INTRODUCTION
Field trips are highlight of the school year for most children. Field trips
are organized visits of teachers and students to immediate or distant places to
enrich the learning experience and to further the instructional purpose of
regular classroom activities.
J.C Aggarwal (2003) describes that educational field trips are also helpful for
the teachers to clarify, establish, co-relate and co-ordinate, accurate concepts,
interpretations and appreciations and enables him to make learning more
concreate , effective, interesting, meaningful and vivid’. Eric Powell describes
that field trips are vital for students to have a chance to view and explore
historical places and different social institutions.
Education is not confined to classroom teaching. Life in the classroom can
cover only a small part of occur total life. If learning is to result in the total
development of the learner. We must go beyond our school walls into the
community as to the students and as working participants. Field trips provide
opportunities for learning through the use of many technics. It stimulates
interest and increase appreciation. It develops better social awareness and
social skills in pupils. Field trip provide enough raw materials that would
4
promote developments of senses, knowledge, emotions and skills. Field trip
helps in developing various process skills among students. Process skills are
thus route by which children explore and gain evidence which they have in
developing ideas. Field trip make to teaching learning process more
interesting than classroom learning. The chief purpose of the field trip is to
give students, first hand information through direct experience, that cannot
be satisfied in the four wall of the classroom.
PURPOSE OF THE FIELD TRIP
 Field trips must be planned in accordance with a schools budget.
 Schools have several things on their to do list that keep field trips from
being the priority.
 Field trips are most common in elementary schools.
 In some cases, schools take trips without an academic focus.
 Fieldtrips give students tangile and sometimes hands-on experiences that
pertain to what they are learning in school.
 A resourceful teacher willing to compaign to get what she wants can get
5
al most any class out on at least one field trip in a year.
IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD TRIP
 The importance of field trips includes giving students the chance to build
closer bonds with their classmates, experience new environment and
enjoy a day away from the classroom.
 It helps to develop leadership qualities, promote co-operation, sense of
Discipline, increase confidence.
 Field trips give practical approach to curriculum, promote self experience
and increase knowledge.
 Children have to learn to interest with people- then classmates and others.
 It can help students understand the information better.
 They will have the opportunity to ask questions enhancing public skills,
which often unnerve students.
ORGANISATION OF THE FIELD TRIP
Pick a plan to go to that is age appropriate. Meuseum are always a good pick
6
for field trips, both scientific and artistic, state parks are another great pick for
nature learning as are Zoos. Other ideas can be local farms, factories and
historical sites.
Apply for funding and approval from our school according to our school’s
procedure for field trips. Once trip has been approved, contact the educational
co-ordinator at the chosen location and make the appropriate arrangements
7
many places offer packages for large groups and schools, so our may be able to
book a cheaper trip. Find out what the location requires as for as providing
food, and any age requirement.
Write up an information that along with a permission slip for children to
have parents sign. Include on the form anything children will noticed to bring,
such as lunch, closetoed shoes or school supplies.
Plan for transportation. Decide if we will need to rent a bus or take public
transportation. Divide the students in to groups ahead of time based in who
believe will be most well-behaved and get along best in that particular group.
Don’t make groups any larger than six or seven to each group. Keep the groups
fairly small and manageable. Make sure students are clear on the rules of saftly
and behavior before leaving for our trip. Give them a briefing on what they will
be doing for the day. Have rules set up for what is acceptable behavior at site,
lunchtime and anything that may be an issue pertaining to an destination.
ADVANTAGES OF THE FIELD TRIP
 The field trip will reinforce lessons to students learned from the pre-teaching.
 Field trips provide an extent goal for students to achieve by setting before
8
them a culminating activity.
 It helps to setting goals and achieving then will also boost the students self
confidence.
 It can strengthen a student’s skills by providing a hands-on learning
experience, while also providing a life by memory.
 It helps to develop the complete personality of the students like them
physical, mental, social, emotional development.
 It helps to develop the ability of obligation and leadership qualities in
students.
 This will help to establish discipline among students which is not only
beneficial for their educational level as well as practical life.
 Field trips to help create a bond between the students.
 Teacher and students get to interact in an informal way that does not
happen in the classroom.
 Field trips helps in developing various process skills among students.
DISADVANTAGES OF THE FIELD TRIP
 Field trip is that they take an incredible amount of planning.
9
 Parents may be nervous about the safety of their children.
 Trip usually take a day at least, weak at most the classes missed during
that trip represent a significant opportunity cost for other teachers as
well.
 The teachers and drivers are ultimately responsible for the saftely if every
Student at all times.
CONCLUSION
Field trip permits first hand study of many things that cannot be brought in
to the classroom because of size or in convenience. It awakness many interests
that classroom work cannot arouse. Field trips tend to be much more
meaningful and permit easier transfer of learning to the solution of real life
problems.
Field trip make the teaching-learning process more interesting than
classroom learning. The chief purpose of field trip is to give students, first hand
information through direct experience, that cannot be satisfied in the four wall
of the classroom. Field trip helps in developing various process skills among
students.
