artistic styles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Long Way Gone A Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah was an innocent boy who enjoyed playing football, swimming in the streams, and even started a rap and dance group with his friends and older brother. The group discovered their love for rap music from old cassette tapes of O.P.P, Run D.M.C, and the Sugarhill Gang. Ishmael and Junior, along with their other friends cherished these few hip hop and rap cassette tapes. Ishmael constantly carried these couple tapes on him at all times. They choreographed dance routines and memorized all of the lyrics. The boys also entered a talent show in a close town. Ishmael, Junior, Talloi, and Mohamed have been singing and dancing to rap music since they first formed the group when Ishmael was only eight years old. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My friends and I even had battles against my older brother and his group of friends who literally thought they were the real members of the boy band, N'Sync. This goes to show exactly how young and innocent Ishmael and his friends really were. Throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, rap music plays an extremely important role in saving Ishmael's life. While the boys are traveling one day, a group of large, muscular men jump out from the bushes, holding up their machetes and hunting rifles. These men are the voluntary guards of the village and were ordered by their chief to bring Ishmael and his friends back to the village. They are immediately tied up in the village and questioned. Even though the boys continue to insist they are not rebel soldiers, the chief does not believe them. The chief would not believe the boys until they discovered a rap cassette tape in Ishmael's pocket. The chief forces Ishmael to explain the rap music. Ishmael was instructed to sing and dance to "O.P.P" by Naughty by Nature and "I Need Love" by LL Cool J. The chief is still cautious of the boys until a young boy from the village admits to knowing Ishmael and his friends. The boys are untied and the village surprisingly feeds them and even offers them a place to stay. Knowing that the rebels will eventually come, the boys refuse the offer. Meijer is just like any other grocery store, similar to Wal–Mart, yet higher quality products than Wal–Mart. The clothing for both boys and girls sections are close together. I noticed that there are articles of clothing that are similar for boys and girls, but they are called different names to make them more masculine or feminine. For example, shirts for girls are called fashion tops and just shirts for boys. Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the media. Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive than females are. Both males and females play different sports than females. Football, soccer, and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading, gymnastics or volleyball are. Peers is also another part for socialization because the way boys or girls act around each other. Children follow by example, so if they see their friends doing something, they will most likely follow. As children get older, peers plays a bigger part in influencing children to act a certain way according to society and other peers. Lastly, the media is additionally has a huge impression on how kids should act and look. The commercials for children on T.V. convince children what they should be playing with, who they should be playing with, how they should look, and how they should act. An industry worth billions of dillars, Manga (Japanese Comics) and Anime (Japanese Animation) is an essential part of contemprorary life and popular culture in Japan. And is today an influence on films and film–makers across the globe. Manga is an amalgamation of the ukiyo–e genre of woodblock prints and paintings, that held sway in Japan from the 17th to the 19th century, as well as the Western style of comics and animation, especially that of (Walt) Disney, which was due to the significant presence that America had established in Japan post the Second World War. Christopher Nolan's "Inception" (2010) has many elements that match the little known "Paprika" (2006) by Satoshi Kon, and which is based on a novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The's First Modern Grocery Store Moreover, on that bright June day the hurry and spring in the pretty redhead's step had a teeny bit to do with what her best friend, Sylvia, had told her earlier that same morning: someone new had come to town; a handsome, mysterious young man. All the harbor girls whispered in delight; gossiping, speculating and wondering who would land the first date with this new guy. Rumors had it that he had started work at the newly opened First National, the harbor's first modern grocery store. Oh sure, there were fish markets and butcher shops and the likes, but mostly, folks had milk, cheese and butter delivered, and the majority of women made their own bread and put up their own vegetables and preserves. However, now with this new grocery store, their basics could all be purchased in one locale. The young man that the girls were all buzzing about had only been in Cutler Harbor for two days or so, no one had met him yet. It was Priscilla, who told Natalie; he lived in Damariscotta, some twenty miles away (he did). Then Natalie told Sylvia that she heard he had a car (he did not). In conclusion, Sylvia told Lelia he looked like a dreamboat, just like Clark Gable (he did). The person Lelia had worn her hand–sewn dress for, and couldn't wait to witness with her own eyes was Owen Isaac Bauer. Beyond a doubt, his handsome appearance unearthed the dreamboat the gossip had depicted him. His broad shoulders, combined with a thin build, had him appear much taller than his measured ... Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life; everything is in calm and peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings through the brick walls. All of the men in the station startle to attention and rush around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the smooth concrete floors and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm. The men pile into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes silent and the station is abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the background. The men hardly fit in the small quarters of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens atop the thick metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds start to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof. The cold weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow down and become faded, the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and a group of boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with an explosion of water up into a young boy's smiling face. Summary : ' The Prairie ' Cowboys ' David Graf Professor Chris Monier English 1010 24 September 2015 Pave the Prairie: Cowboys in Manhattan As we charge headlong into the twenty–first century, things have changed. Sweatshops are illegal, cars are a near necessity, and more women now graduate college than men. The post–industrial era economy is flourishing in the United States, but not everyone is flourishing in it. All across America coalmines are empty, railroad spikes and sledgehammers are rusting, and straw cowboy hats slowly rot. Jobs once held by 'manly' men are disappearing and, "for the first time in American history, the balance of the workforce tipped towards women, who now hold a majority of the nation's jobs," (Rosin 475). When faced with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These rules foster a certain type of man. One who takes charge and leads, one whose primary concern is, "Being a Man Among Men," (Kimmel 464). However, it also creates a person who suppresses his feelings in fear of being labeled as effeminate. The stigma dictates that attributes typically associated with women are unmasculine, so as boys turn to men, "Along the way they suppress all the feelings they associate with the maternal––compassion, nurturance, vulnerability, dependency," (Kimmel 469). This pattern of suppression has not changed much in recent years. Society still enforces the idea that men should be strong and stoic, when these traits are no longer what are needed to be successful in the workforce. Men are failing in school. While it may not be all men, as time progresses it has become apparent that women dominate our school system when given equal opportunities to participate. Men are not performing worse in school now compared to forty years ago, the problem is that they are not performing better. If men found themselves with, "'their eyes glazed over,'" (Rosin 473) they once could drop out, choose not to pursue a higher education, and enter the workforce through unionized labor jobs that suited them much better. Today, these jobs are disintegrating, while, "Of the 15 job categories projected to grow the most in the next decade in the U.S., all but two are occupied primarily by women," (Rosin 475). However, I find that there are other arguments that are capable of proving that Diotima is indeed a man, not a woman. To be able to explain my theory in an understandable manner, I must clearly illustrate gender roles in Ancient Greece. When it comes to women's roles in Ancient Greece, it is safe to conclude that they were simply a symbol of inferiority when compared to men. I'll list a few things women were not legally able to do: inherit property, appear in court, or give evidence under oath. As a matter of fact, women were not even able to commit the majority of the crimes in Ancient Greece because they were barely ever found in public. And if there happened to be an issue within the family, it was handled either by the father or the husband because they were the legal guardians of women. Boys went to school earlier than girls, because this society felt that men are the intellectuals. Domestically, women were to nurture their children. Now, let's compare this to the role of men in Ancient Greece. Men came home from work and lay on their couches as they were fed and entertained. They were given utmost respect in the house and in their society for they were deemed to be most important. This is all part of misogyny that is well grounded in Ancient Greece. With this background, I argue that Diotima is not a woman because the likeliness of the men to listen to her in this society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Texas Rangers Research Paper The Texas Rangers (52–53) will resume their three games series with the Houston Astros (60–47) on Tuesday evening in Arlington, hoping to build off their win last night . Jeff Banister will turn to previous staff ace Yovani Gallardo (7–9, 3.39 ERA) and the Houston Astros will counter with 26– year–old Dan Straily (0–0, 5.06 ERA). Fox Sports Southwest will broadcast the game live locally, and MLB.tv subscribers can watch worldwide on connected devices. Tonight the Rangers will be hoping for a strong performance from Gallardo and if he can turn one in then the Rangers will have a great shot at winning the series. Gallardo has struggled lately though, giving up five earned runs in each of his past three starts. On July 19th, just three short starts ago, Gallardo pitched an uninspiring four innings of ten hit ball, allowing seven earned runs against this Astros team. The Astros have been swinging the bats well as of late as the Rangers saw last night and they'll certainly be confident heading into tonight. In Straily you can expect a fastball in the lower 90's to the upper 80's and a slider and changeup to keep hitters off balance. Comparing The Novel ' Out, Out And ' Disabled ' Compare the ways in which the writers create sympathy in 'Out, Out –'and 'Disabled' In the poems, Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen both create sympathy for the characters through different ways. In 'Disabled', Owen paints a vivid, moving picture of a soldier who has been injured in World War One and lost his legs and an arm. Wilfred Owen himself took part in the war, consequently witnessing first hand many young men whose lives were similarly destroyed. In the poem, 'Out, Out', Robert Frost shows the fragility of life in two ways. Firstly alluding to Shakespeare's metaphor in 'Macbeth's soliloquy' – 'Out, out, brief candle', which informs the reader that life is very short and fragile. Moreover, Frost looks at the themes of sudden death and child labour to help to make this a very sad and shocking poem. The poem reflects the tragedy of the accidental death of a child doing a man's job. Frost's description of setting, imagery, and tone create a moving poem with a horrifying ending that leaves the reader feeling despaired at the bleakness of the situation and quite shocked. Even in the structure of the poem, Wilfred Owen shows us a compassionate portrait of loss by switching between and comparing the soldier's experiences 'before' and 'after' war time, and the related memories and emotions, for instance: "And girls glanced lovelier as the air grew dim– In old times, before he threw away his knees". This example shows the constant comparison and reminder of the soldier's loss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Rodriguez's case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a positive learning experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez's father wasn't putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their worlds where. He was stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with much greater potential to be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than most people realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not have many options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt that his father had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. At the time of this publication no study has isolated the effects of praise by itself with this type and setting. Praise has been noted to be varied and exhibit different results at times praise has had an adverse effect on learning while in other settings it has been a great catalyst. One study suggests that praise directed at an activity rather than a person can be a factor for the different outcomes observed. That praising on activity gives specific insight to overcoming problems and is beneficial for future situation that will require problem solving skills. The reason for this maybe that children don't always experience success and personal praise will have the opposite affect at this point. They will begin to equate non–success with being incompetent, bad and unworthy. Studies suggest that females maybe more at risk for the adverse effects of personal praise following setback or failures. "Bro, we've fallen down the rabbit hole or something. I know were not in Pixie Dust anymore . . . but where the heck are we Wonderland?" Mason said in full meltdown mode. "And . . ." he glanced around like he had a twitch, "I saw a flicker of movement in the water. Something's out there I can feel it, you hear me? I'll be fine though–you cut out their tongues and stab them in the eyes, if they close!" I did my best to calm him down. "Everything's okay. Mason there's no one here." I pointed to the glass like lilac–colored water. Not even a seagull soared over the sea. There were just bursts of dappled light peppering the air, reflections rippling across the deep. "Besides," I inhaled the brackish air trying to soothe my nerves, "what am I going to stab them with, my finger?" Relax! Only serene thought are allow, I told myself listening to the soothing sound of lapping waves gently caressed the coast. I repeated it like a mantra twice then I saw something across the purple swells–the silhouette of a small unfamiliar tin– ship approaching, twin smokestacks burping up puffs of ... The novel tells a story of the nameless protagonists as they traverse through a post–apocalyptic land in an attempt to reach the warm coast before winter. McCarthy's story also covers many dark and heavy topics – primarily death. He has said himself that death especially is a major issue in the world, and that writers who do not address it are not serious. As a man of his word, McCarthy has written "The Road" with imagery and metaphor alluding to how death stays as a heavy presence even after it has done its work. The book's dystopia is a result of all of the worst faults of humanity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy also tends to avoid any assignment of speech; one does not know who is speaking because McCarthy has explicitly written that The Boy or The Man has said it, if the reader cannot understand who is saying what then the writer has not done their job. He sees no need for complex and elaborate constructions of literature when words on their own can be simple yet profound in delivery in messages. I specifically chose to read this book because McCarthy is the opposite of myself. I thoroughly respect this ability in him. While I might find other authors like Poe who do the (stark) opposite to be more entertaining, I cannot deny that there is something so remarkable about an author who can manage something so beautiful and direct – naked writing. It demonstrates the depth of thought and careful consideration that went into each word. McCarthy's approach to storytelling, simple yet definitive, conveys far more than what is printed on paper. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the use of metaphor within descriptions of setting does the same. Many times throughout the story are trees mentioned. At first, the frequency may seem peculiar – it is always yellowing dead trees that are mentioned, and this initially serves to reveal to the reader that an unknown apocalypse has basically killed the earth and most of its flora. However, the constant presence of the dead trees is also a reminder that even though death has come and gone the skeletons it leaves behind will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 118. The Power Of The Grotesque The Power of the Grotesque in Literature It is often said that beauty is within the eye of its beholder. A statement this broad, begs the question, "what is the true definition of beauty?" Writers such as Sherwood Anderson and Thomas Mann depict the beauty of life through the usage of the grotesque. The grotesque is used to reveal the absolute truth and reality of humanity. However, no matter how terrifying these truths may be, it is evident that the messages depicted and the passion evoked through them are truly beautiful. Winesburg, Ohio is a collection of short stories by Sherwood Anderson. The episodic stories have a wide range of character types and messages and yet, they all share the common theme of the grotesque. Similarly, Death in Venice the novella by Thomas Mann follows a burdened artist, Gustave Aschenbach who struggles with repressed desires that are slowly liberated throughout the story. Both Anderson and Mann use the grotesque to explain the true nature of society, their characters, and to evoke emotion from their readers especially through the theme of obsession. In order to truly understand the grotesque and its usage, readers must first know its complex history, meaning, and usage. Due to its wide range of usage, the definition of grotesque changed numerous times throughout history. In literary uses, it can be defined as an "expression of the estranged or alienated world...an attempt to control and exorcise the demonic elements in the world" (Thomson). ... Some popular series include 'Astro Boy' and 'The Jetsons'. The characters of Astro Boy in 'Astro Boy' and Rosy the Robot in 'The Jetsons' have a lot in common, such as that they are both robots, as well as many differences. The evidence collected to support these facts include the characters appearance, personalities and their role in society. One of Astro Boy's and Rosy's biggest differences is their appearance; however, they also have similarities. Differences include that Astro Boy has the appearance of a human boy, although we are constantly reminded that underneath he is still a robot. Whereas Rosy looks entirely like a mechanical robot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were both created to serve their masters or creators. To serve is Rosy's only purpose. This clearly outlines her role, as well as showing that she was made to do the undesired jobs of humans. Astro Boy not only has the purpose of being a weapon and doing the unsafe jobs of humans, but also to act as a replacement for the scientist's son. At the end of the episode, he signs a contract with a ringmaster that he will work without being paid because he was ordered to do so. This also shows his robotic function, which is to serve and follow orders. The obvious similarity between both characters is that they are made to serve humans. They do the unsafe or undesired jobs of humans, as well as follow their orders. The evidence of the roles of the robots clearly shows their robotic nature, as well as clear similarities and ... • 126. Analysis Of Ode To Kirihito In Ode to Kirihito (1970–71), Osamu Tezuka makes it clear that he is not engaging in children 's literature. The manga opens tensely in a hospital with a huge staff of doctors mulling over a perplexing medical case and a barrage of obtuse medical terminology. Visually, aside from the dour doctors, there is a heavily rendered panel of tightly–packed tombstones in the overgrown cemetery of the afflicted village of Doggodale. This was an early salvo from Tezuka, that after two decades of massive commercial success with largely all–ages manga, that he was not content merely being the Walt Disney of Japan. Tezuka wanted to unlock the full power of a new art form. Therefore, in this essay I will argue that with Ode to Kirihito, Tezuka ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opening pages show a panorama of a beautiful Chinese port city (most likely an idealized Shanghai) with its tightly–packed houses and sailboats dotting the harbor. Then Tezuka brings us into to bustling, but still benign city streets, and a richly–appointed garden walling off the palace of Master Mahn. Only after does Tezuka begin to peel back the benign exterior to show the twisted underbelly. As the caged Osanai is brought inside by two drivers, Tezuka shows a half–page Roman orgy scene encircling a pair of nude performers. The rich, corrupt men, bored by their excesses, demand greater and more perverse pleasures and the ringleader has an infant brought out and placed in the company of a massive snake. Everything we know from Western films and even other manga suggests that the expected horror will not unfold, and that some heroic figure (perhaps the caged Osanai himself) will intervene and save the baby, but that does not happen. Mahn states "Don 't worry, we bought the baby fair and square in Pakistan. Watch closely" (p. 195). In the next page, we see that the snake has eaten the baby with a swollen belly, a woman is seen sobbing and the men are still bored because it is apparently too easy: "Boring! All you need is money to buy a snake and a baby" (p. 196). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

San Francisco Giants Case Study The San Francisco Giants have been one of the best teams in the majors for the past few years and at the start of the 2016 season, they were looking like a favorite to win the World Series. Up until the All–Star break, they were probably one of the top teams in the league and were probably in the #2 spot right behind the Chicago Cubs for the World Series. Unfortunately, ever since then, they have fallen behind and are now a few GB of the Los Angeles Dodgers. At the end of the first half of the season, the Giants were 6.5 games ahead of the Dodgers, as of today, they are 2 GB of the Dodgers. If the Giants can turn up the heat in the next few weeks, they might end up looking to hold onto a wildcard spot in the postseason. There were many things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the Giants can win most of their series, they will still be able to come out of their hiccup they are in right now and get back on top. The biggest problem facing the Giants are the two series against the Dodgers; one in LA and the other in San Francisco. One thing that might help the Giants come out of there is the trade acquisitions they got at the trade deadline. So far, the trades have been somewhat of a bust and somewhat of a victory. The Giants traded INF Matt Duffy, RHP Michael Santos, and INF Lucius Fox for LHP Matt Moore. Matt Moore is 1 – 3 for the Giants in 5 starts with a 3.41 ERA. The Giants expected to get someone that could go at least over .500, but the Giants still seem to believe in Moore because he might be a great asset going into the postseason. If Matt Moore and Jeff Samardzija can improve towards the end of the season, the Giants can really turn into that team that they were in the first half of the season. The other trade that happened was the acquisition of Eduardo Nunez for LHP prospect Adalberto Mejia. Nunez has been extremely good in San Francisco in his short time there and was a great acquisition for the Giants. The two trades seem to have had good intentions and somewhat worked and will probably become very beneficial, but as of right now, the two trades have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points out that "with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure to find new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In other words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging, as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars feel the urge to identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so–called "New Literatures in English" represented by the works of, say, Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Kamila Shamsie, Michael Ondaatje, or Joy Nozomi Kogawa" or recently through Anime with its heavy borrowing of motifs from western canonised literature and its gradual popularity as an emerging form of literary creativity. According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, anime is "a style of animation originating in Japan that is characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action–filled plots often with fantastic or futuristic themes." While Oxford Dictionary dictates anime as "A style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children", the Urban Dictionary explains anime as "a style of animation that originated and is still heavily centered in ... • 138. The Male And Female Gender Through Life Experiences Matthew Drozd How Do We Know What Gender We Are? Virginia Woolf's novel, Orlando, and Thomas Page McBee's memoir, Man Alive, aim to define the male and female gender through life experiences. Virginia Woolf uses the eponymous protagonist, Orlando, to define the freedom that men have within society while women face many societal restrictions. Within Man Alive, Thomas, a transgendered man, experiences similar freedoms and restrictions that Orlando experiences through his experiences within society. Man Alive is the journey of Thomas Page McBee's transition from woman to man; it focuses not on his physical change but on his mental change. Orlando was placed in a predicament that allowed him to experience life both as man and woman. The first thirty years of Orlando's life was spent as a man then he was permanently transformed into a woman. Almost parallel to Orlando's transition experience, Thomas was also in a predicament that allowed him to experience life as a man and woman. Thomas, born Page, goes through a transition to become male. Orlando and Thomas both aimed at trying to figure out who they were in society; Thomas was trying to find what kind of man he wanted to become and Orlando was trying to find what kind of woman she was becoming. For example, if female Orlando was promiscuous, she would be heavily criticized by her community while male Orlando received no censure. Anime is short for animation; however, when someone uses the term "anime" they are most likely referring to Japanese animation. Anime is a show made up of a series of drawn scenes shown in a fast sequence making a picture look like it is in motion. Japanese animation (anime) has a long, complicated, and somewhat interesting history. "The advent of anime dates back to 1963, thanks to the Astro Boy film" (Elias, 65). The main structure of a shonen is when the main character is faced with a set of challenges and always seems to be able to overcome them through different means, usually through training or repetitively trying to overcome them, and untimely becomes stronger because of it. The reason that mainstream anime has a trend of being shonen goes back to the primary viewers of mainstream anime being children. The repetitive and simple plot of shonen anime keeps the children viewers engaged while not having to follow a complicated plot that goes over their head. Mainstream anime almost always contain the genre action as well. The majority of mainstream anime today are a combination of the shonen and action genres. This led to multiple anime that are similar to each other. Some examples are One Piece, Naruto/Naruto Shippuden, and Dragon Ball Super (which is a continuation of the Dragon Ball Z series that aired in the 1990s). Their bullpen could not finish the year strong after being one of the best in baseball throughout the season. The bullpen, also, collapsed in game four of the ALCS against the eventual champions.
