Welcome To
Planning
Teaching is a complex process
involving the teacher, pupil, the
physical and social environment
and a set of tasks meant for
bringing about desirable
behaviour changes.The success
of such venture depends on the
systematic planning made by the
teacher
3. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
Planning Is Important to
Teaching-learning Process
Ensures progress.
Facilitate successful completion of
any activity.
Helps the teacher to be thorough
with the lesson and to make his
class interesting and effective.
Can present the learning material in
a logical, systematic and effective
way.
Can obtain adequate coverage of
content.
5. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
A comprehensive planning for the instruction of a
unit of study. Its position is in between the year plan
and a lesson plan. A unit is a unique segment of
subject matter in which the various items of
knowledge are meaningfully linked to each other as
components of a single compact entity. A unit in fact
is a compound of lessons not a mixture of lessons. A
well planned unit integrates a well knit set of related
learning materials as well as many types of learning
activities to be taken for their effective transaction .
What is unit
planning?

There should be provision for
evaluation and follow up
activities
05
It should provide strategies for
correlation with life and with
other subjects.
07
It should suggest specific
teaching aids to be used for
transacting the curriculum
area.
06
It should suggest project,field
trips etc appropriate for the
content and objectives. The
plan could be completed within
the time limit.

8. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
A learning unit is a coherent plan of instruction designed for the study of the
unit concerned. In constructing a learning unit, the teacher selects and
organizes ideas, materials and activities for the purpose of producing daily
lesson plans. Unit planning improves structuralization of the course content
and gives well planned direction to the teacher and to some extent the
learners for the teaching learning process, thereby making teaching more
meaningful and goal oriented. It encourages scientific planning and
presentation by the teacher as against the stereotyped text book methodology

STEPS IN PREPARATION OF LEARNING UNIT PLAN
Content analysis/ Content overview (the what of the unit): The course content is analyzed
into terms, facts, concepts, principles, processes laws etc. This helps in enhancing the subject
competency of the teacher and in increasing his self-confidence.
Objectives and specification (the why of the unit): By going through the analyzed content, the
teacher should identity general and specific objectives of the unit.
Learning activities (the how of the unit): The teacher decides suitable activities that may be
provided for students, for gaining objective-based learning experiences. Keeping in mind
individual differences, the psychology of learning, the nature of content as well as the pre-
determined objectives, suitable learning activities can be planned. Also includes the specific
teaching strategies and aids.
Evaluational procedure (the how much and how good of the unit): This involves the choice of
suitable evaluation tools and techniques through which the teacher can evaluate pupil
achievement in terms of realization of objectives.
10. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
Experienced teachers build their own resource units as they collect and categorize
materials through the years. A resource unit is a collection of suggested teaching
learning aids and activities organised for transacting the curriculum of a given
unit. As the term indicates it is a resource for teaching. It is prepared by a group
of teachers for the use of many. To an ordinary teacher, a resource unit acts as an
excellent source of reference with respect to concepts, objectives, learning
experiences, instructional aids, experiments, out door activities, tools of
evaluation, assignments and even references. Resource unit is much more
comprehensive than a teaching unit

LESSON PLANNING
A lesson plan is usually prepared by the teacher who conducts a lesson
for students to make sure a lesson meets its objectives and learning takes
place effectively. A unit consists of many lessons and takes a longer time
period.
A lesson plan elaborates, basically, on objectives of a particular lesson
and how teaching is planned in a way to achieve those objectives. A unit
plan, on the other hand, covers a wider area; a unit that can include many
lessons.
15. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
A lesson plan ensures that lesson objectives are met and learning takes place
effectively in the class. Furthermore, a lesson plan should eventually be connected
to the goals of the unit.
16. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
THREE TYPES OF LESSON PLAN
1. Detailed lesson plan
A detailed plan covers everything and gets teachers fully prepared for the
lesson ahead. It covers what to teach and all the activities students will
complete that lesson.
2. Semi detailed lesson plan
Semi-detailed plans are less intricate than detailed, but they still focus on
what you want to cover for that subject on that day. They act as a general
game plan for what will go on in the lesson.
17. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
3. Understanding by design (UbD)
Understanding by design is more of a framework. This "backward
design" looks at outcomes first to design curriculum units and is
focused on improving student achievement using it.

8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
1. Grade level and subject
One of the first sections of a lesson is the grade level and subject of
the lesson you're going to teach. Including this line in a lesson plan
can also be helpful if your administration wants to see what you're
teaching. It's also helpful if you share your lessons with other teachers.
19. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
2. Type of lesson
This is a brief section that explains the type of lesson you're going to
be teaching. A lesson might cover a day, week or entire unit. Many
teachers choose their lesson type depending on their preference, but
some may adhere to the rules of their school district or a plan for an
upcoming standardized test.
20. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
3. Duration
The duration of a lesson plan explains how long your lesson takes to
complete, usually in minutes. If it's a daily lesson plan, it may take the
entire length of a typical class period. A weekly lesson plan may take
all the time you see your students in one week. If you're teaching a
unit, it might be 20 50-minute sessions.
21. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
4. Topic
The topic of your lesson plan is the subject you're focusing on for the
duration of the lesson. The topic is typically a short section of the
lesson plan, as you simply list the subject of the lesson's focus. For
example, if you teach science and focus on an entire unit, the topic
might be "genetics." If you're teaching a unit on genetics but are
creating weekly lesson plans, the topic for one week might be
"behavioral genetics."

8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
5. Objective
The objective is a crucial part of the lesson plan because it states the
goal that students might accomplish at the end of the lesson.
Educators generally write objectives in student-friendly terms children
can understand. They write those objectives on the board and review
them with students at the beginning of the lesson.

6. Materials
This section lists any materials the students and teacher might use to
complete the lesson successfully. Typical materials include specific
pages from textbooks, printouts, writing utensils and paper. Listing
materials in your lesson plan allows you to better prepare for the
needs of your classroom.
24. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
8 ELEMENTS OF LESSON PLAN
7. Directions
This section typically takes the most time to complete because it
contains all the steps you plan to take during the lesson. Some
teachers divide this section into timed sections, while others use more
general terms. You can refer to your administration's policy for
confirmation on completing the directions in your lesson plans.

8. Assessment
The end of each lesson usually has an assessment that evaluates the
students' overall understanding of the topic. The assessment can
feature a few short questions or a more difficult evaluation, like a quiz.
Teachers usually align the assessment with the lesson's objective so
that students know what they're working toward throughout the
lesson.

5 Common Types of Lesson Plans
1. Daily Lesson Plan
Teachers prepare this type of lesson plan to cover the learning
objective for a specific day. In the last part of the lesson plan, the
assessment results show whether the students understood the lesson
or whether the teacher will need to spend extra time on the topic.

5 Common Types of Lesson Plans
2. Weekly Lesson Plan
Teachers prepare a weekly lesson plan when there is only one
particular learning objective: the primary goal for the entire week. First,
the teacher covers the topic in class within 2-3 days and then
encourages the students to practice on their own. By the end of the
week, the students go through an assessment to determine how well
they understood the concept.

3. A Whole Unit Lesson Plan
This lesson plan is ideal for teachers who prefer to teach their lessons
from a per-unit perspective. You can customize your pace of teaching
for each class depending on how well the students grasp each
concept before moving on to the next topic in the unit.
29. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
5 Common Types of Lesson Plans
4. Subject Specific Lesson Plan
If you are teaching multiple subjects in a single shift, you need to use
a different lesson plan for each subject. Differentiating your planning
can help achieve your targets and cover each of your lessons while
avoiding confusion and maintaining focus when handling different
topics.
30. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
5 Common Types of Lesson Plans
5. Grade-Specific Lesson Plan
If you’re teaching more than one class across different grade levels,
preparing this type of lesson plan can help you manage your class
and time more effectively. You have to consider that each grade level
needs diversity, as some types of assessments will not be applicable
across all grade levels.

IDEAS ON PREPARING AN EFFECTIVE
LESSON PLAN
1. Prepare Assessments that Cover Core Skills
Whenever you prepare a lesson plan, focus on what specific concepts
and skills you aim to assess from your students. Working backwards
from the end goal allows you to develop an assessment that covers
the objectives of the lessons with results that will directly evaluate
your students' understanding of that topic.
32. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
IDEAS ON PREPARING AN EFFECTIVE
LESSON PLAN
2. Encourage Students' Participation in Class
An effective lesson plan balances both verbal and written skills. As
their teacher, you should create a plan for encouraging active
students' participation by including your students’ interests during in-
class activities. Build rapport with your students and plan activities
designed to discover what those interests are.
33. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
IDEAS ON PREPARING AN EFFECTIVE
LESSON PLAN
Organizing students in pairs or small groups and design activities that allow
students to collaboratively apply the concepts they learned.
During these activities, choose example problems to solve based on the content
and let the student pairs or groups work them out together. This process of
working together will not only promote the skill of effective collaboration but
critical thinking as well.
If any group gets stuck, have a class discussion on that particular challenge and
get group feedback from other students.
3. Use a Teaching Style that Promotes Learners’ Critical Thinking
To make your classes more engaging, you should tap into your creativity through
ideas like:

EFFECTIVE PRACTICES FOR YOUR LESSON
PLAN IDEAS
1. Ensure You Have All of Your Materials
Before entering the class, make sure you have all the necessary
materials and student supplies you need. Prepare your teaching tools
and notes in advance so that you don't have to waste any precious
time (and lose any student engagement) searching and setting them
up in the middle of the lesson.
35. BSED-SCIENCES 2A

2. Set the Class Objectives before each Discussion
You should always be ready with a list of learning objectives for each
class and convey them to the audience before diving in-depth into
the content. This simple yet effective practice fuels student motivation
and dedication to achieve the target while making lesson
expectations clear.
36. BSED-SCIENCES 2A

3. Follow the SMART Strategy for Objectives
Every plan starts with a particular objective that it aims to achieve. So,
to make sure your plan performs reliably, ensure it is SMART (specific,
measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound targets).

4. Ensure You Tap into Your Student's Attention
Engage your students by involving common real-life examples or
experiences to establish connections and build curiosity among your
students. After all, one of the major goals for education is for students
to be able to transfer their skills and knowledge to contexts that are
outside of the classroom.

5. Demonstrate the Content in the Best Way Possible
One of the best ways to engage students is to create content that is
easy to follow and relatable. You can discuss each topic in-depth to
make sure the students can establish a personal connection with it.

6. Jot down Your Observations for Reflection
The teacher should always analyze where their class stands in terms
of the curriculum. Continuous evaluation of students will show you
what works and what doesn't while giving you the opportunity to
adjust in the future for better results.

7. Be Creative with Your Lesson Plan
Making the learning process more fun can be challenging but pays
huge dividends. Using illustrations, infographics, videos, and
animations can bring life to your lesson plan ideas and stimulate your
classes.

8. Allot Time for Recall in Your Lessons
Before starting with the next lesson, you must allot time for recall so
your students can review the previous lesson. This ensures that the
flow and transitions of your discussions are smooth and that your
students can understand how your lessons are interconnected. One
way for you to do this is by picking students to discuss what the lesson
objectives of the previous sessions are so that you can assess
whether your students have retained the information.
42. BSED-SCIENCES 2A
Your lesson plans should primarily require six key sections:
